Fiberglass Technology Marine Products
Bow pulpits in standard and custom sizes, standard size bow pulpits.
Our line of heavy duty composite fiberglass bow pulpits are designed for ease of installation. There is no fiberglass work required to install our bow pulpits. We provide mounting instructions along with options such as color matching and anchor rollers. The standard size bow pulpits are for boats ranging in size from 17′ to 55′.
Custom Bow Pulpits
Beachcomber can fabricate bow pulpits in a variety of sizes and configurations. We can take a customer’s drawing and create the bow pulpit. When there is a damaged bow pulpit beyond repair, the customer can ship us the original bow pulpit. We will fabricate the new bow pulpit to the original design. The construction will be a hand laminated fiberglass composite. We can also match the color. The original hardware can be reinstalled or new hardware can be provided. As with all our marine products, the bow pulpits come with a two year structural warranty.

Recycled plastic bow pulpit – 3ft x 16in, recycled plastic bow pulpit – 4ft x 16in, recycled plastic bow pulpit – 5ft x 16in.
PlasTEAK bow pulpits are custom built. Each one is hand-crafted using UV stabilized Recycled Plastic lumber. These bow pulpits are extremely durable with embedded stainless steel for reinforced mounting. PlasTEAK bow pulpits come with a bottom anchor roller or can be custom built to accommodate surface rollers. Windlasses and anchor rodes are also available (sold separately). Recently I gave an old car to a friend of my brother. The young guy is a stainless steel welder, and as we were talking, I mentioned that I've always wanted to start welding. He asked what I would weld, and I told him about wanting a stern pulpit for my 1973 C-22. He said he would be interested in tackling that this winter, once worked slowed down, as a sort of trade for the car. So...if you could design a stern pulpit, what would you change to the original design? Or would you save the poor soul from trying to tackle the project in the first place. Also, I have young kids, so while the boat doesn't "need" them, they would be for my peace of mind. Our original C-22,(1980 version), came with the stations, but no stern pulpit. The safety lines led down and were terminated along the cockpit combing. I ended up buying a stern pulpit from a dealer who ordered one for a customer that never returned to buy it. We really liked the way it looked on the boat, and after many years, I wouldn't changed a thing from the original design. Don
C22-Daydreamer
CD had the separated stern pulpits on clearance the ones design for the Capri that could be installed on the C22's. So I snapped them up. They had some scratcheson the railing. I didn't have any front or back. Found a bow pulpit on ebay for under $300.00. Both are winter projects. My boat isn't perfect so I thought having a few scratches would fit the bill and save me some money. If I could afford it I would've have liked the old design that reached all the way around the stern. Maybe I'll try to find a stainless steel welder around here and have him add a cross member to tie the two separate pieces together.
Look at stern pulpits on most newer boats, they are almost always 2 piece designs. This is much easier to set up and fabricate. You have to be careful, to get everything set up right it needs to be set up on the boat, otherwise it won't fit correctly after finish welding (welding heat causes metal to move... A LOT). If I had a tube bender I would have made new ones rather than modify my old one.

As transoms got wider, it became more and more common to connect two corner rails with lifelines across the back. As cloud notes now one-piece aft pulpits are gone. Click to expand

This is a good example to use as a guide, a fabricator could make the two halves first and mount them up, tacking on the traveler tube last. Never liked that C22 traveler design. It's an accommodation for the transom hung rudder and to provide a six foot bench. It makes much more sense to install the traveler on a bridge near mid cockpit, for a vertical run to boom's end. That location, however, would not sell boats to "family in the cockpit" sailors. So I get it.. Another alternative is to move traveler to a separate bridge and remove the pushpit. This would allow a much larger range of motion and still provide vertical room for tiller, when raised. Way too much trouble though... when the simple answer is to employ the vang more aggressively when going up wind.

Joe, The factory traveler on a C-22 is pretty much useless in my opinion. I always say the best thing it's good for is pulling the mainsheet to the side to get at the BBQ grill on the stern pulpit. You'll see more and more of the racers abandoning them in the future I believe. The 3rd place boat in the C-22 Nationals this year didn't even use a traveler, (class rules don't say you have to use it). The boom is too weak in my opinion to hold up to sheeting in over the companionway, plus like you mention, the trip hazard. The new Selden spars are much stronger in my opinion, and could handle the loads, (think Capri-22). Don

building my own anchor pulpit

been keeping an eye out for an anchor pulpit cheap but thought maybe i would build my own? i figured 2 pieces of 3/4" ply glued together and shaped. if i am going to gel coat it do i need to fiberglass it too or just waterproof then gel coat over that? no windlass. just figured i would build one and install a stainless roller and add a hole of some sort to let the chain/rope pass through into the locker. i would think it would make anchor retrieval and deployment much easier? thoughts were that it would be a cheap enough project to learn on. if i screwed it up then no big deal and if it worked it would be a cheap add on that should be helpful.

The pulpit will need reinforcement as AD said or it's gonna pull out. You're gonna dump dripping wet anchor rode and chain in the locker - No need to worry about a little rain through the hawse.
WOGs formula, straight spar or any similar isnt going to provide a stable base for gelcoat. Its a polyester based product. It needs to be put on over polyester resin and glass. Gelcoat has adhesion problems over epoxy, so thats out too.
yeah, its a 25'er. and i am definitely reinforcing the underside. probably overkill too but thats how i usually do things...lol. i was thinking a 3/8" aluminum plate under the whole front section and then a smaller piece of the same 3/8" aluminum under the rear of the hatch opening to hold the aft end down too? if i have a big enough piece of aluminum (i don't think i do) i will cut it to match pulpit in one big piece with the hatch opening cut out too. is there any issue with mating aluminum up to the gel coat? no intentions of walking on it but want it strong and reliable. never know when somebody may need to step on it in an emergency

still toying around with this idea. how about using this plywood? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Columbia...anel-Free-Custom-Cut-Available-1888/203553013 it isn't marine grade but will that matter if i seal it up good? i need about 18"x36". 2 of these glued together to make 1.5" think and sealed well should do the trick? 1.5" may even be overkill?

You could use that but it has a very thin layer of Mahogany, so clear coating it will look nice for a while, but IMO won't last. I would suggest the easy way is get exterior plywood, then coat with epoxy paint
ugh...was hoping that might work. trying to make it look good too so painting exterior plywood is out. i'd rather leave it as is. guess i will probably just hold off until we get a bigger boat. i think a used teak pulpit will be too short to cover my locker door unless it was designed for a windlass then it will probably have too many hole and i don't want to install a windlass on this boat. too much work for all the longer i;m hoping to keep it

actually after looking at Teds install i may not need the wood or fiberglass. my objective is to let the anchor hang from the roller as his did. i can still leave my rope/chain in the locker. i was only using the wood to mount the roller and extend it out a little. i didn't realize rollers could mount like that without the pulpit. i may have to look into that. i just think launching and retrieving the anchor would be easier for me if it were already hanging out front due to my physical limitations. my anchor locker hatch isn't in great shape so i could cut a hole for the rope to go through then look for an alternative later. is this feasible? i don't have the boat here so i can't get measurements but i know the the rear of my hatch to the front of the bow is about 30" (i was thinking about 36" for the pulpit). my hatch is about 17" wide and close to square so about 15" long, which means i have roughly 15" of flat deck area in front of my hatch to mount the roller. the wood/fiberglass was only to serve as a base to mount the roller on

yeah, i think i can get away with just the stainless roller. i was thinking i NEEDED the wood under it but after seeing Teds pictures i guess not. that would be perfect and much easier (probably look better too)
that looks good shaw. i really doubt mine would turn out that nice though. using just the stainless roller will be much neater for me...lol. if i do decide to keep it a few more years and go the windlass route then i will probably copy-cat yours
