Marina Berthing Information

At Marina di Valletta we offer four types of Berthing for yachts from 10 to 50+ metre Superyachts.

Transit Berths are available on a daily or monthly rate. Winter / Summer from 1 Oct > 31 May and 1 Jun > 30 Sept. Annual Contract berthing from 1st June to 31st May. The Marina also offers a limited number of 10/20 year leases at advantageous, long-term conditions.

Transit Berth

Valletta, The Fortress City, Citta' Umilissima, "a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen" is Malta's capital city: a living, working city, the administrative and commercial heart of the Islands. Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour.

Concierge service is available in collaboration with yacht services agencies. Malta has award-winning suppliers and agents for most marine manufacturers, as well as a shipyard and a full range of facilities for all yacht and superyacht refit, repair and maintenance work. These include:

• Refit and repairs for steel, GRP and wood

Located across the Harbour is Palumbo, the nearby superyacht shipyard that has the capacity to service, maintain, refit and repair some of the largest ships afloat. It includes a 160 metre long graving dock and a 140 metre covered dock, all provided with shore services, workshops, storage facilities and offices for the administration and crew.

Getting to your Home Port

Centrally located in the Mediterranean, the island of Malta is easily accessible by air and sea. With everything on the island no more than 30 minutes away, and surrounded by beautiful coastline and sea, it is apparent why Malta is known as being a unique destination, set within a beautiful archipelago.

By Air – Grand Harbour Marina is only 15 minutes from Malta International Airport – with direct flights to most major European cities. There are also exclusive facilities for chartered and private jets.

By Sea – The marina is accessible day or night in all weather conditions and our Marina team provides 24-hour berthing assistance.

On approach, the breakwater with St Elmo lighthouse located at its eastern end is easy to identify. Leave this to starboard, and the short breakwater off Fort Ricasoli to port. Fort St Angelo is then rounded to port to enter the final approach channel, which is marked with small red and green buoys. Call us on VHF channel 13 for berthing instructions.

Yachts should also contact Valletta Port Control on channel 12 when 12 miles out and may be asked to call again one mile from the entrance, depending on the movement of commercial traffic within the harbour.

Regulations

Visitors arriving from other countries within the European Union are required to complete the form supplied by the Capitanerie, with vessel registration details and a crew list.

Yachts arriving from outside the EU need to clear through Malta’s Customs and Immigration. Officials will usually visit the yacht at Grand Harbour Marina to complete this.

Any passengers or crew leaving the yacht in Malta and departing by other means are required to have their passport stamped by Immigration on arrival.

Grand Harbour Marina

The mouth of the Grand Harbour faces the north east and is bounded to the north by Saint Elmo Point and further sheltered by an isolated breakwater and is bounded to the south by Ricasoli Point. Its north west shore is formed by the Sciberras peninsula, which is mainly sheltered by the city of Valletta and its suburb Floriana. This peninsula also divides Grand Harbour from a second parallel natural harbour, Marsamxett Harbour. Lastly, the southeastern shore of the harbour is formed by a number of inlets and headlands, which are covered by Kalkara and the Three Cities: Cospicua, Vittoriosa, and Senglea.

This Marina is situated in Vittoriosa, one of the creeks in the Grand Harbour, surrounded by the Baroque architecture and defensive walls of the capital city of Valletta and the Three Cities.

Located on Vittoriosa Waterfront, The Grand Harbour Marina can host yachts from 8m to 25m in serviced berths. Boatcare Trading Ltd can provide you with any service you may require during your stay in this privately-run marina.

The Marina is situated in Vittoriosa, one of the historic Three Cities of Malta.

It is a world-class luxury marina that enjoys an enchanting scenic background of Malta’s capital city of Valletta – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

With more than 500 years of fishing and boating tradition, Vittoriosa characterises modern Malta’s lifestyle, where historic waterfront buildings have been embellished to host high-class restaurants and bars, as well as the internationally renowned Casino di Venezia on the quayside. Malta’s ideal location in the heart of the Mediterranean makes it perfect for cruising the Mediterranean.

This Marina is ideal as a home port or winter stop-over. We offer berths for vessels up to 135m LOA alongside (100m stern-to).

Meet the team.

Our dedicated and knowledgeable Grand Harbour Marina team is helmed by Gordon Vassallo and ably supported by Ian Cochrane for marina operations.

The Capitanerie is manned by Jacqueline Mangion, Zsanett Gyorffy and Daniela Hanzlova with all crew relations. The quays and pontoons are patrolled by our senior berthing master Kevin Valentine and his team along with the technical and maintenance department run by Edward Sammut and Ronald Attard.

Technical Services

Malta has suppliers and agents for most marine manufacturers, as well as a shipyard and a full range of facilities for all yacht and superyacht refit, repair and maintenance work. These include:

• Electrical and electronics specialists
• Marine engine and hydraulic specialists
• Engineering, welding and machine shops
• Refit and repairs for steel, GRP and wood
• Travel lift and covered hard standing (up to 140m LOA)
• Life raft and inflatable service and repair

Our Marina team in Grand Harbour can provide contact details and are on hand to help with any owner or skipper’s specialist requirements.

The nearby superyacht shipyard has the capacity to service, maintain, refit and repair some of the largest ships afloat. It includes a 160m long graving dock and a 140m covered dock, all provided with shore services, workshops, storage facilities and offices for the administration and crew.

Getting Here

By Air – Grand Harbour Marina is only 15 minutes from Malta International Airport – with direct flights to most major European cities. There are also facilities for chartered and private jets.

By Sea – The marina is accessible day or night in all weather conditions and our team provides 24-hour berthing assistance.

On approach, the breakwater with St Elmo lighthouse located at its eastern end is easy to identify. Leave this to starboard, and the short breakwater off Fort Ricasoli to port. Fort St Angelo is then rounded to port to enter the final approach channel, which is marked with small red and green buoys. Call us on VHF channel 13 for berthing instructions.

Yachts should also contact Valletta Port Control on channel 12 when 12 miles out, and may be asked to call again one mile from the entrance, depending on the movement of commercial traffic within the harbour.

Regulations – Visitors arriving from other countries within the European Union are required to complete the form supplied by the Capitainerie, with vessel registration details and a crew list.

Yachts arriving from outside the EU need to clear through Malta’s Customs and Immigration. Officials will usually visit the yacht at Grand Harbour Marina to complete this.

Any passengers or crew leaving the yacht in Malta and departing by other means are required to have their passport stamped by Immigration on arrival.

Evening Cruises

Enjoy a relaxing evening cruise with a group of friends or family on-board one of our sailing yachts. Setting sail from the scenic Valletta Grand Harbour heading east to enjoy sunset views in the west. Guests may enjoy a selection of cold cuts, cheese, dips and other nibbles served with wine, water and soft drinks throughout the evening. There is time for a dip in the sea if you wish. In addition to this we have optional menus available, such as our BBQ menu and our Buffet Menu . To round up the evening we tour the Grand Harbour and 3 Cities, which are all lit up by night providing  a superb finale to the evening cruise.
