Billionaire superyacht showdown: Who’s who in St. Barths for New Year 2024

The port of Gustavia in St. Barths is getting crowded this holiday season as the legendary superyacht showdown begins. 

The billionaire superyacht season started early, with the richest men in the world and their celebrity friends anchored outside of Gustavia and neighboring St. Maarten and Antigua.

Many will stay throughout Christmas, taking glamorous day trips to nearby islands, and then party with the traditional fireworks show above St. Barths Fort Oscar on New Year’s Eve.

Jonny Dodge, CEO and Founder of  My Ocean , handling superyacht sales, charters and management, says, “More billionaires congregate on this tiny rock in the Caribbean than anywhere else in the world at once. Last year, we went to the UNICEF Gala with clients at a $300k table, followed by an after-party on the billionaire owner of superyacht  VAVA II . There are more celebrities than you can count in St. Barths, and it’s really like they picked up St Tropez and transported to the Caribbean.”

New this year, Bagatelle Group opened their second St. Barts location,  iTA , a disco-jungle themed restaurant and bar located in Gustavia overlooking the harbor, and the famed  Le Ti  cabaret club, open since 1995, was recently purchased and reopened under new ownership.

Superyachts in the area for the holidays will send their guests in via tender to numerous exclusive parties and host their own private celebrations on board.

Among the high-profile New Year’s Eve events this year,  Gala One  from AAB Productions will have one of the most exclusive parties on the island on December 29, with an intimate 200-person dinner at the famed Eden Rock.

With performances by Bebe Rexha and Saweetie, as well as a thrilling live auction, the evening will benefit several charities dedicated to protecting children, biodiversity and the waters and lands of the Caribbean.

Here is a selection of some of the largest yachts that are in and around St. Barths for the holidays. It is important to note that yachts are often privately chartered during the holidays, so you may never see their wealthy owners.

Paris Hilton was seen kissing a mystery man while on a yacht anchored off the coast of Formentera, Spain on Tuesday morning.

Now DailyMail.com can reveal exclusively the identity of the 34-year-old DJ's suitor. He is Thomas Gross, a 39-year-old self-made multimillionaire whose home base is in Zurich, Switzerland.

'They met at the Cannes Film Festival in May and have been dating ever since. They are having a lot of fun getting to know each other,' a source confirmed.

And the PDA continued as Paris and her hunk cuddled up for a hug after he pulled off his T-shirt to show off his incredible physique.

Paris and Gross enjoyed a fun-filled day where they raced jet-skis around before relaxing on board the incredibly luxurious yacht. 

Last month Paris was linked to TOWIE star Chloe Sims' ex Joe Fournier, 32, but it appears as if the pair are just friends and business associates.

The nightclub entrepreneur and former personal trainer were seen together in Cannes where the socialite posted a video of them together.

According to data provided by Global Fleet Tracker, there are 131 yachts more than 24 metres in length currently anchored off the leeward shores of St Barths, four of which surpass the 100-metre mark. While the total figure falls slightly short of the 142 visiting yachts recorded in 2019, it marks the triumphant return of the fleet following several years of disruption. It’s vacation time for Rihanna!

And if there’s one chica who knows how to vacay (and party for that matter), it’s Robyn Rihanna Fenty . This time, the 26-year-old is spending much of her time in Italy, seaside. Snorkling, yachting (if that’s actually a verb), drinking and enjoying the sun seems to be the focal points of her excursion. As is customary, RiRi has brought along a few team members Jennifer Rosales and hair stylist Yusef  and close friends.

Reportedly, Rihanna is aboard a multimillion dollar carter yacht, called the Galaxy. The yacht is owned by Swiss businessman Hans Thomas Gross and includes room for 12, outdoor and indoor bars, sun baking decks  a wine cellar, an indoor movie theater, gym and a jacuzzi.

Paris Hilton's ex Hans Thomas Gross 'broke word over £11.5m deal sealed with handshake'

An Austrian tycoon who dated Paris Hilton denies breaking his word over an £11.5 million deal cemented with a handshake, the High Court heard.

Hans Thomas Gross, 39, is being sued by British investment banker Bruce MacInnes, who says he was promised a large share of the £100 million-plus profits from the sale of Mr Gross’s RunningBall sports data business in 2012.

He insists he struck a gentleman’s agreement with Mr Gross over dinner at Knightsbridge restaurant Zuma, giving up his job to help close the deal.

Mr MacInnes said he agreed to work for nothing on the understanding he would earn a hefty commission if RunningBall sold above its target price.

His barrister Gavin Mansfield QC said Mr MacInnes took the entrepreneur as “a man of his word” in the March 2011 deal. “A concluded agreement was reached and they shook hands on the deal,” said Mr Mansfield.

“Mr Gross told Mr MacInnes he made his deals on a handshake — in the Asian way.”

Giving evidence, Mr MacInnes told Mr Justice Coulson: “Thomas came across as a very trustworthy person so I accepted that deal on a handshake.”

He left City firm Investec to become RunningBall chairman in June 2011, believing he was in line for a 15 per cent commission once the sale went through, the court heard.

“In May 2012 RunningBall was sold to Perform — a purchaser introduced to Mr Gross by Mr MacInnes,” said Mr Mansfield. The business sold for €142 million, “far in excess of the strike price”.

“But after the sale Mr Gross changed his tune,” said Mr Mansfield. “He refused to pay and denied there was an agreement.”

Mr MacInnes is suing Mr Gross for breach of contract. But the entrepreneur, thought to be worth £130 million, argues Mr MacInnes only had an option to invest in RunningBall and questions why a major deal would have been concluded without any written contract.

Mr Gross’s barrister, Tom Weisselberg, said the men had “barely known each other” before the restaurant meeting.

He claimed the only handshake was “just to say goodbye” after the dinner.

“There was nothing said about the ‘Asian way’,” the QC added. Mr Gross hit the headlines last year when he was pictured with Hilton on a yacht off the Spanish coast, having started dating after meeting at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

He is said to have split from the Hilton Hotels heiress, 35, who called him her “soulmate”, in June this year.

RunningBall specialises in providing “real-time” sports data, using a network of scouts covering about 50,000 sporting events.

Mr Justice Coulson will give his ruling on the case at a later date.
