Motor Yacht

Luxury motor yacht Amnesia III, built in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, carries all the elegance and luxury extras flaunted by her sister ships but with a slightly more contemporary edge. With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she features exterior design by Benetti while her interior is the work of Redman Whiteley Dixon. This impressive vessel measures 60 metres and can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Motor yacht Amnesia III is the third of four current yachts in the Amnesia line built for Graham de Zille, with each successive one featuring evolutionary design elements. The first Amnesia, a 50 metre model, was launched in 2000 and the 55 metre Amnesia II was delivered in 2003. The 65 metre Amnesia IV has now also been launched.

The luxury superyacht boasts an extensive layout that encompasses two large saloons, one on the upper deck and one on the lower. The main saloon creates an ideal entertaining area with its dining room, two lounge areas and widescreen LCD television. Silk cushions add an extra touch of elegance while earthy-coloured Roman shades cover the windows.

Up from the main deck one level is the bridge deck which houses a massage room and a VIP suite. The upper saloon provides great views via its rectangular portholes and is home to a bar, games table, lounge and sofa areas and a large coffee table, all set-off by dark wooden floors and striped carpets. The deck is also home to a sky lounge kitted out with a bar, games table and sofas.

The sundeck atop Amnesia III is hard to ignore, with its highlight perhaps being the massive Jacuzzi with three underwater leather-seated bar stools and colour changing lights that turn the water from deep greens to shocking pink. For relaxing, there are sun pads forward and sunbeds aft, alongside a casual lounge and dining area. An air conditioned gym can also be found in the deck’s centre. Living up to its name as a true sundeck, the area hosts no permanent biminis but rather features movable umbrellas that provide the only shade.

The interior theme of Amnesia III is classically modern, dressed in medium-toned hardwood and contrasting walnut of a darker shade across furniture and door frames. Black marble has been cleverly used to highlight certain areas of the spacious interior.

Amongst her six cabins are an indulgent owner’s suite; a VIP suite; two double staterooms; and two twin staterooms. Located forward on the main deck, the owner’s suite includes his and hers bathrooms, spacious dressing rooms, a private study and a sitting room with flat-screen television. Found on the bridge deck, the VIP suite can also be split into two separate cabins with twin beds if needed. The four remaining guest cabins are located on the bottom deck.

Featuring a dedicated crew, Amnesia III is an excellent charter yacht for luxury vacations. The yacht cruises comfortably at 15 knots while her crew of 16 ensure the needs of every guest are met.

The luxury motor yacht is equipped with an armada of water toys to provide endless entertainment during any yacht charter. Onboard water toys include water skis, floating pad, floating trampoline, sailing dinghies, wave runner, tenders, a catamaran and a full range of scuba and snorkelling equipment.

Amnesia III cruises the Caribbean during the winter charter season and the West Mediterranean during the summer.

60m superyacht Amnesia sold by Burgess and Edmiston

Now here's a great way to kick off September as Alev Karagulle at Burgess says that the sale of Benetti's 60m motor yacht Amnesia  closed today, with Burgess representing the seller and also acting for the buyer in collaboration with Edmiston & Company.

It's also a remarkably quick sale, considering that this superyacht entered the market in early May 2010. And now for the yacht herself:

The ultimate superyacht with universal appeal, Amnesia represents the latest in an acclaimed series of yachts from Benetti, developed for an experienced owner and delivered in 2008. Well-conceived, innovative design by Redman Whiteley Dixon results in a spacious, elegant superyacht.

Contemporary, elegant styling runs throughout the light and spacious interior while fantastic open decks, a vast Jacuzzi and excellent sun-lounging spaces provide a host of facilities for life outdoors. Accommodation is provided for 12 guests in six large, airy cabins configured as a master suite, VIP suite (convertible to twin), two doubles and two twins with additional Pullman berths in each.

A highly successful charter yacht, Amnesia was conceived and designed with charter in mind and carries the latest audiovisual and communications systems, along with a vast array of watersports equipment, a fully-equipped gymnasium and a dedicated, tranquil massage room. And, before I forget, the asking price was €39.5 million.

Benetti after-sales department : An after-sales department has been born at Benetti. The department will cater to their worldwide fleet of yachts in after-delivery works. The aim is to create a consistent atmosphere of quality management between design, build and operation of their brand luxury yachts. Afer-sales manager, Alessandro Gallifuoco confirms that "we will co-ordinate and supervise all warranty works executed on the yachts, whether in our boatyards, at our base in Ft Lauderdale, or through an established network of trusted suppliers worldwide." The process will be controlled from headquarters in Viareggio. The after-sales department operates in unison with the technical and production sectors in the various Benetti shipyards. The yards being in Viareggio, Livorno and Fano. The Benetti 50-meter "Alibella" seems to have been renamed to "Plantinum". I thought that Platinum was a new-build by Benetti though with build number FB238 according to the website. But the thing is that "Alibella" was built under that same number, so it is confusing. So she was simply renamed as Plantinum why does Benetti have it set out as if she is a new build?

Benetti Tradition 105' Benetti introduces the Tradition 105... One of a kind. Its compact dimensions and well-designed layout enclose the design solutions, technical equipment and practical, comfortable spaces typical of larger yachts. Tradition 105' features three and a half decks, but the sun deck is so large and practical that it can guarantee the same comfort as a whole deck. Thanks to the excellent interior layout and its 31 metres of length, guests can enjoy spacious living areas, like in the main deck where the dining area is separated from the living space. Great comfort even in the belowdeck, where four large guest cabins, two VIPs and two double rooms are arranged towards the yacht centre, along with practical crew paths optimised to meet working demands. The crew area has been just as well designed, perfectly comfortable for the five crew members. Tradition 105' boasts a shipowner's cabin typical of larger models, a real suite with a spacious dressing room, bathroom with bathtub, shower and separate toilet. The sun deck is totally dedicated to pure relaxation and sunbathing throughout the whole deck width. Also featuring a jacuzzi swimming pool with a private area facing directly to the bow. Benetti elegance is confirmed by the exterior design renewed by Stefano Righini and marked by large, continuous windows, with extended openings on the hull too. The shipowner and his guests can enjoy beautiful panoramic views thanks to a number of locations facing out over the sea. The interior decor has been designed by François Zuretti in two different versions: 'Classica' or 'Moderna', using new styles and original models to create elegant, refined environments involving interesting plays of natural light. Tradition 105' has excellent sailing features, and thanks to the reduced draught, it is possible to navigate into more protected marine areas, granting the most relaxing sail possible here too. Recieved this update from the factory this morning. On Wednesday November 25, 2009, Viareggio gave a warm welcome to the hull of the Delfino - the first model in the new Benetti Class product line, which will be launched in the summer of 2010. The Delfino is a large ship in a small format. With its dimensions, it is a unique vessel because it contains the design solutions, technical equipment, and practical, comfortable environments that are typical of larger ships with a greater volume. The innovative exterior look stylishly executed by Stefano Righini features large, continuous windows that enable the shipowner and his guests to enjoy breathtaking panoramas at numerous points overlooking the sea. The interior designed by the Galeazzi Studio is offered in both modern and classic decorative styles, with highly elegant details and furniture. The first ship in the series will be outfitted entirely at the Azimut-Benetti facilities in Viareggio.

A new contract for a 57.5-meter Benetti apparently has been recently signed through Ocean Independence. She will take the hull ID FB257 and have a design by Benetti and an interior by Evan K Marshall. Completion is expected in just under three years. ​

Benetti is currently working on finishing one of the next yachts to launch from their brand. She is to be called "Bistango" and measures 62-meters LOA. She is said to be nearng completion as she is expected to be available for Summer charter in the Med. ​ Burgess

The Benetti "Quantum of Solace" (ex. "Midlandia") now has a white hull, replacing the dark blue she had originally.

In the "Eclipse interior" thread that was just started, a link to a website has pictures of the interior of "Lady Lara" this is the first time I have seen pics of her interior. However, I do not think it would be wise to post a link to that website. After searching some more, there are a few other sites that have pictures but I still think I would not post a link to them because of the nature of those sites...

When is the new "Amnesia" (Amnesia IV) to launch? I know she is scheduled to launch in 2010 but when? Interestingly the current Amnesia (III) recently went up for sale, so maybe the new one could be delivering in a few months? Anyone else have any further accurate information regarding this build?

The Benetti 60-meter "Amnesia" was recently sold a few months ago as many of you know and interestingly she has now been acquired by Liveras Yachts. She has been renamed "Andreas L" obviously in memory of Mr. Liveras and to replace the also recently sold "Lauren L" from their fleet.

The 52-meter "Latinou" is now called "Latitude" as far as I know...

Benetti has a beautifully redone new-look website now. The URL remains the same. Really nice presentation there... If you had not have enough of "Bistango" lovely pics on the new builder's website...

The True Story Behind 'Overboard' Is Much Darker Than You'd Expect

• Overboard has an unbelievable premise with an unethical but sweet storyline.
• The movie is loosely based on a real incident where a woman with amnesia washed ashore in Florida.
• Creative liberties were taken with the true story, turning it into a romantic extravaganza for the big screen, despite the real story being quite devastating.

Rom-coms are a staple sub-genre in film , from timeless classics such as Breakfast At Tiffany’s and It Happened One Night , to more modern-day favorites such as How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Anyone But You . Audiences can’t get enough of them, whether it be for the swoon-worthy romances or the humor intermingled with it, there’s no denying rom-coms will forever have our hearts. But considering how off the walls some rom-coms can get, it can be a little surprising to learn that some are more based in reality than you may expect. 50 First Dates is one of the best known examples of a rom-com that was loosely based on a true story , and given its almost unbelievable storyline it can be hard to wrap your head around such a fact. But there’s another rom-com that may just give 50 First Dates a run for its money in terms of the true story it takes inspiration from, and that’s the 1987 film Overboard .

Overboard Has an Unbelievable Premise

Released in 1987, Overboard was directed by rom-com veteran Garry Marshall , whose credits went on to include films such as Beaches (released the year after Overboard), Pretty Woman , Runaway Bride , The Princess Diaries , and more . Written by Leslie Dixon , Overboard stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell — a real-life couple — in the lead roles. Hawn plays Joanna, a wealthy socialite, while Russell plays Dean, a carpenter and widowed father of four sons. While waiting for her yacht to be repaired, Joanna hires Dean to remodel her closet, but even though he provides impeccable work, she talks down to him and gives him a hard time for the pettiest of reasons, such as using oak instead of cedar wood. He offers to redo the closet to her specifications so long as he’s paid for his previous work, something of which should be no trouble considering she’s practically dripping with wealth and makes sure everyone knows it. She refuses though, and the pair end up in a nasty fight, which results in Joanna pushing Dean (and then his tools) into the water. But later that night, Joanna herself falls overboard and is fished out of the water, only to wake up in the hospital with no recollection of what happened, where she is, or who she is.

You Know You Want Details on Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal's New Rom-Com

Rom-coms are far from over, and this next love triangle drama will be carrying on the torch.

Dean overhears the story on the news and, seeking revenge for how she treated him on the yacht, decides to take advantage of her memory loss and use it to his advantage. He manages to convince the hospital that she is his wife, and the mother of his four children, and brings her home to his less-than-glamorous home. Dean’s goal is to teach Joanna how to live a normal life and not just rely on her good looks and wealth, and though his way of doing so (a.k.a, blatantly lying to her) is certainly unethical, she does begin to warm to, not only Dean, but to his children, and their rambunctious way of life that is so different from her own. Even when she gets her memory back, after the typical third-act conflict where she and Dean argue about him tricking her and lying to her, she longs for that life with Dean and his boys. It has its ethical issues, but Overboard is still an entertaining and sweet rom-com and no doubt a classic. But did you know that it was based on a true story?

Overboard Is Loosely Based On a True Story

In 2017, a Vanity Fair interview with the movie’s screenwriter Leslie Dixon revealed the little-known fact that the movie was “based on a real incident in which a woman with amnesia washed ashore in Florida.” That was all Vanity Fair shared on the story, but if you really dig into it, you can find more information on the woman who washed ashore. In 1981, a woman was found naked, filthy, and dehydrated in a Florida park. According to the article pulled from the UPI Archives, the young woman was found near death in Birch State Park and had no recollection of her life prior to the accident. “I try to remember and I can't. I try to recall if I went to school, if I had any friends... I don't seem to have an interest, I don't seem to form a pattern.”

The woman was eventually identified as Cheryl Tomiczek , who was 34 years old at the time of her accident. And despite Overboard ’s plot taking inspiration from her story, what happened to her was anything but cinematic. In the same UPI article, she was quoted saying she felt as though she had no parents because she had a feeling of being left alone in the world. This ended up not being the case as her parents, Irene and Andrew Tomiczek , recognized her and came to Florida to claim their missing daughter. Her memory was slow to come back, but with the help of her parents, they took it day by day to help her work through the new challenge in her life. In another UPI archived piece , her parents shared how she was adjusting post-accident, saying,

We're taking one day at a time. I'm not going to make her do anything she doesn't want to do. Also adding that shes very content and wants to get involved.

So it's safe to say that while Overboard certainly took inspiration from Cheryl's story, it also took a lot of creative liberties, and somehow took what was a truly frightening and unheard of medical phenomenon, and turned it into a romantic extravaganza for the big screen .

I visited Astrakhan, the Russian MELTING POT of religions and ETHNICITIES (PHOTOS)

When we entered the ATR-72 twin engine turboprop aircraft for our evening flight from Sochi to Astrakhan, my friend Olga and I were a bit surprised to see the ethnic mix of passengers on board. Nordic, Southern European, Caucasian, Central Asian, West Asian and “typical Russian” features were all visible on the two-hour flight to the city by the Volga. As we were to find out over the next three days, Astrakhan, which has a population of 526,000, is home to members of 104 of Russia’s 120 ethnicities.

The small airport is just a 15-minute drive away from the city center and we were lucky to find an apartment in a well maintained Stalin-era building literally across the street from the Astrakhan kremlin.  

Walk around the city at night  

Our first task was to try out the much-hyped Caspian cuisine of the city.  Although it was only 9:30 pm on a Friday, the beautifully landscaped area that is near Lenin Square and borders the Kremlin was almost empty. Tastefully lit, the area had a distinct Mediterranean feel. With a bearable cold breeze and crystal clear air, I found the surroundings to be romantic, but my travel partner said she had an eerie feeling, since we hadn’t seen any others in the street. 

As we walked towards the riverside, we found our first Caspian-themed restaurant. Olga managed to calm down over a bottle of white wine and some local delicacies, such as sturgeon from the Volga Delta and ukha , which many restaurants label as the Tsar’s fish soup in their English menus.

The main activity at night in Astrakhan revolves around the streets leading to the Volga riverfront. This is where the youth of the city go clubbing or bar hopping. There were signs of nightlife in this stretch of the city, but we had seen far bigger crowds in much smaller Russian cities. Locals later told us that they took the pandemic more seriously than their counterparts in other parts of the country and, hence, there were so few people on the streets. 

Feel the diversity on display at the Kremlin 

On my first morning in the city, I set off on an exploratory run and was absolutely impressed with the city center. The square that was empty the previous night was a hub of exercise and sporting activity. Under clear blue skies and warm sun, I saw well-looked after flower beds and trees that had leaves of every fall color. The season of colors had come and gone from the northern parts of Russia in a hurry in 2021, but Astrakhan was still in mid-fall mode in November.

Later that morning, we decided to explore the impressive white Kremlin that towers over the city center. Standing on the Zayachy Hill, this massive fortress was originally built in the late 16th century and has been modified a few times since. Entry to the Kremlin, which opens at 7 am, is free and there are stalls where you can buy local handicrafts. I couldn’t resist buying a handcrafted wooden fridge magnet with an engraved image of this ancient fortress.  

The Kremlin is a great place to just roam around or sit on a bench and enjoy the great historical ambience, like many locals do, but we wanted to know more about this fascinating and well-preserved monument. So, we took a guided tour of the complex - in a golf cart! The modern-day Astrakhan Region was contested between various groups and empires until the middle of the 16th century, when it became a part of the southward-expanding Russian Empire. A knowledgeable guide shared many historical facts about the Kremlin and the city with us. 

After our tour, we were in for an unexpected audio visual treat. As the sun fought the grey fall clouds and warmed up the temperature to 18°C and the bells tolled from the Assumption Cathedral, a group of teenagers in various ethnic costumes came to the area near the church. Over the next 20 minutes, the colorful group performed a series of dances that reflected the cultures of various ethnic groups who call Astrakhan home.

We first saw a Russian folk dance, followed by a Tatar dance and then a performance of the indigenous peoples who inhabit Astrakhan Region. We were lucky to be in the Kremlin on the day the city was marking Russian National Unity Day . 

This ethnic diversity can be seen everywhere in Astrakhan, but nowhere it is more visible than in restaurants and bars, where you see groups of people from different backgrounds socialising and making merry.

Astrakhan is also known for its religious diversity. We went to two recently-renovated mosques that are just outside the historic city center. Non-Muslims are allowed to visit at non-prayer times. There seemed to be a strong Persian influence in the interior of these mosques, which is not surprising, given the fact that Iran is just across the Caspian Sea. The city also has an Iranian consulate and a Russian-Iranian banking joint venture. Some of the stores in the city sell imported Iranian candy. 

During our three-day stay in the city, we had a chance to get acquainted with people from Dagestan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. For those from other Caspian states, Astrakhan is seen as a logical entry point to Russia. In fact, several students from former Soviet countries study in the city.  

Enjoy the unique architecture  

The most interesting feature of Astrakhan is that no two streets in the historic center seem to resemble each other. A street full of early 1900s brownish-red brick structures is cut in half by a thoroughfare that has buildings that are a mix of Art Nouveau, Renaissance and Classicist architecture! Similarly, a walk by the outer walls of the 16th century Kremlin offers views of 19th century buildings that seem to have been transplanted from St. Petersburg.

Long-term residents say many of the heritage structures in the city were in a state of disrepair, until a decade ago, when Russian President Vladimir Putin took a personal interest in reviving the city, given its strategic location close to the Caspian Sea.  

The victory of the Soviet Union in the Battle of Stalingrad and the resulting halt of German troops advances into southern Russia helped save the older buildings of Astrakhan during World War II. The radius around the Kremlin and riverfront are European in character, but once you cross the canal, a totally different side of the city opens up. These areas have ethnic Persian and Tatar localities, locally known as ‘sloboda’. One gets a feeling of crossing over into an altogether different century when strolling past these areas with their wooden cottages and cosy courtyards.  

While there is a strong sense of community here, the area is lower middle class and, unfortunately, did not seem to have any ethnic Tatar or Persian-style cafes. We were told that the best place to sample this kind of food was the Tatar Bazar, which we could not visit. Locals in these ethnic enclaves apparently preferred to either cook at home or eat at food courts in shopping malls.

The classical Russian neighbourhoods in Astrakhan have a wide array of dining options, including an elegant restaurant named ‘Onegin’ (named after Alexander Pushkin’s famous novel in verse ‘Eugene Onegin’), which has 19th century style interiors, chandeliers, paintings of the greats of Russian literature and plays the music of Russian composers Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Plenty of other restaurants are themed around the Caspian Sea.  

Spend an evening by the Volga 

It goes without saying that the best place to spend an evening in the city is the riverside promenade. Runners, bicyclists, families, university students and pensioners all converge on this stretch in the early evening, as another day heads off into the night.  

The small islands that are visible from the promenade are home to a variety of birds that rush to find shelter in the trees before nightfall. As the river runs south towards the Caspian, nature is absolutely breathtaking. Visitors to Astrakhan in the warmer months often head to the Volga Delta, which is a biodiversity hotspot and home to various species of flora and fauna.   

We made it a point to catch the sunset by the Volga twice during our brief visit. Few experiences in Russia compare with seeing the red sun set behind the country’s most iconic river. The ensuing twilight paints the skies of Astrakhan with a unique shade of crimson.

Standing by the riverfront on my last evening in the city, my gaze went to the left, where some 100 kilometers south the great Volga empties into the Caspian Sea. This area has always been a major transit point connecting north and south, east and west. For several hundred years, it was the intersection of the east-west trade route north of the Caspian Sea and the north-south trade route down the Volga to Persia. I couldn’t help but think how the city had the potential to become a major business, logistics and tourism hub, if Russia, India, Iran and the Caspian littoral countries put a fresh impetus on developing the International North-South Corridor.   

Astrakhan, as it is, is still a special place where several cultures meet and blend. As a melting pot of religions and ethnicities, no city in Russia (outside of Moscow) represents the sheer diversity of this colossally large country as well as Astrakhan. The city’s communal harmony and amity set an example for many other parts of the world that are struggling to deal with the close interaction of various ethnic groups.

These picturesque photos were taken on one hot summer evening in the Volga River delta somewhere in the Astrakhan region . The delta of the Volga is the largest river delta in Europe and the 8th in the world.

Due to the lowering of the level of the Caspian Sea, the delta area has increased ninefold over the past 130 years. The unique flora and fauna of the delta (sturgeon, lotus, flamingo, Siberian cranes, pelicans) are under state protection as the Astrakhan Nature Reserve. Photos by: Fedor Lashkov .

Baskunchak – a unique salt lake

Baskunchak is a salt lake, with an area of about 115 square km, located in Akhtubinskiy district of Astrakhan region , about 270 km north of the Caspian Sea and 53 km to the east of the Volga River.

Salt extraction on the lake began in the 8th century. Lake Baskunchak was officially mentioned first time in 1627 in the first geographical description of Russia as a place “where they mine salt as pure as ice.” The view of the lake from the satellite . The photos were taken by Richard Zorge .

Salt Lake Baskunchak

Baskunchak is a salt lake located in Astrakhan region , about 270 km north of the Caspian Sea, and 53 km to the east of the Volga River.

The lake is a kind of hollow on top of the salt mountain. Numerous springs flow into the lake on the north-west coast bringing in the lake more than 2.5 thousand tons of salts per day. Baskunchak Lake location on Google Maps . Photos by Denis Frantsouzov

It seems you can find everything in Russia. For example, this unusual ship made of concrete found its last haven in the lower reaches of the Volga ( Astrakhan region ), a few kilometers from the Caspian Sea.

The hull of the ship is made of reinforced concrete. Those parts of the hull where concrete couldn’t be used were made of iron. This ship is not unique. In a number of countries different concrete ships were designed and built during periods of acute shortage of metal. Photos by zhgalin_photo

Unique nature of Astrakhan oblast

The nature of Astrakhan region is unique for Russia. Nowhere else in the country will you be able to find a territory composed of semi-deserts and deserts, where camels live, and the most famous Russian river Volga carries its waters.

Astrakhan oblast is located in the south-east of the East European Plain. The region is situated in the Caspian lowland where the Volga River flows into the Caspian Sea. The region stretches over 400 km in the form of a narrow stripe. Photos by GeoSerzh

Overcoming the mud – trophy-sprint “Autumn Marathon”

Seven tanks of water were poured on the track in a clay quarry by the organizers of “Autumn Marathon” – a trophy-sprint held annually in the village Assadulaevo, Astrakhan oblast .

September 17, 2011 the competition was attended by 17 crews from Volgograd and Astrakhan . There were almost no high-speed sections on the track. The key events unfolded in the artificially flooded pits.

Astrakhan oblast is situated in Caspian lowland where Volga River flows into Caspian Sea. The largest part of Astrakhan oblast is occupied by semideserts. But some parts of the region are looking like the real desert and here is an example.

It is “Big Brother” – one of the largest and highest barkhans in Astrakhan oblast. The height of this sand dune is about 20 meters. Photos by  Maxim Korotchenko .
