Yacht Walkthrough: 76′ Cheoy Lee Motoryacht [PAESANA]

Yacht Walkthrough: 76′ Cheoy Lee Motoryacht [PAESANA]

December 12, 2018 10:57 am

Alex Clarke from Denison Yachting and today I’m going to take you onboard the 2012 76′ Cheoy Lee Alpha Express Cruiser , named PAESANA. Tied to the dock, or hitting her top speed of 37 knots, which is over 40 miles an hour, the first thing that you’re going to notice about PAESANA is her aggressive profile lines that has performance to match.

We’re going to start today’s walkthrough here on the full-beam transom. The teak decks that we see here underfoot carry all the way to the bow. Here on the transom, you have direct access to your tender garage, which houses a Williams 285 jet tender.

Moving forward you have extra wide steps both the port and starboard that carry you up onto the aft deck. So the centerpiece of this top deck is the dinette where at the push of a button, these tables lower, great for cocktail hour. Directly aft of the seating area, you’re going to have a large pad great for enjoying the sun. Hidden below it, is a Jacuzzi, something you’re typically not going to find on a boat this size. You have a retractable awning that folds flush while not in use. And all the way forward, you’re going to have your wet bar, complete with sink and ice maker.

This 76′ Alpha Express is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 engines that are 1900 horsepower each. They’ve got just under 1600 original hours and then you have your 32 kW Onan generator with 4400 hours, which just completed its 4000 hour service. What’s great about Cheoy Lee is not only do they over engineer their yachts but they use components onboard that are easily serviced all over the world; in this case, Caterpillar and Onan.

76' Cheoy Lee Alpha Express PAESANA Cockpit

Before stepping inside why don’t we continue to the bow which is easily accessible by full walk arounds, both to port and starboard. The aft section features a nice sitting area with JL Audio surround sound. Forward, you’re going to have your sunpads and again keeping with that profile that the Alpha Express has, all of your deck gear is actually hidden below these hatches. Before we leave the bow, why don’t we face aft and you’re going to really notice the space-age lines that define what the Alpha Express is all about.

Now that we’ve highlighted the exterior spaces onboard, why don’t we step into the main salon where we’ll continue our walkthrough of the interior. Here we are in the main salon and the first thing that you’re going to notice is this awesome use of glass. So one of the key design features of this space is that you can actually combine the interior and exterior spaces into one by lowering this glass partition and swinging open these two glass doors.

To port and centerline, you’re going to have two love seats that comfortably seat six guests and to starboard is your pop-up TV. This modern helm station features three glass boning monitors. These three glass monitors easily interfaces your shipboard monitoring system, radar, chart plotter and depth sounder. Here at the helm station what’s great is that when you’re actually sitting in one of the three captain’s chairs, you have perfect 360-degree visibility and easy access to your rudder, throttles and joystick – all within an arm’s reach.

76' Cheoy Lee Alpha Express PAESANA Helm

Stepping forward from the main salon, you’re going to step down into the lower lounge area that’s connected to the galley. Stepping down in the atrium galley, you’re really going to have a totally different vantage point where you’re going to be able to appreciate the use of glass onboard.

On the starboard side, you’re going to have your L-shaped settee and dinette and opposite to port, your full service galley. The appliances in this full-service galley are GE profiled. You have your refrigerator freezer, convection oven, glass stovetop, trash compactor and dishwasher. Another nice little feature is this 12 bottle wine storage. Surrounding the space overhead is built-in storage.

Stepping down from the galley, you enter the full beam master cabin. To port, you’re going to have your athwartship king berth. To starboard, you’re going to have your settee complete with pop-up TV. Aft of those two spaces, you’re going to have a walk-in closet and ensuite master bath. Continuing forward towards the guest accommodations, below the corridor, we’re going to find evidence of how well maintained this yacht is. Here we find two spotless bilges and machine spaces. To starboard is the smallest of three cabins where you can have a bunk room that comfortably sleeps two guests. Opposite of that you’re going to have a full-service bath that also serves as your dayhead. All the way forward towards the bow is your VIP cabin, which features a centerline queen berth and ensuite bath.

The 98.4m superyacht Aviva was built for British businessman Joe Lewis who owns Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

Aviva: Inside the 98.4m Abeking & Rasmussen flagship yacht

The owner of Aviva challenged his design team to build a yacht around a padel tennis court — and 98m, 4,966GT and a mere three years later, she was launched.

She’s big — let’s get that out of the way. At 98.4 metres,  Aviva  became the 46th longest yacht in the world when she was delivered by  Abeking & Rasmussen  in 2017, and there are very few boats of her length that can match her for volume.

Her 17.24 metre beam is so generous that the designers pulled in the bridge deck superstructure to add side decks — improving crew circulation and refining the profile — because “we just didn’t need that much beam”.

They were right: spaces on board are magnificently expansive, from guest suites the size of the master suite on a 50 metre to an owner’s wardrobe that is, designer Andrew Langton notes quite seriously, “bigger than my house in France”. The fact that scale sits fairly low down on the list of Aviva ’s extraordinary features speaks to the imagination and belief-beggaring ambition of this project.

Aviva is the third yacht of her name delivered to owner Joe Lewis, British businessman and major shareholder in Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The first, a 62 metre Winch design, was built at Feadship in the Netherlands; the second, a 68 metre Reymond Langton design , at Abeking & Rasmussen on the banks of the Weser river in Lemwerder, near Bremen.

For his grandest project yet Lewis returned to Abeking. “They were, surprisingly, much less conservative than other people. Maybe it’s because of the military stuff they do,” says Toby Silverton, head of design on the project, working with Reymond Langton, and who was also involved in Lewis’s two previous projects.

The yard’s biggest project had been 82.48 metre Secret and to take on Aviva it extended its build shed to accommodate yachts of up to 125 metres — a bold move into a larger size category. And its courage didn’t end there.

“Build a big yacht around a padel tennis court was the main brief, I guess,” says the yard’s project manager Andreas Hering, with admirable understatement. “In three years.”

  • How 74.5m Abeking & Rasmussen Elandess sprang from a blank sheet of paper

A project of this size might easily take five years, even if the yard already had a shed big enough for the purpose. And this was a highly unusual project. Design was accelerated too: the complex interior was penned in six months, when they would have liked a year; and the exterior in just one month, when it might more comfortably have taken six.

Knowing that makes Aviva ’s elegant profile even more impressive. “There was a lot of work to [visually] break up the mass, using facets,” says Langton. “We also tried to keep the lines long, so the sheer line is very long and jumps up forward with a clean line.”

They also minimised the details that act as size references, to disguise the scale. Rub rails are eliminated, stanchions replaced with glass, crew quarters windows are grouped to create long lines of glazing and even the anchor pocket has been elongated and disguised, lest a little square of gleaming stainless gives the game away.

Some upright elements of the silver superstructure were also picked out in a darker shade. “They disappear a bit, which makes the slope of the boat more raked,” says Langton.

The long bow adds to the effect, but the aesthetic is the beneficiary of a practical decision: this boat will roam far and the long covered bow makes it likely to survive the kind of rogue waves that have battered a few cruise ships over the years.

“I talked to the captain of the QE2 who went through a wave, and what happens is all the wheelhouse windows smash, they had four foot of water, you then lose all your instruments and they had no ability to control the boat, communicate or navigate,” says Silverton.

To strengthen Aviva he added extra watertight doors and armoured the two forward VIP cabins and superyacht wheelhouse so that they could be sealed off to save the boat. “You can lose everything on the bridge and you can still navigate and control the boat from the engine room,” he says.

Apart from safety, the main aim of the naval architecture was stability. Before the build of Lewis’s second Aviva , Silverton had been frustrated by a lack of data on how rolling motion affects passengers, so he put 36 people in a motion simulator for three days.

“There’s two things: one is the period of roll and the second is the way it rolls,” he says. “The typical roll period of the 62 metre would be around 7.5-7.8 seconds, one of two roll periods people were particularly upset by. And we found that if it was a soft stop and then a soft movement away again, people were much more tolerant of it.”

The design of the second boat addressed those concerns and the new Aviva ’s hull — patent pending — is an evolution of that. It has a nipped in “waist” which bulges back out below the waterline. This both slows and softens the roll. Her near-vertical bow and narrow sailing boat-like stern (which helps reduce pitching) also aid efficiency.

So much so that they were able to go down two engine sizes from the original spec (she has two MTU 16V4000 M73Ls, which put out 2,880kW each) and still hit 20.3 knots in sea trials. Silverton notes that she runs most comfortably at a zippy 16.5 knots, despite an official cruising speed of 14 knots.

Supplementary electric motors offer smooth manoeuvring and silent 11 knot running at night, while extra solidity comes from MAGLift stabilisers aft and one pair of fin stabilisers forward.

But it is the padel tennis court that lies literally and metaphorically at the heart of this project. This high intensity squash-tennis hybrid is a daily routine for Lewis and his explorations with his previous yachts had been limited to destinations with courts.

“The original idea I had was to put it on the aft end main deck and have folding panels and sliding walls,” says Langton. “It never even entered my head to put it inside, because it’s so big.”

Not only would putting the court at the back have made for a profile that Langton likens to a pick-up truck, but Silverton notes that the court would not have been playable at main-deck level. “You’re way above the roll centre, so it’s moving sideways – humans can’t cope with sideways movement of the ground,” says Silverton. “So we looked at putting it as low down as possible.”

Achieving such a large area in that position was an engineering feat but the results are spectacular. Its dimensions short-circuit spatial understanding — it seems impossible that this towering 6.65 metre tall space could be accommodated in Aviva ’s profile.

But it is, and it functions beautifully. “We’re running along at 19 knots, white horses everywhere, and they’re downstairs playing padel having no idea that there’s any sea at all,” says Silverton.

This sort of intelligent ambition has transformed every space on board into something special. “The owner has been in many businesses – hospitality, hotels – so he really understands how spaces work,” says Silverton.

Apart from strategically placed pantries and concealed crew entrances, there are three massive dumb waiters, a lower deck entrance for loading supplies, a dedicated crew galley and much more. The final GA was version 57.

On the more glamorous side of this equation, the upper saloon is a highly functional family room that’s comfortable, bright and airy. The sofas are extra squashy, and there’s a games table as well as a sculptural Bogányi piano.

The head height is 2.6 metres and nine metres of openable full-height windows run along each side of the room – with balconies. Rather than the usual glass, doors to the aft deck are leather clad, making the room feel more private. In fine weather, with those doors open, glass panels slide out to surround the aft deck dining area, creating one long, protected inside/outside space.

Designing such a huge area without pillars for support was a challenge and the corners are, says Hering, packed with extra structure. “Also, in the ceiling, all the girders are very thick because the unsupported length is just enormous.”

In contrast to this space, the main saloon below is a glamorous introduction to Aviva , up the sweeping superyacht staircase from the swim platform and inside to take in starry pieces from the owner’s art collection from a round of sunken seating. Adding a dash of intrigue there’s a secret cinema forward of the space, behind a hidden door.

The master suite is in the nose of the main deck rather than higher up, for extra stability. It stretches from a full-beam cabin to a massive bathroom centred with a monolithic Corian bathtub (there’s a spa just aft of the cabin for even more serious pampering), to a wardrobe-cum-dressing room of spectacular scale and glamour, inspired by Chanel boutiques.

But while some spaces are grand in scale, others are decidedly intimate. Rather than a dining saloon, there are two art-filled “bistros” on board for cosy meals, and many other small dining areas elsewhere. The owner’s bridge deck office is also modestly proportioned, with a conference room next door for larger meetings.

In terms of interior style, the owner’s brief was for something revolutionary. “He didn’t want anything to be symmetrical, it had to be curvy or organic,” says Langton. “He wanted it to be very different. No wood, nothing traditional.”

From the furniture and fittings to walls and overheads, there is barely a straight line on this boat. That was no mean feat for Abeking & Rasmussen’s outfitter Rodiek, which, as well as building most of the yacht’s bespoke furniture in organic forms, produced undulating wall panels from high density CNC-milled foam. “Five or ten years ago this was only used to do models or moulds for the car industry. It is very expensive,” says Langton.

It is, however, perfect for creating curves. “For this boat we decided to use a lot of new materials, even for the base materials, because of the big curved ceiling spaces,” says Hilmar Westermeyer, COO of Rodiek, who had to buy a new CNC milling machine for the project. Rodiek works only for Abeking & Rasmussen (and vice versa) in a symbiotic relationship.

In terms of the interior styling, the ethos was love it or lose it — at least visually. “This door disappears when it is closed and becomes part of the wall,” says Langton in one of the forward VIPs, swinging it to the latch, where its undulations perfectly meet those on the wall. “You either make a door a feature, make it beautiful, or you make it disappear.” The same goes for handles: those on wardrobes are invisible, but ones used on cabin doors are gnarled and textural, incorporated into a cracked bronze plate “like desert clay”.

“Because we’ve not used any wood, basically the whole interior is a mixture of leather and lacquer, it’s really almost tailored.” Take the artfully stitched cream leather of window frames, or the iridescent shot silk that runs down the broad main deck corridor, printed with a bespoke cartographical motif.

A neutral palette is enriched with precious materials: sunset-toned onyx, vanilla marble, shagreen, shimmering leathers. There are glossy panels dripping with resin and acrylic by Alex Turco in the lobby, and panels of velvet mottled with gold, by Sabina Fay Braxton, above guest beds. Staircases are works of art; one with floating treads like turbine blades, another a leather and glass form that spirals up from the floor.

This interior — where, as Langton puts it, almost every surface has “richness and form” – melts into the deck spaces via visual tricks: organic patterns in the Esthec decking that continue in the interior carpets; or the bar that is half in the main saloon and half on the aft deck, a mirror image joining the two spaces.

The superyacht sundeck is the exterior equivalent of the upper saloon — a comfortable family lounge. This massive space, with sunshine yellow upholstery, runs from a shaded central area for dining, with a projector for movie nights, to an aft sunbathing area with sunpads (with a wedge shape to sit as well as lie) and another forward around a spa pool, set low against a glass windbreak for spectacular views.

This forward end is a cosy space like so many on board. It’s that understanding of usable, enjoyable spaces, of human scale, human comfort and passions that makes Aviva a truly grand design. Those 98 metres just help pack it all on board.

Liberty Of The Seas Review

Review of liberty of the seas.

The 2007-built Liberty of the Seas cruise ship is the second Freedom-class Royal Caribbean liner, with sisterships Freedom OTS and Independence OTS .

The vessel (IMO number 9330032) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 309436000) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is a US passenger shipping company, trademarked travel brand, and subsidiary owned by Royal Caribbean Group (RCG/shipowner). RCI was established in 1968 and currently has over 1/5 of the worldwide cruise market. RCI also has RCG's largest fleet by both vessel number and GT tonnage (ship sizes and capacities).

All RCI liners have names ending with "of the Seas".

Liberty Of The Seas cruise ship (Royal Caribbean)

The 4000-passenger ship Liberty OTS' first drydock was in 2011. During the refit, the boat gained new features (introduced on Oasis OTS ) including a large stage shows, Royal Nursery, an outdoor movie screen, a cupcake bakery. New technology know-how was placed in the form of interactive HDTVs and digital deck plan systems, located throughout the Liberty to help guests navigate by using LCD touch-screens for customized directions, ship factoids and real-time updates.

Liberty OTS also boasts all the Freedom-class favorites, including popular onshore brands like Johnny Rockets and Ben and Jerry's, cruising's only ice rink, a rock-climbing wall, the novel "Promenade" concept and Boleros Latin lounge.

At the beginning of 2016 Royal Caribbean's cruise ship, Liberty of the Seas has undergone an extensive drydock revitalization. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the new features to be constructed, such as the Splashaway Bay waterpark, The Perfect Storm water slides, new restaurants and bar dining options.

Decks and Cabins

Liberty Of The Seas staterooms (1839 total) include 122 Suites, 724 Balcony, 262 Oceanviews, 168 Promenade View, 563 Inside. Most cabins are sized 150-190 ft2 (14-18 m2). Most cabin balconies are sized 65 ft2 (6 m2). The largest is Vista Suite (1210 ft2 / 112 m2 plus 805 ft2 / 75 m2 terrace). Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 32.

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The 3-deck-high Dining Room has full seating capacity. Passengers can choose between assigned dining and Royal Caribbean's My Time Dining program, in which guests pick a preferred mealtime between 6 pm and 9:30 pm, but can change reservations daily. Those who opt for My Time Dining have to prepay gratuities. Each floor of the MDR is named after a Renaissance master - Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Botticelli - and a huge crystal chandelier towers over the restaurant. Meals are satisfactory and there is always "Chef's Signature Selection". The separate Vitality menu is offered for the calorie-conscious and equals the rest of the menu in size and taste (vegetarian options are sprinkled throughout). Standards like salmon, sirloin steak and chicken are also available.

Liberty Of The Seas Wiki

Liberty OTS is fleet's 2nd Freedom-Class liner, with sisterships Freedom  and  Independence . Liberty was built in 2007 by Aker Finnyards Shipyard (Turku, Finland). This shipyard was later acquired by STX Europe (a subsidiary of the South Korean multinational STX Corporation). Ship's godmother was Donnalea Madeley. She was elected from about 2500 female travel agents, who had shown fondness of social causes. Donnalea Madeley is from Ontario, and the first travel agent to win such a position (usually given to VIPs). The christening ceremony was held at PortMiami  on May 18, 2007.

The inaugural cruise (maiden voyage) was a 7-day Caribbean itinerary starting on May 19. Liberty OTS had some special pre-inaugural cruises before the liner arrived in Miami. The first was the Transatlantic crossing ( Southampton  to  NYC New ), the second - repositioning from NYC to Miami (visiting several US East Coast ports).

Like all newly refurbished RCI ships, Liberty offered the DreamWorks Experience (2011-2018). Liberty OTS is an "Art Nouveau'" decorated modern cruise liner. Passengers will be amazed by the mixing coloured light projections on broken or hanging canvasses created by the unique digital art celebrity Miguel Chevalier. All the rest is totally Royal Caribbean - the feature entertainment options with great shows, grand Vegas-style productions, the "ice-skating and rock-climbing", numerous themed bars and lounges, modern facilities to spend quality time on board.

Liberty OTS refurbishment 2016 review

During ship’s drydock 2016 refurbishment (January 10 - February 6), Royal Caribbean added a group of 3 waterslides on Deck 13 aft (near the Flowrider simulator). The Aqua Park (lido deck 11) has a new kids-only water playground area called “Splashaway Bay”.

Liberty OTS is the first Freedom-class RCI ship with waterslides. The first ever Royal Caribbean ship originally built with slides is  Harmony of the Seas  (launched 2016) with a total of 4 water slides.

The list of deck plan changes after the 2016 drydock refurbishment includes:

  • (On deck 2) 3 inside cabins were removed (numbers 2405, 2403, 2401).
  • (On deck 3) the Catacombs (218-seats Disco Nightclub, level 1) was replaced with 19 new interior cabins. Also here, 4 new interior cabins were added near the Art Gallery (starboard). Both lounges Bernini (portside) and Velasquez (starboard) were replaced with 10 new oceanview staterooms. Dining Room restaurant was renamed from Rembrandt to “Main Dining Room” (level 1).
  • (On deck 4) the Catacombs disco (level 2) was replaced by the Sabor Modern Mexican (restaurant). Also here, Dining Room restaurant was renamed from Michelangelo to “Main Dining Room” (level 2).
  • (On Promenade deck 5) the show lounge was renamed from “The Sphynx” to “Star Lounge”. Also here, the Champagne Bar (wine bar) was replaced by R-Bar. Dining Room restaurant was renamed from Botticelli to “Main Dining Room” (level 3). Cupcake Cupboard (bakery) was added.
  • (On deck 6) a new inside cabin was added forward (number 6137).
  • (On deck 7) 5 new inside cabins were added, 4 of which in the place of the Library (removed to deck 9).
  • (On deck 9) a new inside cabin was added forward (number 9237). Also here were added Library and Card Room, while the Concierge Club was removed.
  • (On Lido deck 11) the H2O Zone was replaced by the new Splashaway Bay (water park with slides). Also here, the Portofino restaurant was replaced by “Giovanni’s Table” (Italian restaurant).
  • (On Spa deck 12 forward) around the ShipShape Spa, new cabins were added in categories Q-Inside, Panoramic Oceanview (PF-Family Panoramic, P1-Larger, P2-Panoramic) and E2-Spa Balcony.
  • (On deck 13) Liberty Dunes (9-hole mini golf course with Golf Simulator) was replaced with the Perfect Storm waterslides (Cyclone, Typhoon). Also here, the Wipe Out! (20-seats burger bar) was replaced with the “Tidal Wave” slide (Boomerang-type). While the waterslide structure was ready after the ship’s refurbishment, its opening was re-scheduled for June 2016 due to some initial design flaws discovered after the slide’s installation. The design was altered by adding padding for the impact areas of the slide.
  • (On deck 14) both portside multipurpose rooms – Cloud Nine (24-seats) and Seven Hearts (33-seats) were replaced with Suite Lounge.
  • Internet speed was upgraded (to Voom).

During drydock 2016, a total of 89 new cruise cabins were added. Among those, 26 are Panoramic ocean views (with floor-ceiling windows facing forward) on deck 12.

Liberty Of The Seas refurbishment 2011 review

The list of deckplan changes after drydock 2011 included:

  • All cruise accommodations were renovated.
  • “DreamWorks Experience” (Walt Disney themed entertainment program) was implemented.
  • The Royal Caribbean’s signature Nursery was added on deck 12.
  • On Lido Deck 11 (in the main pool area) a huge movie screen (outdoor theatre) was installed.
  • Vintages (wine bar) was upgraded.
  • BRITTO Art Gallery was added on deck 3.

The Theatre Lounge's programming was upgraded with complimentary DreamWorks 3D movies and a new Broadway musical production (“Saturday Night Fever”).

The phenomenon, also known as “atypical drowning,” means they had no water in their lungs, tracheas or stomachs, said a spokesperson for the lawyer of the captain of the Bayesian, which went down off the coast of the Sicilian port of Porticello on Aug. 19.

The cause of death of the first four victims suggests that they had found an air bubble in the cabin in which five of the victims’ bodies were discovered, and had consumed all the oxygen before the air pocket turned toxic due to carbon dioxide, according to local media reports.

The autopsies of American lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo, Morgan Stanley banker Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Anne Elizabeth Judith Bloomer were carried out on Wednesday at the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Palermo Polyclinic hospital, officials said.

Autopsies on British tech titan Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter are expected to be carried out on Friday.

No date has been set yet for the autopsy of Recaldo Thomas, the ship’s onboard chef – due to the difficulty reaching his family in Antigua.

All seven victims were scanned for injuries last Saturday, which found none had suffered broken bones or other physical injuries that might have contributed to their deaths.

The prosecutor investigating the case first suggested earlier in August the idea that the victims had been searching for an air pocket.

The autopsies are part of the criminal investigation into the ship’s captain James Cutfield, the ship’s machine engineer Tim Parker Eaton and sailor Matthew Griffith, who was on watch the night of the accident. None of the men is in Italy.

They are being investigated for “multiple manslaughter” and for causing a shipwreck, but authorities say this doesn’t mean they will be charged with any crimes. They were allowed to leave the country by the prosecutor in charge of the investigation.

Sicily Yacht Recovery

The 184-foot yacht sank within 16 minutes of being struck by a downburst or tornado on the early morning of Aug. 19. The ship will have to be raised for the investigation and to ensure that the 18,000 liters of fuel onboard do not leak into the sea around the port of Porticello near Palermo.

Bids have been sent out for the salvage, which will be paid for by the company of Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, which owns the yacht.

Toxicology results on the seven victims are expected in the coming days. No alcohol or drug tests were carried out on any of the crew members, the prosecutor said in a press conference after all the victims’ bodies had been recovered.

Lynch and his business partner Sushovan Hussain, who died after being struck by a car in London the day the Bayesian sank, had been acquitted of fraud charges in a U.S. court in June 2024. The charges were related to the sale of their company Autonomy to Hewlett Packard, which has said it will not drop its civil lawsuit for $4 billion in damages now being heard in a U.K. court.

Italian firefighter divers bring ashore in a plastic bag the body of one of the victims of a shipwreck, in Porticello, Sicily, southern Italy, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024.

Guide to the Dodecanese Islands

A glorious chain of islands strewn along the Aegean Sea

Ripe with an abundance of breathtaking scenery, the Dodecanese Islands boast an eclectic mix of architectural heritage and local traditions. From bustling cosmopolitan cities to picturesque fishing villages these islands are awash with opportunities for guests to remain as busy or as relaxed as desired. A beautiful cluster of islands, they make for idyllic island hopping opportunities as each is packed with diversity and adventure. With over half of the islands uninhabited there are many mountains, meadows and beaches to explore on a Mediterranean yacht charter here.

Saturated in hot Aegean sun all year round, the Dodecanese Islands are a serene, yet chic collection of island’s that are rapidly growing in popularity. One of the main advantages of a yacht charter in the Dodecanese is that you can visit smaller islets which are off the main tourist routes.

There are 18 main islands with the biggest and the best being Rhodes, Kos, Patmos and Symi.

Rhodes By far the favourite within in this superb archipelago, Rhodes is the largest and most developed of the Dodecanese Islands. Home to an indulgent way of life and increasingly popular amongst glamorous vacationers, Rhodes is laced with ancient towns and glittering stretches of beautiful shorelines. Anthony Quinn Bay is a hotspot for yachting enthusiasts where the turquoise water shimmers in a cove of crimson rock. The quaint village of Lindos makes for an idyllic hideaway, meander alongside the Rhodian style Tudor mansions and gaze in awe at ancient ruins and picture perfect views of the sea.

Kos With dramatic shorelines and sugar-white sandy beaches, Kos is an island of intense natural beauty and utmost serenity. Kos has remained its original charm despite being popular amongst tourists and boasts a tropical ambiance. This picture-perfect island grows an abundance of produce from grapes, almonds, figs and olives and is an idyllic island for those looking to taste the cosmopolitan lifestyle and experience the vibrant nightlife.

Patmos The glorious island of Patmos is as picturesque as can be. The bustling capital city of Chora boasts stunning architecture, magnificent beaches and remarkable landscape views making for a tangible serenity. This spiritual island exudes an astounding sense of harmony for that ‘get away from it all’ feel.

Symi Stretching over 84 kilometres, the coastline of Symi is sublime. Perfect for sailing, this tranquil island is brimmed with secluded coves and rocky bays, some of which are only accessible by boat. Neoclassical houses decorated in superb pastel shades pack the towns of this miniature island, and its enigmatic red roof tiles add to the lovely ambience. There are many opportunities to secure some unique crafts or handmade furniture with many of the locals skilled in wood carving. With a handful of chic restaurants and elegant bars Simi makes for an exciting nightlife.
