Cruises start from Chania harbour but upon request the ports of Kolymbari, Kissamos or Souda can be used instead.

Prices depend on chosen boat, please refer to the price table above . half-day cruises last 5 hours and all day about 8 to 10 hours. cruises lasting under 3 hours can be made by arrangement., all prices mentioned are per boat and do not include fuel unless indicated. an exact fuel cost estimate will be provided a day or two before embarkation as weather conditions have to be evaluated as well. fuel estimates are calculated using data from yamaha fuel management systems installed on our boats..

Skipper, drinking water and soft drinks, swimming accessories . Meals can be provided on request, ranging from sandwiches to traditional snacks (prices from €2 to €10 per person).

Insurance, safety & liabilities.

All vessels are equiped with the legally required safety equipment and are fitted with canopies.

In case the damage incurred is higher than the insurance coverage and the person responsible for the damage is the charterer or the captain of the boat, then the charterer or captain will be liable for the exceeding cost with his personal belongings.

It is illegal to approach organized public beaches at a distance closer than 500 meters; maps are provided during the mandatory briefing with off-limit boundaries.

It is illegal for the vessel's operator to consume alcohol or other intoxicants, the hirer is liable for any fines incurred by such activities.

EU-issued license requirements for bareboat rental

According to Greek maritime law the license must be translated to Greek by an authoritative translator. If desired, Sea Sun Boats can arrange for this for an additional cost of 40 euros - the process takes from 1 to 4 working days.

Orientation

Orientation for proper operation of the vessel and information on recommended itineraries are provided during the mandatory 45 minute briefing (please be on time) which can be conducted in English or French. At least one fully-charged smartphone is required for the navigation app provided.

Note: We reserve the right to withhold rental of a vessel if adequate skill is not displayed during orientation.

As per regulations, a valid passport or ID card is required to hire a vessel - driver's license or credit card is not accepted as a form of identification.

All bookings can be done either via phone, internet or in person. Confirmation is sent a day before rental after consulting local weather reports.

When making a booking please specify the number and ages of persons and if you have any previous experience with boats.

It would be preferable to meet in person a day before the embarkation date for briefined and orientation.

Please confirm your booking 3 days in advance.

For bare-boat rentals of boats that do not require a license only full day bookings can be made in advance, bookings for half-day rental can only be made the same day or the day before disembarking depending on availability.

Note: We reserve the right to cancel a booking even up to the last minute if weather conditions are not safe. Weather conditions are usually confirmed one day before the trip.

Rent a boat with or without a skipper

Many of our boat charters in Chania come with the option of sailing with a skipper and/or crew. Although this may come at an extra cost, having a skipper on board can, no doubt, provide you with an even more enjoyable experience! Your skipper can adapt the sailing route so that your voyage best suits the desires of you and the rest of your party.

Additionally, setting sail with a skipper will make your voyage even more comfortable! The skipper will take care of all the technical aspects of sailing, so all you need to do is sit back and relax.

If you would like to take charge of your boat charter in Chania, then bareboat charters are the way to go. Enjoy a bareboat charter if you have a license and set sail at your own pace. If you decide to venture into the months just before and after the high season, like May and September, temperatures tend to be slightly cooler, ranging from the low 70s°F to upper 70s°F but still pleasant!

An amazing day with Nikos who was a great skipper and hosted us on his beautiful boat. Highlight of the day was letting us sail the boat ourselves under his instructions with no use of the motor boat. An unforgettable experience!

This was our first time traveling to Crete and we had a great time on the water with both captains! The boat was beautiful and they provided drinks and a delicious lunch with snacks. If you’re thinking about booking with Antonis, you should! You won’t regret it!

Highly recommend! We honestly had the best day and cannot recommend this trip enough! From the moment we met Chrisoyla and his son (the host) we felt at ease and were taken to the most beautiful private beaches. Our lunch was a homemade authentic Cretan meal and it was delicious! The host took us on a snorkel tour through a cave and showed us around the coves. Overall, the best trip we’ve taken in our two weeks in Greece and will recommend to any friends visiting Crete.

I can't recommend Nikos highly enough! Me and my friend had a private sailing with Nikos and alex, they promised a memorable experience and it they delivered it beyond more than we expected! We had a great homemade lunch too which was actually a bonus, plus some wine and cherries as snack. Nikos truly loves his job and we will make sure to book another sailing with them when we return in Chania. He is very easy to talk to and we felts really comfortable given the fact the me and my friend are both young adult women, we didn't feel any issues at all! Thank you Nikos for the wonderful experience and we wish you and Alex all the success and happiness you deserve!!

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen : Don’t forget to add biodegradable sunscreen to your Mexico packing list ! Regular sunscreen is prohibited on most snorkeling tours, so you’ll need to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for sun protection. I recommend Sun Bum Sunscreen , which is reef-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free.

Charter yacht of the week: the 72m full-volume yacht packed with quiet spaces

Each week, we place a spotlight on the world’s finest superyachts for charter . This week, BOAT looks at the 72.1-metre Stella Maris , which was delivered in 2013. Her striking profile and masculine design have always provoked interest in the industry, yet her charter potential remains second to none…

She’s more than 10 years old, yet the 72.1-metre VSY superyacht is still a definite head-turner with her beefy hull and cool gun-metal colour scheme. Delivered in 2013, she was an almighty achievement for the relatively young shipyard at the time, not just in design, but technologically too. Today, she remains a fabulous fleet member and a versatile yacht for charter with plenty of tricks up her sleeve.

Stella Maris has been credited for her technologically advanced systems that reduce environmental impact, including the sewage treatment plant, double soot scrubbers on all engines and advanced solutions such as the dynamic positioning system to avoid anchor damage to the seabed.

The yacht’s exteriors were penned by Espen Øino, who set out to create exteriors that would strike a “perfect balance between form and function, innovation and technology, comfort and aesthetics.” Her hull colour (also carefully selected to follow this set of criteria) is a DuPont Metallic Grey . It's beautiful from the outside, but it all makes sense when you step on board.

The yacht's interior is certainly contemporary but filled with interesting features such as blue marble bathrooms, twin hot tubs, and an enclosed garden that extends over two decks. The interior was styled by Michela Reverberi and has a calm and neutral colour palette with interesting accents that you don’t see too often across the charter market.

Stepping on board, you’ll notice the unusual arrangement first, followed by the huge windows and then the interesting use of colour that infuses the space. Flecks of green work their way into the hand-tufted rugs and wall coverings, a nod to the impressive glass-covered vertical garden that spans over two decks. The jungle-like vertical garden also functions by filling up a vibration-laden space to create a calming atmosphere. This is one of two aft saloons, both of which are surrounded by glass.

Stella Maris has a volume of 2,114GT and together with Laurent Giles Naval Architects , Øino, the owner and the build team were determined to use every bit of it. On the charter market, this is a great benefit with huge amounts of space for families, friends, or corporate charters. Free from clutter, the spaces on board feel light and open, which was the intention with glass tables, so they wouldn’t obstruct the feeling on board.

Central in the yacht is an elegant glass lift wrapped by a wide staircase. It’s a little different from your standard superyacht lift too, with no car that goes up and down. Instead, it has a platform that slides up and down in a glass tube.

Life on board Stella Maris

Accommodation on board is for 12 with the main deck forward given over to the guest cabins. This includes four doubles and two twins with an almost identical layout – another good charter asset, eliminating any potential arguments on cabin choice.

Located above the bridge is the owner’s deck, which opens into a lobby with an office before a central dressing room. An Ottoman is flanked by two stylish Brazilian blue marble bathrooms port and starboard before the bed, forward which is set before a semicircle of floor-to-ceiling windows. The principal charter guest also has access to a private deck.

To ensure a relaxing atmosphere on board, VSY had a specific noise target in mind: silence, which was quantified as 46 decibels at 15.5 knots in sea state 2. Because glass can amplify the resonance of the engines, VSY contracted a US-based acoustic expert to make this happen.

Guests can access a menu of services and information from anywhere aboard. Tap the screen and it’ll show the yacht’s route and when she plans to drop anchor. Also, the crew can let guests know when the pool will be filled, heated and ready, when massage openings are and even if guests would like breakfast delivered to their cabin.

Wellness on board was a big focus in the initial brief and came to fruition in the form of two spa pools, a sauna, a hammam, a dedicated massage room and a gym all within the lower deck beach club.
