12 Luxury Hotels with Yachts | Best Sunset Cruises & More

Few things beat a luxury hotel stay in a private area with breathtaking views. But, a luxury hotel with yachts might just take the first spot.

The yacht collections from these opulent hotels and  luxury island resorts are just as luxurious as the buildings themselves. Yacht rides and cruises are often included in the all-inclusive hotel experience, but it is definitely worth the splurge even if they aren’t.

Keep reading to find the best luxury all-inclusive private yachts for your next ocean getaway.

Private Charters for Luxury Travelers

These five-star luxury hotels have it all, whether traveling with the whole family or hoping for a romantic luxury experience on a sunset cruise. While they may only accommodate up to six guests a suite, their luxury yachts can usually transport much more.

One & Only Reethi Rah

One & Only Reethi Rah

The One & Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives is on the largest island on the North Malé Atoll. It is also one of the most expensive hotels in the Maldives. Choose between the beach villa, water villa, or one of the grand residences while you’re here. Either one you choose, this little slice of paradise is surrounded by tropical white sand beaches and azure blue waters all around.

The open-plan rooms are modern and incorporate the beachy atmosphere in the design. Your room doors open up to the crisp beach and jungle in your front yard. Bathrooms are equally as breezy and overlook your private beach area. The hotel has everything you need for a relaxing stay, including multiple restaurants, tennis courts, infinity pools, and a spa. Take to the waters with this hotel’s selection of sea vessels. While yachts may be your preference, it doesn’t have to be your only choice. One & Only offers guests a selection of sailing boats, including a catamaran, speedboat, yacht charter fleet, and a luxury yacht.

You can choose the route you want to take around the island and stop for a swim, snorkeling session, dolphin watching, or a chance to soak up the Maldives sun. The itinerary includes a half-day or full-day cruise personalized by the yacht captain themselves. You can customize it to your liking and even add a lesson in the Maldivian art of hand-line fishing.

My The Wellesley

  • Knightsbridge, London

My The Wellesley

The Wellesley gives its guests a blast from the past with its art-deco inspired interior. Despite the homage, this five-star hotel in London’s Knightbridge is very modern and surely is a beautiful sight for sore eyes. The Wellesley overlooks Hyde Park and matches its grandeur with equally as elegant walls and historical past.

From this grandiose hotel, the boat hotel in London, My The Wellesley, originated. The yacht has six en-suite cabins available for two guests each. The Owner’s Suite has panoramic views of the sea on the trip, while the Master Suite has recenty been completely refurbished. This suite covers the whole lower deck and features a walk-in closet. Both suites are excellent choices for a luxurious stay on the sea, but the finest treasures are found outside your suites. On deck, there is a club lounge and two on-site fine dining restaurants. Grab your meal al fresco under the stars or retreat to the club lounge for a cigar in the bespoke humidor.

Outside on the deck is where you’ll find 40 square meters of sunbathing space that includes the splash pool and crash pad. This offers 360 views of the ocean and mountains with loungers all around the gathering spot.

AYANA Komodo Resort

AYANA Komodo Resort

This beach resort on Waecicu Beach in Indonesia is what living on your own private island must feel like. Secluded from the outside world, this resort provides everything you need for an island getaway.

Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the turquoise ocean ahead. Each room comes with a seating area, private bathroom, and room service. To cool off, why not take a dip in the private beach or outdoor swimming pool. After, you can grab a bite to eat at one of the six international restaurants and bars.

Take a luxury overnight charter and explore The UNESCO-protected Komodo National Park over two to three nights. With nine spacious rooms aboard and 16 hardworking crew members waiting on you hand and foot. You’ll live in absolute luxury while sailing across the Pacific and the Indian Oceans. Each cabin provides world-class comfort with large beds, seating areas, and a private balcony.

The luxury cruise is all-inclusive and provides all meals as well as on- and off-shore activities. Guests staying on the yacht have a chance to go island hopping and visit the surrounding unspoiled islands. They can also go snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding. All daily meals are freshly prepared by the capable hands of the cruise’s personal chef and assistants.

Principe Forte Dei Marmi

Principe Forte Dei Marmi

Principe Forte dei Marmi is in a coastal town along the Mediterranean sea in Italy, surrounded by other smaller villages. It is an opulent beach hotel that oozes modern luxe just a few steps away from Forte dei Marmi Beach’s private shore.

Each room has a simple yet stylish design with eye-catching decor pieces strategically placed throughout. Suites are airy and have an open plan design with a seating area and marble bathrooms. They are also kitted with modern amenities like wifi, air conditioning, and coffee machines.

One amenity you cannot skip while staying there is getting aboard their 24-meter Mazarine yacht. It may seem small, but this private charter has three cabins with accompanying private bathrooms. It also has a lounge and dining area and can hold up to twelve guests for the hotel’s exhilarating day tours.

You do not want to miss it as you have the opportunity to sunbathe on the upper deck while you are transported away on the Mediterranean. Besides the amazing ocean views, you are also transported to amazing destinations. These places include the colorful and ever-popular seaside villages of Portofino and Cinque Terre, among others.

This is the perfect escape if you’re looking for a deep dive into Italian culture and art.

Huvafen Fushi

Huvafen Fushi

Another resort in the North Malé Atoll and one of the best luxury hotels in the Maldives, Huvafen Fushi, is an idyllic island getaway. It epitomizes the Maldivian experience with white sands, turquoise beaches, and thatched bungalows. So, it would only make sense that this resort island with beach and overwater bungalows would have a luxury yacht too.

The hotel incorporates nature into its designs often. The bungalows are snugly tucked away between the lush jungle leaves of this island while the ocean surrounds them. While there is a private beach nearby, you don’t have to go far as bungalows come with a large sun deck and private pools.

Huvafen Fushi is all about comfort and aims to give its guests just that. There are also four restaurants offering a wide variety of local and international cuisines. Additional facilities include the ‘Spa-quarium’ where guests can get relaxing treatments in the underwater treatment rooms. Here, youcan watch the ocean currents and coral reefs through the aquarium windows while sipping champagne.

If you’re hoping for a more above-water experience, a yacht ride is just what you need. The resort’s Silver Surf luxury yacht sees you sailing along with dolphins as they jump in and out of the water as a cheerful hello. If you want something more intimate, the chartered private yacht is available for private hire and can seat up to 12 guests.

The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel

This opulent hotel was once a noble residence in the heart of Venice. It is on the Grand Canal and overlooks Santa Maria Delle Salute Church. This is a great place to see and feel the rich cultural significance Venice has on Italy.

Rooms push you deep into Venetian history and are reminiscent of a romantic Venetian style. Suites are decorated with gold, marble, and richly patterned fabrics. Striking Murano glass chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and century furniture line the floors.

The hotel also has a fine dining restaurant that serves an á la carte Italian menu. Its decor is set up in typical Gritti Place fashion– impressively elegant and over the top. If you’re looking for something lighter, two other popular al fresco restaurants are also on-site. They are open for lunch and dinner, respectively. If you’re hoping for a nightcap, the hotel’s Bar Longhi might be of assistance.

Why not take a leisurely yacht ride to soak up some more Venetian history and sun. This private yacht is great for exploring the surrounding lagoons and nearby towns. The surrounding towns, Treviso and Asolo are popular spots for local poets, musicians, and creatives.

Luxurious Suites for Up to Eight Guests or More

Six Senses Zighy Bay

Six Senses Zighy Bay

The Six Senses is an adventure seeker’s dream hotel. There are plenty of activities, full-day trips, and marine life interactions available here. If this sounds appealing to you, you might enjoy this mountainous resort or the shore.

The rooms are modern with a rustic feel. Expect rock walls and floors and exposed wood beams towering over you. There are also little divisions between rooms as they flow into each other, like the outdoor bathroom that moves onto the terrace area. This allows you uninterrupted views of Oman’s mountains as you soak your troubles away in the tub.

Suites and villas are decked out in Arabian extravagance with copper bathtubs, gigantic infinity pools, and wine cellars. The Private Reserve, the most expensive villa at the resort, has elevator access with a private chef in the full-service kitchen as well as an indoor cinema.

A few cruises are available at the resort, including a sunset cruise, dhow cruise , and a yacht charter. If you’re a hands-on person, take the yacht charter package as you can learn how to sail the Lagoon 450 yourself.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

The Marriot’s St. Regis hotel is a five-star resort on a private secluded island. It has the ocean and sand on one end and the lush jungle on the other. To take advantage of the beautiful waters, the resort has set up various water sports activities for their guests upon request. These include windsurfing, snorkeling, and diving in the Indian Ocean.

Resort rooms are expansive and can house up to ten guests in a villa. These villas allow lots of natural light to stream in through the big windows and doors. They also have a private terrace, pools, and walk-in closets. The marble bathrooms feature rainforest showers and bath tubs in addition to the complimentary toiletries and bathrobes.

The resort’s luxury yacht, The Norma, is available for private hire to their guests. There are a few packages available, whether it’s a family excursion, a date, or just afternoon tea.

Take the ‘Family Traditions’ package if you have little ones with you. On this boat trip, you’ll see dolphins swimming along before stopping at a private island. The marine life is very active here and offers a great opportunity for snorkeling. A light lunch and babysitting service is also included.

The Wellesley, London

She offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in six cabins with each suite aiming to be a “seamless extension of the hotel”. The master suite on the lower deck is particularly striking and features leather panelling, rich mahogany and bronze detailing.

The dining experience also shares similarities with the hotel with formal dinners set using Baccarat crystal, Christofle silverware and Wedgwood crockery. There are also two large dining areas for al fresco dining if you want a more informal experience.

She also offers fantastic deck spaces for those wanting to enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine, not always possible at the hotel’s Hyde Park setting. She has a large splash pool on her sundeck surrounded by sunpads to relax on afterwards.

The Wellesley is managed for charter by Thompson, Westwood & White and her weekly charter rate starts from €220,000.

This Luxury Hotel Has Its Own Yacht — Here's What It's Like Sailing On It

The visionary couple behind the beloved Tuscan boutique hotel Borgo San Pietro has introduced "Satori," a 137-foot sailing yacht.

Stuart Pearce/Courtesy of Borgo Lifestyle Group

This lifestyle luxury group is the gift that keeps on giving.

Shattering the glass ceiling with the highly talked about, award-winning 13th-century Tuscany boutique hotel Borgo Santo Pietro, the eponymous company now extends unrivaled charm and timeless design to Satori , the ultimate yacht experience.

A tender whisks me from the port in Athens, and we'll soon be approaching the yacht. From a short distance, I see the majestic Satori — or at least I hope I do. We start to slow for disembarkment, and the nautical blue starboard, vintage schooner shape, and vertical spars, standing majestic with the gods give her away. I do an internal backflip. It’s here, aboard this five-star luxury charter,  where I’ll spend the next few nights.

Stacey Wreathall/Travel + Leisure

I’m greeted with flowing wine and hors d'oeuvres, and I don't know it yet, but for the next few days, every bite (and sip) I take will make my taste buds dance with the Mediterranean's brightest and most organically sourced flavors.

As my luggage is taken care of, I'm ushered towards the plush coffee lounge seating area where I meet Claus Thottrup, half of the duo behind the Borgo Santo Pietro Group of lifestyle companies. "C’est Magnifique" by Kay Starr hums in the background, and the rosé feels pleasing on the palate. Claus beams as he tells me passionately about Satori ’s air-conditioned wine cellar.

(Side note: You're invited to indulge in the wine services aboard the yacht, and with an admirable boutique collection of wines selected to complement the impressive meals on board, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a reason not to indulge. In fact, the cellar stocks biodynamic and sustainably produced wines sourced directly from Borgo Santo Pietro’s estate in Tuscany.)

Claus continues to tell me with pride all about the 12 years of dedication and commitment to creating excellent taste profiles. Before I know it, I’ve finished my rosé, and I'm being handed a glass of pinot noir, another Borgo classic that goes down all too well.

Within an hour of my arrival, I slip into something more comfortable for sailing and began exploring.

At almost 137 feet in length, there’s ample opportunity for you to feel at home, and meandering through the space is easy. The teak flooring is smooth underfoot, and the flat floors make passing through each facet safe. With 376 square feet of indoor living space, encompassing a library, indoor dining area, and writing desk, you can take full advantage of the quiet moments. The best bit about this 'indoor' area is that you don’t feel like you're missing out on the sailing experience — the windows have been designed at sea level to bring expansive 360-degree views to you. In addition, the coffee deck at the stern lets you relax and be social with the wind in your hair. For complete privacy, the bow area offers an additional outdoor lounge. By night, it transforms into the most romantic cinema you’ve ever seen.

With five luxury guest rooms including a main suite, Satori can accommodate up to 10 guests. On the other hand, with fewer guests, you can convert a cabin into a private spa facility with a steam room and treatments.

We dropped anchor in the most idyllic spots: Dokos, Hydra, Spetses, and Poros. Unlike other charters, this slimline sailing yacht can schmooze close to the turquoise rock pools and crystal-clear shallow depths. Our first stop was Agine, a picture-perfect lagoon for swimming, jet skis, and getting out the toys . Adrenaline lovers will have endless fun with the range of Seabobs, Kayaks, and Ringos.

An afternoon of frivolity can work up a serious appetite, and I soon learned that aboard Satori , feeling hungry is a good idea. No matter what time of the day, a meal is never just a plate of food; it's a labor of love, thought, and execution — and there's plenty to go around. Guests can expect to eat at the mid-deck dining table with open kitchen views and unobstructed destination scenes.

Chefs are trained at Borgo Santo Pietro Saporium , the flagship Tuscany restaurant where authentic flavors and inventive cooking practices are the hallmarks of tantalizing cuisine. Needless to say, we were spoiled with inspired, flavourful dishes. My favorites were the lahmacun (a Middle Eastern flatbread), lobster risotto, and fresh tuna. For specifics, guests are encouraged to communicate preferences with the chef.

Co-owners and designers Claus and Jeanette Thottrup made it their mission to capture a truly remarkable dining experience . As part of the Borgo Santo Pietro luxury lifestyle group, the culinary mission is one of great passion for the pair. With two Michelin-starred restaurants, a five-star boutique hotel, and unique guest experiences centered around food and wine, there’s no surprise that gourmet flavors are at the epicenter of a Satori voyage.

Overamplifying the grace of Satori’s understated elegance and uncompromised comfort would ordinarily feel too much. But I catch a glimpse of myself in the glossy mahogany exterior, and amidst the deep diagonal layers of rich brown tones, I can see that Satori has gotten under my skin. Living up to her namesake meaning "instant enlightenment," I feel relaxed and at peace. Maybe it's the idea of traveling back in time?

This hand-carved wooden schooner gives all the vintage feels, as the inside decor illuminates the refined characteristics and prosperity of the 1920s and 1930s. The emphasis on clean lines, smooth round corners, and nature-inspired neutrals reflect a contemporary interpretation of Streamline Moderne . With orthopedic mattresses, sepia-tinted marble en-suite bathrooms, and technology-forward devices in every room, the old and new design elements merge unprecedentedly for a world-class sailing experience. I’m beginning to think that Satori’s unique narrative is what sailing dreams are made of.

The Genoa sail is out as we glide towards the island of Hydra. Island hopping and exploring untouched remnants of history are foremost on the itinerary. Of course, you can shape it to your liking, but for now, I felt like an Iconic star of the 1930s, taking in my first quintessential Greek experience.

A picturesque landscape that has seduced many with its stone mansions, brightly colored neighborhoods, and fairy-lit harbor is what you can expect from this island.  For us, getting lost in narrow alleys and visiting art museums is first on the agenda. Musing over the pleasant temperature came second. “This is shoulder season? It's perfect!” was the working title. Zero crowds and T-shirt weather make October in Greece a hot commodity — some might say it's the new July.

Satori offers multiple sailing destinations, and guests can pick from a Mediterranean menu of beautiful places. Itineraries for Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Italy, France (Corsica) can be found here . Satori sails between June through October. Booking in advance is recommended to secure dates for that eagerly awaited romantic getaway or family adventure.

Ilma, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection: First In

The RitzCarlton Yacht Collection

Start out with the big picture—what is this cruise line known for?

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is new to the cruising scene—its first superyacht, Evrima , launched in 2022, and Ilma is the second in its quickly expanding fleet, which is meant to provide all the luxury and freedom of a private yacht with the refinement and service Ritz-Carlton is known for.

And I have to say they’re nailing it—I truly felt like I was aboard a yacht more than a cruise ship . All of the spaces are designed with intimacy in mind and you can tell.

Ilma The RitzCarlton Yacht Collection

Tell us about the ship in general .

She’s sleek, she’s sexy, and she has a hotelier’s touch. I stayed at Hôtel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton flagship, before Ilma departed, and being onboard felt like a natural extension of the hotel. Everything felt comfortable but not at the expense of style. My mind immediately goes to the director-style dining chairs on deck outside Mistral, the restaurant on deck 10, which were not only designed specifically for Ilma —sleek chrome for the base and classic nautical stripes for the cushions—but improved upon from Evrima for new dimensions catering to comfort. I also can’t rave enough about the linens throughout the ship, from the napkins to the sheets to the bathrobe (more on this later).

All of the decks on board are expansive but never feel overcrowded—the loungers, couches, and tables are arranged to create pockets of intimate spaces, so you never feel like there are 400 other passengers onboard. There are 10 decks in total, the upper deck (10) and lower decks (3-5) being the most social—the main pool deck is on top, with loungers spanning along both sides of the ship and smaller tables between. At the bow, there’s the observation deck, cleverly hidden on the far side of the pool, with couches and its own bar. It’s so private, you almost feel like you might be in the wrong place (replaced quickly by the feeling that this is now your own little secret). The lower decks house most of the restaurants, the fitness studio and spa, and the smaller (infinity) pool deck, as well as the Living Room, which has smaller groupings of couches and tables, separated by natural parts of the architecture, like pillars and bookshelves, so you feel like you’re in, well, someone’s well-appointed family room.

Every design decision feels purposeful because, of course it is. Taking what they learned from Evrima and her guests, the Yacht Collection expanded much of Ilma ’s capacity to respond to what passengers gravitated toward the most, doubling the size of the fitness studios, the number of spa treatment rooms, and and the amount loungers on deck, for which I was grateful. I was relieved not to have to wake up at dawn to stake my claim on a seat.

Who is onboard?

Mostly couples, a few families, and a handful of solo travelers, all ranging in age. We had a lot of longtime Ritz loyalists, many who’d never cruised before, finally willing to give it a shot, thanks to Ilma .

Describe the cabins

Spacious, airy, plenty of room to breathe. My cabin— a Grand Suite —had both dining and living areas, in addition to a bedroom that I could close off while sleeping, avoiding any of the gorgeous Mediterranean sunlight let in by the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door too early in the morning. Running the whole width of the suite, the door opened onto a balcony to rival the decks above. I had two loungers and two armchairs all to myself, of which I made ample use.

I appreciated the two separate closet spaces (more than I have in my current apartment) that had drawers and hanging space—with enough hangers!—in addition to open shelving, which I used as easy access for the items I reached for the most: jewelry, bags, a sarong for the pool.

As for the linens, they were all from Frette , including the bathrobe, which now has the distinction of being the most comfortable robe I’ve ever used and made me realize how scratchy other robes turn out to be.

The color scheme was, like the rest of the superyacht, refined and understated—soft grays, whites, with a pop of color from the teal couch.

In the bathroom, I relished using the Diptyque products present during every shower, though I did have to hunt for the waste bin, which turned out not to be a separate receptacle but a drawer that was part of the vanity and took some getting used to.

Tell us about the crew

They were attentive and engaged but not overbearing and often knew what I wanted before I did (thinking of the iced oat milk latte I was offered one morning on the pool deck—it turned out to be just what I needed). We were told some of the crew had come from other Ritz properties, and I could tell a few were still getting their sea legs but were well on their way to adapting to the ship.

My suite ambassador, Horacio, was a particular standout, always anticipating what I’d need for the coming day—an extra bottle of Moët early on, then a fresh bottle of sparkling water later. He also made sure my welcome-night dress was freshly pressed in time for dinner and the following party, which I was especially grateful for, as there was no iron in the suite (there are two in the guest launderette, though).

What food and drink options are available on board?

You’ll never want for a drink or snack on Ilma . There are five restaurants, all with distinctive types of cuisine—Tides, Memorī, Beach House, Mistral, and the pièce de resistance: Seta su Ilma . Headed up by Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi , Seta is the only restaurant on board that requires an additional fee to dine there, and I’d recommend making a reservation as soon as you embark.

I experienced Seta (and it truly is an experience ) my last night on the superyacht, and it was quite the send-off. Dinner is an 11-course tasting menu with a wine pairing for every course, so everyone told me to eat light the day of, and I’m glad I did, especially since my favorite course ( Wagyu beef calabrese) came last before dessert. Seta was the most intimate of the restaurants with only ~40 seats, and all of the tables had staggered seating times. Our (chatty) table was one of the later seatings, and we closed down the restaurant.

And when you’re more parched than peckish, there are six bars aboard, most adjacent to their respective restaurants. My favorite was the Marina Bar, in the aft of the ship. Two of the walls transform out into open-air decks with glass paneling beneath you, so you can get a glimpse of the water below while you sip your cocktail of choice (mine was naturally a piña colada).

Is there a spa on board and is it worth visiting?

Yes and yes—treatments available include the usual suspects, like massages and facials, as well as salon services for both men and women. The Barber—an extension of the Pisterzi brand , which has locations in New York and Milan—and The Salon are the go-to spots for haircuts, shaves, manicures, and all grooming needs in between. (I heard nothing but rave reviews about The Barber from the men aboard—I heard some variation of “best shave of my life” every time.) There’s also a steam room and sauna (one of each for men and women), which you can enjoy even without another treatment booked.

I’m always carrying around a tight back, so I was delighted to be treated to a deep muscle massage and finally feel my shoulders fall below my ears. Before my treatment, my massage therapist asked the usual questions—any injuries, which spots needed the most work, etc.—but then she applied two different oils and asked which I liked better. The one I chose meant my body needed relaxing, naturally. During the treatment, there was a bowl of rose petals on the floor below my head, which I found to be a nice touch. The massage itself was just the amount of pressure I like—a lot—without verging into too much . Afterward, the steam room and sauna were offered to me, but I was eager to heat up by the pool instead.

The RitzCarlton Yacht Collection

What about activities and entertainment?

You won’t find a theater or auditorium onboard Ilma and that’s because life is best lived on the decks, so I found—catching sun by one of the two pools or taking advantage of the adult playground that is the “aquabana”—a floating lounge space off the aft of the ship where you can swim in the sea, kayak, paddleboard, or relax with your feet in the water under one of the cabanas. These are common on private yachts , and in keeping with giving passengers a taste of the yachting lifestyle, Ilma acquired the largest one made yet (so I’m told).

There was plenty of live music throughout the voyage: a DJ by the pool deck or a live band in the Living Room— Ilma ’s central lounge space with a coffee bar and rotating gelato flavors by day and a busy cocktail bar by night.

When you’ve had enough sun (hard to imagine, I know), there’s not only a gym but spinning and movement studios, all expanded on Ilma , due to their popularity on Evrima . I had the best intention of spending one morning testing out a treadmill, but whenever I walked by, it seemed like the other guests had it under control.

Instead, I power-walked the decks, taking in all the art—you can find an original Hockney, Warhol, and Picasso onboard—and window shopping at the Bvlgari boutique.

How was the experience for families?

Surprisingly welcoming! I did not expect to see so many families on board, but there was dedicated programming for children through Ritz Kids , as well as a number of children simply enjoying the amenities alongside the rest of us: dancing, swimming, and sipping juices.

The RitzCarlton Yacht Collection

Where did it sail and how were the excursions? Did anything stand out?

We sailed from Barcelona to Saint-Tropez, where we anchored overnight, before disembarking in Monte Carlo. The overnight port call in Saint-Tropez gave us plenty of time for both planned excursions, which ranged from winery tours to a pastry-making class, and taking the tender into town for your own exploring.

For my excursion, I took a tour of nearby Port Grimaud, a planned community built in the ‘60s with a network of canals meant to mimic Venice , followed by a seafood tasting at a local restaurant before grabbing an digestif along the harbor back in Saint-Tropez with some of my fellow tour mates. What I really appreciated was how much time to wander we were given on our tour—we had portions of planned activities, like a boat tour through the aforementioned canals, but plenty of time for our own discovery.

Are there any stand out sustainability or green initiatives about this cruise?

Ilma is the first build in the collection to have a specialized gas system installed, which makes it flexible for current—and future—sustainable fuels, like bio- or synthetic fuels, and the next member of the fleet, Luminara (launching in 2025), will have the same.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking.

A voyage on Ilma is worth booking to experience the luxury of the yachting lifestyle wherever, whenever—with the full service of a hotel.

First guest: Ilma, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Yacht and Boat

Start out with the big picture – what is this cruise line known for?

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is new to the cruising scene . Its first superyacht,  Evrima , launched in 2022, and  Ilma  is the second in its quickly expanding fleet. The collection is meant to provide all the luxury and freedom of a private yacht with the refinement and service Ritz-Carlton is known for. And I have to say they’re nailing it – I truly felt like I was aboard a yacht more than a cruise ship. All of the spaces are designed with intimacy in mind, and you can tell.

Tell us about the ship in general .

She’s sleek, sexy, and has a hotelier’s touch. I stayed at Hôtel Arts Barcelona, a Ritz-Carlton flagship before Ilma departed, and being onboard felt like a natural extension of the hotel. Everything felt comfortable, but not at the expense of style. My mind immediately goes to the director-style dining chairs on deck outside Mistral, the restaurant on deck 10, which were not only designed specifically for Ilma – sleek chrome for the base and classic nautical stripes for the cushions – but improved upon from Evrima for new dimensions catering to comfort. I also can’t rave enough about the linens throughout the ship, from the napkins to the sheets to the bathrobe (more on this later).

All of the decks on board are expansive but never feel overcrowded – the loungers, couches and tables are arranged to create pockets of intimate spaces, so you never feel like there are 400 other passengers onboard. There are 10 decks total, the upper deck (10) and lower decks (3-5) being the most social – the main pool deck is on top, with loungers spanning along both sides of the ship and smaller tables between. At the bow, there’s the observation deck, cleverly hidden on the far side of the swimming pool , with couches and its own bar. It’s so private that you almost feel like you might be in the wrong place (replaced quickly by the feeling that this is now your little secret).

Every design decision feels purposeful because, of course, it is. Taking what they learned from Evrima and her guests, the Yacht Collection expanded much of Ilma ’s capacity to respond to what passengers gravitated toward the most, doubling the size of the fitness studios, the number of spa treatment rooms, and the number of loungers on deck, for which I was grateful. I was relieved not to have to wake up at dawn to stake my claim on a seat.

Who is on board?

Mostly couples, a few families, and a handful of solo travellers , all ranging in age. We had a lot of longtime Ritz loyalists, many who’d never cruised before, finally willing to give it a shot, thanks to Ilma .

Describe the cabins .

Spacious, airy, plenty of room to breathe. My cabin – a Grand Suite – had both dining and living areas and a bedroom that I could close off while sleeping, avoiding any gorgeous Mediterranean sunlight let in by the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door too early in the morning. Running the whole width of the suite, the door opened onto a balcony to rival the decks above. I had two loungers and two armchairs all to myself, of which I made ample use.

I appreciated the two separate closet spaces (more than I have in my current apartment) with drawers and hanging space – with enough hangers! – in addition to open shelving, which I used for easy access to the items I reached for the most: jewellery, bags, and a sarong for the pool.

As for the linens, they were all from Frette , including the bathrobe, which now has the distinction of being the most comfortable robe I’ve ever used and made me realize how scratchy other robes turn out to be.

The colour scheme was, like the rest of the superyacht, refined and understated – soft greys, whites, with a pop of colour from the teal couch.

I relished using the Diptyque products in the bathroom during every shower. However, I did have to hunt for the waste bin, which turned out not to be a separate receptacle but a drawer that was part of the vanity and took some getting used to.

Tell us about the crew.

They were attentive and engaged but not overbearing and often knew what I wanted before I did (thinking of the iced oat milk latte I was offered one morning on the pool deck – it was just what I needed). We were told some of the crew had come from other Ritz properties, and I could tell a few were still getting their sea legs but were well on their way to adapting to the ship.

My suite ambassador, Horacio, was a particular standout. He always anticipated what I’d need for the coming day – an extra bottle of Moët early on, then a fresh bottle of sparkling water later. He also ensured my welcome-night dress was freshly pressed for dinner and the following party, which I was especially grateful for, as there was no iron in the suite (there are two in the guest launderette, though).

What food and drink options are available on board?

You’ll never want for a drink or snack on Ilma . There are five restaurants, all with distinctive types of cuisine – Tides, Memorī, Beach House, Mistral, and the pièce de resistance: Seta su Ilma . Headed up by Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi, Seta is the only restaurant on board that requires an additional fee to dine there. I’d recommend making a reservation as soon as you embark.

I experienced Seta (and it truly is an experience ) on my last night on the superyacht; it was quite the send-off. Dinner is an 11-course tasting menu with a wine pairing for every course, so everyone told me to eat light the day of, and I’m glad I did, especially since my favourite course (Wagyu beef calabrese) came last before dessert. Seta was the most intimate of the restaurants, with around 40 seats, and all of the tables had staggered seating times. Our (chatty) table was one of the later seats, and we closed the restaurant.

And when you’re more parched than peckish, there are six bars aboard, most adjacent to their respective restaurants. My favourite was the Marina Bar, in the aft of the ship. Two of the walls transform out into open-air decks with glass panelling beneath you, so you can get a glimpse of the water below while you sip your cocktail of choice (mine was naturally a piña colada).

Is there a spa on board, and is it worth visiting?

Yes and yes – treatments available include the usual suspects, like massages and facials, and salon services for both men and women. The Barber – an extension of the Pisterzi brand, which has locations in New York and Milan – and The Salon are the go-to spots for haircuts, shaves, manicures, and all grooming needs in between. (I heard nothing but rave reviews about The Barber from the men aboard – I heard some variation of “best shave of my life” every time.) There’s also a steam room and sauna (one of each for men and women), which you can enjoy even without another treatment booked.

I’m always carrying around a tight back, so I was delighted to be treated to a deep muscle massage and finally feel my shoulders fall below my ears. Before my treatment, my massage therapist asked the usual questions – any injuries, which spots needed the most work, etc. – but then she applied two different oils and asked which I liked better. The one I chose meant my body needed relaxing, naturally. During the treatment, there was a bowl of rose petals on the floor below my head, which I found to be a nice touch. The massage itself was just the amount of pressure I like – a lot – without verging into too much . Afterwards, the steam room and sauna were offered to me, but I was eager to heat up by the pool instead.

What about activities and entertainment?

You won’t find a theatre or auditorium onboard Ilma, and that’s because life is best lived on the decks, so I found – catching sun by one of the two pools or taking advantage of the adult playground that is the “aquabana” – a floating lounge space off the aft of the ship where you can swim in the sea, kayak, paddleboard, or relax with your feet in the water under one of the cabanas. These are common on private yachts, and in keeping with giving passengers a taste of the yachting lifestyle, Ilma acquired the largest one made yet (so I’m told).

There was plenty of live music throughout the voyage: a DJ by the pool deck or a live band in the Living Room – Ilma ’s central lounge space with a coffee bar and rotating gelato flavours by day and a busy cocktail bar by night.

When you’ve had enough sun (hard to imagine, I know), there’s not only a gym but spinning and movement studios, all expanded on Ilma , due to their popularity on Evrima . I had the best intention of spending one morning testing a treadmill, but whenever I walked by, it seemed like the other guests had it under control.

Instead, I power-walked the decks, taking in all the art – you can find an original Hockney, Warhol, and Picasso onboard – and window-shopping at the Bvlgari boutique.

How was the experience for families?

Surprisingly welcoming! I did not expect to see so many families on board, but there was dedicated programming for children through Ritz Kids , as well as several children simply enjoying the amenities alongside the rest of us: dancing, swimming, and sipping juices.

Where did it sail and how were the excursions? Did anything stand out?

We sailed from Barcelona to Saint-Tropez , where we anchored overnight before disembarking in Monte Carlo. The overnight port call in Saint-Tropez gave us plenty of time for both planned excursions, which ranged from winery tours to a pastry-making class and taking the tender into town for your own exploring.

For my excursion, I took a tour of nearby Port Grimaud, a planned community built in the ‘60s with a network of canals meant to mimic  Venice , followed by a seafood tasting at a local restaurant before grabbing a digestif along the harbour back in Saint-Tropez with some of my fellow tour mates. I appreciated how much time we were given on our tour to wander – we had portions of planned activities, like a boat tour through the aforementioned canals, but plenty of time for our discovery.

Are there any stand-out sustainability or green initiatives related to this cruise?

Ilma is the first build in the collection to have a specialised gas system installed, which makes it flexible for current – and future – sustainable fuels, like bio- or synthetic fuels, and the next member of the fleet, Luminara (launching in 2025), will have the same.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking.

A voyage on Ilma is worth booking to experience the luxury of the yachting lifestyle wherever, whenever – with the full service of a hotel.
