You do not need boat insurance when renting with Boatsetter. Coverage is provided under the Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy, which is underwritten by GEICO Marine Insurance Company. The policy was written from the ground up as a stand-alone recreational boat rental insurance policy covering the period of time that the boat is being rented and is available for all non-commercially insured boats.

Does Boatsetter screen renters?

Yes. We use a system called Cognito to ensure that payment information matches the renter's identity. We also require renters taking out a captained boat to be at least 18 years old and on a bareboat to be at least 25 years old.

Is listing my boat on Boatsetter free?

Yes! Listing a boat is completely free. We only take a commission when your boat is rented. We only make money when you do!

What if I'm not comfortable having a renter drive my boat?

If you are not comfortable having a renter drive your boat, we have an expansive network of licensed and experienced captains. Once your boat is listed, you can filter through our network of captains and favorite captains in your area that you would like to operate your boat.

To operate a personal watercraft in NY, you must be at least 14 years old.

According to boaterexam.com if you were born on or after May 1, 1996, you are required to pass a state-approved course and obtain a boating safety certificate to operate a motorboat. Everyone in NY must complete a Boating Safety Education Course in order to operate a PWC on NYS waters. The boating safety certificate must also be kept with you when you’re operating a boat.

You need to complete an accredited boating safety education course to rent and operate a boat in New York.

You must wear a lifejacket or PFD when riding a jet ski in New York . You also much complete a boating safety course and receive a certificate of successful completion and have that with you at all times when operating watercraft in New York.

All people on a kayak must wear a lifejacket at all times from November 1st-May 1st, and all kayaks must have at least 1 PFD per person onboard at all times, regardless of the time of year. Kids 12 and under must always have a lifejacket on while on a kayak.

Raised in Manhattan by his Paris born Father, and Spanish mother. His passion for sailboats began as a child. His father shared his love of sailing by making model sailboats and together they "sailed" them in the 72nd Street Central Park pond. Captain David learned how to sail at the age of 16 on the south shore of Long Island. David started Tribeca Sailing in 2013 to share his passion for sailing with the world. He fills his sails with facts about New York City, stories about personal experiences, and expert sailing techniques. In short, Captain David wants you to enjoy your boat tour and sail. He is a United States Coast Guard Licensed Master.

Captain Clark joined Tribeca Sailing’s team this year and has quickly become a valued member.  Captain Clark has an extensive sail training record and a history as a video producer. He has an extreme passion for sailing and loves to share that passion with our guests. He is a United States Coast Guard Licensed Master.

With a sailing resume too long to post, it is fair to say, “What hasn’t Captain Matt done!”.  From offshore experience to captaining large schooners, he has done it all. Imagine Yacht Charters offers a wide variety of trips starting from our home base in Jersey City, up through the NYC Harbor and into the Long Island Sound. We have trips for those seeking adventure, relaxation, sightseeing and everything in between. Our yacht accommodates up to 6 passengers and charters are between 2 – 8 hours. We offer completely private charters, not a crowded boat. The entire ship is yours for the duration of your charter for all of your yachting and water enjoyment. Each yacht charter rental includes light refreshments and soft drinks; you’re free to BYOB, music and food with access to all of our 5-star amenities.

Please Note: There are no cancellations due to rain. Our luxury yacht is equipped with a full hard top in order to maintain your utmost comfort on trips with light to moderate rain. It is at the Captain’s discretion to cancel trips due to inclement weather.

Thankfully, in New York City, things are a little different. Full-day charters can range from $5,000 to $60,000 – although the higher price points typically cater to large groups of 300 guests plus. it's best to decide beforehand what kind of party you’re throwing and how many guests you’d like to accommodate to ensure you get the best deal.

What do you need to rent a boat in NYC?

To rent a boat in NYC, you’ll need to be over 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and have a credit card (in most cases). In some circumstances, you’ll also need a Boating Safety Certificate, but it’s best to check in with your boat rental company in advance to find out exactly what they need from you. Alternatively, you won’t need any sailing qualifications if you charter a private yacht as the captain will be in charge – just have the cash ready.

Does a crew come with a boat rental in NYC?

No, a crew doesn’t come with a boat rental in NYC. If a boat is offered bareboat, this means that you’ll be the skipper for the duration of the trip and there will be no captain onboard.
