I was standing by the valet station yesterday afternoon. A member walks up and is upset because a vehicle, actually 2, are parked where they should not be (no lines), and his vehicle is blocked. Two valets move the vehicles, and the customer drives away, having been delayed for about 10 minutes. The valet supervisor and a valet response is, "he'll get over it!"

I was invited by a member to come here for my birthday lunch. I was so pleased there was plenty of parking and it was a warm and welcoming lobby filled with pictures and memorabilia. It was a sunny day and and the view of the sailboats and boats docked made for a lovely atmosphere. We had a delicious Salmon salad and some wonderfull rolls with butter. The plate was decorated with grapefruit, mandarin oranges and tomatoes. It was a very special lunch with good service. It was perfect all around

I came here for a Holiday Party b'ness event on a Sat night. BCYC is located at the end of Bayside (off PCH) in Newport Beach. We started w/ crab stuffed mushroom caps, Italian meat & cheese on skewers and mini beef wellingtons. In addition, there was crudite. All of the items were very good, and a good way to whet your palate during cocktail hour: 4 Stars. Unfortunately, dinner was not so great. First of all, the salad was garden variety: 3 Stars. Secondly, the entrees were under seasoned and lukewarm. I had the seabass and it needed S & P. Others had the filet, and they had similar comments: 2 Stars. Lastly, the tiramisu rescued the rest of the meal. The cocoa flavor was subtle, and the portion was large: 4 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its very nice is the dining room. There is room for a band, and the view of the bay is beautiful: 5 Stars. Likewise, the staff is super nice and attentive. An associate and I brought our own wine, and they opened the bottles without a corkage fee: 5 Stars. BCYC is a great location for a business event. The view is beautiful, and the service is excellent. However, like most venues, expect to receive a "rubber chicken" kind of dinner.

Our Yacht Club recently had an event there on Prime Rib night, the food was fantastic, and all of the staff were so welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend BCYC if you have reciprocity. The view from the dining room was amazing and we saw all kinds of different boats going by as we ate dinner and watched the sunset.

This review is for Bruce and the event staff. We hosted our client appreciation event with 60 guests for a plated dinner and everything was fabulous. They worked with me on the menu, the room layout and the timing. The food was amazing (we had sea bass, steak filet and a vegan option), the service was sharp and on point and all my clients were absolutely thrilled. We will absolutely be using this venue again.

I love being a member here! Our kid is a racer in their program (has been since he was 6; now he's 11). The club goes by "The friendliest club in the bay." My mom is on the Los Commodores crew, where they dedicate time and effort fundraising for Camp Pendleton families (they got the Hope award from the White House a few years ago for raising over 100k). They help bring home the marines from afar, to spend the holidays with the families. I go there every Wednesday for lunch (I love their burger and fries!). My wife is also really involved in doing activities there. It's well worth the membership fees!

This yacht club is located in Newport Beach. It boasts that this year all the officers of the club are women! No surprise since this club is very supportive of women sailors. It hosted the nationally attended annual Women's Sailing Convention yesterday, which is always a LOT of fun and very well done by Gail Hines for the past 30 years! There are courses on every topic pertaining to sailing and sailors life, and afternoon on-the-water workshops for every level of sailor or sailor enthusiast. It is ALL ages. This year's guest speaker was a young woman who sailed on the Sail Like a Girl sailboat that won the sailing race to Alaska! She shared her slides, video clips and experience. They beat the other boats and donated three quarters of their winnings to Breast Cancer Research. The staff, and the food at the yacht club are great. They also have a wonderful inside bar, and various seating areas outside, and great dining room and cuisine. Stop by and check it out.

At BCYC, our members are justifiably proud of our reputation as the 'Friendliest Club on the Bay'. We are equally proud of our beautiful facility in Newport Harbor which we enjoy equity membership in the land, clubhouse and marina. Our superb cuisine and service is the envy of the local yachting community. Members can choose a more intimate meal in the main dining room or lively conversation over fine food and spirits in The Columbia Room - both feature beautiful bay views and welcoming fireplaces. Also available are private banquet rooms and a spacious outdoor deck for cocktails and dining. BCYC is a family oriented club with something for everyone, on land or on the water.

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club hosts Bogart Race series

bahia corinthian yacht club newport beach

Competitors will race from Orange County to Avalon, then back to Newport Beach, March 21-22.

NEWPORT BEACH—Sailors with PHRF-rated vessels are invited to compete in the 2020 Bogart Race, which is hosted by Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. The Bogart Race comes to Newport Beach on March 21 and 22.

The first day of racing will start in the vicinity of the Santa Ana River Jetty and finish at the Avalon Casino on Catalina Island. Day two of racing will start off Avalon Casino, with competitors racing toward the finish line at Balboa Pier in Newport Beach.

“Boats will be placed into classes based on their Area D Random Leg Rating,” the Notice of Race stated. “Race Committee may assign a boat to a class it deems appropriate.”

First warning signal will be given at 10:55 a.m. on both days.

The entry fee for the Bogart Race is $50. Sailing instructions will be available at the Bahia Corinthian YC office one week prior to the first race. Changes to the schedule of races will be posted on the Race Bulletin Board at Bahia Corinthian YC (and online at www.bcyc.org) at 7 p.m., the day before the race.

“Scoring for the Bogart Race Overall (class and overall) will be based on the sum of each Final Corrected Time,” the Notice of Race stated. “There are no throw-outs. A boat that did not start, did not finish, was disqualified or retired, shall be scored points for the finished place one more than the number of starters for the race.”

Take home trophies will be awarded after each race (Santa Ana River Jetty to Avalon Casino and Avalon Casino to Newport Beach). Best Overall awards will be handed out after the last race (March 22).

Contact the Bahia Corinthian YC race administrator at 949-644-9530 for more information about the two-day regatta. Bahia Corinthian YC is located at 1601 Bayside Drive in Corona Del Mar.

The Bogart Race, named after actor Humphrey Bogart, is Bahia Corinthian YC’s longest-running race. Sailors race to Avalon, spend the night there, and return to Newport Beach the following day. The race traces its roots to 1950, when Bogart competed in a sailing event to Avalon. He would win that race aboard his boat, Santana . Bahia Corinthian YC, which formed in 1958, would eventually establish and organize the Bogart Race Series, in honor of the actor’s Avalon race.

Corinthian Yacht Club Gears Up for a Title Defense at the 2024 Resolute Cup

' src=

The Corinthian Yacht Club (Marblehead, Mass.) is set to defend its title at the upcoming Resolute Cup on Narragansett Bay, and they are returning with the same team that clinched the championship in 2022. With the experience of winning under their belts, skipper Wade Waddell and his crew are prepared for another strong showing at this prestigious event.

“The competition is intense, the racing is tight, and winning is hard, which is what keeps us coming back,” says Waddell. “After taking the title in 2022 and finishing as the runner-up at the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, we knew we had to return. Our team—Doug Sabin, Duncan Swain, and Miranda Bakos—has developed a strong bond and a high level of trust, which is crucial when the stakes are high.”

Waddell is no stranger to the fierce rivalry with the San Diego Yacht Club (SDYC), having finished ahead of them in the 2022 Resolute Cup before placing second to SDYC at the 2023 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup.

“SDYC has put together a younger team this year, but I’m sure they will still be a formidable opponent,” Waddell remarks. “A lot of the sailors from SDYC are either friends or former college teammates, which adds a fun dynamic to the competition. It was thrilling to go 1-2 with them in both the Resolute Cup and the Invitational Cup, albeit in different orders.”

Since its inception in 2010, the Resolute Cup has served as the Corinthian Championship for U.S. yacht clubs and remains the sole guaranteed pathway for an American club to earn a spot in the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, considered the most prestigious international competition in Corinthian sailing. The seventh edition of the biennial event, which was not held in 2020, is scheduled for September 9 to 14 at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I. This year, the event will feature the Club’s fleet of Sonars, with standardized equipment and on-the-water umpiring to ensure a fair competition.

Despite having already secured a berth in the 2025 Invitational Cup, San Diego Yacht Club isn’t resting on its laurels. Jack Egan, stepping in as the club’s Resolute Cup skipper, is determined to push his team to their limits.

“In some ways, the pressure is off, but none of us has a competitive ‘off’ switch,” says Egan. “Tyler Sinks, the previous skipper, has shared his insights, and we’re ready to lean on SDYC’s experience and the diverse skills each of us brings.”

Adam Roberts, who serves as the tactician for SDYC, echoes Egan’s sentiments about the team’s depth and potential.

“We have a boat stacked with talent, each sailor bringing something unique to the table,” Roberts explains. “Winning the Resolute Cup demands the same meticulous attention to detail as the Invitational Cup. It’s my job to harness our strengths and ensure we perform at our best in every aspect of this event.”

Meanwhile, Eastern Yacht Club, led by Clinton Hayes, is also eyeing a spot on the podium. After finishing fourth in 2022, Hayes believes their experience with the Sonar will be a key advantage.

“High-level racing in evenly matched boats is the most fun you can have on the water,” Hayes notes. “Eastern has always excelled in the Sonar, and we believe we can compete with the best.”

Hannah Lynn, also part of the Eastern team, highlights the importance of familiarity and consistency.

“We’ve been racing together for a decade, mostly in Sonars,” Lynn says. “Returning with the same crew gives us a strong foundation to build on, especially now that we’re more comfortable with the boat.”

Southern Yacht Club, a past champion of both the Resolute Cup and Invitational Cup, is also in the mix. With Andy Lovell, a seasoned sailor with Olympic trials experience, at the helm, they are eager to reclaim their former glory.

“We need to qualify for the Invitational Cup, and this is a big deal for us,” says Lovell. “We’re focused on doing well in every race and not letting frustration get the better of us.”

Racing for the Resolute Cup kicks off on September 11, with the fleet being halved for three final double-point races on September 14. The action unfolds on Narragansett Bay, with races starting each day at 10:30 a.m. and continuing through the afternoon, weather permitting.
