Meet the Joyway Dragonflite 95 a new plug and play 950mm Sailboat designed by RC sailors expressly for racing in all conditions This RC sailboat project follows on the success of the Joysway Dragon Force RG65. This new restricted class is taking the RC sailing community by storm. This reasonably priced one design RC sailboat comes with every thing necessary to have you on the water in a couple of hours time. This kit requires minimal assembly and is the perfect starter boat for the individual or club that wants to build a competitive racing fleet. This boat was designed by a crack team of hard core RC sailors looking to mass produce a high performance competitive entry level boat that would be fun to sail in a variety of conditions.

This boat can be campaigned in the newly established DF95 restricted class which has strict rules limiting modifications. The best thing about this design is that no modifications are necessary to have a great performing sailboat.

The new V2 Dragon flite 95 is the next logical step in providing a high performance, competition yacht at a fraction of the price of normal models in the 1 metre class. This yacht is unique in concept from nearly every aspect. The sleek and narrow hull is designed to cut through the water with minimum drag. The fin is moulded from ultra-rigid carbon fibre to provide the correct balance of low drag and high strength. Above deck, the entire sail rig has been optimised through careful testing for both area & shape and the sails are made from durable Mylar with all necessary re-inforcements. The unusual ‘kick’ in the main boom is designed to prevent it dragging in the water at extreme lean ngles.

The kit includes a high power sail servo and a metal-geared servo for steering.

Bancroft is pleased to offer the world-renown DragonFlite 95 V2 sailing yacht, a model perfectly suited to either activity. Manufactured by Joysway Model Co., it’s now available for sale through Motion RC!

Available in both PNP (no transmitter or receiver) and RTR (includes transmitter and receiver) versions, these models arrive highly prefabricated and ready for final assembly and rigging.

V2 improvements include a new, improved sail winch servo and a revised boat stand that allows both vertical or horizontal securement of the model for convenient storage, transport, and maintenance.

Advice on Batteries

For those skippers who choose to use 4xAA Rechargeable NiMH batteries in the boat, they will only charge to 1.2v per cell, so 4x1.2 = 4.8v max and discharges to lower voltage with use, and sometimes will affect your Range because of this. Also, your Rudder or Sail winch may begin to operate with a jitter when at minimum level. So many have upgraded to the LiFe 6.6v 850 mAh battery which maintains voltage all day, giving consistent range and operation.

Also 4xAA NiMH Batteries weigh approx. 90 to 100 grams, and the Life battery is approx. 56 grams and as low as 47 grams, where DF rules specify minimum battery weight is 45 grams.

Tip and Hints

• 1st DF95 Inspection: What to expect
• Assembling your new version vang and main boom
• Building your DF95  “B” rig video  – Complete assembly video on correctly assembling your B Rig ( or other rig kits)
• Don’t glue your masthead crane , or mast stub when you assemble your rigs! Accidents happen and if you happen to break  one of the pieces they are far less to replace as individual replacement pieces than replacing the entire mast assembly! ( Yes they are available individually)
• Check the metal eyelets & sheet   rings for burrs, or rough edges! Typically they are OK,  but in a mass produced boat they may need a little smoothing with either fine sanding sticks or strips of emery cloth
• The stock sails  ( A,B,C, & D) sometimes get the installed wire stuck in the  jib luff tape. The wire can be worked out of these if you take your time and are careful! The jib luff wire should move freely inside the luff of the sail for full efficiency
• Take a second and tie off your Bung plug to the back stay hook, so it doesn’t get lost! Simply punch a hole in the flat end and run a bit of line through it!
• Add a bit of foam  in between the lower crossbars  on your stand so that the weight of the boat rests on the foam when you store it! . These boats are pretty tough, but over time the weight of the boat can warp the bottom, and add undue stress to the bottom of the hull and keel assembly box!
• If you ever plan on sailing in regattas across the country , save both your shipping and retail box for future use ! You can preship your boat to your hotel via FedEx or UPS , eliminating the need to check it in as baggage, and travel light!
• If your rudder is loose. Carefully drill out the two black plastic pieces to allow for the aluminum tube to be glued in place. The ID for the tube and the OD for the rudder post are one in the same. The tubing is by K & S Precision Metals.   They label it as  Stock # 9309    RD. Alum Tube   3/16 x 0.035   (4.76mm x 0.889mm)

Trimaran superyachts Galaxy and Galaxy of Happiness delivered

The 53 metre trimaran superyachts Galaxy and Galaxy of Happiness have been delivered to their new owners in the UAE, Latvian yard Latitude Yachts has announced.

The superyacht pair were launched in Riga on May 10 and both went on to reach their designed top speed of 30 knots on their sea trials.

Their futuristic design and sleek silver exteriors by Jean-Jacques Coste , which Latitude Yachts described as “resembling a spacecraft from Hollywood blockbusters”, call to mind other notable multihull superyachts , such as  Adastra  — the futuristic trimaran from McConaghy Boats  — and current round-the-world record holder Ady Gil .

The interiors were designed by Latitude Yachts and Jean-Jacques Coste and feature an owner’s cabin and two guest cabins.

Speaking in May, Valdis Irbe, co-owner of Latitude Yachts, said: “This was a great challenge for me and I was brave enough to agree to bring this project to life.

“I would like to thank the customer for giving his credence and opportunity to carry out this project of immense complexity. They have no analogues in size – they are the biggest trimarans in the world.”

This claim is somewhat debatable, however, as Australian yard North West Bay Ships launched a 61.4m trimaran White Rabbit Echo in 2005.

Latitude Yachts' 53m trimaran project has been under development for nearly 30 months and the dual launch propels the Latvian yard into the superyacht spotlight, although they do not currently plan to display the trimarans at any upcoming boat shows.

Founded in 2006, the yard was previously best known for building five 60 metre restaurant boats that are based in Moscow.

Built from a GRP and carbonfibre composite, the new Latitude trimarans are propelled by twin 2,600hp engines. Latitude Yachts adds that they are expecting an imminent order for a further two 53m trimarans that will also be used in the UAE.
