Black myth: wukong - 10 best spirits, 8 best single-player games with heavy grinding.

Video games have come a long way since the early arcade days. Battle armies, explore unimaginable landscapes, and delve into worlds of characters that are becoming more immersive than ever.

However, a game that lets you traverse the open seas from the deck of your ship is a marvel in and of itself. Whether you're playing as a fearsome pirate or merely trying to survive a sea storm through the skin of your teeth, there are plenty of games that allow you to sail your ship while experiencing a one-of-a-kind adventure.

Updated July 7, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: Looking for even more ship sailing games? We've added a few more entries to our list. Additionally, we've removed a few that don't quite hit like they used to.

17 Sea Of Thieves

Sea of Thieves offers you the ideal opportunity to be a pirate and live a pirate's life in this open-world, multiplayer, action-adventure game. You can sail the open seas with your crew and engage in naval combat with hostile ships manned by fellow players. Get the best weapons and conquer the notoriously difficult Skeleton Forts to win a Stronghold Key for some spectacular treasure.

The Tall Tales expansion pack and an unforgettable Pirates of the Caribbean crossover make this game stand out even more than it already does - and of course, collecting as much booty as you can is par for the course when you're a pirate.

16 Sid Meier's Pirates!

Sid Meier's Pirates! first launched in 2004 by Firaxis Games, who also brought us the Civilization franchise. In Pirates!, you have the freedom to sail the high seas, explore, and participate in pirate hijinks.

While you won't have the most ship customization options, you will spend most of your time sailing among the Caribbean Islands. Although the game is quite old, it's worth the nostalgic and cozy gaming experience.

15 Assassin's Creed Odyssey

The Assassin's Creed series has come a long way from Assassin's Creed 3, the first game in the series where it allows you to sail your own ship. The subsequent games were a gradual improvement to the sailing and naval combat mechanics, with it being the main focus of Assassin's Creed 4 - but it truly came into fruition in Assassin's Creed Odyssey .

With hundreds of islands to explore in the Greek isles and enemy ships to defeat, the game lets you sail the beautiful, turquoise waters of Naxos, as well as participate in thrilling naval battles. The only thing it's missing is famous sea monsters to really amplify the experience.

Inspired by Norse mythology , Iron Gate Studio's Valheim is a top-notch, challenging survival game where you play as a Viking who's recently died in battle. The objective of the game is for you to prove that you're deserving of entering Valhalla as a glorious, battle-hardened warrior.

Build a house and your very own ship, and travel to other biomes to defeat its resident monsters. Navigate the waters of the ocean biome on your Viking longboat and slay fearsome sea serpents as you demonstrate your battle prowess to Odin. You're in for a memorable afterlife as you sail the monster-ridden waters of Valheim.

13 Ship Handling Simulator

This 2021 iteration of sailing simulator games gives you the ability to steer a variety of ships around the open ocean, as well as how to dock it properly. From Titanic-sized cruise liners to your private one-man yacht, keeping your vessel seaworthy and floating is a real challenge in this game.

With obstacles like icebergs or tempestuous weather, you also have to contend with not trying to smash into other ships. Ship Handling Simulator is definitely as tough and tricky as other simulator games out there.

12 Blackwake

Experience the rough and tumble life of a pirate in Mastfire's Blackwake, a first-person multiplayer game focused on bombastic ship battles and just being the most intimidating pirate imaginable. Scour the open seas on your pirate ship for enemy vessels to attack and loot from.

Natural disasters and rainstorms are a given for the seafaring pirate, along with ship maintenance. Establishing dominance over the seas with your trusty pirate crew as you voyage past volcanic islands and brave Mother Nature.

11 Ultimate Admiral: Age Of Sail

One of the most realistic sailing games ever launched, Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail allows you to place yourself in the shoes of famous naval commanders like Lord Nelson. With the ability to choose between either the British or American campaigns, you'll get to participate in historic battles and win wars.

The game developers really did a marvelous job trying to make it as lifelike as possible, adding in factors such as varying wind plans for every ship. They even accounted for the course of the wind and how it might affect the amount of damage your attacks will deliver. Historically accurate and detailed ships also boost the realistic factor the developers are aiming for.

10 Sea Dogs

This Russian-made single-player action-adventure RPG sees you play as Nicolas Sharp, whose father was lost at sea since he was a child. Nicolas develops a passion for the sea and the life of a seafarer and sets out to sea as soon as he's old enough.

Related: The Best Games That Let You Play As A Pirate

Throughout your voyage as Nicolas, you'll be presented with the choice of working for three major nations (France; England; Spain) or you can choose to go rogue and become a pirate. With tons of different ship models and naval combat tactics to explore, Nicolas's tale and quest to find his father makes for a seaworthy adventure.

9 Furious Seas

Future Immersive's Furious Seas is an action-packed, first-person VR game where you can make a name for yourself as a pirate with as notorious a reputation as Blackbeard himself. Fire your cannons at enemy pirates or seek out adventures and explore nearby islands.

The game's Survival Mode puts you in a survival-of-the-fittest race in order to come out on top as the undefeated King of the Seas. Keeping your ship in tip-top shape and upgrading it is essential to remaining ahead of your enemies.

8 From The Depths

Did someone say warships? From the Depths is essentially a sandbox warfare game, giving you the freedom to build large warships, as well as a variety of land-based weapons of destruction. With over 1,000 components, you can make any type of ship that your heart desires.

If you want to use pre-built ships, don't forget to check out the community-made blueprints. Many players have created some truly amazing builds that are worth exploring.

7 Maelstrom

Set in a fantastical world riddled with sea monsters and other beasts, Maelstrom allows you to choose from a range of fictitious races, where you can captain your ship as a Dwarf or an Orc. A largely multiplayer game, sail your ship around the Abyssal Ocean, a vast place teeming with gigantic creatures that keep you on your toes.

Any manner of beast can pop out at any time, so looting chests of gold from other ships or unexplored islands is the best way to quickly ramp up your ship's defenses. What's even better is that this game is free to play on Steam.

This game takes peaceful serenity to another level. Taking your boat out to cruise on the sun-dappled, shimmering seas as you seek uncharted shores is one of the best features in the game.

Although not as action-packed as the games in the previous entries, Salt stands out on its own as an open-world survival game that blends tranquillity and the beauty of nature with the hard life of an islander.

5 Black Desert Online

Black Desert Online is a sandbox MMORPG, which means that you can do anything that you want, including building an epic ship. In this game, if you choose to focus on shipbuilding, you can head to a harbor city and get to work.

Here, you will need to complete a few quests and learn the basics of sailing; before you know it, you'll be sailing on the open seas!

Looking for a cozy ship sailing simulator? Sailwind is the game for you. This is essentially a survival game that takes place on a ship, allowing you to explore, fish, and even cook. With ship customization, you can make your ship uniquely you.

Sailwind is slow-paced, much like ship sailing in real life. There are tense moments, but for the most part, you will need to tend to your ship and stay on course, while having a relaxing journey on board. Overall, this is the ultimate single-player game to relax with.

3 Sea of Craft

Sea of Craft is a nautical version of Minecraft. In this game, you will build a ship from the ground up; you can customize it any way you want. There are stages and a simple story that you can play through, but the real fun comes in creative mode.

While in creative mode, you can build the ship of your dreams, experiment with different styles, and create anything you want. As a 'sandbox ocean-building game', you will also need to take real physics into account while playing.

2 The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a bit of an honorable mention, since you won't be sailing a ship for the majority of the game. You can, however, design your very own watercraft using your Ultrahand ability.

This ability allows you to fuse items together with a sticky green goop. By attaching the right combination of platforms, steering sticks, and fans, you can make yourself a boat worthy of sailing all the rivers in Hyrule.

1 Moonglow Bay

Lastly, we have Moonglow Bay . This game is a bit different than the other entries on our list. Rather than sailing on the open seas, you will sail around the town of Moonglow Bay collecting different fish and completing quests.

As you progress, you can upgrade your ship to become more efficient. Overall, your goal is to help the town rebuild and have your fish shop become a hit.

11 Best Ship-Sailing Games to Play Instead of Skull and Bones

11 Best Ship-Sailing Games to Play Instead of Skull and Bones

Ready for a life on the waves? Here's our pick of the best ship-based games for you, captain.

After a well-documented journey through the choppy waters of game development,  Skull and Bones is finally out. During open betas, it looked like a swashbuckling AAA, yet there were concerns that it might not ever make it to shore.

Ubisoft’s newest release has closed in on safe harbor, but not everyone is cheering for its arrival. Players expected the excitement of expanding their fleet of ships, growing their reputation by completing contracts and smuggling goods, and taking on challenging naval combat. Alas, Skull and Bones did not live up to those expectations. But don't frown, champs! While it may not be one of the best ship-sailing games, there are plenty of other titles in which you can rise through the ranks and become the most feared pirate captain alive.

What other ship-sailing games to play in 2024?

Whatever your pace, whether you're looking for something action-packed with plenty of naval battles and pirate antics, or something a little more serene and easy going, we've put together a great list of games to keep even the saltiest sea dogs entertained.

One of the breakout successes of 2023, Dredge manages to be both a relaxing fishing simulation and a sinister sea-based video game. Represented through a day-night cycle that takes you from the serene fishing and exploration of daylight hours to much creepier nighttime on the waves, Dredge will have you hooked from the intro.

Every day, you’ll need to make it safely back to the dock with your fish and other watery finds in saleable condition and then use that money to upgrade your boat for another journey out into the unknown, uncovering Dredge’s eerie plot in the process. There’s much more to Dredge’s world than first meets the eye, and you’ll soon find out that staying out on the water can lead to more than a about of seasickness.

Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked

Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked is a sailing-themed survival expansion for its immensely popular base game. Stranded and alone on a tropical archipelago, you’ll need to learn how to survive all over again, crafting a boat and setting sail across a world full of new creatures, seasons and biomes — and all of whom want to kill you.

There’s loads of variety in this DLC too. One minute you’ll be fending off foes during naval wars games, then the next you’ll need to be scavenging for resources and running for your life from new monsters both terrifyingly big and worryingly small. But whatever you do, remember: don’t starve.

Kinguin

On first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t much under the surface of this cutesy-looking title. But, if you’re a fan of Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, you’d be doing yourself a favour by checking out this beguiling sailing simulator.

Packed with mysteries to uncover and colourful characters (both friend and foe) to encounter, the vast ocean world of  Sail Forth is easy to lose yourself in. Fancy learning a secret ‘spy speak’? You’ll find that here. What about spending some time sailing around taking pictures of the local wildlife? Why not, eh? Or perhaps you just want to go ‘free sail’ mode and take your customised ship out for a while? There’s nothing stopping you.

And as for fans of naval games, Sail Forth lets you build, modify and manage a large fleet of vessels, kitted out and ready to do battle out on the open waves.

Dave the Diver

Truth be told, there’s not an awful lot of sailing to be done in Dave the Diver (though you do have a boat that acts as a base of operations for much of the game), but we’re putting it in this list because, quite frankly, it’s one of the most peculiarly sublime games to have been released last year — ship sailing game or not.

If you’ve not heard of the Steam Awards’ 2023 Sit Back and Relax winner, Dave the Diver sees you spend your days catching fish and exploring the mysterious Blue Hole lagoon, completing loads of pleasingly odd mini games and side questions along the way (sea life photography to sea horse racing and much, much more beyond).

At night, you run a sushi restaurant, cooking and serving up the day’s catches to a host of different customers, including demanding VIPs whose recommendations can help provide a boost to your up-and-coming eatery. This delightful indie-esque RPG is so full of curious characters and satisfying game loops, it’s no wonder it’s already sold 3 million copies since its full launch in June 2024.

Sea of Thieves 2024 Edition

Now, it’s a beloved immersive and thrilling pirate-themed naval game that has players sinking in hours of playtime into it. Set in a vast open-world environment, it offers endless opportunities for exploration, treasure hunting and epic naval battles.

What sets Sea of Thieves apart from a lot of other naval combat games is its emphasis on cooperative gameplay, making it perfect for those who enjoy engaging with friends and working together as a crew. However, thanks to a recent update, it’s rich world can be explored alone, thanks to the new single-player mode. Captain Bones: A Pirate’s Journey

In this open-world survival game, you’ll take control of the titular character — a regular seafarer who must become a brilliant captain in order to survive and break a mysterious curse that follows him from port to port. You’ll need to craft weapons and rafts from materials you find in the environment (or hidden within buried treasure chests), and travel to numerous islands in search of riches and crew members to help you become the legendary captain you were always meant to be. Don’t let Captain Bones: A Pirate's Journey's charming hand-crafted islands fool you, either — there’s danger ‘round every corner, over the crest of every wave, and even under the sea itself.

Captain Bones : A Pirate's Journey PC

That's yer lot, you bunch of landlubbers!

So, that’s the list. What do you think? Have we missed your favourite sailing game off the list? Do you love pirate games and want more of that stuff? Prefer underwater games instead? Maybe you can’t find fault and reckon this list to be shipshape and Bristol fashion (look it up). Or maybe you hate all these recommendations and think we should walk the plank. Let us know in the comments.

Fighting

Finally, a naval combat sim that gets sailing ships right

Constitution1

Even in early alpha, Game-Labs' Naval Action is a fascinating simulation of combat in the Age of Sail . But I was curious why director Maxim Zasov was so drawn to the topic that he made it one of the first games he developed at his studio.

For Zasov, it's not just about tall ships' beauty and power, though, as he points out, "Age of Sail [warships] were the spaceships of that time …Wellington had 175 cannons at Waterloo, mostly 6-9 lbs. Just one first-rate ship of the line had 120-140 guns, most of which were 18 pounders or above."

No, Zasov is also fascinated by the way sailing ships were intertwined with the culture of the Enlightenment.

"If you go to Westminster Abbey—right near the monuments to 23 Monarchs, Newton, Shakespeare, and Darwin—there is a memorial to lowly Captain James Montagu, who died at [the] glorious first of June naval battle," he said. "In Paris under the dome of Pantheon, where you find tombs of Voltaire, Rousseau, Hugo, and Dumas, there is a monument to a lost crew of a warship sank in the same battle. Trafalgar Square and many other places are examples of the fact that [the] Age of Sail was the [part of the] fabric of society."

Naval Action - The Chase

The old tall-ships still have the power to captivate. They were a huge part of Empire: Total War's appeal, and they stole the show in Assassin's Creed 3 and became the basis for Black Flag and Rogue . But they also got a very Pirates of the Caribbean-treatment in those games, which shied away from the complexities of wind and sail. So Zasov decided to give tall ships the sim they deserved.

"It is easy to stand on the shoulders of giants, but in our case most of the mechanics we did are innovations—they were never done this way before," he says. "Correct tacking, boxhauling, tracking shots, yard control: we made all those mechanics realistic, but fun and useful in combat. We invented them."

Following seas

It's not an idle boast. Even in an early state, Naval Action's simple PvE and PvP battles already confirm that it's one of the first games that manages to do justice to both the violence and the grace of sail-powered combat.

The biggest gaming news, reviews and hardware deals

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Naval Action beautifully captures the relationship between the wind and a ship's sails, but also the finicky, sometimes counterintuitive handling of sailing ships and how difficult it can be to precisely control them. That's especially true if you turn off the "autoskipper" and start controlling your sails yourself. You can play your ship as a simple WASD-controlled vehicle if you like (though it will still falter as you turn into the wind) but you also have the option of setting the exact angles and position of your yards.

Managing sails adds a lot to the mental workload of captaining a ship, but Naval Action also gives you a lot of incentives to handle them yourself.

"You turn better," Zasov explains. "[The] autoskipper optimizes for speed. To get extra from your vessel you need to use yards: just like with [a] car—to push for more, use manual shift and use the handbrake at the right moments."

Your crew can be used to make repairs in battle.

There are even some high-level maneuvers that a skilled captain can execute, Zasov says. For instance, if you know what you're doing, you can steer into the wind, put your yards perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and use it to sail backwards, which can let you squeeze off another broadside against an enemy that was hoping you would overshoot. I know you can do this because I've sailed my ship backwards in Naval Action… just never on purpose.

Combat is as vivid as the sailing is authentic: during a heated battle, ships will effectively vanish behind fogbanks of gunsmoke. Sails get cut to ribbons, hulls get pocked and holed by hits, often affecting a ship's performance. You can send crew to make repairs in battle, but at the expense of doing other things, like adjusting sails and reloading guns at full-speed.

Targeting is where Naval Action is at its most unforgiving. Your smoothbore cannons are reasonably accurate, but they're definitely not precision weapons, and you have to guess at ranges. While your guns zero-in on a point on the horizon as you take time to aim, setting the correct angle is maddening guesswork. Shoot too high and your shots sail harmlessly past your target. Shoot low and they splash down in the water short of the hull. And unless you're just keeping perfect distance from your target (which is dangerous, since it requires carefully-timed turns to throw-off an opponent's broadside), the information from your last shot will be useless by the time the guns are reloaded. It's no wonder that Nelson's navy succeeded by trying to close to point-blank range with their enemies and blasting the hell out of them.

Ships become shrouded by cannon fire.

As a purely naval-combat game, Naval Action already has a lot going for it. But then, Naval Action aims to be a lot more than just "World of Sailing Ships." Game-Labs is building Naval Action as an open-world sailing game.

"In the open world design, we wanted to convey the feeling of danger and vast distance," Zasov says. "We wanted the player to experience what a real captain would feel in the Age of Sail. The search, the chase, the combat would feel much closer than in all other games made to date. Seas are vast, often empty and full of pitfalls: shallows, storms, pirates, and player enemies."

What is most important we were able to replicate the feeling of getting lost at sea.

What Zasov describes sounds a bit like an sail-powered Silent Hunter, except that you can be both predator and prey. Normal trade lanes will be full of traffic and military vessels, while sailing outside of them can mean days and days without a single ship sighting. On the other hand, a single unidentified ship on the horizon near hostile waters can start a long chase. The goal is to bring to life the rhythms of a warship.

A lovely day shown off in a screen from Naval Action's blog.

Naval Action's blog

"We are already proud of our open world for several reasons. What is most important we were able to replicate the feeling of getting lost at sea. This is something special that have been lost from games for quite a while," Zasov says.

Naval Action sales are on a temporary hiatus. The early purchasers have formed a small testing community and sales are closed until the game is developed further and the servers prepared to handle greater load. Zasov estimates Naval Action is a month to three months away from an Early Access release. The final version, with a living PvP open-world, is a bit further off, he admits. Given Zasov's ambitions for open-world PvP on the high seas, the wait could be a lengthy but worthwhile one.

Best Co-Op Farming Simulation Games, Ranked

The best real life simulation games, 18 best factory simulation games, ranked, key takeaways.

  • Ship simulators come in three types: single vessel piloting, shipping/trading, and military combat with historical accuracy.
  • Old school game Ports of Call simulates trading empire on a tramp steamer; still popular for its charm and gameplay.
  • Carrier Command 2 offers detailed naval battles with player control over boats and aircraft; shines in team-based multiplayer.

Simulation games have always been popular with certain types of gamers — those looking for deep gameplay, along with features that mimic real-world scenarios. Space simulators, empire simulators, city simulators, and even truck simulators are all very popular. However, when it comes to ship simulators, the pickings are somewhat slim.

7 Best Shop Simulator Games

As a niche offshoot of the management sim, these excellent Shop Simulator games task players with designing and managing their own retail shop.

There are three main types of ship simulators. Firstly, those that simply simulate piloting or sailing a single vessel , be this a large ship or a small sailing yacht. Secondly, there are those that simulate shipping in general, involving not just piloting a ship, but also trading goods. Lastly, there are military ship simulators, featuring live action combat and generally a military campaign to complete.

7 Ship Simulator Extremes

Old school paradox interactive sim.

  • Platforms : Microsoft Windows
  • Released : 2010
  • Developer : Paradox Interactive
  • Genre : Ship Simulator

Before Paradox Interactive became known for quality grand strategy games such as Stellaris and the entire Victoria franchise, it developed and published a fair number of forgotten titles. One of these is Ship Simulator Extremes . This is a game that lets players take control of various sea-going craft, such as a supertanker, a whaler, and a coast guard vessel.

Released in 2010, it is somewhat dated now on the graphics front. The game includes several play modes, including the story mode, specific hand-crafted scenarios, an environmentally focused campaign, and even a multiplayer mode.

6 Ports Of Call

An excellent but ancient shipping simulator.

  • Platforms : Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Amiga, DOS, AmigaOS
  • Released : 1987
  • Developer : Dipl. Ing. Rolf-Dieter Klein

Ports of Call is a very old game, originally released for the Commodore Amiga home computer . It combines text and graphics-based game progression with live-action footage. Rather than purely simulating the piloting of a ship, it simulates a trading empire based around a single tramp steamer.

The following excellent farming simulation games let players share the fun with a friend or group.

Gamers might be put off by the fact that this game is almost 40 years old at the time of writing. However, there is a reason it was ported to Microsoft Windows and is still available for sale on Steam. And this reason is that it is simply a great game. Sure, it is a throwback to the days when games were simpler, but this is part of its charm.

5 European Ship Simulator

Cruising the sea ports of europe.

  • Platforms : Microsoft Windows, macOS
  • Released : 2016
  • Developer : Excalibur

This is a ship simulation game that offers quite a lot. There are over eighty different vessels that can be controlled by the player. The behavior of each ship is carefully modeled. Small ships will struggle in high seas, while larger ships will simply bully their way through even the largest waves.

European Ship Simulator comes complete with its own mission editor , which the player can use to extend the gameplay in ways that are only limited by their imagination. However, only 6 European ports are included in the game, which is a little bit of a shame, as it means the navigable area is quite limited.

4 Task Force 1942

Naval action in the south pacific.

  • Platforms : Microsoft Windows, DOS
  • Released : 1992
  • Developer : Microprose
  • Genre : Military Ship Simulator

The first military ship simulator on this list, Task Force 1942 , is an older Microprose title. It pits the U.S. Navy against Japanese forces in the South Pacific during World War 2. This is a vast game, with hundreds of different combat vessels fully modeled and simulated.

There are two game modes in Task Force 1942 . Firstly, there is the campaign mode, and the player can choose to represent either America or Japan. This is a fantastic recreation of the war in the South Pacific. Secondly, there are many scripted scenarios based on famous battles of the era that players can try. Overall, this game deserves a place on this list simply because of its huge scope and historical accuracy.

3 Carrier Command 2

Full naval battle simulator.

  • Platforms : GeForce Now, Microsoft Windows, macOS
  • Released : 2021

The second Microprose military ship simulator on this list, Carrier Command 2 is something of a spiritual successor to the aforementioned Task Force 1942 . And while this game does enable the player to take control of a massive aircraft carrier, it offers so much more. Every boat and aircraft launched from the carrier can be player-controlled — or left to operate under AI control.

There is an impressive variety of life simulation games available, and these are easily the best out of all of them.

As military strategy games go, very few demonstrate as many accurate details as Carrier Command 2 . Although the player is free to play the game from the scenario viewpoint, where this game really shines is in the team-based multiplayer mode. Opposing teams take control of their own carrier, and team members fly missions from its deck with an impressive range of planes and other military hardware.

2 Sailaway: The Sailing Simulator

In-depth sailing simulation.

  • Platforms : Microsoft Windows and macOS
  • Released : 2017
  • Developer : Orbcreation
  • Genre : Sailing Simulator

Accuracy is the premise of Sailaway: The Sailing Simulator . Even the Steam page warns that this is not a game in the truest sense, but a detailed sailing simulator that is backed by a huge community of real-world sailing aficionados.

The simulation takes place in the South Pacific, with accurately recreated coastlines, including all the islands, each of which can be visited by the player. Gameplay takes place in a persistent world ; this is not an offline game. This means that before a player goes offline, they will need to ensure that they have set their autopilot, and the boat is operating at optimal levels. This game earns a place on this list due to its incredible attention to detail.

1 Sinking Simulator

A different take on ship simulation.

  • Plaforms : Microsoft Windows and macOS
  • Released : 2013
  • Developer : Wicpar

This game would have earned a place on this list simply for having such a great premise. However, it deserves the number one place because, despite its tongue-in-cheek nature, it is actually an incredibly fun game to play. Even though it was released over a decade ago, it is noted as having one of the best soft-body physics engines ever made.

Gameplay involves taking one of the many included ships, including certain historic ones, and well, trying to sink them. This isn’t as easy to achieve as it may sound, though. These ships are simulated accurately and were originally designed not to sink, even when damaged catastrophically. The player can set certain conditions, such as the type of damage received and where, and then watch how the ship performs. Will it sink or won’t it?

Simulation games have several subgenres, such as factory simulations, and these are the best for players to try.

Skull and Bones: How to use fast travel

  • Author: Stoyan Ovcharov

Skull and Bones is a pirate game, so, naturally, it’s all about sailing with your ship, exploring the open sea, sinking other ships, and just doing pirate stuff.

While exploring the vast open-world map of Skull and Bones can be fun, sometimes you just need to go back to a specific outpost to restock your ship, or hand in a completed contract.

There is a fast travel option in Skull and Bones, but you don’t have it unlocked from the beginning, and the game doesn’t really tell you about it.

Here’s everything there is to know about how to fast travel in Skull and Bones .

How to fast travel in skull and bones.

To use fast travel in Skull and Bones, you must first reach Sainte-Anne, as the option is not available during the opening section of the game. Once you’ve discovered a second outpost, the fast travel option will become available from the ship’s menu.

Arrival at Sainte Anne in Skull and Bones

Fast travel only becomes available after you've reached Sainte-Anne and have visited at least one outpost.

You can fast travel only to outposts you have visited before , so make sure you disembark at docking points you may want to revisit. Unlocked fast travel points are indicated on the map by a small icon with two arrows pointing right.

Skull and Bones set sail / ship menu with the fast travel option available

You fast travel from the set sail menu, where you can also manage your ship.

Ubisoft / GLHF

To fast travel, while you are at an Outpost or Den, board your ship and select ‘Fast Travel’, instead of ‘Set Sail’. Hover over an outpost on the map, and if you’ve been there before, the option to fast travel will appear at the bottom of its details box.

Another way to fast travel is to just open the map while you're in an outpost or den, and then select your destination.

Fast travel is only available to and from Outposts and Dens , where you can disembark from your ship. Smaller pass-by points of interest that you can only interact with while sailing are not valid fast travel destinations. Fast travel is not available while you're sailing in the open sea.

Palisade Bay settlement location in Skull and Bones show on the in-game map

Settlements, like Palisade Bay, are not available as fast travel destinations.

How much does it cost to fast travel in Skull and Bones

Unlike other open-world games , Skull and Bones won’t let you fast travel for free . Using fast travel costs Silver, depending on the distance you want to skip. The amount required is displayed in the upper-right corner of the screen before you confirm your destination.

Fast travel to Sainte-Anne from Lanitra would cost you 260 Silver.

Fast travel to Sainte-Anne from Lanitra would cost you 260 Silver.

A trip from Sainte-Anne to Lanitra, for example, costs 260 Silver, but a jump from Lanitra to Fort Louis will set you back 335 Silver.

Skipping the sea all the way to Fort Louis from Lanitra costs well above 300 Silver.

Skipping the sea all the way to Fort Louis from Lanitra costs well above 300 Silver.

Fast travel does not advance the in-game time, so you don’t have to worry about failing limited-time quests.

MultiChoice is commencing production on “ My F*k , Marelize,” a feature film inspired by a viral video from Namibia . The announcement was made at this year’s Silwerskerm Film Festival in Cape Town.

The film, set in Windhoek, Namibia, is based on true events surrounding the Horn family. It follows Marelize Horn as she prepares to become an au pair in the Netherlands and her mother, Heidi Horn, as she handles a cancer diagnosis. The story unfolds against the backdrop of WIKA, the annual Windhoek Carnival.

“This film is going to surprise everyone,” Innes said. “When people think of a movie based on the phrase ‘my f*k, Marelize’, they’re probably expecting a slapstick comedy about a teenager who bumps into things all the time. The story of the Horn family has so much more depth than that.”

“This story is a celebration of life,” added Coetzer. “A showcase of how our people in Namibia and South Africa greet every challenge with a joke and face it with laughter. I was fortunate to spend time with the Horn family and witnessing their dynamic as a unit gave me such a clear vision for the film. As an Afrikaner, it is really special to be able to celebrate my language, culture and people in a story that speaks to our humor and way of doing life.”

Waldimar Pelser, M-Net channel director: premium channels, said: “kykNET is deeply rooted in Namibia, and we take great pride to be able to support not just any co-production with strong Namibian ties, but this one — a story full of pathos and humor with a unique local character.”

Haikali described the film as a “love letter to Windhoek life,” and a celebration of “quirky Namibian charm and vibrant spirit with plenty of humor.”

The Horn family has been involved since the project’s inception. Marelize Horn said: “When I got a random Facebook message from Brett last year about wanting to make a film about our family, I didn’t know quite what to expect. Now they’re about to start filming, and I can’t wait to see how our experience is brought to life.”

Filming is set to begin in September in Namibia.

3 Short, Charming Games for Labor Day Weekend

Complete silly chores in Thank Goodness You’re Here!, solve puzzles by jumping between shadows in SCHiM and paint your way through Montreal in Été.

In a video game screenshot, a small balding man jumps beneath three steaks hanging inside a butcher’s shop.

By Christopher Byrd

As summer draws to a close, let’s hope that the brutal heat waves will continue to recede. If you’re looking to spend a luxuriant weekend indoors, here are three relatively short games that will make you laugh, test your platforming skills and allow for a bit of aesthetic creativity.

Thank Goodness You’re Here!

Imagine a place where your preferred size of the meat pie might lead a chap to say, “No daughter of mine is going with a big pie man!” Set in the fictional northern England town of Barnsworth — but imbued with the spirit of Yorkshire — Thank Goodness You’re Here! is a stout concoction of British tomfoolery that blends bawdy, slapstick and demented comedy, with possibly another register or two that I missed being the untutored Yank I am. (I was “reyt” grateful for the subtitles.)

The game plops you in the role of a traveling salesman who has been sent from his home office to have a sit-down with the mayor responsible for a little spot of flyover country. Alas, the local bigwig is tied up when you arrive so you’re left with nothing to do except explore the local habitat. Your much put-upon character is a tie-wearing little fella with a boyish mug and a receding hairline in a world of bigger folk with silly chores to complete. Think: hopping on a lawn mower and decapitating a serenading flower, or sinking into a slice of steak at a butcher’s shop and learning the personal trauma of a sausage link.

The game’s mechanics are straightforward: walk, run, jump and slap. Slapping people is encouraged if you want to hear their daffy lines. (I’m stopping myself from describing one funny reaction to bum slapping.) In addition to some basic platforming sections, the variety of the situations our traveling salesman finds himself in gives Thank Goodness You’re Here! brisk momentum.

As someone who is not an aficionado of British comedy, I confess that I was skeptical when one of the first gags was sliding a glob of butter to a hapless man in need of lubricant owing to his arm being caught in a drainage gate. Yet by the second half of the game I found myself regularly chortling aloud over the goings of the town’s inhabitants, especially Jasper the handyman, who suspects — incorrectly, but not without reason! — that his neighbors have pinched his tools. By the time I reached the finale, which brings several narrative threads together into a rollicking celebration of work, I was fully charmed.

Thank Goodness You’re Here! is a splendidly madcap game. Put a kettle on the hob and tuck in.

With its fine-line art style and minimalist color palette, SCHiM fuses the visual refinement of a wordless graphic novel with a fanciful platformer. The game’s titular figure is a googly-eyed shadow that becomes decoupled from its human after the latter loses his office job. (The word “schim” is Dutch for shadow or ghost.)

In its effort to reconnect, the shadow sets out on an adventure trailing the young man as he makes his way through the world by taking on a series of blue-collar jobs. Players must steer between pools of shadows cast by objects and other living creatures. With the press of a button, they can interact with objects and characters for amusement and to solve light puzzles. SCHiM’s default mode allows two quick jumps to make it from one patch of darkness to the next; those desiring an added challenge can tweak the settings to remove checkpoints and allow for just one jump.

SCHiM offers a panoramic vision of quotidian life that oddly put me in mind of Grand Theft Auto on account of the breadth of the situations at hand. Over the course of its 65 levels, players will find themselves strategically hopping between the shadows of baskets in grocery stores, timing jumps between the flashing lights of car alarms and meandering through crowds on a beach. Individual levels vary in size and complexity with periodic difficulty spikes followed by more relaxed challenges.

I knew that SCHiM had worked a little magic on me after I put my controller down to take an afternoon stroll and gazed with newfound interest at the shifting patterns of shadows around me. What’s not to admire about a game that causes a spirit of enchantment to bleed into the real world?

It’s hard to be a working artist unless you have a supportive community behind you. That’s the premise that drives things forward in this painter simulator that, as its French name suggests, unfolds over a summer in Montreal. Été soaks you in a Gallic atmosphere of (slightly ponderous) whimsy.

On the first day of your trip, you discover that the furnished apartment that you booked online boasts all of a bed and a few kitchen supplies. Your landlord tells you that her parents fretted over leaving their antique furniture in the care of a subletter; she adds, quelle chance!, that she can sell you furniture from her family’s antique store. Seeing as you have no other way to get by, she recommends a local cafe that’s happy to allow local artists to display and sell their work.

In order to make money, you’ll have to spend time at your easel using the game’s intuitive drawing mechanics. By clicking on pictures under different categories (e.g. art, people, animals, architecture, transport) you can select “stamps” to apply to the canvas. These pictures can easily be rotated, rescaled and recolored as you see fit. It’s easy to turn out eye-catching work like the underside of a fly, angled just so, set against a rapturous explosion of color. No, seriously, I have little doubt that others will extract more interesting pictures than I impatiently did.

The number of stamps and colors available are quite limited at the beginning. To up the resources at your disposal, you’ll have to hit the streets of Montreal and color in the otherwise washed-out environment by shooting at objects with your supply of quickly replenishing paint. For better or worse, this part of Été comes off as a sort of quick-gratification adult coloring book. The generous way to look at it is as a vehicle for zoning out.

A scattering of denizens throughout the city will ask you to paint things for them. Some requests you’d expect: a landscape, a still life, a portrait. Other commissions are a bit more surprising, like a sign for the kitchen of an anarchist commune, or one for a store owner who wants to sell weed on the sly.

If you’d like to imagine yourself as an ambitious visual artist without having to put in anything like those fabled 10,000 hours of work, Été will happily massage your vanity.

Thank Goodness You’re Here and Été were reviewed on a PC; the former is also available on the PlayStation 4, PS5 and Switch. SCHiM was reviewed on the PS5 and is also available on the PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Lana Del Rey Is Rumored To Be Dating An Air Boat Captain Who, Randomly, Is Also Friends With Glen Powell

She called him "my guy" on Instagram a few months ago.

Natasha Jokic

BuzzFeed Staff

Lana Del Rey apparently has a new man in her life: swamp boat captain Jeremy Dufrene.

Lana Del Rey performs on stage wearing a sleeveless floral dress, holding a microphone

The two were filmed holding hands backstage at Reading Festival, which Lana headlined. They've since been spotted together in London.

Lana Del Rey poses with Jeremy on an airboat. She shows a peace sign while both wear headsets and sunglasses

According to a bio on his company website, Jeremy used to work at a chemical plant and fish for shrimp in his spare time. He then got his airboat license and "loves interacting with wildlife & customers." Some places have reported that he's an alligator hunter, but we were unable to verify this.

The two appeared to have met back in 2019, as Lana shared pictures on her social media with Jeremy on her swamp tour along with the caption, "Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours x."

Perhaps tellingly, a few months ago, Lana shared a picture with her siblings wearing swamp boat ear protection and captioned it, "Family w my guy."

Randomly, Lana isn't the only celeb that Jeremy has in his life: Glen Powell became his friend after taking copious swamp boat tours while filming Scream Queens .

Lana has generally kept her love life private, but she did previously date cop and reality TV persona Sean Larkin.

“Quite simply this is the most technically accurate sailing simulator I have experienced. This alone can teach you all the jargon, the procedures and best practices for real life sailing. Excellent A*” A* – Sim UK “The thought processes and actions required to sail your virtual boat are remarkably close to the real world.” Yachting Monthly “As well as being a great learning tool, and great reminder for skippers and crew who only get occasional opportunities to sail, it's great fun in its own right and provides the opportunity to get a sailing 'fix' whenever you have a spare 15-20 minutes.” Practical Boat Owner

About This Game

  • eSail Races. Pit your skills against other users or ‘computer skippered’ boats and become skilled at race tactics, tacking, gybing and trimming the sails including using the mainsheet, jib sheets and kicker (boom vang).
  • Treasure hunts. It’s all about throttle control! You need to get close enough to click on your prize without drifting into the jetty or quay. And make sure you are not going too fast when you grab your treasure or it will end up smashed on the deck!
  • Steering Challenges. Steer between the red and green buoys and keep your speed up for maximum points. But be careful of the other boats. They should observe collision regulations or ‘Rules of the Road’ but with your boat constantly changing direction they do not always behave as expected!
  • Anchoring. In these challenges you will anchor up, then we check your swing circle by applying different wind directions. You need to take into account the condition of the sea bed and lay down enough anchor chain.
  • Passage Planning. Using our unique charting tool, create a course between locations such as Maxwell Marina and Frazer Town via given waypoints. At the end of your voyage make sure you moor up safely (using your fenders) without making contact with the jetty!

sailboat video game

  • Sailing controls. Use your virtual crew to take full control of sails, control lines, winches and travellers. Practise your winch technique and learn how to operate cleats and jammers safely. You can also use AutoSail mode to make things a little easier when you are starting!
  • Anchoring. Think about the weather and check the conditions of the sea bed - sand, weed or rocks? - before deciding how much chain to let out. Get it wrong and your anchor will drag!
  • Mooring. Decide your best approach to the quay, step off the boat and secure your mooring lines. You can then opt to set up spring lines and even slip lines to help depart your mooring without embarrassment!
  • Charting. To the best of our knowledge eSail is the only simulator with a charting module which represents paper based charts. Use tools like dividers, plotter and pencil to plot your course, while looking out for lights from buoys and lighthouses to check your position.
  • The World of Shearwater. In our virtual world there are numerous places to visit within easy reach. Set in the mid Atlantic, the Shearwater Islands have been formed by volcanic activity and have changed hands many times. The Spanish, British, Americans and Italians have all left their mark – the latter building the folly known as Little Venice. This town has many buildings virtually identical to those found in the real Venice. The builders have thoughtfully created canals large enough to sail along with few bridges, so you can motor, sail and even race along the watery streets!
  • Weather. eSail models areas of high and low pressure which then move across the islands creating an infinite variety of wind and waves patterns. The wind and waves are further modified by the land masses, creating areas of calm where you can find shelter from the worst storms and anchor safely!
