The redeveloped IYCA in Port Vauban, Antibes has officially been inaugurated

International Yacht Club d'Antibes opens its doors in Port Vauban

The International Yacht Club d'Antibes (IYCA) was officially opened in Port Vauban last week following a €135 million development project that included the renovation of the yacht club and its superyacht dock, Quai Camille Rayon, which can accommodate yachts up to 150 metres in length.

Sitting in one of the Mediterranean's highest-profile superyacht marinas, the new yacht club boasts the design talents of award-winning architect Philippe Prost and a wealth of upgrades intended to elevate the IYCA as an international yachting destination. The official opening ceremony was attended by key figures from the yachting industry, IYCA president Jean Pierre Savarino and regional mayor of Antibes Jean Leonetti.

The International Yacht Club d’Antibes Officially Opens in Port Vauban

By Emily Dawkins

Last week welcomed the official inauguration of the International Yacht Club d’Antibes (IYCA) in Port Vauban, Antibes. Alongside the launch of the brand-new yacht club, which offers an array of exceptional facilities for both owners and crew, the evening also officially opened the brand-new Camille Rayon Quay which offers berthing for yachts up to 110 metres in length.

The International Yacht Club d’Antibes officially opened its doors last week, welcoming those from the local and international yachting industry to discover the array of brand-new developments that now lie at the heart of the Mediterranean’s most prestigious cruising grounds.

French architect Philippe Prost, President of Vauban 21and CCI NCA Jean-Pierre Savarino, and Mayor of Antibes Juan-les-Pins Jean Leonetti, opened the all-new IYCA, with support from sponsors Palumbo Superyachts Refit, wealth management firm, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL), Blade helicopters and yacht insurance company, Pantaenius.

‘Our goal is to be, and to become again, the capital of the yachting industry,’ commented Olivia Gordon Bourcart, Sales and Marketing Director of the IYCA, ‘I think the inauguration tonight is very important because it will really place the IYCA and the quay in the centre of demand. Our goal is to regain this appreciation of Port Vauban as the capital of the yachting industry, as well as to be a convivial place.’

Arguably the most attractive and conveniently located marina in the world for superyachts over 80m, the IYCA’s recent developments have certainly caused a buzz amongst the Côte d’Azur.

As part of a €135 million development project to renovate the popular yacht club and dedicated superyacht berthing quay, the iconic Port Vauban has been transformed into a modern and versatile haven for superyacht owners and crew alike.

Behind this spectacular transformation? Vauban 21. Comprised of partners from the Antibes Chamber of Commerce and professionals from the industry, Vauban 21 began the initiative in 2017 with the goal of bringing Port Vauban to a new level of prestige and renewing its title as a superyacht hub.

Undoubtedly, the recent launch and inauguration of the new yacht club and quay is a monumental step in defining Antibes as an unparalleled yachting hotspot.

Penned by esteemed French architect Philippe Prost, who took inspiration for the club’s design from the exterior of explorer yachts, the new IYCA brings together unrivalled luxury, impeccable services and facilities, and an opulent social scene. Members and customers will find lounge bars, panoramic open terraces and private meeting rooms alongside a dedicated crew centre with a lounge, gym and training studio. A notable highlight of the new yacht club is the private helipad which allows easy access to the Port from the nearby international airport of Nice.

Also premiered on the inauguration evening was the new Camille Rayon Quay. Now incomparable for berthing in the Mediterranean, the quay offers only 20 exclusive berths for superyachts over 80m, with its largest berth capable of handling a yacht of 150 metres. Alongside easily accessible services, the berths offer owners and guests premium security and privacy.

Leading yacht brokerage houses Burgess and Edmiston have partnered as joint central agents of these berths, offering exclusive lease opportunities for owners of yachts from 85 to 110 metres. Available in 10,15 and 20-year leases with payment every five years, owners now have the unique chance to secure a position in one of the most prestigious locations in yachting.

Alongside the new yacht club and Camille Rayon Quay, a significant amount of work to modernise the port have been completed underground including new water, electrical and pump supplies.

Despite the inauguration of the new yacht club and Camille Rayon Quay, there is surprisingly more to come for the historic Antibes marina, with further developments continuing over the coming year.

To find out more about berthing opportunities in Port Vauban, contact the teams at Burgess and Edmiston today.

Create Content For The Yachting Industry That Works

Create Content For The Yachting Industry That Works

Getting your product or service in front of the right people is only part of posting on social media. You can’t just expect prospective customers to find you and love your content.

🔷 FOUR DRIVERS TO GET YOU STARTED:

Subscribe to newsletters, forums, and social media groups in yachting, particularly if it’s focused on your target region.

👉 SOCIAL LISTENING

Ask your customers what they’re interested in and build your content around that.

Respond to comments and shares.

Follow major industry hashtags on social media e.g. yachting, superyachts.

Follow your own hashtag on social media (there are also free tools that help you monitor your presence and company mentions online).

Focus your sales and marketing efforts where your target customer is spending the most time. Viral posts mean nothing if a lead doesn’t convert to a paying customer.

👉 STORYTELLING

There are incredible people who have amazing backgrounds, however, because they aren’t necessarily big brands or well-known, their story is shelved.  Many people are fixated on achievement and success, and they avoid sharing the struggles behind their progress. Be human – it’s OK to talk about challenges and the lessons you’ve learned – often the journey not the destination is what shows authenticity and humanity in our daily roles.

I would 100% prefer interviewing someone who tells me about their challenges, than someone who churns out the same corporate, formulaic dribble we’ve seen regurgitated a hundred times before.

👉 CONSISTENCY & CREATIVITY WITH CONTENT

Useful, informative, and relevant content is an asset.

Build a community, not just followers.

In the yachting sector we’re so accustomed to hyper-editing to perfection, but the world won’t stop turning if you publish content that’s not 100% polished every single time.

The importance of social media for yachting companies

The importance of social media for yachting companies

Social media is like a shop window; you have to keep polishing it so your customers can look in and see clearly.

✅ Three beneficial aspects of social media:

▪ It works 24/7 while you sleep, drink coffee, or fine tune your next party trick.

▪ It enables you to cross geographic barriers to reach new customers outside of your immediate location.

🛑 Three downsides to social media:

▪ Having to create unique content regularly – often great ideas come while you’re in the shower, stuck in the airport queue, or stealing your kids’ Monopoly money.

▪ Cyberbullying, digital addiction, and anxiety dealing with social media trolls and online nastiness. They say you’re not success on social media until you have at least one regular troll.  Of course I blocked him!

I often encounter yachting companies who believe they have to be active on every social media platform, without understanding the impact of this.

Many businesses launch a new account on Threads, TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram, and then their content journey plateaus because they don’t have consistency with ideas or posting.

Antibes Yachting offers an online directory for yachting companies to grow their reach with customers

✅  Move from being a content consumer to a content creator. “You can spend 2 hours scrolling in the feed, or 2 hours creating content for your business“ When you create useful, informative, relevant content it is an ASSET and the bonus is you’re highly likely to get more referrals from others.   Create content that demonstrates your industry expertise, and THOUGHT LEADERSHIP to your ideal customers and industry peers. Post links to your newsletter, company blog, podcasts, video demos, interviews, portfolio, explainer guides, or answer FAQs about your products/services. On LinkedIn, I regularly publish ‘2-Minute Tips For Yachting Companies’ with marketing and communication advice which have been really successful. Give your ideal clients a reason to come back!

1) WHAT problems do you solve for customers 2) WHY your solution works 3) HOW it works 4) WHERE is the proof is (E.g. Client testimonials, portofolio examples, case studies).

Top Public Relations Voice on LinkedIn

pr agent for superyachts, yacht marketing, Antibes Yachting, Rebecca Whitlocke, public relations for yachts

However, I love LinkedIn and here’s why:

🌐 AUDIENCE: LinkedIn has a higher % of my target HNW, yachting and event clients and allows me to connect with the right people for work. For example, of the hundreds of Fortune 500 CEOs on social media, 97% of them are on LinkedIn. I’ve built my network up to include well-known names in fashion, film, music, sports, tech and television.

🫶 COMMUNITY: I’ve built up a solid community over 13,000 members on LinkedIn who support my content. Then there’s the lurkers – who don’t engage, but suddenly drop into your inbox with an offer or partnership. I’ve met lots of people in person too so friendships have formed. LinkedIn also gives me another platform to talk about and highlight underrepresented charities or causes.

👍 ENGAGEMENT: LinkedIn challenges the over-the-top idea of being popular. There’s less people here who have an end game of posting purely to go viral. People appreciate the effort you make to share helpful content. LinkedIn is THE platform that allows me to rock the boat occasionally, fuel opinion and get decent engagement by challenging the status quo.

🧠 KNOWLEDGE: As with any platform, LinkedIn has its fair share of experts and gurus! However, there’s a lot of clever people here who I’ve learned from regarding brand positioning, content tools and business development. When you build your knowledge you avoid a mindset that your abilities are fixed and determined by your background, intelligence, luck or talent.

🚀 OPPORTUNITIES: I have received amazing business opportunities and partnerships via LinkedIn. Opportunities that I couldn’t see happening via X or Instagram.

Best time to charter in Antibes

Summer is yacht charter season in Antibes. The warm temperatures and sun-soaked days offer prime conditions for cruising or beach-hopping. In Antibes, the summer season begins in late May and runs through September.

Peak charter season in Antibes is July and August. A favorite peak season event is the Jazz à Juan Festival, which is held each year in July outdoors overlooking the Med. During the summer season, there’s plenty to do: Antibes stylish beach clubs attract A-listers, the place to be and be seen; food and wine festivals each week, and plenty of cultural events throughout the season.

Antibes Yacht Charters – Things to Do & See

Antibes yacht charters

At the center of Antibes, the Vieille Ville, or “Old Town,” offers Antibes yacht charter guests a snapshot of antiquity. Stretching from the old fishing port to the Place du Safranier, the Old Town is dotted with quaint cobblestone streets, Medieval churches, the historic Château Grimaldi, an iconic ancient archway, and market stalls overflowing with fruits and vegetables brought in by the local harvest. Should you choose to end your day in this historic haven, do so by wandering along the embankment of Promenade Amiral de Grasse – it is home to the city’s raved-about horizon views.

Port Vauban

Considered Europe’s largest yacht harbor, one that even houses its own heliport, Port Vauban was designed with the world’s most extravagant yachters in mind. Just steps away from the Old Town, this natural harbor-turned-fortified-port, today, houses a lavish collection of visitors: like Russian oil businessman Roman Abramovich’s Ecstasea and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Octopus.

Beaches of Juan les Pins

From the eastern Port Gallice to Vallauris-Golf Juan, in the west, the coast of Juan-les-Pins is characterized by idyllic beaches, private restaurants, local fishermen selling their daily catch and the calm, translucent waters of the enchanting Mediterranean Sea. Like the tourists and inhabitants that frequent them, the plentiful beaches of Juan-les-Pins each have their own reputation – two of which are Plage du Pont Dulys, which is known for its water sports amenities, and Grand Plage, famous for its views of both the distant Iles de Lerins and the Esterel mountains.

Charter a private yacht in Antibes

Antibes is a hub for charter yachts on the French Riviera, and you’ll find a selection of superyachts for charter at the International Yacht Club of Antibes (known as a favorite marina of the world’s elite). A private yacht charter is the perfect way to experience Antibes. Cruise to the Cap d’Antibes and explore the peninsula’s tucked-away beaches. Enjoy the sunset over the Med with evening cocktails on the beach.

Situated between Nice and Cannes, Antibes offers the perfect launch for a private yacht charter. Enjoy Antibes’ historic walled Old Town one day, before jetting off to Cannes during festival season. Monaco – known for its high-roller casinos and opulent eateries – and charming, upscale Nice are also favorite cruising destinations on an Antibes private yacht charter.

Berth Description

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY also known as the “IYCA”, currently stretches 650 m out into the sea and is the main breakwater of the entire port Vauban of Antibes. It has 19 berths for yachts up to 90 m in length, including two larger berths for 150 m and 165 m Megayachts. The leaseholds giving the right to use the berths located on this famous quay sell for record figures and they are extremely limited and highly demanded.

The berth owners of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Antibes are among the wealthiest individuals on the planet, and their Megayachts, the most stunning. Though this quay was an ambitious project in its early days, this section of the port is nowadays also subject to overwhelming demand.

Knowing how much Megayachts generate for the economy, since 2011 the port Vauban and the town of Antibes have projected an expansion which would double the length of the jetty up to 1,250 m, creating an additional 450 m of quay for 25 Superyacht and Megayacht berths, with the possibility to even welcome cruise ships, as well as creating shelter for the area on the north-eastern flank of Fort Carré. The cost of this extension is estimated at 230,000,000 €.

The exploitation of the basin of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Port Vauban of Antibes is managed by the International Yacht Club of Antibes “IYCA”, which financed and realized this project of moorings for Megayachts.

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY is located opposite the Fort Vauban hill and the berth layouts features a configuration essentially for Megayachts and some Superyachts in addition right next to the International Yacht Club.

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY of Antibes was built in order to accommodate 19 large pleasure vessels; It has been laid out as follows: 7 Posts of 70m x 16m 4 Posts of 80m x 18m 6 Posts of 90m x 20m 1 Post of 150m x 28m 1 Post of 165m x 40m

Mooring of Megayachts: A new system of mooring boxes is installed; it removes all chains, mooring buoys and brings to the ships security and ease of docking.

Heliport: The helicopter landing area represents a 28m by 29m rectangle. It has a regulatory sign allowing, subject to the authorization of the IYCA, the landing day and night. In addition, the heliport has four parking spaces.

Antibes: The Yachting Hub's Top Spots for Crew

March 4th 2024

Antibes has established itself as a top destination for yacht crew members looking for work, with a vibrant scene of bars, restaurants, and hangouts in the heart of the yachting community. Its popularity as a yachting hub makes it the perfect place for crew to gather, network, and unwind.

Situated adjacent to Port Vauban, the old town of Antibes is the centre of activity, here are just a few of the hotspots.

Le Blue Lady

This place is like the unofficial welcome to Antibes for yachties. Tucked away in old Antibes, Le Blue Lady is where you kick off your shoes (figuratively, please), grab a game of pool, and maybe even stumble into a job interview over a pint. Their English pub grub is top-notch – think epic burgers, salads, and the kind of breakfast that cures all ;-).

The Hop Store

Just a stone's throw from Port Vauban, this Irish Pub is where the party's at. Known for its killer old town charm and a dance floor that begs for your best moves, The Hop Store is buzzing all summer long. If you're more about chill vibes, catch some daylight relaxation with a pint in hand outside.

The Drinkers Club

If your idea of a good time includes a great selection of beers and cocktails, make your way to The Drinkers Club. It's got outdoor seating perfect for those market street musings and catching up with your crew. Night or day, this place is always popping with yacht crew banter.

Le Cafe Brun

Nestled in Antibes Old Town, Le Cafe Brun strikes the perfect balance between local charm and yacht crew hangout. Whether you're sun-soaking with a chilled drink or warming up inside its cozy walls, this spot's got vibes for days. Plus, it's set in a former boulangerie, so you know the snacks are legit.

The Absinthe Bar

Get a taste of the green fairy in an underground cellar that feels like stepping back in time. The Absinthe Bar is all about traditional vibes, serving up a variety of absinthe in a spot decked out with Roman masonry and a hat collection that gets more entertaining with each round

FAIR WARNING: DRINK RESPONSIBLY! When you’re out on the town in a yachting hub, don’t forget that everyone knows everyone, have fun and let loose by all means, but please be sensible. The man/woman next to you at the bar could be interviewing you the very next day for a job.

CONNECTING THROUGH CREW HOUSES

These crew houses in Antibes are where it's at – a mix of comfort, community, and great locations. Whether you're fresh to the scene or a seasoned sea dog, these spots have got you covered:

Crew Grapevine

This is the go-to for anyone in yachting looking for a spot on land. Tucked into the heart of Old Antibes, right next to the mega-yacht playground of Port Vauban, Crew Grapevine has three awesome houses that are all about that super-yacht crew life. Think big boats, close mates, and all the insider info you need. Check them out here!

The Glamorgan

Rolling into its 14th year, The Glamorgan is all about giving yacht crew a plush spot to land. Located in the historic center of Antibes, the house boasts that classic South of France vibe with its Renaissance/Italian architecture. It's more than just a place to stay; it's where professional crew become family. Find out more!

Debbie's Crew House

Imagine a tranquil Provencal villa just a stone's throw from Antibes, with both cozy studios and shared spaces where you can mingle or chill by the pool. Run by Debbie and Franco, who are well-connected in the yachting world. Take a peek!

Bohobos Crewhouse

If you're after a spot that's as close to the action as you can get, Bohobos has your back. Just a short walk from Port Vauban and surrounded by the buzz of Antibes old town, it's perfect for both short stays and those looking to kickstart their yachting career. Plus, air-con rooms and balconies mean you can enjoy the Riviera sun in comfort. Have a look…

As with a lot of things, Facebook can be a wealth of information for aspiring yacht crew, make sure you’re part of the Antibes Yacht Crew Accommodation page to get the latest info on the crew houses, apartments to rent and more.

Every spot has its own vibe for connecting and swapping tales with fellow yacht crew. Antibes? It's a great hangout for yachties, packed with cool places to grab a bite, have a laugh, and settle in to your new seafarer life.

Antibes Yacht Charter, French Riviera

Antibes on Charter Yacht Quantum

As one of the most famous yacht charter harbors in the Mediterranean, if not the world, Antibes in the French Riviera has a large variety of yacht charter available. This is, as much as anywhere, where you are likely to pick up your luxury yacht charter. The yacht charters in Antibes include motor, sailing, skippered, crewed yachts, catamaran, power boat, sailboat, luxury yachts and off-course the ever increasing super yacht charter. The emphasis in Antibes is however, on larger luxury yacht charters, although the French Riviera is an excellent area for the smaller yacht to explore.

As with most of the Mediterranean, and all the French Riviera, the Antibes yacht charter season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season in July and August is the hottest and tends to have the lightest winds but also the largest crowds. This is also the high season as far as yacht charter goes. Other good times to charter your yacht is generally on either of the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), each side of the main summer season, as the temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers or have already concluded their holidays.

Where to sunbathe, swim and sip on a cocktail

If your idea of paradise is basking under the sun whilst sipping on a cocktail; or nibbling on seafood before refreshing yourself in an infinity pool or the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean, then this guide is for you.

We have handpicked our favourite beach clubs on the glamorous coastline of Antibes. All you need to do now is choose which day you want to relax with your toes in the sand and your hands on a chilled drink.

Hottest Antibes beach clubs for summer 2019

Plage Les Pirates

Located near the famous Pinède of Juan les Pins, which hosts the best live music events in the area every summer, Plage Les Pirates is our favourite beach club in and around Antibes.

Maybe it's because of its private beach with white, soft sand and crystalline waters. Perhaps it's that we just love its gourmet restaurant serving refined Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, including the freshest seafood and fish in Juan les Pins. Or it might just be the feeling of complete relaxation that you get when sunbathing on their stunning jetty, on one of their turquoise sunbeds that mirror the colour of the sea below.

Whatever it is, Plage Les Pirates is a must when visiting Juan les Pins.

Hottest Antibes beach clubs for summer 2019

Royal Beach

Located just opposite the Royal Antibes Hotel , this beach club boasts stunning views of the Cap d'Antibes from all the sunbeds dotted around its private beach and jetty. Opening onto the bay of L'Ilette, this is an ideal place for a dip in the sea thanks to its calm waters.

Their Italian menu features salads, carpaccio, fresh pasta, meat and fish while their lounge is great for a sundowner cocktail listening to Bossa Nova.

For those keen on a more active approach to a beach day, there is water skiing and banana boats on offer.

Hottest Antibes beach clubs for summer 2019

Les Pecheurs Beach

Les Pecheurs , based within the five-star Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel , is located on a private beach with views over the Lerins Islands and the Esterel mountains.

A great place to unwind, there is also a restaurant in this beach club serving a selection of light bites, including salads, meat and grilled fish. However, since you're here, you might as well treat yourselves and book a table at their Michelin-starred Les Pecheurs Restaurant .

Hottest Antibes beach clubs for summer 2019

Plage Keller

One of the most popular spots on the Cap d'Antibes peninsula, Plage Keller offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean sea and the snow-capped Alps from its fine sandy beach.

Here you can enjoy lunch with your toes on the sand or sip on a cocktail on one of their sunbeds.

Hottest Antibes beach clubs for summer 2019

Plage Belles Rives

Situated in the Belles Rives Hotel in Juan les Pins, this private beach has been popular with the jet set for decades. Its story is fascinating, the hotel is located in the villa where F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda lived in the 1920s, and where he wrote 'Tender Is The Night'.

The beach club has a sun deck, a sandy beach and a private jetty as well as cabanas and changing rooms.

Water skiing, which was born in this same bay, is also available as well as pedalos, swimming lessons and other watersports.

After the fire: St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club focused on revitalizing this coming summer

P ANAMA CITY — In November, the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club building on Bunkers Cove Road was destroyed in a fire. Ever since then, questions have circulated around the community: How did the fire start? Would the Yacht Club rebuild?

The Yacht Club was up and operational for business within weeks of the fire. The Yacht Club is still taking in new members, as well. Members have joined the club even after the fire.

”The Yacht Club is in better shape than people would have imagined,” said Michael Wynn, 2024 commodore. “The staff members that we have are family to us. We believe and give to them and they give back to us.”

Wynn explained that one club member had this to say after the fire: “The clubhouse was just a building; the Yacht Club is about the people.”

The Yacht Club has discussed expanding its sailing center to provide greater resources for the community. The club expects the plans and renderings for the new club facility will be unveiled this summer.

Some of the staff members have left the club since the incident and others have stayed.

“Our staff is smaller now since the fire,” said Wynn. “We have less services being offered at the moment, but many staffers who left the club for other jobs have offered to come back once the club becomes (fully) operational again.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown. There have been different ideas and theories on how the fire started, but there has not been a definitive answer. But there was no foul play, Wynn emphasized.

”Right now, we don’t have a final number on what it’s going to cost to rebuild,” said Wynn. “We have architects and plans on rebuilding. We have members of the community who are donating services to help cut the cost (of our rebuild).”

More information about the club will be released closer to the clubhouse reopening. Wynn said the rebuild will both honor the club's history and heritage and also add modern touches.

Wynn said the club's experience dealing with insurance after the fire has been good and the matter soon will be resolved. The experience was much better than the ones many people had after Hurricane Michael, he noted.

Wynn also is humbled and gratified by the outpouring of support and dedication from his fellow club leaders and all club members. He knew his one-year term as commodore, which began in January, would be full of challenges. But the club has rallied because the tradition and legacy mean so much.

"People care so deeply," he said.
