just looking for some reviews for the yacht club on the Grandiosa.

we are sailing April and this is our 3rd MSC cruise, have done aurea suites on the preziosa and the seaside but never yacht club

we will have our teenage girls with us ( 15 and 16) and will be sharing the yacht club suite- I could have booked a 2room suite for us but not yacht club and wanted to try that experience .

any info/ reviews for this would be appreciated

Four adult sized people in a Deluxe Suite will be close but not bad.  MSC is reclassifying some of the Aurea Duplex suites as Yacht Club which would give more space, a second bathroom and a private hot tub on the balcony but also gets Yacht Club benefits.  I'm not sure on which sailings this will become effective but there are reports here that people who booked certain ones as Aurea are seeing Yacht Club printed on their e-tickets.  Some Duplex cabins are remaining Aurea.

Yes, size of bed for pax 3&4 would be my concern.  Doesn't look like that ship for YC has any pullmans, just double sofa bed.

Yes im pretty sure you are right, only double sofa beds....my kids aren't big people at all but yes concerns me too...if any one has any photos of the sofa bed out (particularly the grandiosa yacht club room) that would be great 🤔

Just back off Grandiosa in the YC. The deluxe cabin is wider than other YC cabins I have been in but does not have the room divider between the bed and bed settee. It is a lovely sized and well planned cabin but the bathroom is smaller than Divina and Pretziosa so that may be an issue. The wardrobe area is fine for 2 adults but there is plenty of drawer space. When I booked the cruise last year the duplex suites were not available for the YC, perhaps it may be an option for you now.

I really liked Grandiosa, loads of things going on and a really beautiful ship, enjoy your cruise.

Thankyou, room divider is no problem and we have sailed the preziosa and seaside , bathroom was nice but no huge so that ok. We did have 2 room suites on previous cruises( 1bed and lounge) so it may be a bit squishy for us- I suppose I am just hoping YC is worth being a little cramped!!

I did try to see if any duplex suites with YC were available but not for our cruise...

I would love to hear from someone that has sailed on grandiosa in the yacht club too. ..i hope someone on this board sails soon.

We are sailing in May and are looking forward to it. Our friends sailed last week and loved it. Said they were treated like VIPs from the moment they were in port and nothing was too much trouble.

Just back from the MSC Grandiosa. I had an inner Yacht Club cabin and the room was enough for two. I use the cabin for sleeping and changing cloth. Most of the time we were outside the cabin. The YC lounge and the restaurant was excellent.

The weather was a little too chill to linger on deck 19 but the price was low in January.

I love the butler service around the ship. Especially when we were escorted to the main theater and the Cirque du Soleil. The butlers have direct access to the entrances.

  • Was the new rules about the mini bar in action? (price now on certain items + choice of 1 full size bottle)
  • Which cirque show did you see? Did you like it? Did YC guests get any sort of preferred seating?
  • Did the main theater shows have a section for YC?
  • Any stand out dishes in the YC?
  • Did you take any MSC tours in port?

Any other YC specific tips are appreciated 🙂  we sail next month - looking forward too it. Although nervous now and hoping coronavirus doesnt cause any ship issues.

1 hour ago, floridian1 said: Thank you! Was the new rules about the mini bar in action? (price now on certain items + choice of 1 full size bottle) The minibar is fully stock when we first enter the cabin. All items are complementery ( free of charge ) the first pick. They will charge you the second pick. We didn't use the minibar. Our cabin was on deck 16 and the YC bar was just around the corner so why bother the minibar. And also 1 full bottle free; Whisky, Champagne and others. We picked the Champagne and took it home. You can always drink free Champagne at the Champagne bar. Which cirque show did you see? Did you like it? Did YC guests get any sort of preferred seating? We went to the Cosmos show. It was spectacular. We didn't see the other show. A tip, take your preferred cocktail from the YC bar. The cocktails at the show was not so good. limited choice and very sober. Every seat has a good view on the show but I would avoid the first  two rows because your view will be a little below the stage. I think YC don't get preferred seating. Did the main theater shows have a section for YC? No, just show up 15-20 min before time. Plenty seats avaiable. The 21:15 show is fully packed every day. Any stand out dishes in the YC? I like the beef tournedos. It was the best I ever ate. And of course the lobster tails. 🙂 Did you take any MSC tours in port? We are familiar with the itinerary so no MSC tours. Most of the time we just walk around the ports. MSC Grandiosa went to Toulon instead of Marseille because there was a mayor strike planned in Marseille that day. It was a welcome change because Toulon was unknown to us.

The service is excellent in the YC. Every day they bring snacks to your cabin and small chocolates on your pillows. Once you do YC you will never go back, not even Aurea. 🙂

Thanks so much for all the info! Could you explain the mini bar rules a bit further...agreed with the bar just there not a big deal...but kids may just want to grab a soft drink when they want? Also the 1 bottle thing if i got a bottle of gin can i just grab tonic from mini bar anytime? I know it sounds a little precious! Just be nice to know

Thanks again

The butler will explain how about the minibar and give you a list of choices about the free bottle. I know that the first grap is free.

You can empty the minibar on the first day and restock it yourself with soda cans from the YC bar. That way you are sure everything is free.

Like I said why bother the minibar if you can order MSC signature cocktails, Johnny Walker Black label , Cognac VSOP etc from the YC bar for free. Or call the butler and bring the Gin Tonic to your cabin.

During the 7-day cruise I didn't even open the minibar except for taking a picture.

Enjoy your stay in the YC lounge.

I think the minibar question is answered here at 2:40 :

I do not speak french, and english is not my first language, but if i understand correct,

only the replacement of the Toblerone, Pringles and nuts are charged.

The beverages are free.

This confusion over the mini bar seems to continue......

The important thing from your picture is that there is a bottle of FeverTree tonic .  If you want a really good G&T you might want to bring that bottle with you to the YC bar – when the bartender starts to ruin your G&T with the 'hose,' stop him and offer your bottle of good tonic.

1,000+ Club

Hi  Bellissima YC is the old style with miniatures and snacks , replenished as you use them free of charge.

Honestly, not too worried...we are in suite 16009, so I’m sur I can c

”crawl” down to the bar..lol

Just amuses me there’s so many conflicting stories

The fingerfoods in the lounge is so good that I tried them every day, even multiple times a day. I'm always so full so no need to snack from the frigde. So much choices there.

I had cabin 16006 and took the emergency exit to the bar. Just around the corner. 🙂

We’re on the Grandiosa in April and it seems that this ship is the only one with the mini bar change. Of course MSC has not updated their website to reflect any changes with the program. From what I have read over the last few months one word that seems to define this cruise line is “inconsistent”. 😊 With that said we’re still looking forward to the cruise.

Can't decide! Grandiosa or Seaview - Oct. or Dec.!

Hi everyone - hoping some insight here can help us decide. We are between two cruises. We are 2 adults in our mid-40s, no kids. This will be our 5th cruise and 3rd time to Europe. We've traveled on land to London, Paris and Amsterdam and cruised the Baltic region (Scandinavia and Russia).

Cruise #1: MSC Seaview, leaving Rome on 10/23/19

Ports (6) - No sea days: Cannes, France; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Barcelona, Spain; Ajaccio, Corsica, France; Genoa, Italy; La Spezia, Italy

Cruise #2: MSC Grandiosa, leaving Rome on 12/08/19

Ports (5) - 1 sea day: Palermo, Sicily, Italy; Valletta, Malta; Barcelona, Spain; Marseille, France; Genoa, Italy

We are torn between wanting the nice new Grandiosa (and Cirque de Soleil!) and the possibly better weather of the Seaview itinerary. I love both itineraries, but am leaning toward Cruise #1 in October due to hitting La Spezia (Cinque Terre). I should mention that the MSC Divina also sails in Oct but it wasn't as appealing to us as the other ships.

Thoughts?? HALP! LOL

Seaview gets my vote, better itinerary and better weather...Cinque Terre is stunning!

Thanks! Honestly, I think I'm being lured by the fancy newer ship and Cirque du Soleil. Funny too, because these trips are so busy that at night we really just like dinner, hot tub, and sleep!

Wondering about how nice the Seaview is however...it is fairly new, yes?

2 minutes ago, traveltripper said: Wondering about how nice the Seaview is however...it is fairly new, yes?

Yes, less than a year!

I checked Weather Underground, temps do look a lot nicer in Oct. Anyone else have thoughts on the topic or itinerary?

Just found a Grandiosa trip on 11/24/19. Think the weather is still better in Oct.? We are in Denver so would like to avoid cold. And by cold, I mean we are at a high of 32 today. BRRR.

The itinerary may not be as good. Same as the Dec. itinerary:

CruiseIreland

CruiseIreland

I would choose Seaview for the following reasons:

1. Sail earlier, better weather, calmer seas(usually)

2. No sea days, which are, to me, a bit of  a waste, and

3. 6 ports rather than 5. You can always stay onboard if you're inclined.

:classic_biggrin:

I did the Seaview cruise last November and I will be on Grandiosa this year on December. I dont care about the weather because November and December are almost the same here in the Mediterranean. Book the cruise that you think is right for you!

Very good points. Honestly, it's not like we don't have Cirque du Soleil in our home city. And it's not like we haven't seen it in Las Vegas, Nevada. I get sea sick and wear the patch. But I still like calmer seas. I agree on sea days. Although sometimes I think they are a nice break. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.

Hi! How did you like the Seaview? Pretty busy itinerary, huh? Curious how you liked the ports and if you have any words of wisdom or caution.

:classic_wink:

But the rest of the itinerary is still really good:

•  we're starting/ending in Barcelona and spending several days there pre-cruise [to cover jet lag, lost bags, and sightseeing];

•  Ajaccio, Corsica , ship's excursion Discover the Calanques ;

•  Genoa , ship's excursion Genoa & Palazzo del Principe , then DIY in Genoa to go inside the Cathedral and Aquarium;

•   La Spezia , as mentioned ship's excursion  Lucca & Wine Tasting at Montecarlo, then DIY walk around La Spezia;

•   Civitavecchia , not going to kill ourselves trying to get to Rome, instead ship's excursion  Tuscania and Tarquinia , followed by DIY walk around Civitavecchia;

•   Cannes , DIY train to Antibes and DIY walk around Cannes;

•   Palma de Mallorca , DIY rental car to Valldemossa, Miramar, Son Marroig, Deia, Robert Graves Museum, Soller, and Fornalutx [as suggested in Cruise Critic Ports of Call forum];

•   Barcelona , disembarkation and flight home.

[All the 'DIY walks' are Rick Steves walking tours from his Italy and Provence books]

I usually spend all my birthday on board in the Yacht club of the Msc ship and the Seaview is very nice ship! Port calls are good and very easy to visit on your own. Shows were nice but I do prefere the cirque du soleil shows and this is why my next cruise will be on thd Grandiosa...

Fostelo

I picked the seaview in October then im doing Grandiosa the following april 😊

Hi Hostjazzbeau: I love your plans/itinerary. We are starting in Rome. Similar to you, we plan on spending a few days there, then boarding the ship.

We rarely do the ship excursions and really love doing Rick Steves' walks. Cinque Terre is a big deal for me so I'd want to hike between the towns and train around. I read somewhere that you can get a day pass and take the train often.

To the others that posted, yeah, Cirque du Soleil is a big deal to me, but I don't pay this kind of money to do that when I can see it in my hometown or close by. Also, I'm usually so tired from touring the cities that watching a show won't be fun for me. That said, I'm jealous for those booked on the Grandiosa! I'm also wary of cruising in December. We live in snowy Colorado and really really don't want cold weather. Have fun everyone!

I sailed seaview last july for 2 weeks round the med and honestly you will love this ship it’s probably the best ship I’ve sailed, last year seaview was sailing the same itinerary as the Grandiosa one , this year it’s a new itinerary for seaview and one of the reasons i chose to sail seaview again in October from cannes. I will be doing the usual med loop on Bellissima in 87 days for 2 weeks and Grandiosa june next year ( sorry i put april in previous post 🙈 getting mixed up with my Virtuosa sailing april 2021). I must also say that seaview is a wonderfully designed ship for quiet relaxing places in the sun and gives amazing views of sunsets and sail aways. Msc has a great video on a utube of seaview 🤫 😊 👌🏻

Até

I would also pick cruise #1.  Not just based on the better time of year and itinerary, but also based on ship class.  I'm already nervous about a future booking due to overcrowding reports on Meraviglia, I would really think twice before booking a Meraviglia+ ship (Grandiosa), or at least wait to see some reviews.  Seaside class handles the number of people fairly well in my opinion.

Thanks Fostelo and Ate!! It's a hard choice for me because Cruise #2 has Marseille and Malta. But Cruise #1 has more ports, better chance for weather, and La Spezia.

Appreciate the thoughts on the ship class.

Our Baltic cruise was on the Princess Regal. It was awesome. No crowds, and every night we sat in the hot tubs resting our feet. We aren't big partiers and really enjoyed dinners and walking around the ship.

Seaview is perfect for evening strolls along the outdoor promenade 👌🏻

4 hours ago, Fostelo said: Seaview is perfect for evening strolls along the outdoor promenade 👌🏻

In late October? Sure hope so because I'm just about 99% sold on this trip. :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey! So we did book the Seaview in late October, boarding in Rome. But we are considering switching to the Barcelona embarkation port since flights are much better there. I've tried emailing MSC to no avail (no surprise there). Anyone know if this switch can be easily done? I checked and it seems they have plenty of cabins available.

Hurry up and change to Barcelona, it s is much Easyer to board in Barcelona. Taxa from airport to Romes harbour is Very expensive.

Cabin availability is not the issue...what matters are the terms & conditions of your contract! They will allow you to do this, but there will be an admin fee as a minimum. WCS is you lose the deposit, and have to rebook!

Ah, really good point. I always forget about the T&C. Hope I don't have to rebook. We used a 10% coupon...

I'm on this sailing, so it gets my vote!! Lol But in all seriousness, I went to these same ports in 2014 in November and the weather was perfect.

OceansOfTravels

I just did the Grandiosa itinerary on the Seaview 😉

Seaview is easily my favorite ship to date, so I'm going to have to go with that. Very large, very modern, and lots to do onboard. Plus, that itinerary has some better stops, and if you're looking to save money, better places to do it, since at least for me, I found that the itinerary the Grandiosa is on is muuuuuuch better if you are putting out money for expensive excursions. The itinerary that you would take on the Seaview has ports where the beach is the draw, which will likely be much cheaper than a long tour to something like Pompeii, Sorrento, Taormina, Avignon, etc. Plus, you mention better weather is a draw, so take advantage! The Cinque Terre is gorgeous, and you could use your Genoa day as an impromtu "sea day" and splurge while in La Spezia for the gorgeous italian coast. Def another vote for the Seaview option

I tried a ship-within-a-ship cruise experience and it was worth it for the endless perks—here’s why

The MSC Yacht Club affords travelers a totally different cruising experience, but you’ll have to splurge.

Erica Lamberg

I heard tales of luxury from people about the ritzy MSC Yacht Club , the ship-within-a-ship concept where discerning passengers enjoy their own area of the cruise ship that includes a dedicated restaurant, private lounge, separate pool and sundeck as well as private butlers and concierges to take of any whim while cruising. The elevated Yacht Club boasts priority everything while sailing MSC.

I sailed on a four-night cruise on the new MSC Seashore, a glitzy ship with Italian flair intermingled with references to New York City at every turn. Although the ship was well-appointed and had amazing dining, drinking and entertainment venues, and a bountiful Top Sail main buffet, thousands of passengers made the ship feel crowded at times, elevators were slow, and as I strolled through the general pools, they were boisterous and crowded.

RECOMMENDED: 10 things about cruising on an adults-only ship that might surprise you

Switch gears to MSC Seashore’s Yacht Club, passkey-protected for lucky guests, and is a 180 from the ship’s general spaces. Once you scan your handy Yacht Club wrist badge, or your room key, you’re instantly given entrance to a breathtaking retreat of 131 staterooms and suites. All this luxury does come at a price. Cruise fares will vary based on destination, time of year, and cabin category, but generally speaking you can expect to pay double for the Yacht Club. And from my experience, it’s worth it. Read more about why you should splurge.

You’re fast-tracked through everything

The Yacht Club’s exclusivity and impeccable service standard started from the moment I got dropped off at the Port Canaveral cruise terminal. There were hundreds of people waiting to board at 1pm on embarkation day. I saw in the distance a canopy that said MSC Yacht Club. My husband and I wheeled our carry-on luggage to the representative under the canopy. I gave her my name and within two seconds, she gave me a sticker to wear and up we ascended on the escalator to check in. Just five minutes later, I was directed to the dedicated check-in area for Yacht Club guests. To my right, I saw about 1,000 people serpentine through ropes to do general check-in. I felt a sense of relief; who wants to wait in that line? Five minutes later, a butler from the Yacht Club insisted on wheeling my luggage to board the ship and I was in my room in a total on 12 minutes from the time I stepped foot out of the car to my stateroom in the Yacht Club.

Relaxing and streamlined

In addition, Yacht Club guests have the freedom to get off the ship first for excursions. Your butler will happily escort you off the ship with a smile. Guests also can disembark on the last morning first, which is a big convenience. Your butler walks you right to the place you disembark, bypassing crowds and hassles. Port Canaveral is about an hour away from Orlando International Airport, and we took a 10 am flight home. We didn’t have to linger around until the afternoon for our flight home.

Another perk is that there’s a special seating area in the theater for shows. All the shows were excellent during my voyage. All other ship passengers have to make reservations in advance for shows but that’s not the case for the privileged Yacht Club passengers. As long as you arrive about 10 minutes before any show you choose, a crew member from the Club will allow you entry into a special roped-off section. Again, no rushing through dinner—you have the flexibility to plan your evenings your way.

MSC Seashore

Your Yacht Club package is packed with remarkable value

The price tag may sound daunting, but there’s lots of value there. All Yacht Club cabins and suites include a premium drink package that covers beverages up to $15. You can use this perk both in the Yacht Club and throughout the ship. In addition, your package includes a two-device Wi-Fi package, which worked well during my sailing. Finally, you get access to the thermal spa suite, which is a place to indulge after a day in port or a sea day. Commonly, there’s a taboo regarding mini-bars, but not in the Yacht Club. It’s stocked each day with the beverages you want; just tell your butler and consider it done.

You get perks ashore too

If your sailing includes a call to Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island, Yacht Club guests get an elevated experience there too. Yacht Club guests enjoy a private area, and a dedicated restaurant called the Ocean House. While other ship guests were hosted to a buffet of predictable fare, I enjoyed a lobster roll, and my husband chose carne asada. In my opinion, one thing that could be improved was the tram service to the Yacht Club’s private area. We were told the last tram back was 3:30pm if we didn’t want to trek a 15-minute walk in the heat. Since we were docked in Ocean Cay for the evening and weren’t sailing, I was a bit dismayed by this logistical quirk. I felt like I was keeping an eye on my phone to make sure I didn’t miss the last tram.

You have private areas with curated food and drink and outdoor spaces

Within the Yacht Club complex, there’s the Yacht Club Restaurant, Top Sail Lounge and the One Pool Buffet, which are all exclusive to Yacht Club guests. Obviously, the food and service are steps above other dining venues of the ship, I can vouch for that. Although the food is delicious, if you don’t want to pay extra to dine at the specialty restaurants or fuss in the main buffet, eating three meals a day in the Yacht Club restaurant can get a bit monotonous. The breakfast is the same daily, and lunch and dinner offer a menu with daily specials plus a few standby selections like a hamburger or pasta each day. Although the Yacht Club Restaurant concept is desirable, I would strongly suggest dining in other venues on board, especially for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed specialty dining in Ocean Cay Restaurant, Butcher’s Cut, and Kaito Teppanyaki. I also want to mention that late afternoon high tea is offered daily at the Yacht Club Restaurant. It was one of the nicest I have experienced at sea.

MSC Seashore

Also available exclusively to Yacht Club passengers is the Top Sail Lounge, which offers panoramic water views and has chef-curated selections from morning through late night. We enjoyed popping into the lounge at all hours to try finger foods and sweets. The One Pool Buffet offers a more casual option for breakfast and lunch by the pool. The buffet has grilled fish, sandwiches and lots of delicious options if you want to dine outside.

There’s also an exclusive area with a private pool and two whirlpools for Yacht Club guests only. The sun deck loungers are very comfortable and I never had to worry about finding a lounger, there are ample. One issue I had was that there was almost no shade on the sun deck; there were shaded day beds for Royal Suite and Owners Suite guests, but beyond those, I couldn’t find any shade, which was disappointing.

You can justify the price at the end of your cruise

Overall, the best way to explain my enthusiasm for my MSC Yacht Club experience is this: it’s better to book an interior stateroom in the Yacht Club than a luxe cabin outside the Yacht Club. It’s worth the splurge and you return home feeling truly pampered and it’s money well-spent. And I make this prediction: Once you try a ship-within-a-ship concept like the MSC Yacht Club, you won’t want cruise any other way. Bon Voyage!

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.
