What a fantastic transportation company. We used them for transport to our rehearsal dinner, our wedding, and then again for a wine tour the day after. The drivers were on time, courteous, and the busses were clean. Travis worked with my for several changes both in the booking, and at the last minute. I met Asa the evening before our wedding when he came up to me and a group of friends at the bar to remind us that there were free sober rides home all we had to do was call. A company that goes out of its way to provide such a safe and conscientious service deserves my business and yours.

Wow! My friends and I were waiting for another Wedding bus service to pick us form a hotel and they didn't show, the driver of Road Yachts offered to take our whole crew to the wedding so we wouldn't miss it! It was so kind! Seemed like a great guy with excellent customer service. Will definitely be booking through Road Yachts next time we need a bus/limo service in the area! Thank you!

I highly recommend this company to anyone that is looking for great transportation and affordable pricing for a wedding. I signed a contract in October 2016 for transportation for my daughter's wedding in October 2017. The person I dealt with was very hard to get a hold of and after numerous phone calls and emails we finally signed a contract. In May 2017 I called the company to verify everything, and I was told that Amy no longer work there! I was assured by Kathy that everything still be honored. Over the next few months I worked with Kathy, Dawn and Asa, the owner. The final contract came out a few days prior to the wedding, and let me tell you everything was perfect. I can't thank you for the professional matter in which you handled everything.

The infamous "drunk bus" providing free (be sure to tip!) rides to various bars (like Spanky's in Leesburg) and your home. Truly a wonderful service. In all seriousness, they do have a wide selection of vehicles and some of the best drivers around. We've hired them several times and everyone has been very knowledgeable about the areas, friendly, and have honestly helped improve our experience, rather than just sitting there and driving us from one place to another. Rates are EXTREMELY competitive. If you're looking for a service to get a group (or groups) around the area, I'd recommend them!

Travis is so great to work with. I had a contract with them for my wedding and couldn't have asked for better customer service and pricing! Travis was responsive and accommodating when I had to majorly downsize my bus needs after figuring out that a lot of my guests were using other modes of transport. I highly recommend using them for any event!

Best experience EVER! Travis was the most chivalrous navigation buddy. We had such an amazing time. None of which would have been made possible w/o the help of Road Yahts!!!! They made my bridal shower unforgettable! Such fluid transition from one place to another. Not to mention, the patience granted to us (some gals take longer to change clothes than others ) was extremely well received! If you need to get around safely and plan on the most fun day EVER, I'd suggest giving these guys a call.

I was thrilled last year when I needed transportation for about 8 people to and from a concert. Asa at Road Yachts helped us out. Great Service, good price. What more could you ask for? Oh by the way, he also provides the free shuttle from many of the Leesburg bars. I didn't know that, but learned it that night. It's always nice when your son boards and says, "Asa! Hey Buddy" and then turns to you and says, "You hired the drunk bus!". By the way - they do have limos, but we booked quite last minute and the only thing he had to accomodate our group was a passenger van. We were going to a concert not a fancy event, so it was perfect.

I booked with this company for my wedding through the hotel I had a block on for my wedding guests. The manager at the time, Amy, was a TERRIBLE communicator. I called everyday for 3 weeks before I got any sort of answer, when I finally did get an answer my wedding was 2 weeks away. We booked a bus for 65 people and verbally a limo for my husband and I. The limo never showed and the bus driver charged us for leaving 15 minutes late. They also charged a clean up fee for a few streamers my bridesmaids put on the bus. Not to mention the driver was SO rude. Btw the 65 passenger bus was a SCHOOL BUS. I repeat, a school bus. That is definitely something the company should have told us. I do not recommend this company. This was the only vendor I was unpleased with.

Hi Kelsey, Amy is long gone and we have made many changes to the way we do business. I apologize for the experience you had with Amy and the driver. We do have several school bus style buses. We offer them to people who can not afford standard pricey transportation options. Everyone regardless of financial status deserves to have transportation to and from there wedding if they want it, and this is a way we accommodate that. We have many other non-school bus style buses in our fleet. Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate it. Thanks, Travis

We used Road Yachts for transportation to and from our wedding. The pricing for them is great if you're having an event in the Leesburg area since they are local and you can pay for two one-way trips to and from your event. Our main point of contact was easy to communicate with and also helped us reduce costs since we had a lower rider count than we initially thought. For the day of the event, the drivers showed up on time and our guests that used their buses were happy with the experience. The only criticism we have is that we needed buses to pick up from two different locations and Road Yachts was not clear in how they would handle this situation until all of the details of the pickup count from each location was finalized. This resulted in a back and forth of contract review up to the day of the event and one of the pickup locations being incorrect. Fortunately, this was not a massive issue as we just had the bus move to the correct location across the same parking lot. Despite this, we would still be fine with hiring Road Yachts again in the future.

One star based on the entire interaction I had with Road Yachts, not by the experience of their driving/day-of service as we never reached that point in our business relationship. We were recommended Road Yacts by our wedding coordinator and reached out to them in March via email and the request for info form on their website and...never heard from them. In June, we reached out again through the same means and after two weeks of getting no responses, called. The woman we spoke to informed us to email a specific woman within the business and ask for prices from her. We did just that and once more did not hear from them. After a week, my bridesmaid and myself both called Road Yachts at different times. My bridesmaid ended up speaking to a brutish man who informed her that he "had five weddings today alone and shouldn't be answering the phones." She explained that we were having trouble getting information and he told us to email them, she pointed out that's the problem as no one is answering emails, and he said to keep trying. I, on the other hand, finally got through to a woman who said they were working through the list of requests for October and would get to me shortly (my request was for November 5). She said I'd hear from them in a week. Skip forward a month and a half later in the last weeks of August, we had given up entirely with Road Yachts and went with a different bus company. So imagine our surprise when we received an email from Road Yachts with a price range for the request we sent in June. We informed our wedding coordinator that her suggestion was off the mark and she admitted that she herself had awful communication with Road Yachts in recent months after a management turn over and she was no longer recommending them.

Superyacht sinks latest: Investigators reveal where bodies were found as probe looks at 'crew's responsibility'

Italian officials revealed at a news conference there could be "a question of manslaughter" as they opened a shipwreck investigation and said the probe is also looking at the "crew's responsibility".

  • Live reporting by Niamh Lynch

We're ending our live coverage for this evening but here is a recap of what we know:

  • Prosecutors have opened a manslaughter investigation into the Bayesian sinking;
  • Officials have revealed more details on their investigation and the difficult five-day rescue mission;
  • The six bodies found during the search in recent days were all in cabins on the left-hand - and highest - side of the ship. Five were found in the first cabin and the sixth was found in the third;
  • Prosecutors said the six passengers were most likely asleep when the boat sank;
  • The probe is now focusing on the crew and their responsibilities, with the captain set to undergo more questioning.

Monday 19 August

The Bayesian yacht, flying a British flag, sinks at around 5am local time when the area was hit by a tornado.

Fifteen people are rescued from the 56 metre vessel - including a mother and baby - but another seven remain missing.

One body, later confirmed to be the yacht's chef Recaldo Thomas, is found near the wreck.

It emerges that British technology tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah are among six people that remain missing.

Tuesday 20 August

The search continues for the six tourists missing.

It is reported that among those missing are Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo; and his wife, Neda Morvillo.

Police divers try to reach the hull of the ship, resting at a depth of 50 metres.

Italy's fire brigade Vigili del Fuoco say early inspections of the wreck were "unsuccessful" because of limited access to the bridge and furniture obstructing passages.

The operation is later described as "complex", with divers limited to 12-minute underwater shifts.

Tributes pour in for Mr Thomas, with his friend Gareth Williams saying: "I can talk for everyone that knew him when I say he was a well-loved, kind human being with a calm spirit."

Wednesday 21 August

The search for the six people unaccounted for enters a third day, with crews carrying out inspections of the yacht's internal hull.

A team of four British inspectors from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) arrive in Porticello to look at the site of the sinking.

A helicopter is drafted in to help with the search effort and remotely controlled underwater vehicles are being used, with naval units and cave divers also taking part in the search.

Five bodies are found inside the yacht on Wednesday afternoon. Only four of them are brought to shore.

Body bags are seen being taken to Porticello in the afternoon where dozens of emergency services staff wait.

Searches finish for the day just before 7.30pm.

Thursday 22 August

The search resumes for the remaining missing person.

The body of the fifth missing person, found but not recovered the previous day, is brought to shore.

A fire service boat with flashing blue lights returns with a blue body bag to the port of Porticello just after 8.45am local time on Thursday.

Tributes pour in for Mr Lynch and Mr and Mrs Bloomer after they are identified as having died.

The search is called off at around 8pm in Sicily, with divers expected to begin again at 6.30am on Friday.

Friday 23  August

The search continues for the final person missing from the wreck of the Bayesian, Hannah Lynch.

Vincenzo Zagarola, of the Italian Coastguard, says the search for Hannah has not been "easy or quick", comparing the sunken yacht to an "18-storey building full of water".

The coastguard confirms in the late morning that her body has been found.

A green body bag is brought to the port of Porticello from the site of the sinking.

A spokesperson announces on behalf of the Lynch family that they are "devastated" and "in shock" after the deaths of Mike and Hannah.

Hannah's sister Esme pays tribute to her "little angel".

Saturday 24 August

A press conference is held in the court of an Italian town, Termini Imerese.

Public prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio tells reporters that his office has opened an initial investigation against unknown persons into manslaughter and negligent shipwreck.

As the focus now turns to the manslaughter investigation, here's another reminder of the seven victims of the sinking and the 15 people who survived.

A close friend of the Lynch family has added to the chorus of tributes for British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, who died in Monday's superyacht sinking.

Susannah Gurdun, who lives in Suffolk, recalled being "daunted" when she first met Mr Lynch at a dinner party, before discovering he was "so much more than the corporate cliche".

"He was riveting.  He was funny, and kind, and endlessly interesting; capable of talking about anything and everything," she said.

Ms Gardun said the businessman also had a "thrilling ability" to make complicated subjects "accessible to those of us less blessed with a science acumen".

"In particular, he was wonderful with children.  I will never forget hearing him explain to a group of them - including our ten year old son - the physics of why the sky went pink at sunset," she said.

She went on describe Mr Lynch as a "true genius" and "phenomenal creative".

Ms Gardun said his daughter Hannah was also showing "serious literary promise", and added that it was "beyond tragic that we will never know where her own particular brilliance might have led".

"I still feel blessed to have shared that time with them in Spain.  Not just because I witnessed Mike’s incredible storytelling; but because I was given a chance of understanding what that moment said about all four of them as a united vibrant loving family," she said.

"He was an extraordinary human being and it was - truly - a privilege to have known him."

A yacht crew member who survived the sinking has paid tribute to Hannah Lynch, calling her a "diamond in a sea of stars".

Sasha Murray, chief stewardess of the Bayesian, has released a statement after divers recovered the final missing body from the wreckage, which is believed to be 18-year-old Hannah.

"Those who knew her will know that Hannah was a diamond in a sea of stars," she said.

"Bright, beautiful and always shining. What most people may not have seen was the extraordinarily strong, deep and loving relationship she shared with her parents, whom she adored more than anything.

"While swimming with them she often said, if anything ever happened she would save them.

"I have no doubt that the Irish, Latina fire that burns in her soul kept that spirited determination alive."

Ms Murray's statement comes as a new image of Hannah Lynch and her father Mike Lynch is released:

Prosecutors announced in this morning's news conference that they have opened a manslaughter and negligent shipwreck investigation.

Officials were unable to answer several queries from the media, saying they needed time to establish the facts, but what are the key questions facing prosecutors?

Why weren't passengers who remained on board the vessel warned about escaping from the yacht?

The prosecutor in charge of the case, Raffaele Cammarano, suggested that some passengers may have been asleep when others were awake.

Asked why they were not woken up or alerted, he said that is something investigators are trying to work out from the statements of the survivors.

He called it an "essential" part of the inquiry.

Why were several of the passengers in one cabin?

The press conference heard several bodies onboard the sunken yacht were found in a single cabin which was not theirs.

Mr Cammarano said investigators currently do not know the reason for them being discovered in the same cabin.

The chief of the Palermo fire service, Bentivoglio Fiandra, said the yacht pinned to the right and suggested people tried to go on the other side, taking refuge in cabins in the higher part of the wreck.

Why did the boat sink?

The vessel had been deemed "unsinkable" by its manufacturer - Italian shipyard Perini Navi.

The Bayesian was hit by a downburst, according to Mr Cammarano, which are powerful winds that descend from a thunderstorm and spread out quickly once they hit the ground.

Officials will look into the safety equipment on the sunken vessel.

Mr Cammarano was asked about whether there is a black box and if the hatches were left open.

He said investigators do not have exact information about the black box and that the first phase of the inquiry will look into it.

Why were nearby vessels not similarly affected?

Another yacht, the Sir Robert BP, was about 150 to 200 metres from the Bayesian when extreme weather hit.

Its crew helped to rescue 15 people from the stricken vessel.

Italian officials said they would be looking at how the downburst could affect one vehicle and not other nearby vessels.

What weather warnings was the Bayesian alerted to?

Maritime director of western Sicily, Rear Admiral Raffaele Macauda, said the weather at the time of the yacht's sinking was abnormal and there was nothing to suggest such an extreme situation would arise.

He said there were forecasts of winds and a storm alert, but there was no warning of a tornado.

"Given that the conditions were such, there wasn't anything to suggest there could be an extreme situation arising," he said.

"There are vessels that can monitor, after all, these events and one would have thought that the captain had taken precautions."

How long will it take to recover the sailing vessel?

Mr Macauda could not confirm how long it would take to retrieve the shipwreck of the sunken yacht.

"Everything depends on the availability of the owners and the timeframe of the retrieval of the wreck and of course all that has to be submitted to the port authorities and in parallel of course there will be the inquiry results and it's only really then that we will be able to authorise the operation," he said.

"I can't say, like some experts who have already spoken on the subject, [said] that it will be eight weeks."

He made clear that the owners will bear the full cost of retrieval, although he could not estimate the figure.

Italian authorities detailed the challenging and meticulous rescue operation to recover the six missing people from the Bayesian wreck (see 9.18am post).

But why was the five-day search so difficult?

Read more below...

More on this morning's press conference.

One of the main updates from prosecutors was that they have opened manslaughter and shipwreck investigations after the deaths of seven people in the Bayesian sinking.

Watch the announcement below...

Prosecutors have given a lengthy news conference this morning on their investigation into the sinking of the Bayesian.

Read the full report on the prosecutors' probe below...

Marine investigator James Wilkes has been speaking to Sky News after this morning's press conference.

"Naturally, there are more questions than there are substantive answers at the moment - that's the nature of investigative work.

"Something forced that yacht to roll beyond its nominal stability limits, such that it wasn't able to right itself with the ingress of a certain amount of seawater that was coming into the yacht.

"So the investigators are going to ask themselves one initial question - what must the conditions have been for this to happen?

"Then they are going to look at the contributing factors to the yacht, sinking, and, and the unfortunate loss of life."

Prosecutors said this morning that the future of the investigation is reliant on recovering the wreck.

Mr Wilkes said the yacht is a "major piece of physical evidence in and of itself."

"It's lying at 50 metres, which is a recoverable depth.

"If it was significantly deeper, then I'm not sure they'd be considering salvage at this stage or certainly, the salvage question would be a lot more complicated to answer.

"But if there was the ability to raise that yacht in one piece safely, then it gives the investigators physically more to look at."

Mr Wilkes said he was unsure if the yacht would have a "black box" - called a voyage data recorder in shipping.

"It would record things like GPS position, heading speed, engine telemetry, whether the radars were on, what they were recording, alarms, communications from the yacht itself, any audio on the bridge.

"But more often than not, these are on merchant ships. The yacht was a commercial yacht in the sense that it could be chartered out so it's quite possible it has a voyage data recorder on, but I'm not sure that it does. I don't know that as a matter of fact," he said.

Who Was on the Sunken Yacht? Tech Mogul Mike Lynch, His Family and Friends.

Mr. Lynch, the former chief executive of the software firm Autonomy, who was acquitted on fraud charges in June, was with friends and family when the yacht went down in a severe storm.

  • Share full article

Mike Lynch, in a suit and carrying a leather briefcase, is walking toward a building.

By Michael J. de la Merced

Michael de la Merced reported on Mike Lynch’s career and legal battles over the course of 13 years across two continents.

A cruise on the Mediterranean Sea aboard a superyacht was supposed to be a celebratory event for the British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch , who was acquitted in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company, Autonomy, to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard.

Instead, it turned into a disaster after the yacht, a 180-foot boat called the Bayesian, sank off the coast of Sicily in a violent storm. Of the 22 people aboard, 15 were rescued and seven others died . Search operations ended on Friday after the final body was recovered from the site of the sunken yacht .

Here’s what we know about the passengers.

Mike Lynch and his family

Mr. Lynch, 59, is a British software entrepreneur who had once been described as his country’s Bill Gates. He founded the software firm Autonomy, which analyzed clients’ unorganized data, and turned it into one of the most prominent British technology companies of its time. He became a widely known corporate leader, who advised David Cameron, the British prime minister at the time, and joined the board of the BBC.

In 2011, Mr. Lynch sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion, which was far above its market value, earning him hundreds of millions. But HP investors almost immediately soured on the transaction, and the American tech giant quickly fired its chief executive — and then Mr. Lynch.

HP later accused Mr. Lynch of misleading it about the state of Autonomy’s business, setting off a decade-long legal ordeal for the British executive, who denied the accusations. U.S. prosecutors charged him and other executives with fraud, and Autonomy’s chief financial officer was convicted in 2018.

Despite appeals to the British government, Mr. Lynch was extradited to the United States last year and was confined to a townhouse in San Francisco ahead of his criminal trial, which began in March. Facing the possibility of decades in prison if convicted, Mr. Lynch and another colleague were instead acquitted of all charges.

An official in Palermo, Sicily’s capital, said on Thursday that Mr. Lynch’s body had been recovered. His wife, Angela Bacares, 57, accompanied him on the yacht, and she was rescued on Monday when it sank. She was a consistent presence at his trial in the United States. Records show that she controlled Revtom, the company listed as the owner of the Bayesian.

The body of Hannah Lynch , Mr. Lynch and Ms. Bacares’s 18-year-old daughter, was thought to be recovered on Friday.

The other guests

Jonathan Bloomer, 70, chair of Morgan Stanley’s international arm and the chairman of Hiscox, an insurance provider that trades on the London Stock Exchange, was on the yacht when it sank, along with his wife, Judy Bloomer, 71. Their bodies are thought to be among those recovered, but Italian authorities have not identified them.

Christopher J. Morvillo, 59, a New York-based partner at the international law firm Clifford Chance, was also on the yacht. A former federal prosecutor who comes from a family of prominent lawyers, Mr. Morvillo represented Mr. Lynch during his criminal trial in San Francisco. His wife, Neda, 57, was with him on the yacht. Their bodies are also assumed to be among those recovered.

“We are in shock and deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” a representative of Clifford Chance said in a statement.

Surviving passengers rescued from the yacht include Charlotte Golunski, a partner at Mr. Lynch’s venture firm, Invoke Capital; Ms. Golunski’s husband, James Emslie; and their one-year-old daughter Sophie. Also rescued were Ayla Ronald, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, and her partner, Matthew Fletcher.

The yacht had a crew of 10, and nine were rescued. The body of the chef, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered from the water, the Sicilian Civil Protection Department said.

Italy opens manslaughter investigation into Sicily yacht sinking

Italian prosecutors say no suspect has been identified in the investigation into the deaths of seven people after Monday’s sinking of the Bayesian.

Italian prosecutors said Saturday that they have opened an investigation into culpable shipwreck and manslaughter over the deaths of seven people in a yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily this week.

The British-flagged Bayesian sank in a storm off the northern coast of Sicily, after encountering what authorities called a “violent storm” early Monday, and sank to a depth of more than 160 feet. British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter Hannah were among those who died.

Ambrogio Cartosio, the head of the public prosecutor’s office of Termini Imerese, told a news conference Saturday that an investigation had begun but that no suspect has been identified so far.

“We are only in the initial phase of the investigation. We can’t exclude any sort of development at present,” he said, adding that “it is probable that offenses were committed, that it could be a case of manslaughter,” according to a translation by the Associated Press .

Cartosio said the captain, crew and passengers are under no legal obligation to remain in Italy, but authorities expect them to cooperate with the probe, Reuters news agency reported .

Fifteen people, including Lynch’s wife and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares, were rescued shortly after the 183-foot vessel sank.

The body of the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, was recovered during initial search efforts.

Four bodies were pulled from the wreckage Wednesday. They were identified as those of two couples: Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International; Judy Bloomer, a charity trustee; Chris Morvillo, a partner at the law firm Clifford Chance in New York; and Neda Morvillo, a jeweler.

Mike Lynch’s body was recovered Thursday, while the final body, that of his daughter Hannah, was recovered from the hull Friday.

The Bayesian is owned by a company controlled by Bacares, and several of the passengers had business or legal ties to Lynch. Chris Morvillo represented Lynch in a recently concluded legal battle. The voyage was intended to be a celebration of Lynch’s acquittal in the United States of fraud charges, Britain’s Telegraph newspaper reported .

Lynch, 59, co-founded Autonomy, once Britain’s largest software company, and the cybersecurity firm Darktrace, among other ventures.

He sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for more than $11 billion but was subsequently accused of overvaluing the company and charged by the United States with fraud. He was acquitted on all counts by a federal court in San Francisco in June.

Who was onboard tech mogul Mike Lynch's Bayesian yacht?

Topic: Disasters, Accidents and Emergency Incidents

Six people are missing, including a man dubbed the British Bill Gates, after a luxury yacht sank off the Sicilian coast.

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch — freshly acquitted from a decade-long trial — had invited his work colleagues aboard a trip through the Mediterranean coast when a freak storm saw the yacht sink within moments.

Fifteen people escaped from the sinking vessel. The search for the missing continues.

Here's what we know so far:

What happened?

The Italian coastguard said the yacht — the Bayesian — was anchored off the shore of port city Porticello, near the Sicilian capital Palermo, when it was hit by bad weather sometime after 4am on Monday, local time.

Eyewitnesses said it vanished quickly beneath the waves shortly before dawn.

Managers of the sailing vessel Bayesian, Camper & Nicholsons, confirmed to the ABC that the Bayesian encountered severe weather and subsequently sank.

"Our priority is assisting with the ongoing search and providing all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew," they said.

"The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude," a coastguard official told Reuters.

Sicily's civil protection agency head, Salvo Cocina, said a waterspout — a tornado over the water — could have struck the yacht.

"They were in the wrong place at the wrong time," Mr Cocina added.

Storms and heavy rainfall had swept down Italy in recent days after weeks of scorching heat, lifting the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea to record levels and raising the risk of extreme weather conditions, experts told Reuters.

"The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius, which is almost 3 degrees more than normal. This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms," meteorologist Luca Mercalli said.

Captain Karsten Borner of the Sir Robert Baden Powell vessel told journalists he noticed the Bayesian nearby during the storm, but after it calmed he saw a red flare and realised the ship had simply disappeared.

Mr Borner said he and a crew member boarded their tender and found a lifeboat with 15 people, some of them injured, who they then took aboard and alerted the coast guard.

Search crews, including helicopters and divers, are continuing to search the wreckage, lying at a depth of 49 metres.

Specialist divers reached the ship on Monday but access was limited due to objects in the way, the fire brigade said.

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development office said it was "providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families".

Sicilian prosecutors have also opened an investigation into the event.

Who is missing?

A collage of three men

Lawyer Chris Morvillo (left), entrepreneur Mike Lynch, and Morgan Stanley chairman Jonathan Bloomer are among the missing.

There were 12 passengers and 10 crew members aboard the yacht.

Mr Cocina said the crew and passengers hailed from a variety of countries, including Britain, the United States, Antigua, France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain.

Of the 22, one man is confirmed dead and another six people are still missing.

They are believed to be inside the hull, fire rescue spokesperson Luca Cari said.

Fabio Cefalù, a fisherman who said he responded to a flare from the vessel but found it sunk, said he stayed at the site for three hours without finding anyone.

"I think they are inside, all the missing people," he said.

Rescue teams recovered the body of the yacht's onboard chef on Monday, identified as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas.

The still missing people include:

  • Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah
  • Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of global financial services company Morgan Stanley International
  • Chris Morvillo , a lawyer at the British multinational law firm Clifford Chance. He worked on Mr Lynch's lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard
  • The identities of the remaining two missing are still unconfirmed

Who was rescued?

Fifteen people escaped from the sinking ship.

Eight have been hospitalised and others were taken to a nearby hotel.

Among those rescued were:

  • Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, who was the owner of the yacht
  • Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter, Sofia. Ms Golunski is a partner at Mr Lynch's firm, Invoke Capital. She says she momentarily lost hold of Sofia in the water but managed to hold her up above the waves until the lifeboat was inflated
  • Ms Golunski's husband James Emslie
  • New Zealand captain of the yacht James Catfield. He told Italian newspaper La Repubblica the crew didn't see the storm coming
  • A lone Dutch citizen was identified by the Dutch foreign ministry as being rescued, but was not identified

Who is Mike Lynch?

Mr Lynch, once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was recently freed from a Silicon Valley lawsuit that tarnished his legacy.

The 59-year-old Cambridge-educated mathematician created Autonomy , a search engine that could pore through emails and other internal business documents to help companies find vital information more quickly.

He received the OBE for his innovation in 2006.

He then sold the software to Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $US11 billion ($16 billion) in 2011, with Mr Lynch personally netting $US800 million.

HP valued Autonomy at $US46 billion ($68 billion) in the months leading up to the deal.

But the deal quickly turned sour after he was accused of forging the software's financial records to make the sale.

As part of a decades-long legal battle against HP, Mr Lynch was extradited to the UK on criminal fraud charges.

He steadfastly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he was being made a scapegoat for HP's own bungling.

He was eventually cleared of all charges in June this year.

Although he avoided a possible prison sentence, Lynch still faced a bill from a civil case in London that HP mostly won during 2022. Damages haven't been determined in that case, but HP is seeking $US4 billion.

Following the San Francisco trial, Mr Lynch said he would return to the UK and do what he loved most: "[being with] my family and innovating in my field."

The holiday appeared to be something of a celebration after Mr Lynch's acquittal, with guests including some of the people who had stood by Lynch throughout the ordeal.

In a separate act of tragedy, Mr Lynch's co-defendant in the trial, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Monday, after a road accident left him critically injured.

Mr Chamberlain — Autonomy's former vice-president of finance alongside Mr Lynch — was hit by a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning and had been placed on life support.

What is the Bayesian?

The luxury yacht is 56m long sailboat, with a 75m mast labelled as the tallest aluminium mast in the world.

It was previously named Salute when it flew under a Dutch flag.

The yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. It was last refitted in 2020.

Online charter sites listed it for rent for up to 195,000 euros (about $AU 321,000) a week.

Two boats in the sea

The ship also won a string of awards for its design.

Ms Golunski said the yacht had travelled through the Aeolian Islands, Milazzo and Cefalù before sinking.

It is likely the yacht's name would resonate with Mr Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.

The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Lawyer's chilling text to father revealed after surviving Bayesian superyacht sinking

Lawyer's chilling text to father revealed after surviving...

The passengers still missing after lavish yacht bayesian sank off italy.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, his high-flying Big Apple lawyer and a Morgan Stanley banking boss are among the six people still missing after the luxury superyacht they were vacationing on sank off Sicily’s coast.

Lynch, 59, and his friends were believed to have been celebrating on board the 160-foot Bayesian sailboat after the entrepreneur was acquitted just weeks ago of criminal fraud charges in a high-profile case in the US.

Among those on board the yacht — which sank after being struck by an intense storm early Monday — is his defense lawyer, Christopher Morvillo, and Jonathan Bloomer, a finance exec who served as a character witness during the trial.

As authorities scramble to locate the missing, here is what we know about the people who are believed to be in the wreckage of the yacht and feared dead.

Mike Lynch and his teen daughter, Hannah, are among the six people missing after their yacht sank off Sicily on Monday.

The tech tycoon , often dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates,” is the man behind the UK’s biggest software company — Autonomy.

Lynch, 59, was lauded by shareholders, scientists and lawmakers when he sold Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion back in 2011.

The sale of his software company cemented the tech tycoon’s reputation as a tech industry titan — but the deal quickly soured when Hewlett-Packard wrote down Autonomy’s value by $8.8 billion after alleging it had discovered a massive accounting scandal at the business.

Lynch spent the next 12 years fighting to clear his name, and was acquitted of US fraud charges just two months ago by a San Francisco jury.

The entrepreneur later said he was “elated” to be cleared after long-denying any wrongdoing and blaming Hewlett-Packard for botching the integration of the two companies.

Meanwhile, after selling Autonomy, Lynch founded the tech venture capital fund, Invoke Capital.

Hannah Lynch

The tycoon’s 18-year-old daughter is also among the missing.

Hannah only just completed her high school exams — known as A-levels in the UK —  in the summer, according to a Sunday Times profile on her father published last month.

The teen graduated from the Latymer Upper School in swanky west London and was preparing to study English at the University of Oxford.

Her friends have described her as a staunch feminist and a “voracious reader and intellectual” who had always dreamed of becoming a writer.

Christopher Morvillo

Christopher Morvillo headshot

Big Apple lawyer Christopher Morvillo is a partner at the white-collar law firm, Clifford Chance.

Morvillo, 59, was a key part of Lynch’s defense team as the tech tycoon fought federal charges.

He took to LinkedIn to celebrate Lynch’s court victory just two months ago as he thanked his family for their support.

“A huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo,” he wrote in the eerie post.

“None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after….”

Before joining Clifford Chance in November 2011, Morvillo was a former assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York who worked on the criminal investigation into the Sept. 11 terror attacks

Before joining Clifford Chance in November 2011, Morvillo was a principal at Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello PC where he provided advice on white collar criminal defense and other regulatory matters.

Morvillo studied law at Fordham University.

Neda Morvillo

Neda Morvillo poses with small dog

Morvillo’s wife, Neda, is the owner of a luxury fine jewelry line that she runs under her maiden name: Neda Nassiri.

She has been designing and hand-crafting jewelry in the Big Apple for more than 20 years, according to her brand’s website.

Jonathan Bloomer and wife Judy Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer headshot

British banking boss, Jonathan Bloomer, has been a non-executive chairman at Morgan Stanley International since 2016.

The 70-year-old is also the chair of insurance company Hiscox and served as chief executive of insurance and investment company Prudential between 2000 to 2005.

What to know after a tornado sank the yacht Bayesian off the coast of Sicily:

  • A superyacht capsized off the coast of Sicily after a tornado hit the area early Monday, killing seven passengers.
  • British tech tycoon Mike Lynch was identified as one of the bodies pulled from the wreckage. His teenage daughter, Hannah, was the final one to be recovered.
  • Lynch — known as “Britain’s Bill Gates” — had invited guests from Clifford Chance, a legal firm that represented him, and Invoke Capital, his own company, on the voyage,  according to the Telegraph .
  • Security camera footage shot from 650 feet from where the  Bayesian sank Monday  shows it disappearing.
  • A rare and unexpected “black swan” weather event may have led to the  Bayesian’s speedy demise , maritime experts say.

graphic of tragic yacht

At one point, Bloomer was also head of the audit committee at Autonomy and appeared as a character witness at Lynch’s US trial earlier this year.

The banking bigwig, who studied physics at London’s Imperial College in the 1970s, was described as an ex-employee on Linkedin as “always a friendly, approachable and engaging man.”

Meanwhile, Bloomer’s wife Judy studied English language and literature at Homerton College in Cambridge.

She has worked as a psychotherapist for nearly three decades and specialized in anxiety and stress.

Judy started her career as a teacher.

The others on board: 1 dead, 15 survivors

The only body so far retrieved in the wake of the tragedy is that of the onboard chef, Recaldo Thomas, an Antiguan citizen.

All other crew members — nine in total — had been accounted for, local authorities said.

Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among those rescued when the luxury yacht went down, authorities confirmed.

The 57-year-old sustained injuries to her feet after walking on broken glass to flee the sinking vessel,  Italy’s  La Repubblica reported.

Among the other survivors was British mother Charlotte Golunski, her partner, James Emslie, and their 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Golunski, who is a partner at Lynch’s Invoke Capital firm and previously worked for Autonomy, recounted Monday how she momentarily lost hold of her toddler in the water as the yacht started sinking — but managed to hold her over the waves until a lifeboat inflated.

Another lawyer, Ayla Ronald, and her partner were also rescued.

Ronald, a New Zealand native, works at Clifford Chance and was among those who represented Lynch at trial, the law firm said.

Eddie Howe speaks out after Joelinton somehow avoids red card against Bournemouth

Joelinton performed a clothesline move on Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto

Eddie Howe admitted he will speak with midfielder Joelinton after the Newcastle star escaped a red card during Sunday’s draw against Bournemouth .

The Magpies maintained their unbeaten start to the new season after Anthony Gordon scored a late equaliser, cancelling out Marcus Tavernier’s first half opener.

A draw was just about the result Newcastle merited following a spirited second half performanace but they were fortunate on two occasions in the closing stages.

Dango Ouattara thought he had won the game for the home side in injury-time, only to see his header ruled out for handball, while Joelinton somehow escaped with only a yellow card minutes later when he prevented Neto from taking a quick throw out with a move that wouldn’t have looked out of place in WWE .

‘It was probably as bit reckless from Joelinto,’ conceded Howe. ‘You could see wghat he is trying to do – he’s trying to stop the keeper – but you can’t go near the head area. That’s something we will talk to him about.’

Bournemouth’s hearts have been broken by VAR ❌ pic.twitter.com/BcI2RuXMeG — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) August 25, 2024

On Ouattara’s disallowed goal, meanwhile, Howe added: ‘I thought the game was lost because I initially hadn’t seen anything wrong with the goal.

‘We have had it both ways. We have had it for us and against us and we are very grateful for that moment because we have battled hard.

‘What we had at that stage of the game was a valuable point. But I understand that it is a contentious decision.

‘I think a draw was fair but Bournemouth may have a different perspective. They did cause us problems with their quick attacks and while I think we had more chances to score more than one, I think they would probably argue the same. With that, I think a draw was fair.

‘In that second half we were a threat from set played and crosses and we are frustrated that we haven’t scored more than one.’
