Marinas and moorings in Saint-Tropez

Discover the top Saint-Tropez moorings

With a beguiling mix of old wooden sailing masts and gleaming superyachts, the beautiful fishing village of Saint Tropez is perhaps the most famous yacht marina in the world.

Saint Tropez is a very splendid village, and its marina is an exciting place to be. However, given the competition and steep prices of a midsummer berth in Saint Tropez, you’ll often find that some of the neighbouring marinas offer a cheaper and more low-key experience (with the same great access to the stunning beaches and medieval villages of Provence).

Weekly Charters Day Charters Fishing Charters

The Port de Saint Tropez runs right along the cobbled water-front of this chic town, so you can step right off your boat and into the cool sophistication of Hotel de Paris or sip a glass of rose in one of the other pavement cafes . Or perhaps you’d like to have a Provencal lunch in a shady restaurant courtyard beneath the grape vines, followed by an afternoon spent shopping in the town’s glamorous boutiques .

Whatever floats your boat, Saint Tropez is a very special and memorable place to berth your vessel. It can also be quite a pricey one, with berth rates ranging between 27 euro per night for a 5m boat, to 2,894 euro for a 70m boat to come into port for a night.

As you might imagine, it can be tough finding a berth in Saint Tropez in summer. There’s just one marina in Saint Tropez proper, but if you can’t nab a spot there are some good marinas nearby, such as the well-protected Cogolin marina, Port Grimaud (‘the Venice of Provence’) and the relaxed seaside town of Cavalaire-sur-Mer.

Book My Berth

Moorings & marinas

Port de Saint Tropez The most glittering of marinas, Port de Saint Tropez , is relatively small, with 734 berths for yachts up to 50 metres in length, and a maximum draft of 6 metres. This is the only marina in Saint Tropez proper and berths are extremely sought after. The celebrity clientele ensures that the port’s level of service is high and that there are all the necessary amenities, from a dedicated business area, concierge or ‘groom’ service, WiFi subscription, fuel dock, free waste water pump-out and electricity etc. Saint-Tropez harbour also has two terraces on the Jean Réveille Pier which are available for hire for special events.

There is a sailing club in the port called the Societe de Nautique de Saint Tropez . Saint Tropez is the venue of 17 sailing events throughout the year, of which 6 are major regattas. In late September/early October, the Port de Saint Tropez hosts the last classic sailing regatta of the season, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez , transforming this already desperately pretty marina into a magnificent display of old wooden yachts, which race across the bay in the daytime under billowing cream sails before returning to port to a huge party at night. It’s quite a spectacle.

You can book your Saint Tropez berth online. The website also has an English version.

Marina de Port Grimaud Marina de Port Grimaud is a quite extraordinary marina on the Gulf of Saint Tropez, with over 2000 berths over three marinas connected by a quite charming network of canals, bridges and man-made islands. Often likened to Venice for its canal layout, this port was designed in 1967 by an architect who decided he wanted to build a marina and Provencal village on seaside canals in the South. While most of the berths are privately owned, several hundred are reserved for casual stays. The marinas can admit yachts up to 30 metres, but the majority of berths are for small vessels. You’ll find lots of shops, restaurants and services in the village- or you can just grab an ice-cream from a waterfront parlour and wander the network of canals. If you’re looking to explore the area, the old town of Grimaud is a perched village a few kilometres inland, with ancient links to the famous Grimaldi family- now the ruling family of Monaco. Port Grimaud is seven kilometres from Saint Tropez.

Marines de Cogolin Like Port Grimaud, the Marines de Cogolin is the sea port of a perched village a few kilometres inland. Another new port built to take advantage of the burgeoning leisure yacht industry, Cogolin is a very large port, with capacity for 1600 boats with a maximum length of 50 metres. The average depth is 4 metres. The marina is set over three large basins, and its position at the mouth of an inlet makes this a very sheltered marina during bad weather spells. The marina has a shipyard, chandlery, Laundromat, wifi, boat rentals, and all the usual services.

The complex also has shops, restaurants and services surrounding the marina, as well as a sailing school, swimming pool, diving school and tennis courts.

Port de Plaisance de Cavalaire Cavalaire is a relaxed and modern seaside town near Saint Tropez, but with none of its bling. With lots of great beaches, affordable restaurants and friendly locals, this is as far as you can get from Saint Tropez while still being close by. The Port de Plaisance de Cavalaire has 570 places over 5 pontoons and a main quay, catering to vessels up to 20m and with a 6m draft. There are basic services such as water and electricity on the dock, toilets and showers, and 24/7 marina security.

Port de Sainte Maxime This smaller port near Saint Tropez has 375 berths, catering to vessels up to 25m long. Port de Sainte Maxime has basic services such as electricity, water and a fuel dock, this is another low-key marina in a town with a family friendly vibe.

By Katia Damborsky   Last Updated: 19 December 2022

Think you know the beach club scene in St Tropez? Think again. Pampelonne Beach has undergone some major new changes over the years, and YachtCharterFleet had the pleasure of heading to St Tropez to get the lay of the land and discover summer’s hottest beach clubs for 2024 first-hand.

In this article:

1. Verde Beach by Yeeels

2. la reserve a la plage, 3. byblos beach, 4. la serena, 6. club les palmiers, 7. jardin tropezina, 10. nikki beach, 11. shellona, 12. bagatelle.

Tucked on the east coast of St Tropez, Pampelonne Beach is where the A-listers of St Tropez come to drink, dance and relax.

An exclusive party playground and dining mecca, no South of France yacht charter would be complete without a visit to this iconic stretch of beach, and Pampelonne is invariably a magnet for superyachts during the summer season.

Best for: No-holds-barred fun and infectious party atmosphere

Crowds of people dance at Verde Beach on Pampelonne Bach at St Tropez

Headed up by uber-trendy hospitality brand Yeeels, Verde Beach was one of the newest outposts to storm the St Tropez scene in 2019.

This boho-chic restaurant and strip of beach has since established itself as the best place to go if you’re looking for a laid-back lunch that has the potential to transform into a buzzing party scene at a moment’s notice.

st tropez yacht club

The restaurant is helmed by Chef Julien Lee Thibault, so be sure to nab a highly-coveted table and choose a few dishes from the menu. The burrata is divine, the lobster pasta hits all the right flavor notes and the octopus manages to elevate a simple dish to a new level of taste.

Afterward, motor yacht charter guests can take a stroll outside and set up shop on one of the sunloungers overlooking the sea. Take a dip, top up your tan or order a cocktail; the mojitos are not to be missed.

The hip younger sister of the archetypal beach club, Verde Beach is where the St Tropez insiders come to feast, rest and play all under one roof. Reservations are strongly advised.

Best for: Elegant unwinding

st tropez yacht club

Embodying the same sophisticated style as the five-star La Reserve Ramatuelle around the corner, La Reserve a la Plage is bringing a dose of French Riviera glamour to Pampelonne for 2024 and is a popular option for visiting St Tropez yacht charter guests as they prepare for an evening on the town.

Expect chic surrounds, with marble-clad bathrooms and a small shop selling delicate jewelry and straw bags. Arrive early to stretch out on one of the amber-colored sunbeds and enjoy some bronzing and yacht-spotting.

After a morning of unwinding, slope inside and peruse the menu, which is the creation of Nicolas Cantrel.

For something fresh and light, opt for Gamberoni ceviche with stracciatella cheese and pistachio; more hearty options include grilled beef tagliata, marinated tomatoes and citrus dressing, and Wagyu beef ribeye. Top off with tiramisu for two or the beach club’s signature specialty; rum babas. Reservations are not necessary for visiting crewed yacht charters  but are advised.

Best for: A Mediterranean gourmet experience nonpareil

st tropez yacht club

An offshoot of the legendary Hotel Byblos which was initially established to woo Brigitte Bardot, Byblos Beach is the place to go for a stylish but laid-back experience on the legendary Pampelonne beach.

This beachfront offering is wall-to-wall with models, A-listers, and France yacht charter guests in search of a lazy lunch onshore. It takes interior cues from a castaway theme but dresses it up with tables draped in white linen and perfectly-plated dishes.

The menu is full of star billings but among the best of the bunch; king crab with lemon and grapefruit caviar, seabass ceviche with kiwi, and spare ribs glazed in Corsican honey.

Byblos also excels with deserts. The strawberry pavlova is easily large enough to share- split it with a Tart Tropezienne, a St Tropez staple that has been given a Byblos upgrade under the executive chef.

Best for: Family-friendly fun

st tropez yacht club

Since La Serena opened its doors in summer 2019 it has swiftly become popular among visiting family yacht charter guests. But don’t let its child-friendly approach fool you; the cocktails are strong and the party vibes amp up as the day wears on.

You’d be remiss not to sample one of the venue’s creatively-named highballs; try ‘I'm Sorry About Last Night’, 'Doesn’t Have A Fancy Name' or ‘What’s Your Name Again?’

With its slick service, the restaurant is also a highlight of La Serena. The king prawn & salmon ceviche stands out, as do the generous portions of seafood-laced spider linguine. Booking is recommended, but you can usually bag a table.

Best for: Riviera romance

st tropez yacht club

The sister of the highly-acclaimed Loulou in Paris, this new beachfront oasis on Tamaris Beach has a stylish setting that has quickly made it a hotspot for the models and VIPs of St Tropez.

In spite of its polished appearance, it has a rustic Riviera vibe that bodes well for Mediterranean yacht charter guests in the mood for something unfussy. The menu entries are flavor-focused, with sea bream carpaccio and al dente linguine à la vongole among the highlights.

Finish with a cocktail on the beach looking out over the azure water. LouLou doesn’t hold back with its cocktail menu; Free in Pampelonne is served in a coconut husk, and features the tropical flavors of rum, pineapple, and fresh coconut water.

Best for: Summer serenity

st tropez yacht club

Run by charismatic St Tropezienne couple Mimi and Stephanie, Club Les Palmiers is a certified Pampelonne favorite, which has moved to its updated location on Tamaris Road.

Boasting veritable eco-credentials, with structural design by sustainable architect Philippe Madec, the beach life scene is buzzing with West Mediterranean charter yacht guests, offering an inviting spread of sunbeds, a shisha lounge, a cocktail bar, and a bijou shop selling an impressive variety of fashion accessories.

Nodding to the owner's Italian heritage, the venue's restaurant sees Italian dishes take center stage. Recipes passed down through the generations feature throughout. Try Mamma's Meatballs as an entree, followed by caviar spaghetti to share.

Best for: Chic chilling

st tropez yacht club

Situated on the north end of Pampelonne, Jardin Tropezina is a sleek option for luxury yacht charter guests, resembling an elegant Mediterranean garden, where diners can soak up the beauty of the beach and enjoy meals below a canopy of ivy and fairy lights.

Farm-fresh produce is the order of the day, with wicker baskets filled with local ingredients lined up on the boardwalk entryway. As you might expect, the menu places a heavy focus on vegetarian dining, but there is a stellar selection of meat options available as well.

Jardin Tropezina is open between late March and October, making it a great place to visit year-round for good food and a party atmosphere that gets going around 7.30pm. Advance bookings are recommended.

Best for: Non-stop party vibes

st tropez yacht club

The new-and-improved Moorea Plage is Pampelonne’s party hub. A jetty makes motor and sailing yacht charter transfers quick and easy, and a selection of sunbeds lined up along the beach invites you to enjoy a morning of blissful relaxation.

When lunchtime rolls around, head inside and grab a table. The restaurant starts to heave with hungry diners around midday, so book ahead or get in early.

The interior of the venue has an urban feeling balanced by natural touches, and the menu reflects typically Mediterranean flavors with countless options for a light lunch.

The dining experience is enlivened by live DJ sets and entertainers. Once the party takes off, expect feel-good tunes and dancing on the tables.

Best for: Celebrity-spotting

st tropez yacht club

Easily the most legendary venue along the French Riviera, Le Club 55 holds a cult status in Pampelonne. Established in 1955, it rose to notoriety when it became the go-to restaurant for the cast and crew of the 1956 film And God Created Women, including Brigitte Bardot herself.

It may have been many years since the Hollywood starlet set foot in Club 55, but walking into the restaurant area still feels like a who's-who of A-listers.  A place made for  see and be seen yacht charters , the atmosphere is impossibly upbeat, with laughter and conversation filling up the space.

Grab a table – booking is strongly advised – and tuck into fresh steak tartare or zingy seabass with hollandaise. Afterward, stroll outside and spend some time browsing the club's shops, where unique trinkets make lovely gifts or charming souvenirs.

Club 55 has its own private jetty and tender service; a winning addition to any crewed yacht charter vacation. Whether you make an entrance of a lifetime or just find a spot in the sand, Club 55 is the perfect place for spending the day at the beach.

Best for: Idling by the pool

st tropez yacht club

Set back from the beach in the midst of pine trees, Nikki Beach's expansive outpost on Pampelonne is a firm favorite for charter guests wanting to dine, unwind, and party in a truly mesmerizing yacht charter destination .

A variety of sunbeds and loungers are spread across the venue, offering numerous options for stretching out and soaking up the summery soundtrack. The drinks here are expertly crafted and are best enjoyed while floating around on an inflatable in the pool.

The pool is a unique component of the beach club scene in St Tropez, and during the day this is where the party really starts to warm up. Expect live DJ sets, wild dance performances, and epic champagne showers; you'll leave Nikki Beach with memories to last a lifetime.

Best for: Harmonious boho-chic

Overview of charter guests enjoying the ambiance of Shellona Beach Club, St Tropez

Launching onto the scene in 2017, the effortlessly stylish bohemian outpost of Pampelonne Beach's Shellona Beach Club feeds off the success of the popular St Barts yacht charter attraction.

With sun loungers, parasols, and cabanas sprawling across the sand, the combination of veritable Meditteranean cuisine by Chef Yiannis Kioroglou and hedonistic Ibiza yacht charter party vibes offers all visiting charter guests a unique environment that keeps on giving.

Relax in the late afternoon with intricately crafted cocktails and live music spun from the bar-side DJ booth.

Best for: No holds barred fun

A table prepared for a meal at Bagatelle St Tropez

A lively hub that regularly attracts influencers and A-listers, Bagatelle of St Tropez is a non-stop party that enchants all yacht charter guests with authentic Mediterranean cuisine and an intoxicating atmosphere that will draw them back year after year for unforgettable French Riviera yacht charters .

With other successful beach clubs in the US and St Barts , Bagatelle serves up a generous selection of flavors from the French Riviera, with popular dishes including Carpaccio of sea bass, tonnato style, crispy Pantelleria capers and Jivara chocolate pizzetta with caramelized Piemont hazelnuts.

Offering an extravagant night on the beach every night, Bagatelle is a must for visiting private yacht charters and a great way to end a busy day of exploring the vicinity of St Tropez.

The Burgess Guide to Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Regatta

Published 09 September 2024

Your guide to the Voiles de Saint-Tropez Regatta

Set your social compass  for the South of France  and head to the pretty port of Saint-Tropez   for   the 25th anniversary  celebrations  of the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez . From 26   September through to 6 October, th is  prestigious regatta welcomes more than 250 sailing yachts to race  together  in the bay of Saint-Tropez .

Origins of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez Regatta

Originating from a chance meeting in 1981 when Patrice de  Colmont  of Club 55 challenged two skippers of two sailing boats – Pride, a Swan 44, and Ikra, a 12-metre JI – to race from the village of Saint-Tropez around the  Nioulargo   finishing in front of Club 55  at  Pampelonne  Beach. Here the winn ing yacht Ikra  w as  rewarded with a silver platter and a  free  lunch at the famed Le Club 55   beach club.  The following year the losing skipper  (and owner) of Pride  challenged  Ikra  to a re - run, and  so began the story of  the  iconic  Nioulargue  Regatta.

Inviting maxis to join the year   after, the event was  then  registered on the official maxi class calendar in 1983, and just a year later so popular was  its unique spirit,  camaraderie  and jovial atmosphere, th at the   event introduced categories such as sea explorers,  tropéziens -travail and  tropéziens-marconi .

After a few years hiatus following a collision, the regatta began again, evolving into Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez in 1999.  Attracting more and more participants and spectators year on year, the event now sees more than 250 sailing yachts in every size rac ing  across seven performance classes.

Saint-Tropez  racing week  programme

The  armada  of  classic yachts  anticipated  for 2024 promises to be spectacular, with many of the fleet over a hundred years old battling it out to make further history. Registrations  take place between 28–30 September, with evening entertainment throughout the  event  including live music,  a  Boules competition, children's parade and  various prize giving ceremonies.

Racing  commences  on  1  October with the Classic  yachts  race, followed by the Rolex Trophy and the Maxis and Modern  yachts  racing over the course of the next seven days.  The week-long racing  then  comes to a close on  6 October  with a prize giving ceremony.

How do I get  to Saint-Tropez ?

Once a quaint little fishing village, the coastal town of Saint-Tropez has managed to  retain  its charm thanks to its  relatively remote  location on the popular French Riviera. The closest international airport is Nice, which is  located  around 60 miles from the port, and can be reached in part by motorway and then a single carriage  road . The  last part of the journey can be problematic with heavy traffic,  so the  most convenient way to travel to Saint-Tropez is by yacht or helicopter transfer from Nice Airport.

What to wear to the  Saint-Tropez sailing Regatta?

There is no official dress code for those attending Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez as a spectator, but bear in mind that while autumn sees  temperatures drop from soaring peak-summer highs, the average daily temperature ranges between 19°C and 24°C.  Lightweight clothing is therefore advisable, along with comfortable shoes , and a pair of binoculars.

During the evening, there is no  attire  required , but if you are a guest on a yacht  then they may have their own specific dress code,  and you may need a jacket or sweater  in the evening . Participants, including race crew, will usually be given a team racing kit to wear throughout the  ten days .

Onshore festivities at the Voiles de Saint-Tropez Regatta

Soak up the atmosphere of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez from the Old Port of Saint-Tropez . The beautiful setting plays host  to the regatta  each evening with parades, musical entertainment, and parties taking place around the  harbour .

What else can I do  whilst  at the  Voiles de Saint-Tropez Regatta ?

Once a quiet fishing village, Saint-Tropez shot to fame in the 1950s when  it became the backdrop for  the film  Et Die u …  créa  le femme  (And God Created Woman), starring Brigitte Bardot . Its star appeal has shimmered ever since.  Spend time in the old town, venture around the headland to  Pampelonne  beach, or escape to the sun-drenched  Îles   d’Hyères   islands  that lie just off the coast.

Sightseeing  around  Saint-Tropez

The storied French seaside town has more to it than just its   hip beach clubs and glitz and glamour. Its cobbled streets   have inspired artists the likes of Picasso and  Matisse, while the  vintage  buildings house  a number of   museums alongside designer boutiques .  During rac e  days, c limb the hill to the 16 th  century Citadel that sits atop Saint-Tropez for stunning views across the bay – a great spot to watch the  action unfold .   Or t ake some time away from  the sailing  and explore the Citadel’s dungeons ,  which  also  play host to the Maritime History Museum. Back in town, t he Place des  Lices  is a must-visit. Right in the  heart of the village, the centuries-old plane trees  here  provide shade for Saint-Tropez ’s main market (Tuesdays and Saturdays), as well as  a venue for both  boules players and cafés.

Go shopping on Rue François  Sibilli

Well known for its fashion  and shopping , the picturesque  cobblestone  streets of Saint-Tropez  are filled with both designer and independent  boutiques.  Rue François  Sibilli  is  where the big-name brands have their flagship stores, with iconic labels such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior all having a notable presence. Stepping into Dior is an event in itself – housed in an 18 th  century townhouse, the boutique also has a stunning garden restaurant that is open throughout the summer season, closing mid-October.

Sample the local cuisine

Saint-Tropez  boasts a gastronomic scene to rival that of any major city, with a glut of fantastic restaurants both in the town and around the headland at  Pampelonne . For a spectacular setting and superb cuisine, head to the three Michelin starred La Vague d’Or – one  of two restaurants at the Cheval Blanc Saint-Tropez .  The elegant   Relais & Chateaux property   La Bastide de Saint-Tropez is home to the Michelin-starred restaurant  L'Olivier  de la Bastide , while Mediterranean flavours can be enjoyed at La Colombe on nearby  Île du Levant.

Lying just around the headland from Saint-Tropez , the sandy three-mile stretch of  Pampelonne  beach is dotted with beach clubs  – La Cabane  Bambou ,  LouLou , Indie, La  Réserve , Gigi, Casa Amor, Verde and  Shellona , and the   perennial favourite,  Le Club 55 .

The classes of races are separated into the Traditional class (classic yachts), the Modern class, the Esprit de Tradition class (modern traditional), the Wally class, and the 12 Meter America’s Cup Yachts class. The yachts that participate in the Voiles St. Tropez Regatta are some of the most famous sailing yachts in the world piloted by world class captains. These yachts will include J-Class, Swans, Maxiyachts, and more. Yachting enthusiasts from across the globe consider the Voiles St. Tropez Regatta a “can’t miss” race.

Leapher Yachts NAVIX50

“The NAVIX50 embodies our philosophy of creating vessels that excel in any environment,” Leapher CEO Yiannis Andriotis said in a statement. “From the Drake Passage to the coast of St. Tropez, this yacht redefines what’s possible in the sub-500GT category.”

The spacious interior includes six generous cabins, with the option for a seventh cabin or expanded skylounge. The guest cabin on the main deck can also be turned into a gym, wellness area, or an expanded owner’s suite. All guest cabins are equipped with king-size beds, while the owner’s suite is fitted with a plush super king-size bed. The yacht is also home to six crew cabins that can sleep up to 11.

The exterior decks are replete with alfresco dining areas, lounges, and sunbeds. The aft deck is arguably the standout, with two folding terraces, a large, 18-foot pool, a sprawling sunbathing area, a swim platform, and not one but two wet bars. At the opposite end, the foredeck doubles as a garage for two tenders.

Leapher Yachts NAVIX50

“It [the NAVIX50] offers unparalleled versatility and luxury while maintaining an attractive value proposition for seasoned owners,” added Andriotis.

Leapher operates on a site formerly owned by cruise ship producer De Hoop that closed at the height of the pandemic. The yard is set to deliver the first NAVIX60 later this month. Christened Horizon, the 198-foot explorer will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 25 to 28.
