Welcome to the Anchorage Yacht Club

2023 marks the 95th anniversary of The Anchorage Yacht Club. Anchorage was formed in 1928 by a group of civilians who had mooring privileges at Great Lakes Naval Base. In 1935 a 17 foot dinghy named the “Moffett” in honor of William A. Moffett, Base Commandant, was designed for the Club. The boats were built by Bill Quigley, a furniture maker located nearby on Green Bay Road. By 1937, a fleet of fifteen Moffett’s was racing every weekend. World War II closed the base to civilians. After the War, sailing resumed with emphasis switching to larger boats and handicap racing on Thursday evenings. Civilian access to Great Lakes was again significantly restricted after September 11, 2001. Fortunately, Waukegan Harbor was nearby. Local members can also be found in many other harbors between Great Lakes and Racine.  Most Anchorage members moved their boats to Waukegan, where activities continued. Anchorage membership and participation in Club events is open to all local harbor patrons.

Anchorage is a member of LMSRF, USSA, and Yachting Club of America and represented on the MWPHRF.  

Membership is open to any person who has demonstrated a commitment to yachting and has participated in club activities for a year. The Thursday Night Race for Fun is currently open to non-members -- for more information see the racing link on this site. For an application for invitation to the club, click here.

Wonderful staff. Wonderful service. Food was great and facilities are clean. Management and staff are top notch!

Takes awhile but great drinks and Pizza. Views are wonderful, sit at upper deck. Great Marina with lots of wonderful people. Having best Summer.

Grand Haven Slip Reservation Information

Please consider reserving your slip at Grand Haven Marina now!

Since the marina reservation system is now part of the Michigan State Parks Reservation System (https://midnrreservations.com/ ), we no longer can reserve a block of slips for the Anchorage Cup racers. However, it is easy to reserve online, and the full cost, less the $8 reservation fee, is refundable up to 24 hours before the day of your arrival.

At their site , choose “Harbor” and “Grand Haven Marina” and the other information requested. You can choose the slip you prefer from a map or list.

Please note that you need to put at least the minimum length accepted at that slip for your boat, even if your boat is shorter than that. For example, if you choose a 36’ slip and have a 30’ boat, you need to state that your boat is 36’ when you reserve the slip. This is an issue with the reservation system. After you tie off, you can go to the marina office and request a refund for the difference in cost. In this example, the difference is 6’at the charged rate of $2.06 per foot = $12.36.

Please reserve soon. It probably is worth the $8 you are risking to get the slip you want for a safe and comfortable night in Grand Haven.
