The Parant 25 is a 24.93ft masthead sloop designed by Einar Ohlson and built in fiberglass by Fisksätra Shipyard between 1974 and 1980.

The Parant 25 is a moderate weight sailboat which is under powered. It is stable / stiff and has a low righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a coastal cruiser. The fuel capacity is originally very small. There is a very short water supply range.

Review of Parant 25

Basic specs..

The Parant 25 is equipped with a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel.

The keel is made of iron. Many people prefer lead keel in favour of iron. The main argument is that lead is much heavier than iron and a lead keel can therefore be made smaller which again result in less wet surface, i.e. less drag. In fact iron is quite heavy, just 30% less heavy than lead, so the advantage of a lead keel is often overstated. As the surface of a fin type keel is just a fraction of the total wet surface, the difference between an iron keel and a lead keel can in reality be ignored for cruising yachts.

Parant 25 can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.50 - 1.60 meter (4.92 - 5.22 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta MD11 diesel engine at 23.0 hp (17 kW), which gives a max speed about 6.8 knots.

The transmission is a saildrive.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 60.0 liters (15 US gallons, 13 imperial gallons).

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 6.3 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Parant 25 is about 129 kg/cm, alternatively 724 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 129 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 724 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Hello, friends! Today we have a Parant 25 motorsailer with a Volvo Penta MD6A engine for 4770 euro!

Location: Sweden

Length: 7.60 meters Width: 2.81 meters Draft: 1.50 meters Beds: 4 Kitchen (galley): available Toilet: available

The boat looks tidy and neat. The current owner took care of it and constantly improved it.

Hatches and seals have been replaced. The sprayhood has been renovated, now it is in very good condition. There is a small solar panel. A TV antenna is installed on the mast. The bottom of the boat is treated with epoxy.

There is a stove, sink and a spacious refrigerator in galley. The interior and cushions are in good condition. The cabin has an Eberspächer D2 diesel heater.

A windlass (anchor winch) with a stainless steel anchor of 10 kg and an anchor chain of 70 meters is installed on the bow.

Despite the small size of the boat, it has a toilet with a shower in a separate room. Previously, the shower was on the stern, but the owner decided to add more comfort.

The boat is equipped with a Volvo Penta MD6A diesel engine. The engine is clean and it was serviced in time. There is no information about operating hours in the ad. I recommend checking this with the owner before purchase.

Genoa with UV protection is on a furler, the mainsail has a cover and lazy jacks are in good condition.

There is a lot of useful and expensive equipment: the Raymarine ST6001 autopilot compatible with the Garmin GPSmap 188C chartplotter, three batteries, a 220V inverter and much more.

The owner also said that he can give an inflatable Mercury raft with a 2-stroke outboard engine Seahorse Johnson, but didn’t specify the terms.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some idea of whether a Yamaha 25 is a seaworthy enough boat for an Atlantic crossing? I don't hear much about them, probably because the are not sold in the US. I have heard a rumor or two of some crossing the Pacific to Hawaii? Small boat but seawothy? Thanks!  

Here's an owner review...doesn't seem like the best boat for extended cruising to me given the intended use and short tankage. Owner review of the Yamaha 25mkII by Lyn McClure  

The new issue of Good Old Boat has a review of the Yamaha 25. It doesn't mention an Atlantic crossing, but it gets a good review as a daysailer. I'm sure under the right conditions, it could make a crossing, heck, people have done it rowboats, but WHY would you want to?

It is said that an old lady in a bath tub can make it from the left coast to Hawaii with no nav gear or even a compass. But the "and back" bit is pretty impressive! That is no trip for the faint of heart.

Crewman collapses after fire breaks out on fishing boat

Fire crews boarded the burning boat to search for its crew

A crewman collapsed after a fire broke out on a fishing boat in Newlyn Harbour. Emergency services were called to the blaze at around 11.10pm last night (Tuesday, September 10).

The Penlee RNLI Lifeboat crew rushed to the scene as one crewman onboard the 25 metre-long boat managed to escape the fire. However, other members of the crew remained onboard and the lifeboat crew began extinguishing the flames with water hoses.

Firefighters from Penzance , St Just, Hayle and St Ives then arrived at the scene and used further hoses to tackle the fire. Two fireman got onboard the ship with breathing apparatus to search for the remaining crew.

The crewman that had escaped the boat then collapsed and required immediate medical attention. He was administered oxygen until paramedics arrived at the scene.

Thankfully, no one else was found onboard the boat and the fire was eventually extinguished. The lifeboat crews left the scene at around 12.40am this morning (September 11).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Five appliances from Penzance, St Just, Hayle and St Ives attended a boat fire in Newlyn . The boat measured 25 metres and was well alight on crews arrival.

"Firefighters used four breathing apparatus with a hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Once casualty suffering smoke inhalation was left in the care of Ambulance crew.

"Lifeboat, coastguard and police also attended the scene to assist with the incident."
