Sole Chef – 50m New Build – Private/Charter

We are looking for a motivated Sole Chef to join a 50m newly built motor yacht in the Med by the end of September. 

 This is an exciting project due to be launched any day now, the vessel will be dual season with plans to go to the Caribbean this winter. 

You will have to have your Ships Cook certificate in hand as well as Schengen if applicable. 

The yacht will be private / charter with the owner keen to push the charter side of things. Lovely owners who have chartered yachts before but are new to yacht ownership, this said they are really excited/invested in the project. 

We need a Chef with a proven history as a Sole Chef. Ideally, you will either have 18 months of yachting experience on a similar-sized vessel with a Michelin/fine dining background, or further experience as a yacht chef. This said, you must have at least some restaurant experience as a minimum. 

Crew of 10-12, there is a good dynamic onboard with a very experienced team in place.  

You must be well-versed in a range of cuisine styles as the vessel will charter, this said knowledge and experience with Asian cuisine would be good. 

The role will start with 60 days of leave. 

The salary will be 9,000 -/+ euros depending on experience. 

Start Date – ideally you will be able to join sooner rather than later, this said they will need someone within the next few weeks.

• The vessel has an incredible off-the-beaten-track itinerary, heading to some fantastic locations. This a fantastic opportunity for candidates looking to build miles and log sea time!
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 years experience and their YMO in hand, however, this is not a deal breaker.
• Any additional skills would be highly advantageous – the vessel runs a heavy dive programme, and therefore any additional diving experience or qualifications would be a huge bonus!
• There is an excellent crew culture onboard, with a solid team and proven longevity throughout,  along with fantastic HODs who are proactive when it comes to training.
• You must have a B1/B2 visa to be considered.
• On offer is a fantastic salary of $3,250+ DOE along with a very generous bonus scheme and training budget.

Deckhand – 40m Private / Charter – Dual Season

• A 40m+ Dual Season Private / Charter M/Y is looking for a Deckhand to join them at the beginning of October.
• This is a great opportunity to join a fast-paced vessel with busy charter usage across both the Med and Caribbean seasons.
• They are looking for someone with a minimum of 6 months experience on a similar sized vessel, with a good attitude and eager to get stuck in.
• You must have your AEC1 to be considered, this is non-negotiable. Having both your AEC1 and AEC2 would hugely support your application.
• Any experience with towing, or a strong watersports background would also be appealing.
• There is a great crew culture onboard, led by a Captain that encourages crew activities alongside a fantastic owner.
• B1B2 preferred.
• Salary on offer is €3,000 – €3,250 euros, along with 45 days leave and an equal split of tips. The vessel also offers both a 13 th month bonus and a generous training budget.

Deckhand – 90m Private / Charter – Dual Season

• A 90m+ Dual Season M/Y is looking for a Deckhand to join them by the beginning of October.
• This a great opportunity to join a vessel with a busy, dual-season programme, led by experienced HOD’s who create a fantastic crew culture and training environment onboard.
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 years’ experience on a vessel over 50m as well as their YMO in hand, however you must have a PB2 as a minimum. Any additional skills such as Diving, Videography or having your PWC Instructor would also hugely support your application.
• The vessel has an excellent culture onboard made up of like-minded crew who enjoy being active and socialising. Personality is key on this one, they are really looking for someone with the right attitude who can seamlessly fit in with the rest of the crew.
• B1B2 visa preferred.
• On offer is a salary of $3,500 USD, with 90 days leave along with a generous training budget.

We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our clients Yacht Management department in Palm Beach.

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this role is to support yacht owners and crew in maintaining and operating managed yachts effectively. You will ensure that these yachts are kept in optimal condition, maintained in class, reliable, ready for use when required, and compliant with all applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities: As a Technical Manager, you will provide technical oversight, guidance, and support to yacht managers for a designated fleet of vessels. Your responsibilities will include:

• Technical management according to the provisions of the Yacht Management Agreement.
• Ensuring machinery and engineering systems comply with the Company’s Safety Management System and the ISM Code (where applicable).
• Reviewing monthly maintenance reports and following up as needed.
• Assessing defect reports and providing guidance for rectification, including Flag or Class notification requirements.
• Conducting periodic yacht visits, preparing technical inspection reports, and following up on identified issues.
• Developing a long-term (5-year) plan for major works on each yacht.
• Assisting with the initial assessment of potential insurance claims, including investigation and evaluation of damage.
• Supporting routine dry dockings and maintenance periods by:
• Maintaining professional knowledge through self-directed learning and continuing professional development (CPD).

Requirements for the role:

• Second Engineer, STCW III/2 (Unlimited).
• Chief Engineer, STCW III/2 (Y1).
• STCW Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competency.
• Seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer on large yachts or as First Engineer on cruise ships.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to travel worldwide on short notice.

Villa Co-Manager

We are seeking a dedicated Villa Co-Manager to join our team at an exclusive waterfront estate in French Polynesia. This stunning property features 10 self-contained bedrooms, a pool, tennis court, volleyball court, salon, spa, and much more!

About the Estate:

• Principal Use: The villa is used by the principal for relaxation three times a year, each visit lasting one month. The property is not used for parties.
• Rental: The estate is rented to private clients 3-4 times a year with bookings made well in advance.
• Developments: Currently, a theatre and recording studio are under construction.
• Staffing: Approximately 11 staff members when guests are in residence, including chefs, housekeepers, gardeners, an assistant manager, and an activities manager. The team reduces to 8 staff when the estate is not occupied.

Role Overview:

As a Villa Co-Manager, you will work alongside an experienced local Co-Manager who is enthusiastic about welcoming additional support. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing the estate’s day-to-day operations, including planned maintenance and contractor coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

• Estate Management: Ensure the smooth running of the estate, focusing on planned maintenance.
• Contractor Coordination: Work with existing contractors for services including generators, electrical systems, HVAC, air conditioning, AVIT, pool maintenance, salon upkeep, and kitchen management.
• Maintenance: Provide first-fix options when possible. No dedicated maintenance staff are employed.
• Communication: Handle daily calls and weekly emails with the Principal to report on estate conditions and address any issues.

Requirements:

• Technical Background: Proven experience in a technical role within a superyacht or private estate setting.
• Luxury Experience: Previous experience in a luxury environment.
• Languages: Fluent in both French and English.
• Location Preference: European or local candidates preferred; non-US due to employment restrictions.
• The role is not suitable for families due to accommodation set-up

Job Overview:

Are you passionate about maintaining luxury standards and have experience working in high-end environments? We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Housekeeper to join a prestigious estate located in the picturesque Cotswolds, near Burford.

The Principals, who have previously chartered 50-60 metre sailing yachts, are looking to replicate the super yachting standards they value so highly. As part of a well-established housekeeping team, you’ll work under the guidance of the Head of Housekeeping (HOH), who will manage the team and rota.

• Ensure the general upkeep and pristine cleanliness of the estate.
• Work collaboratively with the housekeeping team to maintain high standards throughout the property.
• Use your knowledge of luxury materials to care for and clean surfaces with the appropriate products.
• Uphold the super yachting standard of service that our Principals would ideally like.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience working on larger estates or in high-end hotels.
• Luxury Material Knowledge: Familiarity with luxury materials and the correct cleaning products to use.
• Personal Qualities: Friendly, approachable, and personable, with a professional attitude.
• Team Player: Ability to work well within a team, supporting the HOH and colleagues.

House Manager

Position: house manager location: central london (near hyde park) salary: £45,000 per annum accommodation: live-in role, all bills included, about the role:.

We are seeking a reliable and responsible House Manager to take over from the retiring manager. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys ensuring the smooth operation and security of a high-end property in the heart of Central London.

• Provide security for the property when the owners are away
• Accept deliveries and manage incoming post
• Oversee the heating system and general upkeep of the property
• Ensure the property is well-maintained and secure at all times

Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience as a butler, concierge, or in a similar role is a plus, but not essential

Head Chef – Private Villa – Temp But Could Go Permanent

Private Chef needed to join a villa in Europe, with the potential to go permanent for the right candidate. 

We are looking for a Chef with an excellent background in private cheffing who wishes to be land-based. This role will be based in Spain to begin with so you must have the rights to work shore-side in Europe. Please do not apply if this is not the case.  

– The family are UHNWs so there is a possibility for lots of opportunity within the wider staffing. This position will start off as a temp project for about a month, but there could be a possibility for it to go permanent for the right candidate, what that role looks like will be a discussion to have with the team if things go well. 

– Must have a few years of experience working as a private Chef either on yachts or within households. Ideally you will also have a strong restaurant background. 

– Responsibilities will include daily service for the principals as well as maintenance of the kitchen – you must show initiative and keep the area clean, well stocked and running smoothly. 

– There is a large kitchen to work in, you will also have a Sous Chef who is already on site. 

– When it comes to the guest’s preferences, they are looking for a Chef who has a good knowledge of Japanese and Asian cuisine. They love Nobu style food so someone who can create similar dishes and flavours would be great. 

– Service style will depend, in general the principal likes things to be well presented but focuses more on the flavour. Things being ‘fancy’ is less important. 

– Salary is very competitive, it will depend on experience but could be up to €10,000 a month.

Eighty suspected suicides in NZ construction sector last year ‘highest on record’: new report

Eighty people working in New Zealand’s construction sector are suspected or confirmed to have died by suicide last year – the highest number on record from data which dates back 17 years, according to an organisation trying to prevent such deaths.

The numbers were released by MATES in Construction, which aims to reduce the number of lives lost to suicide.

“In 2023, 80 construction workers lost their lives to suspected suicide and 1628 required time off due to self-harming incidents,” said research presented yesterday to industry leaders, academics, government officials and mental health organisations at ASB North Wharf.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Lauren Donnan, MATES research and evaluation manager, said the organisation discovered the tragic number via an Official Information Act request made to the Ministry of Justice for information from Coronial Services.

The data dated back to 2007 and Donnan said never had so many lives been lost to suspected suicides in the sector as in 2023.

Cases can take up to five years to be confirmed so, at this stage, many of the 80 deaths remained suspected and yet to be confirmed, Donnan stressed.

“But it changes very little between suspected and confirmed,” she said.

Donnan said the chief coroner’s data showed 38 cases of death from suspected or confirmed suicide or intentional self-harm in the construction sector in 2019.

That rose to 61 deaths in 2020, 79 deaths in 2021, 77 deaths in 2022 and 80 deaths in 2023.

MATES and partners ASB and BRANZ presented the findings of the survey yesterday at ASB North Wharf.

Donnan said that provided factors and critical insights into the mental health challenges faced by workers and the impact of suicide on the industry.

“Our aim is to spark meaningful conversations and drive change on this pivotal day,” she said.

Around 2100 construction workers were surveyed, chosen for being diverse in age, ethnicity, suffering disabilities or illnesses and occupations.

Despite uncovering the highest number of suspected suicides in the sector in the data dating back to 2007, the report emphasised a positive upward trend in mental health during the past three years.

“Tripled response rate compared to previous years’ survey, highlighting a growing awareness and engagement. Key stressors include lack of sleep, minimal self-care time, high job demands, long hours worked, tight timeframes on builds. Specific mental health vulnerabilities noted among 15- to 24-year-olds and Māori workers,” the report said.

Common stressors across all groups including migrant workers, apprentices, blue-collar and white-collar were financial instability, poor communication, site culture of old-school masculinity, low pay, job insecurity, and insufficient mental health support.

Central Queensland University did an evaluation to quantify the cost of suicidal behaviour to our construction industry, and the impact of MATES suicide prevention programme in reducing that cost.

MATES is headed by John Chapman, who presented at yesterday’s event and says the entity has reached more than 85,000 workers.

It has a volunteer network of more than 5000 construction workers trained in suicide prevention.

In 2022, the Herald reported on deaths and injuries from all causes in the construction sector.

By around September that year, 1431 workplace injuries, accidents and serious harm had been reported.

Data from Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa WorkSafe NZ showed the industry with the highest number of fatalities remains transport, postal and warehousing

WorkSafe said from January to June last year, there were 37 fatalities: six were in the construction sector.

Work-related fatalities are deaths that occur as a result of injury from work. The data includes workers who die from injuries while working as well as members of the public who die as a result of someone else’s work activity.

It excludes deaths from natural causes and self-harm, WorkSafe said.
