Description.

Rare opportunity to purchase a fast cruiser from the renowned Danish builder X-Yachts. This X-442 was purchased in 2002 by the present owner and has sailed extensively around the UK and over to Scandinavia. This is the 3-cabin version with 2-double aft cabins and 'Owners ensuite cabin in bow. Teak interior, new upholstery in 2015, variety of sails and a well maintained Yanmar 51 hp inboard diesel. This yacht is in a 'Sailaway' condition but is priced to reflect some cosmetic issues that a future owner may wish to address. These include the fading of the blue hull, the potential re-caulking of some areas of the teak decking and possible replacement of the original standing rigging.

Vessel powered by an inboard Yanmar 4JH3E, 51hp diesel engine. Reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 3-bladed Gori folding propeller. Engine start panel mounted in cockpit in recess for protection. Engine has completed 2327 serviced hours. The owner has changed the oil and filters every year just prior to annual lift out. Engine situated beneath the companionway steps. These remove along with two further sections in the two aft cabins allowing all round access for servicing and daily checks.

Bank of 5x12V batteries providing to the engine, the winches and the onboard systems. These are recharged via the engine alternator or the onboard battery charger when on shore power.

Masthead sloop sail plan with keel stepped, 3-spreader mast by Sparcraft. Silver anodised aluminium boom with outhaul, 2-reefing points and rigid rod kicker with block and tackle. Stainless steel rod rigging including forestay, backstay and shrouds. Stainless wire babystay. Backstay has a NAVTEC hydraulic adjuster. Spinnaker rigging including mast track and upgraded carbon fibre pole. Reckmann furling headsail system with stainless steel drum. 4300mm Genoa tracks mounted port and starboard with ball bearing cars. Babystay track with cars and tensioner adjuster. Mainsheet track mounted in cockpit forward of wheel. Andersen self tailing and 2-speed winches for spinnaker sheets, main halyard and genoa sheets. Genoa sheet winches are electric. Lazy jack lines. Construction

GRP sandwich constructed yacht using varying densities of divynicell core material. Solid laminate around keel pan. Hot galvanised steel floor girder absorbing load from keel and mast. Blue topsides starting to show age. May require painting at some stage. Marine ply internal bulkheads bonded to hull and deck. Deep draft cast keel with lead bulb. Reinforced hand laminated spade rudder with tapered aluminium stock. Vessel has been ashore annually for antifoul and anode change. Sea cocks to heads compartments changed in 2022. Sandwich constructed deck finished in teak planking laid and bonded over the grp. Some areas require bonding down and require new caulking.

Deep self-bailing cockpit with teak laid sole and locker tops. Cockpit lockers fitted with gas struts for safety. Steering binnacle with large diameter stainless steel wheel covered in leather for comfort. Stainless steel stern rails with built in solid teak seats port and starboard. Access to bathing platform.

Stainless steel stanchions joined by double set of guard wires. Side access gates for ease of access. Anchor locker in bow with horizontal mounted Lofrans electric windlass. Stainless steel bow fitting.

The X-442 has exceptional performance and is both modern and luxurious. Fitted with a 51-horsepower S-drive engine, 3 spreader masthead rig, large-wheel steering and a practical, stylish interior. The yachts' wooden interior is built of teak with a hand-polished satin finish. All joinery is built in accordance with the best yacht practice, and the number of visible screws have been reduced to a minimum and carefully designed to show off the fine wooden interior. The innerlining has integrated dome halogen spotlights and blinds below the hatches. All windows and hatches are equipped with curtains. Handrails are fitted throughout.

Boat: The search is on	a sailboat, but I have an opportunity on a 2001 412 that I can't ignore. If not, it may be helpful if anyone has experience with X-Yachts in general.

Boat: X442	think the 412/442/482 X-Yachts range is the best X-Yachts produced: good looking cruiser/racers typical of the 80's and early 90's. Despite owning a 442 myself I also think the 412 has the best proportions in that range. If I ever find the 442 becomes too big for me, I would step one size down to the 412. Since the 412, etc period X-Yachts has shifted the focus somewhat to the affluent cruiser market whereby space has taken a more central role. Performance still good but the modern X just has a lot more width carried both forward and aft. And there is now also the X-Power line which the CEO of X told me is a reflection of what people want these days... If you want sailing performance then you cannot go wrong with an X-412. Speaking from experience with my X-442 and having sailed many other yachts as well as dinghies I would say my X comes closest to the experience. It's fun, fast but also wet. Why it's wet becomes obvious when moored in the and I compare my bow to all the other bows: the X seems to be low and mean while all the other yachts have much fuller bows, bigger clearance, more comfort, less performance. So that's a off. Structurally I am very pleased to have that galvanized frame down below on which the stands, to which the is bolted and which takes all the forces from the shrouds. As a result it is possible to really tension up the rig and not be limited to what the (plastic) can stand. And running aground is not an immediate structural issue. On the whole I chose the performance combined with 90's levels of comfort and happy to be able to use decent speeds when planning. I really enjoy the sailing experience and the also appreciates faster progress on longer passages. So the main plus points of this X is performance, strength and aesthetics. Downside is not as roomy as more modern designs and of course this X is as susceptible to poor as any other .

We bought her in 2001 as a fast, comfortable cruiser for our retirement. Initially she was sailed back from Denmark to the UK where she spent 3 years before being cruised gently down the Atlantic coast of Europe and then into the Mediterranean. Currently she is lying in Corfu. She has been meticulously maintained, never raced and always wintered ashore. She is an outstanding example of this classic X-Yacht design, and with her new Flexiteek decks in 2022 she is ready for a new owner and adventure. She is fully equipped for cruising and only for sale due to our advancing years.
