Billionaire Clive Palmer has bought a $40million superyacht patriotically named 'Australia'.

The Queensland based mining tycoon has moored the 56m vessel in the Brisbane River with the international crew currently undergoing two weeks quarantine.

The yacht is an upgrade from his previous 35m Sunseeker $8million runabout, the Nancy Jean.

Italian company Benetti created his new yacht in 2012, which has been previously named Bash and Ulysses.

Mr Palmer made the purchase in December after the 12 guest and 12 crew capacity vessel had been on the market since 2019.

The yacht includes two sundecks, an outdoor and indoor bar, a jacuzzi, a VIP suite with bridge deck views, and an owner's suite complete with an office, walk-in wardrobe, and private bathroom.

Mr Palmer - also the chairman of his United Australia Party - enjoys entertaining on his yachts along the Brisbane River, Gold Coast and Hamilton Island.

He's been splurging recently buying several luxury canal-front home on the Gold Coast and a $20million Sovereign Island mega-mansion.

As well as his mining businesses he owns a number of luxury golfing resorts along the Queensland Coast.

He is worth about $13billion, according the the Australian Financial Review.

His plans for the next federal election have also taken another step as he called for candidates to stand for his United Australia Party.

Mr Palmer says he has a significant war chest for his next tilt at Canberra, and claims his campaign will outspend the two major parties.

'I am encouraging our members to take the next step in creating a new era in Australian history by nominating to become an endorsed United Australia Party candidate for the 2022 Federal Election,' he said in a statement on Friday.

The UAP is calling for nominations for representatives in all states and territories to run for positions in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

'With a strong field of candidates and our tens of thousands of members behind us, we will do our very best to win the next Federal Election,' Mr Palmer said.

A $40 million superyacht owned by Australian billionaire and mining magnate Clive Palmer has become stuck off the coast of Singapore.

The yacht is believed to have run aground in shallow waters one kilometre off the exclusive Sentosa Island on Monday afternoon.

Palmer purchased the 56-metre Benetti – which he named “Australia” – in 2021 and features a jacuzzi and VIP suite.

The yacht departed the Singapore port at 4.25pm (local time) on Saturday and had logged a six-day journey to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, according to Marine Traffic data.

A local told the Sydney Morning Herald they thought mechanical failure was the likely cause of the problem.

“It’s very difficult to make this kind of mistake, so maybe they had some problem with the motor,” they said.

“This is just at the exit of the marina, and it is absolutely very clear that you can’t put the boat between those two buoys. You can’t do that. Even if you are a jet skier like me, you know that.”

It is not known who was on board at the time of the incident.

Palmer’s yacht problems

It is not the first time one of Palmer’s yachts have run into problems on the water.

His $5.3 million superyacht “Maximus” lost power and narrowly avoided smashing into a rock wall in 2013.

Mr Palmer was reportedly entertaining business associates at the time of the incident, with everyone on board forced to put on life jackets as the yacht was towed to a nearby marina.

The eye-watering salary of the man tasked with reforming the embattled CFMEU can now be revealed, and it’s not costing taxpayers a cent.

Clive Palmer’s $40 Million Superyacht Crashes In Singapore, Billionaire’s Whereabouts Unknown

Clive Palmer’s extravagant $40 million superyacht , ‘Australia’, has found itself stranded off the shores of Sentosa Island, Singapore.

Clive Palmer has always been one of Australia’s most divisive billionaires, thanks in no small part to his decision to buy Adolf Hitler’s old Mercedes and his tone-deaf decision to hike rental prices on his Queensland properties in the middle of the cost of living crisis.

Now, however, he’s found himself in a rather sticky situation: Palmer’s extravagant $40 million superyacht, Australia , found itself stranded off the shores of Sentosa Island, Singapore. Locals and onlookers were left in awe as the Australia ran aground during its departure from Sentosa Island’s marina.

WATCH: It’s a nice boat for sure, but it’s got nothing on Jeff Bezos’ $723m monster, Koru…

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald and 9News , even in a region known for its ultra-wealthy elite, this mishap quickly became the centre of attention. The 56-meter luxury vessel, renowned for its opulent features including a jacuzzi, bars, and a VIP suite, has been a symbol of Palmer’s vast wealth and accompanying extravagance since acquiring it in 2021.

As the evening slowly unfolded and the sun dipped below the horizon, the yacht remained stuck approximately one kilometre from the shoreline. Despite the bustling waters of the Singapore Strait and the presence of a police speedboat, no immediate rescue operation was initiated. The yacht seemed to have navigated inside a buoy marking shallow waters, an unusual and potentially costly error.

“It’s very, very difficult to make this kind of mistake, so maybe they had some problem with the motor,” commented an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous…

“This is just at the exit of the marina; it is absolutely clear that you can’t put the boat between those two buoys. You can’t do that. Even if you are a jet skier like me, you know that. So I think they must have had a problem with the boat, the motor.” Anonymous Witness

Speculation continues as to whether Palmer was on board during the incident. The Marine Traffic website indicated that the yacht had recently registered a trip to Port Moresby, though it never enjoyed this journey due to the unexpected incident. At present, no official statement has been issued by Palmer or his spokesperson regarding the situation.

The area where the yacht ran aground is typically considered to rest at a depth of five meters. Locals suggested that if the Australia had struck sand instead of reef and sustained minimal damage, the rising tide later that night might facilitate an easy release. However, the afternoon’s low tide was exceptionally low, making unfortunate timing a crucial factor at play here.

As this strange maritime spectacle rolls on, questions remain about the circumstances leading to the grounding, the future of the superyacht, and — perhaps most puzzlingly of all — Palmer’s own whereabouts.

Australia watches with bated breath to see if its namesake superyacht can survive its unlucky ordeal off the Singaporean coast.

Politician’s $40million Superyacht Runs Aground

Clive Palmer, the Australian billionaire, had an unfortunate day this last month, when his superyacht ran aground just off the coast of Sentosa, Singapore. The $40million yacht is 56 meters in length and was named ‘Australia’ by the former politician.

It is believed that there may have been a problem with the motor on the afternoon of 16th October, causing the vessel to unfortunately, drift inside a navigational buoy. The yacht was stranded in shallow water until high tide, when they were able to free and refloat her.

It is not clear whether 69-year-old Clive Palmer was on board the yacht when the incident occurred, or if there was any damage caused. Australia is now currently anchored at Keppel Bay, Singapore.

The yacht, 'Australia', was built in 2012 by the illustrious shipyard Benetti and reflects their reputation of sophistication and grandeur, with design work by Stefano Natucci.

The 11-year-old vessel was originally owned by the perennial richest person in New Zealand; Graeme Hart (Net worth $8.2 billion), who commissioned the yacht and named her Ulysses. Later, she changed hands and was renamed BASH by her then owner, Lebanese businessman; Bassim Haidar (Net worth $400 million), before finally changing ownership to the Australian tycoon; Clive Palmer (Net worth $1.9 billion), who renamed her again.

The yacht has a top speed of 16 knots, driven by her twin diesel Caterpillar engines. She can effortlessly endure a range of 3,000 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots. She can accommodate 12 overnight guests and has a dedicated crew of 12 for any voyage.

After spamming voters with texts that were “annoying”, Clive Palmer, rose to the top of the list of most hated politicians in Oz. The mining mogul was even labelled as an “enemy of the state” by Mark McGowan. So, it is safe to say that many Australians would have found his misfortune on Monday 16th October quite amusing.
