We did the captains station which was great. You got to pick and choose from a lot of different options and kind of make your own meal. There are so many salads and sides in the captains station and the entree options swap based on themes. Would highly recommend the captains station if you come here. Food was pretty good but nothing exceptional. Not the best but pretty good overall. Only small complaint is if you go to get dessert from the captains station too close to close a lot of things are gone. The service was very good and the ambience and view is beautiful and nice.

The queen of Jersey Shore yacht clubs. Relaxed yet elegant, formal yet friendly, BHYC offers the best tennis/pickle courts, cuisine, and dockage around. Spectacular views of Barnegat Bay from the upper deck makes it a special place to enjoy cocktails especially at sunset. Remember it's private so you need an invitation from a member. If you receive one, don't pass it up!

Was a guest this weekend and had a great time!! This is truly a great venue for a wedding or bridal shower! The beautiful views out the back deck are gorgeous! The staff was very kind and I loved that they had valet service as well! Would recommend if you are looking for a venue in the area- of course as a guest I can't comment on pricing/flexibility or what how it is to work with them but I felt as a guest they had a beautiful space and overall fun venue!! Also bathrooms were very nice!!!

This is a very good place to eat if you are a member at the club. The food is excellent but the prices are a little high. The workers are always nice and willing to lend a hand. Over all a great place to grab a bite if you are a member at the club.

Had a Saturday dinner in the Merrick Center and it was good. Service was good not great and food was decent. The setup, however, is great. There were a good number of people and a good atmosphere.

Went for lunch at the snack bar, and the food was really good. The specials are special for sure. It was very empty at 3pm, but still some people there. You have to be a member to eat here.

Bay head yacht club: a comprehensive look at its history, facilities, and financials

Fletcher Irvine

The storied history of Bay Head Yacht Club

A glimpse into the past: origins and evolution.

The Bay Head Yacht Club, often referred to as the 'jewel of Barnegat Bay,' has a rather compelling history that dates back to its founding in 1888. Nestled in the snug harbor of Bay Head, New Jersey, the club was established by local enthusiasts who shared an undeniable passion for yachting and watersports.

During the late 19th century, yachting began to capture the hearts of many Americans. It was during this period of burgeoning interest that visionaries like Captain Charles Reeves of New York and Philadelphia residents laid the foundation of the Bay Head Yacht Club. Their goal was to create a social and recreational hub for yacht lovers and to promote sailing along the picturesque Barnegat Bay.

Remarkably, the club survived the tests of time, weathering storms and evolving trends. During the early 20th century, the club saw many of its facilities modernized and expanded, a testament to its resilience and adaptability. Despite occasional setbacks, the Bay Head Yacht Club remained a cornerstone of the local community.

Milestones and notable moments

There are several key milestones that have shaped the legacy of the Bay Head Yacht Club. One such milestone is its inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, a recognition that pays tribute to its role in the nautical tradition of the U.S. According to a deep dive into luxury and design article, historic yachts have had a profound influence on today's vessel innovations, and clubs like Bay Head Yacht Club play a crucial part in preserving this heritage.

Tradition of community and camaraderie

Throughout its storied history, the Bay Head Yacht Club has never swerved from its roots of fostering community spirit and camaraderie. It has long been a place where members can come together, swap sailing stories, and create memories. From its elegant clubhouse, built in the classic shingle style architecture synonymous with the Jersey Shore, to its inviting beachfront, the club stands as a living testament to a shared passion for the sea.

State-of-the-art facilities at Bay Head Yacht Club

Modern amenities for a luxurious experience.

The Bay Head Yacht Club offers well-maintained facilities that cater to both members and guests. The clubhouse, a centerpiece of the club, boasts a design that seamlessly merges tradition with modern comfort. The space accommodates a range of activities and is complete with stunning views of Barnegat Bay.

Undeniable charm of the clubhouse

The clubhouse itself, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has an old-world charm that is carefully preserved. Members and visitors alike will appreciate its blend of legacy and comfort.

In addition to the clubhouse, the club features extensive outdoor areas, such as a picturesque backyard that is ideal for social gatherings and events. The popularity of the club isn't just based on its history—but also on these exceptional facilities.

Gourmet dining for members

Gourmet dining is another highlight. The clubhouse offers a dining experience that rivals luxury restaurants. Casual or formal, the club's dining services provide everything from daily specials to gourmet dishes, making each meal memorable. Members rave about the exclusive menus crafted by top-tier chefs.

Yachting and aquatic activities

This wouldn’t be a yacht club without top-level yachting and related services. The club’s facilities include an impressive fleet of boats and yachts, available for use by members. The slips are well-organized and easily accessible, ensuring that getting out on the water is as straightforward as parking and driving off in a car.

Exquisite facilities for events

Making the club even more noteworthy are its specialized spaces for events. Imagine hosting a wedding or a major celebration surrounded by the elegant charm of the clubhouse and the scenic beauty of the bay. It's no surprise Bay Head Yacht Club is a sought-after venue for weddings and large gatherings. Want your special day to stand out? This club provides an unforgettable backdrop.

Member-exclusive amenities

Becoming a member means access to all these amazing amenities. From programs offering sailing lessons to social activities for all age groups, the yacht club is more than just a facility; it’s a community.

Yearly initiation fees, fiscal transparency, and member satisfaction are focuses for staying in good standing with the community and the IRS. For those curious about the specifics, be sure to peek here to get a sense of why historic aspects still hold a timeless appeal.

Financial health and transparency: Bay Head Yacht Club's fiscal data

Financial insights: balancing the books at bay head yacht club.

The honor of nautical heritage isn't the only facet that Bay Head Yacht Club excels at. Financial health and transparency are just as crucial. With an emphasis on maintaining a balanced fiscal portfolio, the club ensures that both members and the community see where their contributions are going.

Tax forms and nonprofit status

As a nonprofit organization, Bay Head Yacht Club files an IRS Form 990, a public document that details various aspects of their financial activities. This form is critical in providing transparency regarding revenue, expenses, and the allocation of resources. According to the 2021 filings, the club's total assets amounted to $16.3 million, with total revenue reaching approximately $4.5 million. These numbers signify robust financial management, stewarded under the keen eye of General Manager Holly Bilotti and Controller James Cadranell .

Revenues, expenses, and net income

The club garners revenue from various streams, including initiation fees, membership dues, and program services. In the fiscal year 2021, revenue from initiation fees alone was $1.2 million, while program services generated $2.7 million. Their investment income added another $300,000 to the coffers. Balancing these streams ensures that the club can meet its obligations and provide top-tier services to its members.

Expenses are another critical area. In the same fiscal year, total expenses amounted to $3.8 million, covering everything from employee salaries to maintenance of facilities and hosting events. This leaves the net income at $700,000, which is reinvested into the club to enhance the facilities and club programs.

Contributions and community programs

One of the essential functions of the Bay Head Yacht Club is its contributions to the local community. In 2021, program services and community contributions accounted for over $250,000. This encompasses support for local sailing programs, upkeep of the Barnegat Bay , and various charitable activities.

Asset management: total and net assets

Managing assets efficiently is key to the club's long-term sustainability. As of the latest fiscal year, the club's total assets were valued at $16.3 million, while their net assets—calculated by subtracting liabilities from total assets—stood at $12 million. This prudent asset management ensures the club's continued appeal and functionality.

Initiating transparency: a key to trust

Transparency is more than just a buzzword at Bay Head Yacht Club; it's the foundation of their financial health. By publicly sharing their financial data, from IRS filings to detailed revenue breakdowns, the club builds trust among members and the broader community. For an institution that has been around for over a century, this commitment to openness is a significant reason behind its lasting success.

This comprehensive approach to financial health ensures that Bay Head Yacht Club remains a thriving, sustainable organization, offering unparalleled facilities and programs to its members.

Membership and initiation fees at Bay Head Yacht Club

Exclusive membership perks and initiation fees.

Joining the Bay Head Yacht Club isn't just about the prestige; it's also about accessing an array of exclusive perks and top-notch facilities. For prospective members, the initial step involves paying initiation fees, which currently stand at $20,000. This one-time fee grants access to the club’s iconic services and events held throughout the year.

Annual fees and what you get

Once you're in, the annual membership fees are around $5,000. These fees cover the upkeep and enhancement of the club's amenities, ensuring you get the best experience possible. Members can enjoy the clubhouse, dining services, sailing lessons, and much more, all designed to foster a vibrant social and recreational environment.

Tax implications and financial transparency

As a nonprofit organization, Bay Head Yacht Club makes its fiscal data publicly available. According to its IRS Form 990, the club had total assets of approximately $15 million in the last fiscal year. This includes cash, investments, and property value. The club's net income after expenses and investments was reported to be positive, reflecting sound financial health.

Understanding program services and contributions

It's important to highlight that the club's revenue isn't just from fees. Program services, contributions, and investment income also play significant roles. For instance, charity events and sponsorships add a considerable amount to the club's annual revenue, underscoring its dedication to community involvement and philanthropy.

The impact of fees on member experience

Initiation and annual fees go far beyond simple access costs; they fund the overall enhancement of member experiences. Holly Bilotti, the general manager, emphasizes, "Every penny from the fees goes into maintaining and upgrading our facilities, ensuring our members always have unparalleled experiences."

From a fiscal perspective, they operate with financial prudence, ensuring that all fees, including initiation fees for new members, are well accounted for. For the fiscal year ending in June 2022, their data show total revenue of $5.3 million, of which a significant portion is directed towards maintaining and enhancing their facilities, such as the clubhouse and marina.

Guest testimonials and expert opinion

James Cadranell, Commodore of the Bay Head Yacht Club, says, "Our goal has always been to deliver not just a venue but an experience that our members and guests will cherish for a lifetime."

Many guests have shared their experiences on social media, with a notable number citing the exceptional level of service and the breath-taking views as key highlights. “I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day,” said one recent bride, who celebrated her wedding at the club earlier this year.

The whole road is about 15 km and you can take dozens of similar photos on it. Thanks to the successful operation of drones, Russians are sitting in tree lines and  forests with a minimum of ammunition, food and water.
