BALTIC 175 PINK GIN INNOVATION ON A LARGER SCALE

The spectacular and innovative silver-hulled sloop was launched in july 2017, following a complex build programme of precision engineering and building. Pink Gin is not only the largest carbon fibre sloop in the world, but also displays some of the most innovative features seen in a sailing yacht, including two opening balconies set into the topsides, Baltic Yachts’ revolutionary Force Feedback Steering System and an 18-ton carbon composite hull and deck shell built to the highest degree of accuracy.

This is the second largest yacht Baltic Yachts has built in its history and is a perfect example of the company’s ability to innovate on a large scale using their in depth skills in composite construction.

Baltic 175 Pink Gin represents what Baltic Yachts stands for in terms of build quality, advanced construction techniques and special features, which have challenged our engineers and designers to make the seemingly impossible possible.

The project brought together the same design team responsible for the Baltic 152 Pink Gin, benefitting from the performance pedigree of naval architects judel/vrolijk & co. and the inventiveness of Design Unlimited for the stunning interior and cockpit ergonomics.

ULTIMATE PICTURE WINDOW - TOPSIDES HULL OPENINGS

Living al fresco is no longer restricted to being on deck. At the touch of a button Baltic 175 Pink Gin’s owner can access the fresh air and sea as a panel in the topsides is hydraulically opened to create the ultimate picture window and a personal bathing platform, literally adding a new dimension to the owner’s suite.

A similar arrangement exists on the port side of the main saloon, providing a stunning entry to the yacht’s large lobby. Each door becomes part of the yacht’s load bearing structure through their locking pins and hinges. Finite element analysis was used to ensure class approved engineering.

FORCE FEEDBACK STEERING SYSTEM

Large yachts need hydraulic power to turn their rudders. A drawback is that the helmsman loses the ‘feel’ in the helm, something that lies at the heart of enjoying the sailing experience. We have found a way to re-create this feel to keep the owner in touch with his yacht. Together with experts from the automotive industry we have designed a steering system that mimics the side forces on the rudder and transfers the ‘feel’ electronically to the yacht’s wheel

The Baltic 175 Pink Gin, the world’s largest carbon fibre sloop, embarked on an unusual maiden voyage – by road. She was safely transported over a distance of 21km by a specialist low-loader from Baltic Yachts’ inland manufacturing site at Bosund to our waterfront yard in Jakobstad in preparation for final fit out and launching.

Baltic 175 Pink Gin was successfully launched at our waterfront facility in Pietarsaari in May 2017.

Baltic 175 Pink Gin started her maiden voyage in July 2017 when she was delivered.

WELCOME HOME

Baltic 175 Pink Gin returned to Finland for some scheduled maintenance in April 2020. Every bit as breathtaking as the day she was launched, the boat arrived looking immaculate after an uneventful transatlantic, having participated in the Superyacht Challenge Antigua in March. The video shows her approach and arrival in Pietarsaari, where we welcomed the crew with a traditional Finnish sauna and refreshments.

Pink Gin measures 46.23 metres in length, with a max draft of 6.10 metres and a beam of 8.45 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 219 tonnes. She has a deck material of teak.

Pink Gin has a GRP hull with a GRP superstructure.

Judel / Vrolijk & Co. is an internationally reputable naval architecture and design studio based in Germany. Founded bby Rolf E. Vrolijk and Fietje Judel in 1978, Judel / Vrolijk & Co. has risen through the ranks to its position today as one of the most widely regarded offices specialising in high-calibre sailing yachts.

Her interior design is by Design Unlimited.

Pink Gin VI Might Just Be The Panther’s Superyacht

It sure looks that way, doesn’t it? The brilliant team at Baltic Yachts has done it yet again, pushing the boundaries of design to the next level to come up with this innovative yacht. Called Pink Gin VI, this magnificent vessel benefits from the world’s largest carbon fibre sloop and many other firsts, but although it looks dreamy, it was probably a nightmare to transform into reality.

Life on board the new Pink Gin was meant to be fun, 100% natural and extremely comfortable and it sure looks like that. Designed to cruise at 12-14 knots, this pink beauty could reach even higher speeds when needed, while keeping the passengers on board safe and sound.

The massive 53.9-meter all-carbon sloop allows Pink Gin to show off two large hull openings, one forward on the starboard side of the master suite, and another midships to port. Each hatch acts as a part of the hull, instead of diverting stresses around them – an interesting solution, don’t you think?

The sailing experience is even more enjoyable thanks to the hydraulic-assisting solutions that provide the helmsman with vital information and none of the hassle.

On the inside, British studio Design Unlimited came up with a delightful fusion of fabrics, tastes, and textures – according to the owner’s specifications. There are even two custom Murano glass chandeliers and that’s definitely something you don’t expect to see on a yacht.

Fashion, art, and music were also a part of the inspiration, with materials chosen for their ability to age and create a homely vibe on-board – a baby grand piano and a resin-trapped floral table, handcrafted sliding doors in the master suite and more goodies make this superyacht look more like a luxurious hotel than a joyous means of transportation. The Pink Panther has yet to be spotted on-board.

How Is Gin Made?

Wondering how gin is made?

Any gin starts life as a neutral (often grain-based) spirit. It’s essentially pure ethanol, and then flavours are added through a process called re-distillation. Gin can be made in a column or pot still.

We like to think of gin as “vodka steeped in an aromatic tea bag.” Expert distillers essentially heat pure alcohol (vodka) so it passes through a large “tea bag” filled with unique spices, herbs and citrus peel. When the pure alcohol comes in contact with this bundle of flavourful ingredients it takes on a unique gin flavour.

The flavourings can be steeped for as long as 48 hours, although some producers will distill the liquid almost immediately. Once completed, water is added to reduce the distillate to bottling strength.

Gin Ingredients

So what are the most common ingredients in gin?

Gin derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries, also known as juniperus communis.

Other popular botanicals or flavourings used in gin making, besides the required juniper, often include citrus elements, such as lemon and bitter orange peel, as well as a combination of other spices, which may include anise, angelica root and seed, orris root, licorice root, cinnamon, almond, cubeb, savory, lime peel, grapefruit peel, dragon eye, saffron, baobab, frankincense, coriander, grains of paradise, nutmeg and cassia bark.

We’ve visited a handful of gin distilleries in Britain as well as a chic gin cocktail bar at the  Shangri-La Hotel in Taipei . The gin craze has officially travelled from England to  North America ,  Asia  and beyond!

In Scotland we visited Edinburgh Gin for a tour and tasting before enjoying a road trip to the  Isle of Islay , which is best known for its famous  Islay whisky distilleries . Our quick & easy homemade Moscow Mule with Gin recipe is made with fresh and premium ingredients:

• Gin : we suggest using Bombay Sapphire, Aviation Gin or Tanqueray.
• Ginger Beer : use a Caribbean style non-alcoholic ginger beer such as Fever Tree or The Great Jamaican Ginger Beer Co .
• Simple Syrup : we prepare our own homemade simple syrup but you could add an additional ginger zing with Organic Ginger Syrup by The Ginger People .
• Lime Juice : we always suggest juicing fresh limes as you’ll taste the difference. Do not use store bought lime juice!
• Mint : pluck fresh mint from your garden or purchase a few sprigs at your grocery store or farmers market.

Moscow Mule with Gin Cocktail

• Cocktail Shaker
• Cocktail spoon
• Highball Glass

Ingredients

• 2 oz Gin
• 4 oz Ginger Beer
• 1 oz Lime Juice
• 1 oz Simple Syrup
• 8 Mint Leaves
• Mint Sprig garnish
• Lime slice garnish

Instructions

• In a cocktail shaker, add the mint leaves, lime juice and simple syrup. Muddle with a cocktail spoon to release the herby aroma.
• Add the gin and fill the shaker with ice. Shake well, 45-60 seconds.
• Strain into a highball glass filled with ice cubes.
• Top with ginger beer and garnish with a mint sprig and lime slice.

The Best Moscow Mule Recipe

Can we talk for a minute about my very favorite cocktail to make and make variations of?? It is of course THE MOSCOW MULE!

The Moscow Mule drink is such a popular cocktail right now! Probably because they are so easy to make, they come in a fun copper mug and they are absolutely delicious! Because they are made with just a few simple ingredients, it is very easy to make fun twists on them. Last summer I made these amazing Frozen Moscow Mules . They are made with only three ingredients and make a big batch so they are perfect for parties!

But you really can’t beat the original Moscow Mule recipe.

How to Make a Moscow Mule

What’s in a Moscow Mule, you ask? A Moscow Mule combines three simple ingredients:

• Vodka: I prefer Titos when making our Moscow Mules
• Lime Juice: Though freshly squeezed is the preferred way to go, you can certainly use bottled as that is sometimes easier to keep on hand.
• Ginger Beer: The best ginger beer for a Moscow Mule can be debated forever. I love Crabbies, as you can see pictured here. I’ve also used (and enjoyed) Sprecher Hard Ginger Beer. Both of those have alcohol in them and make for a stronger drink. If you prefer a milder drink, you can use a non alcoholic ginger beer, Fever Tree is a great brand.

If you can’t find ginger beer or if you prefer a slightly sweeter drink, that isn’t quite as strong, you can replace the ginger beer with ginger ale. It won’t be the original Moscow Mule, but it will be delicious.

What is the History of the Moscow Mule?

Though everyone thinks of the Moscow Mule as a drink that came from Russia, it was actually born in the United States. It came together with three people in Hollywood looking to market three things: copper mugs, ginger beer, and vodka. I bet they had no idea what a genius combination they had and how far it would go.

Why Does a Moscow Mule have to be in a Copper Mug?

Though the mule certainly doesn’t have to be in a copper mug , the reason it continues to be served that way is because the copper keeps the drink nice and cold, and it certainly tastes best ice cold. Not only that, copper mugs are just cool.

Moscow Mule Variations

One of my favorite things about the Moscow Mule recipe is how many great variations you can make of it.

• Moscow Mule with Gin :  This might be my absolute favorite variation, but I’ve always been gin lover.
• Frozen Moscow Mules : As I mentioned above, this is a really popular recipe and perfect for a party.
• Tropical Moscow Mules :  It’s like a Moscow Mule and a Pina Colada had a baby. A delicious amazing baby.
• Jalapeño Moscow Mules :  I LOVE this recipe. It starts with my Jalapeno Infused Vodka ! So so so yummy!
• Champagne Moscow Mule : If you love a good bubbly cocktail, you have to try this one!
• Tequila Mule :  Like the BEST margarita recipe and Moscow Mules had a baby. I’m super into procreating cocktails.
• Cherry Moscow Mules : This one is pretty simple, but sometimes simple is best. You’ll love it!
• Kentucky Mule : Love whiskey? You will LOVE this recipe!
• Irish Moscow Mule: If you love Bourbon, you need to make this!

Ingredients

• 1 1/2 ounces vodka
• 1/2 cup ginger beer see note
• 1/2 ounce lime juice
• 1 lime wedge for garnish optional

Instructions

• Combine all ingredients in a glass or copper mug and garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy!

Every photo shows mint – yet it’s not listed in the ingredients.

That is because it makes a pretty garnish, but it isn’t at all necessary for you to enjoy the recipe and I would hate for readers to spend the extra money on ingredients that aren’t necessary.

I can’t find frozen limeade concentrate. What could I substitute?

You can use really any juice concentrate, it just won’t be frozen Moscow Mules without the limeade. You need that lime flavor for Moscow Mules. But we have a Pink Party Punch version of this and a Frozen Vodka Lemonade version on our sister site, Shake Drink Repeat.
