Is it better to hire a Cook or a Hostess?

Bareboat yacht charter in Croatia  also provides multitude of options to hire various crew members at skippered charters ( cook and hostess ). Please find below which option suits your holiday style better and what are the assignments they do.

1. Chartering a Hostess

Guests usually book our hostess when they want to have a relaxing and a care-free sailing holiday in Croatia. She can perform various tasks, on board and off board, that you usually have to take care alone when you hire a bareboat sailing charter in Croatia . Our crew is all fluent in English and sometimes also multilingual. Basic assignments of a hostess

  • keeping all areas on yacht clean and tidy
  • handling the provisioning throughout the trip (shopping for supplies, stocking boat lockers before and during your trip)
  • she prepares and serves two light meals daily (breakfast and one simple lunch). Extra meals are option with an additional fee.
  • washes the dishes, cleans the galley and salon

A Tip: We advise to transfer her some APA money (advanced provisioning allowance) so that she can supply your boat before arrival.

2. Hiring a Cook/Chef

The general assignment for cook on board is to prepare 3 meals a day , considering the client's preferences and what kind of food do they want. Usual fee for cook starts at  170€ per day . However, it can vary and mostly depends the boats size and number of the guests aboard.

Where does a hostess sleep?

The front bow cabins on catamarans are usually occupied with the crew, that is why we recommend to charter sailing yacht with 2 separate crew cabins. Most of the sailing catamarans in Croatia have such a layout. Sometimes, the crew can also sleep in the salon, but it is not something we advise, since everyone needs time to rest, so they can give you their best during the day.

It is also customary to take care of the crew's meals on your sailing trip. Feel free to invite your crew to join you at the dinner, they will be more than happy. If you wish to dine in privacy, they can east separately.

A Tip: When you hire a hostess you already have 2 meals included. That gives you extra time to explore the islands where you can dine in a local restaurant your crew will be happy to recommend. Here you can taste Dalmatian delicacies in fisherma's tavern called "konoba" - a must try!

What is the best time to sail in Croatia?

Best time for sailing in Croatia is definitively in summer months June July and August when the weather is simply glorious and everything is in full swing.

Is it better to charter a sailboat or a catamaran?

It is all up to your expectations and your budget.

In Croatia you can charter almost everything that floats. To rent a sailing boat in Croatia with skipper assures you to discover the most beautiful islands at your own pace and with a flexible route itinerary. It is considered the most genuine and fashionable way of exploring Adriatic coast.

On sailboats you mostly depnd on winds, but sailing yacht will give you more sailing pleasures with minimum fuel consumption. Catamarans are wider, more stable, and extra comfortable. Commodity however, also means higher rental price, larger costs on fuel and marina fees.

When it comes to quality of staying on board, catamarans ensure more privacy and space. Most of the catamarans for chartering in Croatia have cozy flybridge that provides extra places to chill or sunbathe. If you want to move faster and your main concern is not large fuel consumption, simply hire a motor yacht.

If you think green, rent a sailboat

Less consumption means less exhaust into the sea. Especially if you are an active explorer, you will certainly try to stay most of the time under sails. Hiring a sailboat in Croatia is definitively more exciting, fun and authentic holiday experience with an opportunity to gain some sailing knowledge and participate in various activities during your yacht charter week.

Choosing a sailing boat to suit your travelling style and budget

To narrow your choice, you should first estimate how much space do you need and how high can you stretch. Larger the group, bigger the boat, bigger the yacht, larger the cost. When you plan  sailing trip with children , catamaran might be a better choice. If you stay on a budget, a sailing yacht with 2 steering wheels and bathing platform should do. Usually 2 families rent one catamaran to divide the costs. One hull for one family.

How long does a sailing trip last?

Croatia sailing charter runs on weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. However, in shoulder season (September, May, October, June ) short sailing trips are also possible. To explore Croatia's coastline highlights and visit the most beautiful secluded treasures of the Dalmatian coast, we recommend to book one of our  7 day private sailing cruises .

Which islands are best to visit in Croatia?

Island hopping is one of the most exciting and authentic ways to travel around this hidden Mediterranean jewel. A week-long private Croatia sailing trip  is an exclusive way to explore some of the most remarkable Croatian islands, impressive marine national parks, hidden beaches with crystal clear water, secluded villages and genuine hospitality of the local people, inviting you to taste the topmost island culinary works of art.

Be sure not to miss these gems on your cruising adventure:

  • Hvar - is the "royalty" of Dalmatian coast, reflecting the perfect harmony between the old and the new

Can you swim in Croatia in September?

September  and October are the perfect months for a relaxing sailing cruise in Croatia . The sea temperatures are pleasant for swimming and still above 20 o (70F). With abundance of sun (especially on the islands) the air keeps constant 25 o (77F) during the day almost until late October. Expect lower yacht rental prices, less crowds on city streets and ports, maritime traffic is lower and you can always get a free berth in marina.

What should I bring on a yacht charter?

With plenty of sunny days and mild Med. climate, Croatia is among sunniest European destinations. Summertime on Adriatic is simply glorious. Sun-soaked Dalmatian islands are literally bathing in sunbeams, while the air is dry and the sea warm. If your sailing trip is in summer season, simply bring your summer wardrobe.

It is highly recommended to bring your soft handbag or a duffel bag  or rucksack instead of a plastic suitcase to gain more space in your cabin. Please read about the Sail Croatia Packing List for newbies and  remember to pack light.

Welcome to Delphinus Yachting

Stress free and flexibility

Stress free and flexibility

The itinerary for your cruise onboard Yacht Delphinus is flexible to suit how you like to spend your time on holiday and to maximise your enjoyment. It can be tailored to the number of actual sailing miles you wish to log each day, time spent sightseeing, swimming in the warm crystal clear water, learning the ropes, brushing up on RYA navigation theory, honing your boat handling skills and mooring techniques or just lazy days afloat reading a book on deck whilst soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand as we hop between the stunning Islands and Dalmatian coastline. As always however, weather conditions can sometimes dictate the day. Here is a sample itinerary for guests arriving early or mid morning.

Arrival

Meet and greet at the airport. A short drive to Cavtat for a leg stretch around this picturesque harbour followed by a curtesy drive up to the top of Mount Srd to take in the spectacular view of Dubrovnik 'Old Town' and lunch, or just a drink (not included in the charter fee), in the cliff top 'Panorama Restaurant'. (www.nautikarestaurants.com/panorama-restaurant-bar/) Or perhaps you would prefer to head straight back to Delphinus just a 30 minute drive from the airport to relax onboard after an early start to your day. Either way, complimentary welcome drinks and snacks will be available whilst you familiarise yourself with Yacht Delphinus and we run through the 'obligatory' safety briefing. For guests keen to 'Get Going ASAP', we can slip lines and sail off to a nearby Island to anchor offshore or pick up one of the taverna mooring buoys for the evening. Those wishing to catch their breath may prefer to just chill out onboard Delphinus on her private mooring whilst enjoying complimentary drinks for the afternoon. Take a wander down to one of the local restaurants for supper or head into Dubrovnik Old Town for a 'must do' site seeing visit of this stunning UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lokrum and Sipan

Lokrum and Sipan

A short sail round to Dubrovnik Old Town to get your sea legs and take in the view of this breath taking fortification from seaward. Anchor for lunch off the nearby island of Lokrum. Swim or tender ashore to explore this charming little Island. Afternoon sail to the Island of Sipan. Anchor and take the tender ashore for supper or perhaps enjoy the Skippers' BBQ onboard.

Ston and Mljet

Ston and Mljet

Sail to the little town of Ston on the Peljesac peninsular, famous for its salt pans and oyster farms, sight see the town and 'walk the wall' for those feeling energetic. The view from the top is worth the effort! Afternoon sail over to the island of Mljet to overnight in one of the many picturesque harbours.

Mljet

Sail up along the coast of Mljet to Polace or Pomena on its most Western tip. From there, take a taxi or hire electric bicycles to visit the beautiful national park and enjoy a lakeside picnic lunch. Perhaps the Skippers BBQ on board at anchor in the evening or moor up outside one of the local Tavernas for supper.

Korcula

Sail over to the Island of Korcula to experience the beautiful old walled town of Korcula itself, often referred to as 'Little Dubrovnik, and firmly believed by Croatians to be the birth place of Marco Polo.

Mljet

Sail back to the Island of Mljet and down its coastline to overnight in the beautiful harbour of Sobra or Okuklje as we make our way back to Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik

On our sail back to Dubrovnik, anchor for lunch in one of the numerous secluded bays on route and enjoy one last swim in the clear water before tying Delphinus back up on her home mooring. Late afternoon / early evening 'must do' site seeing visit of Dubrovnik Old Town if not already done so on day of arrival.

Day trips image

Hi Rob That was a holiday to remember - good weather, good sailing, great places to see, excellent food both on board and ashore. We all enjoyed it - the swimming, sailing and paddle boarding and the variety. Delphinus is a beautiful and very comfortable boat, generously sized for 4 passengers and one skipper, deceptively fast in a light wind, and very capable of battling against the wind with the motor, if needed. Most of all we benefitted from your deep knowledge of the area - the attractive little bay, an ideal stop for a swim and lunch; thank goodness for an electric anchor winch! And your guidance to the best local restaurant. We did not just enjoy the magnificent scenery at sea level, but explored several historic sites and cities which meant walking up and down steep paths and ancient steps getting a taste of the lives of the population over the centuries. You looked after us very well with good food, and - just as important - good drinks, both wines, spirits and fruit juice. Thank you very much.   Chris & Liz Wooddwalker:  October 2022
Rob is a relaxed and engaging host, quietly very competent and in full command of a well appointed and plentifully stocked boat. Our mixed ability crew was tested appropriately, with new skills absorbed. The runs out of Dubrovnik are beautiful, Rob's knowledge of the locale found us in plenty of picturesque moorings, and provided us with advice on extra activities such as walks, electric bike rides and swimming spots, during our mid October week. Highly recommended.   Vernon Antcliff:  October 2022
We had an absolutely brilliant time onboard the beautiful Delphinus with Rob. He arranged absolutely everything for us, from tranquil lunch spots in secluded bays to dinner in stunning waterside restaurants. He really did take all the stress out of planning a trip and his local knowledge and contacts made it such a great experience. We had some of the best seafood we've ever eaten at the restaurants that Rob recommended and booked for us! The boat is stylish, comfortable and Robs super friendly demeanour meant we felt relaxed the minute we stepped on board. The islands and beaches he took us to were truly stunning..having travelled extensively across Europe and beyond this was without doubt one of the best trips we've ever had...we'll absolutely be back to explore more of beautiful Croatia with skipper Rob.   Leanne & Gavin Goodwin:  July 2022
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday with friends on board Delphinus. Never having done a sailing holiday before, we weren’t sure what to expect but the Delphinus is beautiful and Rob is such a skilled yachtsman and the most marvellous host, it was perfect! Lunches on board moored alongside the Croatian coastline in the sun were memorable! He was full of information about the area and we even picked up a bit of sailing terminology! Definitely an experience to be repeated!   Graham & Jan Shaw:  September 2022
"We chartered Delphinus for the second year running and once again Rob's professionalism, hard work and attention to detail was absolutely outstanding. We have in the past bare-boated but realistically you lose one day either side of your holiday when bare-boating due to handover times and having to arrange all your own victualling. Rob takes care of all that prior to your arrival saving at least a day of your holiday and it’s all included in the price! Rob is happy to sail Delphinus alone to let you sit back and relax or to let you get on with it yourselves and quietly be in the background ever ready to draw on his vast experience to calmly provide support if needed. Delphinus is an excellent, stable, beautifully appointed and maintained yacht of an entirely different class to the majority of 'plastic fantastic Ikea built' charter yachts we have encountered and she provided a real sense of stability to the non sailors in the party. All in all we had an excellent time again and I would have no hesitation in recommending Delphinus as your charter yacht choice in Croatia!"   Collin & Helen Gibson:  June 2022
Our time on Delphinus yacht with Rob can be summed up as life-changing. Rob is nothing short of incredible, it is amazing that he is able to do it all and then some! Rob’s demeanor can be described as a calming presence always ready for fun and adventure. At any given time, Rob was willing to show Julia and I the ropes regarding sailing and mooring. We were able to explore Croatia in a way that only a native knows, finding secluded bays and good friends. To say this would be a once in a lifetime trip would be wrong, Rob has found life long customers in Julia and I.   Julia & Sean Kennidy:  July 2022
Thanks very much for looking after us so well, we all had a great time. For me the highlight was to have a great sail without the responsibility of having to skipper the boat. I know everyone had tremendous confidence in your ability as a skipper which enabled us to sail on some pretty windy days knowing we were in your very capable hands. And your excellent lunches and the barbecue were probably better than the food we had onshore - well done! Your "complete package" including transfers, food, drinks, mooring fees etc was a step up from the flotilla sailing we have done on previous occasions, much appreciated.   Richard & Denis Belton:  September 2022
Thanks Rob, for a rather special week cruising the Croatian coast from Dubrovnik. Delphinus is a lovely boat. I had no idea that two people could so easily sail a 50 footer – and I do not want to go on a big yacht again that does not have an electric winch ! As you came to quickly realise, Chris does not “do” sailing, but your calm and ultra competent approach meant that she felt safe and comfortable with just you and I doing the handling. A special thanks for all the lovely food, and for including collection to and from the airport, which was a wonderful touch. The supplementary informal theory advice was very welcome too.   Tony & Chris Lewis
For anyone who has never sailed, I can think of no better introduction than a week aboard Delphinus - you'll love it. For those that can sail but have yet to explore Southern Dalmatia - you'll love it.   Mike Hobin
Dear Rob, Thank you for an amazing holiday aboard Delphinus, we had such a varied, interesting and relaxed week sailing with you, every day just kept getting better! Matt especially loved crewing and helming in 20knots of wind, Ellie enjoyed the magical anchorage in quiet hidden coves and in contrast, her paddle board water ski - I never thought that was possible! I loved the early morning paddle boarding followed by one of many Chef Specials - Burcher Muesli. Delphinus is a boat with quarter and charm, loved and well cared for by Rob. We immediately felt welcomed and at home and appreciated Rob's calm and experienced helming. Totally flexible to our requests, willing to teach and involve us in sailing as much as we wanted but also happy for us to sit back and be crewed. If you want a holiday with variety, stunning landscapes, interesting towns, quiet coves and great food, I recommend Delphinus Yachting.   Anna Hardy
I would just like to thank you formally for the fabulous week my wife and I had on you beautiful yacht. To personally collect us from the airport was a nice touch. The boat has been fitted out really well and accommodated us in style. Your knowledge of the area, willingness to share your passion for the skills of navigation and boatmanship were very much appreciated. You took us to some very interesting places around the Dalmatian Isles. Korčula was a favourite and that seafood meal we had at the beautiful Bota Sare in Mali Ston was very special. Nice touch that not only did we drink the owner’s own wine but that he then drove us back to the boat! You seem to have thought of everything, including the weather. We hope to see you again next year, if not before.   Paul & Mora Whitelock
Thanks again for a great course a couple of weeks ago. Your instructing and hosting were both first class!   Martin Newman
I wish to say how great Rob is as an instructor. He has a wonderfully calm manner and is great fun. He has a real depth of knowledge and we were able to have really good conversations about different methods to approach a situation. He is an instructor who coaxes the best out of people, such that we stand a better chance of remembering the techniques he teaches.   Ian Watson
... a big thank you for last weekend. Your calm, professional expert tuition was greatly appreciated. Plus you always went the extra mile from night sails, to sail reefing to ensuring we understood some of the finer points you were showing us.   Dan Hatfield
I have to say big thanks to Rob whose expertise as well as experience shared with me will put my future sailing to a whole new level.   Djoka Janjusevic
Probably one of the best experiences of my life. Rob our super Skipper was an amazing teacher and made the entire experience fun and educational. We had such a brilliant time. We felt incredibly safe. Laughed a great deal and also learnt so much! I'm hooked! Thank you   Jacqueline Paul
Fabulous time, learned Loads and Really sound people. Rob was very reactive to exactly what we wanted to learn and gave everyone a go - at the same time as remaining amazingly calm! Cannot recommend more highly.   Sue McGuffie
The Instructor was outstanding- helpful, practical with excellent communication skills, unflappable, approachable and social. Course was extremely well run with excellent range of visual aids, handouts and demo’s. A great week!   Colin Gibson
I must give you credit for the way you operate both as a skipper and a tutor and the immeasurable patience you demonstrate. I shall always look forward to a sail with you.   Robbie Matthews
Thanks for the great time we have had, and I have really enjoyed it and really appreciated your efforts! I really liked your teaching style and maybe I am not an expert in yachting lessons, but I have been professionally instructing kiteboarding, as well as advising, evaluating and training many instructors and as a manager dealing with other water related sports instructors and could place you among the top!   Alex Kowalik
I’m just writing to thank you for the amazing couple of days you gave us the week before last. My confidence in skippering Piper has soared and I am totally gobsmacked as to what you achieved with Ros. For someone who was frankly very nervous even about going out on the boat she is now enthusiastically talking about sailing and blocking out weekends on our calendar for going down to Shotley. This is entirely down to you making her feel comfortable in what to her was a totally alien environment and giving her the confidence, knowledge, tools and techniques to feel she was part of the boat.   Stuart Robinson
A big thank you for a fantastic course. As a novice, I really welcomed Rob’s approach. He instals confidence in you and pushes you on. Haven’t learnt so much or been so relaxed in ages!   Christine McGuire
Thank you for being such a good teacher. You have saved my life re three point turns.   Mark Matthews
Excellent instructor. Learned how to do things in a way my brain likes to learn!   Cindy Schofield
I had a great time with good company and first class instruction from Rob really made it an enjoyable learning experience, I learnt a lot and now much more confident when sailing.   Alan Breakwell
Having been on sail training courses before I was a little apprehensive because, in my view, the quality of instructors varies greatly. I needn’t have worried because not only is Rob a great instructor from a technical perspective he has exceptional interpersonal skills that enable him to juggle three students with vastly different backgrounds and learning objectives into a coherent, motivated and good-humoured team.   Bob Stamp
Huge praises to our Instructor Rob who’s energy and enthusiasm made the course informative and thoroughly enjoyable. He also has the patience and ability to communicate with all levels on board and through ingenious self-made props and sketches can demonstrate and explain even the unexplainable!!! Rob’s catering is not bad either!   Mike Horn
From the moment Rob collected us from the airport to the complimentary return transfer we were treated to five star service all the way. Having been used to bareboat charter and syndicate sailing the benefits of having everything organised, provisioned and preloaded onto the boat cannot be overestimated to provide for that immediate holiday feeling! Delphinus is a spacious and comfortable yacht and is large enough for it to never feel crowded. She sails beautifully and is very well equipped. The itinerary was flexible and varied between quayside and anchorage moorings in stunningly beautiful locations. Rob was there to assist and calmly advise when needed but allowed experienced sailors to get involved or to relax as desired. The overall package is great value and of extremely high quality. Overall we had a fabulous time, in a beautiful country on a stunning yacht with a relaxed, capable and personable host which we would 100% recommend - in fact we’ve already booked for next year!   Colin & Helen Gibson
Thank you Rob for a superb week on your beautiful yacht. We had a lovely week of weather for swimming and seeing the coast, even though the winds were either too strong, too weak or in the wrong direction some of the time. However, the sailing was great when the wind was favourable. Excellent lunches in wonderful bays, swimming and attempting to paddle board (not very successfully) were great fun. The overnight moorings were in very picturesque surroundings adjoining or near to restaurants with superb fresh fish and local produce. Your barbecue on one evening was great. The on-board catering was magnificent and you always seemed to anticipate when beer and wine were needed! Your refresher on knots was very helpful. Your company was very welcome but at the same time, you often kept a low profile allowing us to feel that there were only the four of us on board. Once again, many thanks for a first-class week, we all loved it. Nicky and Terry , Corrie and Clive.

Rob, thank you so much for providing such an enjoyable, relaxed and fun-filled day out. We greatly enjoyed the swim stops, exploring islands and caves and a trip in the tender. Delphinus, your boat, was a wonderful platform for your gracious, generous and under-stated hospitality.   Cordelia & Caleb Raywood:  June 2024

  • BLOG ON SAILING AND YACHT CHARTER IN CROATIA

When it comes to skippered yacht charters in Croatia, you’re embarking on an unforgettable maritime adventure. This unique charter type allows you to rent a boat while enlisting the services of a seasoned skipper to steer your voyage . Whether you’re a novice with minimal sailing experience , a seasoned sailor in need of a carefree vacation , or simply someone eager to explore new sailing territories with confidence , a skippered yacht charter is the ideal choice for you.

Why Choose Skippered Yacht Charter?

The advantages of opting for a skippered yacht charter are manifold . With a skipper at the helm, you and your companions can revel in a hassle-free vacation , free from the stress of navigating the seas. Your skipper’s local expertise ensures you discover the most picturesque anchorages, tranquil bays, top-notch restaurants, vibrant nightlife spots, and thrilling activities, enhancing your overall experience.

For those new to sailing, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire sailing skills , while seasoned sailors can refine their existing knowledge .

Our selection process for skippers is meticulous, ensuring they possess not only impeccable sailing and navigational skills but also a friendly demeanor and in-depth knowledge of the region’s history, geography, culture, and people.

Skippered yacht charter Croatia

Who are our Skippers?

Our skippers are passionate about the sea and sailing , registered professionals recognized by the authorities . Many of them honed their sailing skills from a young age in sailing clubs. Fluent in English and often other languages like Italian, Russian, or French, they bring a multicultural touch to your journey. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they all share an unwavering love for the sea .

How much does the Skippered Yacht Charter cost?

The cost of a skippered yacht charter consists of the bareboat yacht charter fee plus the skipper’s fee and provision costs for the skipper’s meals . The skipper’s fee is paid directly on-site during the check-in process. Expect a daily rate of €180 or a weekly rate of €1,260 for your skipper’s services. You are responsible for providing three meals per day for your skipper , along with ample refreshments .

Other expenses, including boat rental, mooring fees, and fuel costs, remain consistent with bareboat yacht charters. Refer to our “ Bareboat Yacht Charter in Croatia ” for a detailed breakdown of these expenses.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Your skipper’s primary responsibilities encompass ensuring your safety and an enjoyable vacation . They will expertly navigate the yacht, return it undamaged, and offer recommendations based on their local knowledge. Your preferences are paramount unless weather conditions necessitate adjustments to the itinerary.

As for your obligations towards the skipper , provision for three daily meals and accommodations must be made. We recommend choosing a boat with sufficient berths to accommodate both your party and the skipper comfortably . Additionally, treat your skipper with respect , and d on’t expect them to handle cooking, dishwashing, or general cleaning . If these services are required, consider hiring a hostess along with the skipper.

Assistance during mooring , especially in adverse weather conditions, is appreciated and contributes to a safer voyage.

Security deposit and Skippered Yacht Charter

You are obliged to leave the security deposit even if you hire a professional skipper; you will not be liable for the potential damage that occurred due to the navigation but for the damages caused by you or your party . Since in Croatia the naval authority verified crew lists (list of all the people onboard) are mandatory for all charter boats (each exchange of the crew should be reported), it should never be a question of who is responsible for certain damage. The person marked as a skipper on the crew list bears all the responsibility for the damage caused due to the navigation. You and your party will be responsible only for the damages that you cause: e.g. broken window, burns in the kitchen, blocked toilet, lost or damaged dinghy or motor (if you used it yourself) and similar . Since all the skippers we work with have the skipper’s insurance policy which covers their liability up you shouldn’t worry about the possible charge for the damage caused by the skipper since none has any interest in doing so.

Valuable Tips for Your Skippered Yacht Charter in Croatia

For a seamless experience , here are some tips to consider :

  • Initiate a discussion with your skipper on day one to plan your itinerary , preferences, and expectations.
  • Be r ealistic about distances between islands ; sailboats are not high-speed vessels.
  • Understand that weather conditions may necessitate itinerary adjustments for safety.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues during your trip , and we’ll find a solution.
  • Consider a larger boat for a more comfortable experience with a larger group , and explore o vernight mooring options in marinas for enhanced facilities and entertainment .

First day on skippered yacht charter in Croatia

Tipping your skipper

Tipping is a common practice in the hospitality industry in Croatia yet not obligatory. It is customary though not obligatory to tip your skipper in the end of your charter. The typical tip amounts 5-15% of the total charter cost . Your budget and satisfaction should guide your tipping decision. More about tipping etiquette on charter you can read on our blog post here .

Skippered Yacht Charter in Croatia

A skippered charter is another popular form of yacht charter in Croatia that involves hiring a professional skipper to take care of all navigational aspects on the yacht. This type of charter holiday is ideal for clients who don’t possess a valid sailing license, who are somewhat insecure about their nautical skills or for those who would simply like to have a reliable captain at hand during their cruise. Since most skippers have years, even decades, of experience in charter industry, they are familiar with almost any of the boat types, which ensures the utmost level of safety for you and the rest of the crew members. Skippers also have excellent knowledge of the Croatian waters so apart from handling all navigational aspects of sailing, a skipper will recommend you lovely secluded anchorages and sailing spots off the beaten path that elude the real Mediterranean charm. Of course, if you have any personal preferences regarding the sailing route or you have a certain cruising area in mind that you wish to explore, you can discuss your ideas with the skipper. In case there are children on board, the skipper will gladly adjust the itinerary. Skippers’ in depth local knowledge extends to the best mooring places, restaurants and other local attractions as well, which can enrich your holiday and help you experience the Adriatic coast in an entirely unique and authentic way. Ultimately, having a professional skipper onboard means that he is fully responsible for the safety of the yacht and all crew members on board so you can completely relax and be at ease during your charter holiday, allowing you to cherish every moment of your sailing experience in Croatia. In addition to having a skipper on board, it is also possible to hire a hostess, whose main tasks include helping you keep the yacht clean and preparing simple meals for you while on board. However, it is important to bear in mind that you should provide both a skipper and a hostess a separate cabin or a berth on the yacht as well proper daily meals. Therefore, when booking a yacht it is advisable to ensure that the boat is big enough for both the crew and the skipper so you can have plenty of privacy while on board. A skipper can also come handy when it comes to mooring, especially in the peak of season when marinas and ports tend to be overcrowded so he can advise you when to head back to marina on time. In case you don’t manage to find a berth at the marina, a skipper can suggest alternative ports where you can find a mooring. On occasions when you wish to anchor out for the night, a skipper can guide you to a safe anchoring site, sheltered from the local winds and with a sea bed that matches the anchor. If you don’t want to rely on your own nautical skills and wish to have a carefree, relaxing holiday at sea and yet enjoy beguiling landscapes of the splendid Adriatic coast, then there is no better way to achieve that than by choosing a skippered yacht charter in Croatia.

In summer there are many other boats around you to help you in case you need it, the sea is calmer and the temperatures are high.

Bareboat Yacht Charter in Croatia for Your Sailing Holidays!

Just think of sailing away with your family and friends in complete freedom. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? As long as you are a reasonably experienced sailor and you have an adequate (international) skipper’s license, you can charter one of our boats without a skipper and enjoy sailing by yourself.

What is a bareboat charter?

In the bareboat charter , you as the skipper take full responsibility for the chartered boat and its crew members. Regardless of its name, a bareboat charter does not come empty or bare. Instead, the boat will be fully loaded with everything you need for a safe and comfortable sailing vacation.

Even though the skipper is the only person in charge of the boat, every other crew member should take some part in responsibility to have a safe and comfortable vacation. It is difficult for one person to take care of the navigation and make sure that everything else on board runs smoothly. Everybody on board should have their tasks and obligations and this is what makes the bareboat charter quite a unique experience in teamwork as well.

What are bareboat charter requirements in Croatia?

According to Croatian maritime law, you must have a permit issued by the state government of the country you are coming from in order to operate a pleasure vessel. Furthermore necessary is the VHF license. Check valid sailing licenses in Croatia !

Reasons to go for Bareboat Yacht Charter in Croatia

bareboat-yacht-charter-services.jpg

After discussing how bareboat yacht charters actually work, it is time to discuss why you should choose a bareboat charter in Croatia for your next vacation.

If you have a valid international skippers license, the facts listed below should help you make up your mind:

  • You will enjoy a private yacht Although our skippers are chosen both for their professional skills and for their people skills, most people prefer to have their privacy onboard a yacht. Why settle just for cabins when you can have the boat all for yourself!? You can consider it as your own piece of paradise in which you are surrounded only by your family and friends. As much as yachts can be large, they are tiny compared to the outdoors and the crew will spend a lot of time together socialising, swimming, eating and whatever they are planning on doing. If you would like to share that time only with your loved ones, the bareboat charter is the way to go.
  • You will spend less money In the bareboat charter, you are not paying for the skipper’s fee and for his food and drinks or taking him along to the restaurants that you are enjoying. So, if you are able to sail a yacht yourself and you feel confident in finding your way in the sailing area, a bareboat yacht charter will be easier in your pocket. If you are wondering   how the charter pricing work we have you covered.
  • Your family and friends can serve as the "crew". If you are looking into bareboat charters you probably like to take the helm yourself and have the full adventure and experience of a sailing holiday. The journey will be much more memorable than any typical holiday vacation because of the various roles it offers. There is no doubt that sailing together as a family or a group of friends will give you thousands of incredible memories to cherish for life. You will create a stronger bond by assigning roles and tasks to handle while sailing to the next exciting destination to explore.
  • You can sail at your own pace One of the biggest advantages of hiring a bareboat yacht charter is that you can explore the Croatian coast and islands at your own will. It will give you the freedom of sailing slowly; discovering hidden beaches and bays and snorkelling at all the best spots for as long as you want. Of course, most of these things can also be agreed with a skipper but being able to act spontaneously is an additional bonus. It will be exciting for you to sail a yacht yourself since it really builds up your confidence and voyage experience.
  • Croatia offers the largest selection of bareboat yachts If you have decided to rent a bareboat, Croatia is the place to go. With roughly 4.000 yachts to offer it is the world's main charter destination. With an international skippers license the list of yachts available to you is almost endless, from sailboats over catamarans to   motor yachts all are just a click away. Just contact us and we will find the perfect bareboat yacht for you or browse through our vast selection and pick a yacht for yourself.
  • The Adriatic sea in Croatia is easy to navigate With over 1000   islands in Croatia the sailing distances when island hopping can be really short if you want and often you do not have to cross more than 10 nautical miles to get to the next exciting destination. On top of that, the nautical infrastructure in Croatia is amazing and it offers an abundance of marinas , safe town ports and anchorages with buoys to spend your nights. The mild weather and pleasant wind on the Adriatic Sea will further make your navigation in Croatia a joy to remember.

Yachting in Croatia at its finest

In case you decide to spend your holiday in a boat and explore famous Croatian islands and cities such as Dubrovnik and Split, you are at the right place. With roughly 3.000 yachts ranging from single cabin boats to 6 cabins catamarans, Croatia Yachting is the best charter company in Croatia !

Croatia Yachting will make it simple for you by providing all the necessary nautical information: we will recommend   the itinerary , best   destinations and   restaurants to visit . All you need to bring with you are the crew and the provisioning. Even the   provisioning can be made easier for you as we can deliver the ordered items to the chartered yacht before your check-in.

Some Final Words

Well, these are more or less all the facts that speak for a bareboat yacht charter in Croatia to deliver a joyful experience on your sailing vacation. With our service, you’ll be safe and sound, your desired yacht will be in perfect sailing condition. Just   give us a call or send an e-mail and we’ll make sure you have the best possible sailing vacation!

Croya Charter Show Coming to Split Soon

Lauren Simmonds

September 6, 2024

croya charter show

September the 6th, 2024 – From October the 4th to the 6th, the beautiful city of Split will host the first CROYA Charter Show, a specialised international exhibition of crewed yachts.

This prestigious business event (B2B) will allow charter agents from all over the world to observe some of the most luxurious yachts available for charter in Croatia in one place first time ever. The only yachts that will be presented are those with permanent crews and which range from 20 to 55 metres in length. They will be motor yachts, sailboats, motor-sails, gulets, and luxury catamarans over 15 metres.

Local experts will also have the opportunity to showcase their charter operations and strengthen their connections with international clients. The vessels will be displayed on Split’s Zapadna obala.

Around 100 foreign charter agents are expected to attend the first CROYA Charter Show, where they will be introduced to a fleet of about 50 luxury yachts available for charter in this country. There will also be educational seminars on the best sailing routes, as well as entertainment programmes featuring chefs and crew members.

“This top-tier event will offer our industry colleagues a unique opportunity to gain real insight into the Croatian luxury yacht market and the exceptional nautical destinations along our coast,” emphasised Stipe Petričević, president of CROYA, the event organiser. This association will bring together experts from yacht charter companies and maritime agencies to contribute their extensive experience and knowledge to the development of the most prestigious segment of Croatia’s nautical tourism.

Croatia has one of the largest charter fleets in the entire world, but the offer of luxury crewed yachts is much smaller. This is a niche market for high spending guests, who charter vessels through agents. Introducing the CROYA Charter Show and Split to the map of charter yacht shows is crucial for positioning the Croatian coastline as an elite yachting destination for wealthier clientele.

“Participants will have the opportunity to visit and assess a wide range of vessels, meet captains and crews, and taste the gastronomy aboard the yachts. In other words, they will be able to form their own informed opinions about the yachts and the destination itself, which is invaluable when choosing vessels for charter guests. It will also be an excellent opportunity for luxury vessel product and service providers to present themselves to owners, agents, and captains, as well as other foreign visitors, professionals in the sector,” noted Maja Ban, a member of the show’s organising committee.

The CROYA Charter Show is being held as part of Split’s Sailing Festival, under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, in partnership with the Croatian Tourist Board. Other partners in the project include the City of Split, the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, the Split Tourist Board, and the Port Authority of Split-Dalmatia County.
