The 92-foot (28m) motor yacht Sunseeker 28M was built in 2012 and delivered in 2013 by the renowned shipyard Sunseeker International.

Showcasing a refined aesthetic in satin finished oak, this Sunseeker 28M's interior is beautiful. Her main salon was fitted with fine joinery and polished chrome fixtures; settees to port and starboard, armchairs, custom-made coffee tables and a dining area ensure complete comfort while aboard. Additionally, a hydraulic balcony is located on the yacht’s starboard side. Alfresco dining is available on the aft deck, which is home to built-in upholstered seating, a dining table and concealed speakers. The motor yacht has benefitted from Sunseeker’s Platinum Upgrade Package, which includes several extra fittings, such as carbon-fiber hardtop, trac Zero Speed stabilizers, three generators, a Jacuzzi on the flybridge and much more. In 2016, sheunderwent a comprehensive refit that enhanced her A/V systems, network and CCTV system. Sunseeker 28M is powered by twin 1,950hp MTU diesel engines, enabling a top speed of 29 knots and cruising speed of 23 knots.

The Sunseeker 28 Metre Yacht “DIABLO” is without doubt one of the most unique Sunseeker’s ever built. This highly successful model from the British Shipyard blew the competition away when the first hull of the series ran off the production line in 2012. Her unique hull design allowed for expansive height throughout the vessel. None more so than in the lower deck full beam master cabin.

The moment you step on-board DIABLO her condition will astound you. Meticulously maintained and seldom used by her current owner this is an opportunity to acquire an “as new, turnkey” vessel at a fraction of the new build price.

DIABLO boasts a highly unique interior finished in high gloss black and deep red lacquer. The benefit of the lacquer finish over traditional walnut or oak materials is the ability to replace and change areas of the vessel without the risk of colour matching issues. Therefore, if the deep red lacquer is not to your taste then this can be modified and changed very easily.

DIABLO boasts 4 cabins on her lower deck. There are a further two cabins on the lower deck, a Double Guest Cabin and a Twin Guest Cabin, both of which are en-suite.

The Main Deck on DIABLO benefits from panoramic glass windows in the saloon as well as a sliding patio door and hydraulic balcony on the starboard side. The Saloon features a free-standing dining area for up to 8 guests as well as a capacious seating and sofa area on the port side. The Galley features an opening side door for access to the port side deck, excellent not only when cooking but also for independent crew access to avoid them having to pass through the saloon. The Galley features an open breakfast bar that can be closed by her electric fixed partition should you wish for the crew to cook in privacy.

The main deck helm is located forward of the unique bar area that the owner specified on this particular 28 Metre Yacht. To the portside of the helm is a crew/owner navigation/work station that provides privacy from the guests and an excellent viewing position whilst underway.

Perhaps one of the most striking and unique features on the Sunseeker 28 Metre Yacht is her forward bow area. The high sided hull design of the 28 Metre Yacht has allowed for the creating of a class leading open flat deck area forward. This area is without doubt one of the standout features of the Sunseeker 28 Metre Yacht. With fixed sunbathing to both port and starboard as well as a U-Shaped dining and seating area the bow section comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests across her various areas.

DIABLO boasts a stunning glass fronted Jacuzzi on her flybridge as well as a large bar area and sun pads both forward and stern. The flybridge layout on DIABLO is quite frankly stunning. DIABLO is one of very few Sunseeker 28 Metre Yachts to boast a crane on her flybridge, perfect for accommodating a jet ski whilst the tender remains on her hydraulic rise and fall bathing platform.

The Carbon Fibre Hard Top features a retractable centre section allowing the flybridge to bath in sunshine on those warm summer days. With her Fin Stabilizer System DIABLO is extremely comfortable whilst at anchor or underway ensuring that even the weakest sea legs stay firmly on the ground.

Sunseeker 28 Metre review: First look at the luxury yacht – from the archive

The pattern of Sunseeker’s new model evolution reminds me of an Olympic long jumper – a series of short steps followed by the occasional giant leap. From the moment I clap eyes on the new Sunseeker 28 Metre taking shape at the company’s factory in Poole, it is clear that this is one of those big leaps.

Due to be unveiled at January’s 2013 London Boat Show, it marks a step change in the look and feel of Sunseeker’s larger craft that will soon be filtering up and down the range.

The fact that it sits squarely at the junction between the top of Sunseeker’s current Yacht range and the bottom of its Metre class of superyachts is no coincidence. It was precisely this desire to bring superyacht features within the reach of existing Yacht owners that kick-started the creative process.

Chris Warde from Sunseeker superyacht sales says: “Feedback from 88 Yacht customers was clear – they not only wanted big-boat features like folding balconies, deep bulwarks and foredeck seating but a more imposing appearance too.”

That task fell to Sunseeker’s design director, Ewen Foster, whose brief was to create an entirely new look that combined the volume and substance of the Yacht range with the dynamism and appeal of the Predator range.

The answer lay in creating a form that matched the function. The three key design innovations, which immediately distinguish the 28 Metre from its siblings, are the unusual swooping sheerline, the contrasting black pilothouse and a swathe of vertical windows wrapping around the aft section of the superstructure.

Like most great designs, all three of these ideas were inspired as much by their functional benefits as the desire to create a distinctive new look.

Foredeck seating and sunpads are sheltered from prying eyes and sea breezes

“The swooping Coke bottle sheerline is a nod to a more classic Sunseeker look,” says Foster. “But we also needed higher foredeck bulwarks to protect the sunbeds at the bow and create extra headroom in the VIP cabin below.”

When he puts it like that, it sounds strangely mundane and yet the effect it has is anything but. From the outside the huge raised bow gives the Sunseeker 28 Metre the kind of presence usually reserved for worldcircling explorer yachts, while on board the waist-high bulwarks with their chunky 8in wide cappings and stainless steel guardrails feel more like those you’d find on the side decks of a megayacht.

Intriguingly the cappings and all the outside decks spaces are not laid with real teak planking but Esthec, a new type of man-made decking that has the texture and feel of wood but with more modern looks and much lower maintenance requirements. “There will always be some traditionalists who prefer real wood,” admits Warde. “But we felt that Esthec’s environmental and maintenance credentials were well suited to a forward-looking yacht such as this.”

Innovative designs for the Sunseeker 28 Metre

The shiny black forward section of the superstructure moulding is also inspired by its functionality, namely the desire to reduce the overall build weight and centre of gravity by using modern lightweight materials such as carbon fibre. “We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of technology without jeopardising the quality or reliability of our craft,” confirms Warde.

Although carbon fibre is used to mould the flybridge hardtop, much of the deckhead and many of the structural elements, the pilothouse coachroof is in fact a conventional GRP moulding that has been covered in a glossy black 3M vinyl with the chequered appearance of woven carbon fibre. It may be an optical illusion but it works, reducing the visual bulk of the superstructure and imbuing it with a more sophisticated technical appearance.

However, the most spectacular of the three major design innovations on the Sunseeker 28 Metre, and the one that is likely to draw admiring glances from customers and rival designers alike, is the bold sweep of glass that encircles the aft end of the saloon.

The trend for ever larger saloon windows is nothing new but this is the first time we’ve seen an unbroken run of vertical windows, stretching from amidships to amidships around the stern without a mullion or pillar to interrupt the exterior styling. The effect from inside the saloon is even more startling. Despite its unfinished state at the time of our visit, the open plan living area felt more like a penthouse in one of those ultra-modern glazed apartment blocks than the saloon of a planing sportsyacht.

Gone are the slashes of glass and GRP that have dominated the looks of almost every large flybridge yacht for the last 20 years, to be replaced with huge 2m x 1.1m rectangular panes of flat reinforced glass butted up against each other. Even the normal structural aft mullions, which yards typically use to support the flybridge above, as well as hide everything from air conditioning vents to cabling, have been replaced with curved sections of glass. As a result you can now enjoy an unbroken 270º view of your surroundings.

“Early on, we were attracted by the idea of creating a panoramic saloon,” says Foster. “On Med boats the saloon hardly gets used because guests prefer to be outside, so we wanted to add as much glass as possible to make it a more usable indoor-outdoor space.

“It was a challenge to have so much glass and still maintain sufficient strength in the structure. It also meant we’d need to give it a very different look so we decided to make the glass a key feature of the design with an unashamedly upright look.”

They achieved the necessary structural integrity by using a superstiff cockpit door frame that can withstand over 6 tonnes of compression and two deep but slender girders each side of it, which support the flybridge structure but barely interrupt the sightlines from the saloon.

To make the most of this goldfish bowl effect the sideboard to starboard (complete with 55in pop-up television) and the two big sofas to port have been designed to sit just below the window line.

The freestanding dining table takes pride of place further forward so that it enjoys the full width of the opening side door and folding bulwark section. It’s not hard to imagine settling in here for the evening, looking out over the folded balcony as a thyme-scented Mediterranean breeze wafts down from the hillsides surrounding the bay.

The galley opposite can be hidden from view with a roller shutter or left open for guests to admire the chef at work. Of course if you prefer your meals truly alfresco there is still a choice of no less than three outside dining tables to pick from: the large U-shaped dinette in the cockpit, an even larger one up on the flybridge or the more private setting on the foredeck.

Sunseeker 28 Metre – Below decks

Down below the layout follows a similar pattern to the 88 Yacht but the extra volume of the 28 Metre’s hull and the multitude of oversized portholes (all of the four cabins have at least one) create an even more inviting experience. The master suite and the two guest cabins are accessed via a gently curving staircase in the saloon. Unlike the 88 Yacht, this doesn’t intrude into the master suite’s deckhead, so the bed now faces forward with a walk-in wardrobe to port and a lavish ensuite bathroom to starboard.

The VIP suite in the bows is almost a match for the master. The tapering beam means there isn’t quite as much floor space around the bed, and the walk-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom aren’t quite so big, but the added privacy of a separate stairwell leading down from the bridge is a luxury that even the master suite can’t compete with.

Gratifyingly, the crew accommodation in the stern also receives a significant boost. The large transom window lets natural light flood into the mess area where crew can relax, cook, watch television or access the engineroom without disturbing the guests. A pair of twin bunk cabins either side with a bathroom and proper walk-in shower completes this surprisingly comfortable self-contained living space.

It does of course mean there is no covered tender garage but a large hydraulic bathing platform and a crane on the flybridge ensure there is still plenty of space to carry a mini-RIB and a PWC on board.

To complement the new exterior styling, the interior also breaks new ground with a move away from rectilinear furniture towards softer curves, colours and fabrics. There are 230 different fabrics to choose from, 28 leathers, ten lacquers, eight granites and marbles and three woods (oak, walnut and cherry), which can be finished in anything from 40-100% gloss varnish.

The choice could prove bewildering so Sunseeker have also come up with a series of 14 mood boards to show how the various colours mix and match. With names like Kiwi & Caviar and Truffle & Cointreau it sounds more like the menu in a new-wave bistro than custom yacht interiors but they should prevent any ill-advised colour combinations.

If this all sounds a bit too soft and cuddly for such a big boy’s toy, you’ll be relieved to hear that it’s very much business as usual in the engineroom. A pair of 1,925hp CAT C32s or 2,000hp MTU 12Vs on tunnel-mounted shafts give an estimated top speed of 29 knots.

Foster admits that the brief for the 28 Metre’s hull was to maximise cruising comfort and efficiency in the 20-25 knot range rather than all-out speed but assures us that it will retain Sunseeker’s usual handling characteristics. We certainly hope so. We’re all for embracing change when it comes to the 28 Metre’s looks but some things are better left untouched.

Bayesian yacht captain faces manslaughter probe after deadly sinking in Sicily

(CNN) —  The captain of the luxury  Bayesian yacht  that sank near Porticello, off the coast of Sicily, last week will face an investigation into possible charges of manslaughter and  negligent shipwreck , the Italian prosecutor’s office announced Monday.

James Cutfield, 51, was the head of crew aboard the 56-meter (184-foot) sailing boat when it capsized in the throes of a ferocious storm last Monday, killing six passengers, including British tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah. The yacht’s chef Recaldo Thomas also likely died in the wreck.

The other victims were Morgan Stanley International director Jonathan Bloomer, prominent American lawyer Chris Morvillo, and both of their wives – Judy Bloomer and Neda Morvillo. Chris Morvillo, a partner at Clifford Chance, was involved in successfully defeating the US fraud case against Lynch  in June .

Cutfield and 14 other people survived the sinking, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares.

A weather phenomenon known as a waterspout – one of several types of tornadoes – is thought to have capsized the yacht. But Italian authorities are investigating whether the crew’s actions and their handling of the boat contributed to the deadly sinking.

New-Zealand born Cutfield is not in custody, according to Italian prosecutors, but he cannot leave the country while the investigation is ongoing. Maritime law gives a captain full responsibility for the ship, crew, and all on board, according  to Reuters .

Those killed were likely asleep at the time of the storm, a prosecutor said at  the weekend , which is why they were unable to escape. On Saturday, the prosecutor and head of the fire brigade recovery team both said five bodies were found in the same room of the ship, which may have meant they were searching for an air pocket while the ship sank.

Investigators warned that the circumstances of the sinking remain largely unclear, including whether there was a black box onboard the ship, and if some of the ship’s hatches were left ajar – which would explain why it sank so rapidly.

The CEO of the firm that owns the boat’s manufacturer, The Italian Sea Group, claimed  the yacht  was “unsinkable.” Giovanni Costantino told Sky News sailing ships “are the safest in the most absolute sense.”

Salvage crews are expected to raise the Bayesian – named after the statistical theory on which Lynch made his fortune – in the coming weeks. Under Italian law, the cost of raising and salvaging the ship falls on the ship’s owner.

As Bacares’ company owns the vessel, they must find a salvage company and raise the ship, which is then handed to Italian authorities as part of the investigation, the main prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said on Saturday.

After the yacht is raised, investigators will determine if the hatches were open during the storm, Cartosio added.

Italian prosecutors will also investigate whether the ship’s chief mate was on the bridge when the ship sunk, and if anyone tried to warn the passengers of imminent danger.

A superyacht belonging to billionaire Liverpool owner John W Henry was spotted in Scottish waters this weekend during a trip around the country.

The 10-year-old vessel, which is 66-metres-long, was pictured in Aberdeen , after appearing in the harbour on Saturday, August 24 after leaving Leith.

The boat , which was built in 2014, was bought by the Liverpool FC owner, thought to be worth $5billion, in 2016. And it sailed to the Granite City as the owner took in his side's 2-0 Premier League win over Brentford at Anfield.

Aberdeen Live reports there was no sign of the American in Aberdeen, and that the yacht departed on Monday, heading south along the east coast.

Henry first took over the English footballing giants back in 2010 when Fenway Sports Group purchased Liverpool, with the group also owning American baseball outfit Boston Red Sox.

Originally built under the name Ester III and delivered in 2014 by German company Lurssen. On its website, Lurssen states "Elysian features strong lines and an extraordinary deck layout and near-vertical bow.

'distress call' from yacht prompts emergency response, isle of wight rescue to yacht in distress off st catherine's.

Rescue teams are responding to a distress call from a yacht in trouble off the Isle of Wight this morning (Thursday).

HM Coastguard was alerted to St Catherine’s Head at around 9.15am.

A sailing vessel suffered engine difficulties, a spokesperson confirmed.

Bembridge RNLI was tasked, alongside three nearby vessels who responded to the distress call.

The sailing vessel is currently being towed to a safe port in the Solent.

Horror CCTV footage shows the moment a terrifying storm engulfed a superyacht carrying 22 people before it capsized near Siciily.

A desperate search is continuing for those missing on the 56-metre luxury yacht, named the Bayesian, who could be relying on air pockets to survive.

The boat capsized and sank on Monday (August 19) at around 5am after a horrific storm hit the area, with expert divers continuing their desperate search for those onboard, reports the Mirror.

Authorities confirmed on Monday that one man had tragically died following the incident, while six others currently remain missing.

The vessel, located off the coast of Palermo, Sicily, is believed to be owned by the family of British tycoon Mike Lynch, who is among those yet to be found, along with his 18-year-old daughter Hannah. Fifteen people, including a one-year-old baby, were saved by nearby ship Sir Robert Baden Powell, which was anchored close by.

A new CCTV clip taken from a villa only 200m away from the accident has emerged, and shows the £14million vessel slowly disappearing off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, as it is engulfed by the heavy rain. Lights from the yacht can also be seen in the distance before tragedy strikes.

One witness told how he went to check his cameras after hearing the news of the sinking, according to Giornale Di Sicilia. The owner of the villa said: "In just sixty seconds, you can see the ship disappear. Of about twenty cameras installed in the house, only one was not disturbed by the wind and rain. You can clearly see what is happening. There was nothing that could be done for the boat. It disappeared in a very short time."

Specialist drivers are now frantically fighting their way through blockages in the 50m deep wreck in an effort to find the missing six people. Vincenzo Zagarola, a spokesman for the coast guard, said they believe they may still be inside the yacht, as it sank in just a few minutes.

He said: "We think they are still inside the boat, that is our very hard idea. Our search and rescue activity by sea and air has gone on for around 36 hours. Of course, we do not exclude that they are not inside the boat, but we know the boat sank quickly. We suppose that the six people missing may not have had time to get out of the boat."

It comes as an expert has claimed passengers could still be alive due to air pockets inside the sunken yacht. Nick Sloane, an engineer who worked on the Costa Concordia salvage operation, warned that rescuers are entering a 'critical' 24-hour period to rescue anyone who may have survived.

"They've got a very small window of time to try and find people stuck inside with hopefully an air pocket, and they could be rescued," he explained. "You've got a maximum of two to three days to try to get someone out, so the next 24 hours are critical."
