The Yacht Week Croatia Review: Know Before Your Go

Perhaps you've heard to rumours, the stories, and the legends about the Yacht Week. It sounds awesome. But so did the Taco Bell Cheese Roll-Up burrito . It is all hype, or is it the real deal? This Yacht Week Croatia review has the answers.

In the interest of educating the masses, I sacrificed myself. From Aug 9-17 ten buddies and I embarked on the Yacht Week Croatia in search of the truth.

We found it.

My Yacht Week Croatia review summary is that it's awesome…  b ut   i t's not for everyone.  And there are definitely some things you should know in advance. Here are some key figures to shed light into the inner workings of the mayhem and help you prepare for your own experience:

And for those of you who don’t know what the Yacht Week is, watch this video:

The Yacht Week Croatia Review by the Numbers:

Number of nationalities represented at Yacht Week.Somewhat surprisingly there was nobody from Russia, the Middle East (not even Israel), or Asia. Nevertheless, the chance to cavort with and befriend people like you from around the world was definitely a highlight of the Yacht Week.

Number of nationalities representing 80% of the yacht weekers: American, Australian, Brazilian, Spanish, and German. In other words, while the Yacht Week Croatia draws a worldwide clientele, it's not THAT diverse.

Nationalities we had on our boat, “The Love Boat”: German, Swedish, Swiss, Canadian, Portuguese, South African, and Namibian. This definitely played to our advantage in drawing the attention of other boats.

Estimated age of the average yacht weeker. The youngest were 22 and oldest closing on forty, but most were in the late 20s to early 30s range.

Average age of the skippers, who are supposed to keep everything in control. No wonder chaos ensued.

This may be crude, but no Yacht Week Croatia review would be complete without sharing how much sex goes on. Fifteen is the number of girls the eight single guys in our crew “got intimate” with during the week. Just under two girls per guy might not seem like a lot, but most of our crew settled on “Yacht Week girlfriends”, meaning they hooked up with the same girl each night. If getting laid is one of your objectives at Yacht Week Croatia, you're in luck. It is very easy.

Percentage of yacht weekers who were female. At least. If anything, there were more girls than guys. Everyone—guys and girls—seemed to agree it was an ideal ratio.

Yacht Week Croatia circle raft

Estimated total number of hours we were actually at sea. And some of that was early in the morning while we were sleeping. The vast majority of our time was spent anchored or at harbor. The Yacht Week is not about boating; it's all about partying.

Hours we actually had the sails up. We only put our sails up twice in the whole trip.

Estimated average sleep quality score, out of 100 during the trip. The cabins get unbearably hot at night. This forces you to sleep on deck, which is not designed for sleeping. And sleeping outside leads to an inevitable early wake up as soon as the sun comes up. I’d recommend following the skippers’ lead: bring a hammock and something to cover your eyes.

Number of full meals we ate per day. With the exception of one egg salad, that meal was always pasta. Other than that, for sustenance we snacked on fruit, cereal, pizza, sausages, bread, and booze.

eating at Yacht Week Croatia

Boats doing the same route as us, the Yacht Week Croatia Black Route. At the same time, 46 other boats were doing the Red Route, which is the same route but in the other direction. That’s a lot of boats and a lot of partiers.

$850 (4900 kuna)

Total spent on groceries at the Getro by the marina before sailing off for the first time. We ate it all and then some.

$35 (200 kuna)

Amount we were extorted into paying for the 250 meter taxi ride to bring our haul of groceries from the Getro supermarket to the Marina Kastela. Bring some dollies or carts from the marina so you can push the stuff back yourselves and avoid being ripped off.

$10, $1, $0.5

Approximate cost of a bottle of vodka, a can of beer, and a kilogram of bananas respectively at the supermarket by the marina where we started our trip.

$30, $2.50, $3

Cost of the same vodka, beer, and bananas at the harbor by Hvar where we spent two nights. Buy as much as you can at the begging in order to save money.

$260 (1500 kuna)

Amount each of the eleven in our crew contributed to the pot, which was used to pay for joint expenses like groceries, gas, and harbor fees.

$4.50 (25 kuna)

Typical cost of a can of beer at the Yacht Week parties. If you’re a cheap-ass like me, be sure to pre-drink, or make a party mix that you can stash nearby.

$350-$900 (2000 to 5000 kuna)

Cost of getting tables at the parties. Don’t get tables. The parties are free-for-alls and you won’t be spending much time at your table anyways. If you want drinks, buy them individually or take advantage of other people’s tables.

Number of skippers (the guys we paid to captain our boats for us) who said Yacht Week Croatia is their favorite. Without exception, they said they thought the Yacht Weeks in Greece and the US Virgin Islands were better. That’s not to say Croatia is bad at all – it’s awesome – but food for thought for those considering signing up and deciding where to go.

Number of times in my life I will do the Yacht Week. It was an even better time than I expected, but it's the polar opposite of the type of traveling I prefer (blending in) and I’m not sure my body could survive another. Plus, it’s expensive and there are plenty of other experiences and parties to be had in life. I recommend everyone do it once at least. And if you’re crazy, you’ll be back for more.

Disclosure: Whenever possible, we use links that earn us a cut if you pay for stuff we recommend. It costs you nothing, so we'd be crazy not to. Read our affiliate policy .

Just did The Yacht Week Croatia. Wish I read this before going there to be a little bit more prepared. Really liked your article and all the numbers – especially the cost for taxi and food supply. Actually, all the numbers were quite accurate and interesting!

SUPER HELPFUL, thank you!

Glad to hear it, Alexandra! Enjoy the summer

All the guys and girls are so shredded and ripped. Does this mean that the less attractive bodies don’t get a fair chance to get laid ?

Hi Kamlesh. I'd say it's no different from the non Yacht-week world.

Thanks for sharing! Was searching info for the yacht week and found this article helpful.

You're welcome. This post is getting old, so hopefully some of the info in it remains reasonably accurate.

yacht week

Are you a party animal in search of an unforgettable experience? Look no further than The Yacht Week in Croatia! This week-long extravaganza is held annually in the beautiful and underrated destination of Croatia. But here's the twist - all the parties take place on yachts! If you're ready for an adventure filled with epic parties, stunning scenery, and lifelong memories, then The Yacht Week is the place to be.

What is The Yacht Week?

Choosing your route, booking your yacht week experience, accommodations on the yachts, exploring the islands, the parties - the highlight of each day, dining on the yacht week, budgeting for the yacht week, the importance of your crew, arrival and departure.

The Yacht Week is a renowned seven-day festival that takes place in six different locations, with Croatia being one of them. It all started back in 2006 when a group of friends from Sweden decided to create their own sailing experience for adventure seekers like themselves. Since then, The Yacht Week has grown to include 70,000 people who love to explore, party, and sail.

When it comes to The Yacht Week in Croatia, there are seven different routes to choose from. Each route offers a unique experience, with varying levels of partying, local exploration, and cultural immersion. The Original Croatia Route is the most popular choice, known for its legendary parties and breathtaking scenery. But if you're looking for something different, you can also opt for routes in Italy, Greece, Montenegro, the Caribbean, or Grenada.

Once you've decided on the route that suits your preferences, it's time to gather your crew and book your yacht or cabin. It's important to book early as the boats per route are limited. You can book directly through the official website of The Yacht Week to secure your spot and start planning for the adventure of a lifetime.

During The Yacht Week, your home will be the yacht itself. While the accommodations may not be lavish, the boats are well-maintained and provide a comfortable space for you and your crew. It's important to note that space on the yachts can be a bit cramped, so be prepared for close quarters. Most boats have multiple bathrooms, but it's essential to be mindful of water usage and follow proper toilet etiquette.

While The Yacht Week is known for its epic parties, it's also an opportunity to explore the stunning islands of Croatia. From secluded bays to charming towns, there's no shortage of beauty to discover. Take the time to go on excursions, rent a Vespa and explore the islands, or simply walk around the towns and indulge in local delicacies. It's all about finding the perfect balance between partying and experiencing the culture and natural wonders of Croatia.

Let's not forget the main attraction - the parties! The Yacht Week Croatia is famous for its legendary parties, and each day offers a unique and unforgettable experience. From the Riviera Chic party in Hvar to the Fort Party in a historic fort, the festivities are non-stop. Snagging a table with bottle service is highly recommended for a more comfortable experience. The Raft Party and Regatta are also highlights not to be missed. It's all about dancing, socializing, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

While onboard, you'll have the option to have your own hostess who will cook breakfast and lunch for you and your crew. Trust us when we say, this is worth every penny. Your hostess will take care of the meals, ensuring that everyone is well-fed and ready to take on the day's adventures. However, there are also plenty of opportunities to eat out at local restaurants and enjoy the delicious cuisine of Croatia. Don't forget to try traditional dishes like Peka, and indulge in some mouthwatering ice cream from local shops.

It's important to be prepared and budget accordingly for The Yacht Week. While the cost will depend on various factors such as the route, yacht type, and group size, it's essential to account for expenses like groceries, port fees, water taxis, bottle service, and group dinners. Splitting costs evenly with your crew is recommended to ensure a fair distribution of expenses. Planning ahead and using apps like Splitwise can help keep track of expenses and settle the bill at the end of the trip.

Your crew plays a significant role in the success of The Yacht Week. It's important to have a group of like-minded individuals who are open-minded, responsible, and ready to have a good time. The Yacht Week places emphasis on the ratio of guys to girls in your group, so it's crucial to ensure a balance. Having a skipper and hostess on board is also highly recommended, as they will provide guidance, take care of logistics, and enhance your overall experience.

Arriving a day before the official check-in time is recommended to avoid any potential travel delays and ensure a smooth start to your Yacht Week adventure. Booking accommodations near the marina allows for a good night's sleep before embarking on your journey. On the departure day, you'll return to the marina, check out, and bid farewell to your yacht and crew. It's a bittersweet moment, but the memories and friendships forged during The Yacht Week will last a lifetime.

The Yacht Week in Croatia is an experience like no other - a perfect blend of adventure, partying, and exploration. From sailing the stunning Croatian coastline to dancing the night away at legendary parties, this week-long extravaganza is sure to be the best week of your life. So gather your crew, book your yacht or cabin, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Embark on The Yacht Week in Croatia, and let the party begin!

Yacht Week Croatia: the ultimate guide to what and when to wear

the-yacht-week-croatia

When I went for yacht week a few years ago, I did not have any expectations and I packed the same outfits I would generally take on any other beach vacation. However, I felt unprepared all the time and wish someone would have told me not only what to pack but what to wear to the themed parties. This ultimate Yacht Week (YW) outfits guide has you covered!

Day 1: Trogir marina – Padre bar

Woohoo, you’ve made it to TYW Croatia ! This is your first day at the marina where you meet your skipper and the YW crew. Check-in takes place between 1-4 pm, once done you can get to know your crew and enjoy a cold beverage at the marina cafe. Your yacht will be accessible by 6 pm.

Wear something casual today because you will have a long day full of unpacking, setting up your room, and grocery shopping for the upcoming trip.

the-yacht-week-croatia

Once set, upscale your look to a casual elegant attire. I would say rather casual than elegant  – a silk top or a jumpsuit but no heels or dresses. Why? You will be getting to the opening party at the Padre Bar via a dingy, so you will appreciate comfy shoes and shorts/skorts.  It is a cool (but a bit sketchy) open-air bar located in medieval ruins.

Day 2: Trogir – Vis

You probably woke up when the boat was on its way to Vis. The sea breeze feels amazing so put on a swimsuit and get a tan on the deck for the day. When you dock you can either chill on a floatie until dinner or go explore the town.

the-yacht-week-croatia

If you picked the second option, after wandering around Vis, head straight to the dinner followed by a party at Fort George. It is one of the most beautiful locations in Croatia with stunning 360 views. That said, the outfits should be on point! The theme for the night is Tropical Retro. Here are some outfit inspiration ideas:

Please avoid the following outfits: swimsuits, wank tops, vests, nudity/ transparent clothing, or novelty onesies.

Day 3: Vis to Hvar (St Tropez of Croatia)

Hvar is called the Saint Tropez of Croatia for a reason. You will start your day with a party in the middle of the sea! Grab a funny swimsuit and a floatie for a Circle Raft. It is Yacht Week’s iconic party where all the yachts circle around a famous DJ in the middle.

Yacht Week's iconic Circle Raft party

Bring tons of sunscreen, a one-piece swimsuit, minimum jewelry, a hat, and a pair of shades that you are ok to lose. I was not ready for this party at all, so here are some funny swimsuits I can imagine wearing (I wish someone else would have prepared this outfit guide before):

In the afternoon, dress casually to explore Hvar, eat dalmatian seafood, or enjoy a cocktail in the Laganini cabanas amongst the trees. Hvar is a two-day stop, so take it easy on your first-day explorations and meet other yacht weekers for a sunset party at the Hula Hula beach bar. It is said that there is no better place to watch the sunset than there. When the sun goes down, find a dinner spot in town, then head to a tiny Kiva Bar – a YW favorite spot.

Day 4: Palmizana, Hvar

In the morning put on your activewear for HIIT Class or join a Run club and hit the trains of Palmizana.

Explore Hvar, visit the fortress, and wine cellars, grab lunch on the Riva, and then join the Riviera Chic Party. Or come back to your yacht after lunch, freshen up and catch a transfer over to Carpe Diem Beach for the party.

the-yacht-week-croatia

Nothing says summer like white! Riviera Chic Party is YW’s famous white party, so put on your best whites, be beautiful, and elegant, sip champagne and get ready to be snapped like a celebrity!

Think classy white or stylish stripes and nautical colors to achieve an effortlessly 1950s chic look. Avoid tank tops (men), swimwear, flip-flops, or beachwear.

the-yacht-week-croatia

After the party wander around the cobbled streets of Hvar and stop at one of the restaurants for some food with your crew.

Day 5: Hvar – Bol

Explore the beautiful town of Bol, walking along its lovely seafront promenade all the way to the Golden Horn beach.

the-yacht-week-croatia

Put on your sportswear to do a free yoga class in the afternoon, play beach volleyball, and participate in parasailing, water tubing, and other beach activities.

the-yacht-week-croatia

In the evening, dress casually and sip a cocktail at Auro Beach Bar or explore the Roman ruins in the woods over the beach.

Have dinner and get ready to catch the free transfer to the party at Club 585.

Day 6: Bol to Starigrad

From Bol, you will be heading to one of Croatia’s beautiful natural bays, raft all the yachts together and stay overnight on a yacht watching the shooting stars.

Prepare your floatie and a swimsuit for another traditional yacht week-style tunnel raft party at Starigrad Bay with a DJ. Enjoy the party drifting from the yacht to yacht on your floaties.

the-yacht-week-croatia

Return to your yacht, cook dinner onboard, have a relaxing evening together, play board games, and read books. Get a blanket and lay on deck watching shooting stars and falling asleep – where else you can have such a magical experience!

Day 7: Stari Grad to Trogir – Regatta Day

the-yacht-week-croatia

The Yachtweek Regatta is one of the biggest events of the week and my personal favorite! All the boats sail together while each crew shows off their costumes in an attempt to win the best theme. Throw on your wigs, deck your crew out and get ready for a regatta day – this is what you brought fun dress costumes for!

Regatta winners are chosen based on sailing time, atmosphere onboard, clothing and decorations. So, think of something big, bright, and catchy for the costumes, easy dance moves, and music on board. Ideally, you should pick a theme and dance or at least make some synchronized moves! My favorites were “Bae Watch” (a few boats had them), butterflies with big wings, and an Aladdin-inspired theme.

the-yacht-week-croatia

In the evening when you return back to Marinas – pack your bag, clean the yacht and get ready for a Closing party where the Regatta winner team will be announced.

Dress to impress for a Closing Party at Vanilla Nightclub

Day 8: Check out

Leave the yacht by 9 am and donate any unopened non-perishable goods and floaties to the Event crew.

Have a coffee and breakfast at the marina cafe where you first met your skipper and a crew and share the funny moments of the trip. That’s it, you just finished “a 7-day experience that lasts a lifetime”!

Yacht week was absolutely amazing and the best way to see Croatia in our opinion. We tacked on a few days in Split and Trojir but overall couldn’t be more grateful we saw so many islands.

The yacht week Croatia was absolutely amazing! We got to sail the sea, swim in stunning bags, party at luxurious beach bars, and make memories in unforgettably beautiful ways in gorgeous places.

Dimitri Barth

I had the best time of my life during the yachtweek in Croatia last week of August 2023.

We went into the trip with a group of friends and had a lot of fun, great weather, lots of good vibes good music and the people from the yacht week were just amazing !

Yacht Week in Croatia - Spend This Summer Partying on a Yacht in Croatia

How about we tell you that there is a week-long party extravaganza organized annually at a serene, virgin, and underrated destination in Eastern Europe? What's more? There is a twist here -the parties take place on the yachts! Sounds exciting?  Croatia , as a few of us might be aware, is a small European country with an enviably long coastline along the Adriatic Sea. Owing to the long coast, there are islands, harbors, and quaint towns aplenty!

Yacht Week In Croatia

If you are a hardcore party animal, the Yacht Week in Croatia is the place to be! There are around 30-35 yachts anchored at the harbour where you are also housed. This seven day long floating parties are every party lover's paradise! Sip your drink, watch movies, dance to your heart's content, chill with others, the to-do list is quite endless!

What Is Yacht Week?

The Yacht Week is a famous seven-day festival hosted every year in six different locations, with Croatia being one. In brief, the festival is nothing less than a full-fledged water adventure. It includes a vast selection of activities organized by The Yacht Week. One of the rules of the Yacht Week is to have an equal number of participants, both male and female, who have earned their way into the yacht. The occurrences at Yacht Week remain a mystery as one would get on board having absolutely no idea as to how the next seven days would be beside the standard understanding of the festival. This limited knowledge regarding the itinerary and schedules is what makes the festival all the more exciting.

Where to Book for Yacht Week in Croatia?

Start with trying to gather your like-minded friends around and book a boat, or if you intend to go solo, make sure to book a cabin for yourself on one of the yachts early on!

Make sure to book from their official website (www.theyachtweek.com). The boats per route are limited, so book in advance!

Yacht Week in Croatia

A perfect way to unwind, relax and let your hair down, you need not have a hardcore schedule, and the itinerary is just what you need to have fun and chill at the same time, ensuring that you have a memorable experience at the party! But to give you a rough idea, a typical day would be something like:

Yacht Week in Croatia Prices and Categories

Yacht Week Yachts

As they say, good things don't come easy and if you're wondering what would the cost of the trip be like, let us give you a brief idea.

The overall cost of the Yacht week in Croatia depends on aspects of your destination, itinerary, the group size and the kind of yacht you would like to charter! You either have an option to book a full yacht (can accommodate a group size of 6-12 people) or a cabin (for two people) on one of the yachts.

The former has three categories to choose from; the rates are per person - Standard (starts at $ 550), Premium (starting $ 752) and Premium Plus ($ 777 onwards). The prices for renting a cabin would range from $ 650 to $ 995 per person, depending on the package inclusions.

However, be prepared to shell out additional money on the airfare, airport transfers, and other exclusions. Do read everything clearly before booking!

Good experiences don't come cheap, right?

Hiring a skipper

Skippers are yacht professionals certified in the sport. They maintain the safety and security of the audience and ensure their excitement meets the perfect experience. These licensed sailors who would be onboard with the crew, also teach those who are willing to learn the art of yachting.

Skipper hiring is an easy process; it would require a couple of online methods. But what is difficult is pinning down the right skipper for you, regarding experience, certification and hospitality. Here are some of the websites through which you could get in touch with your personal skipper:

Sailing Holiday: The Yacht Week Croatia

It’s not every day you get to see the world from the deck of your own yacht, unless you’re a billionaire, of course… talk about a gap in the market! The Yacht Week offers seven days of sailing to hidden splendours that most landlubbers will never see, experiencing exclusive events and, the best part, being completely surrounded by an equal balance of adventure-seeking guys and girls from around the world. For a similar experience on a smaller scale, a trip to  Ibiza allows you to rent a boat  to explore the stunning coastline and discover hidden gems at your own pace. If you’ve done Dubrovnik, you might want to do Ibiza next, or vice-versa

“The original reasons for choosing Croatia are still calling us back 10 years after our first visit: its rustic charm, oodles of history, spectacular scenery and of course, undoubtedly smooth sailing are the very essence of this Adriatic jewel”, says Sophie from one of the crews, and continues “It’s so good, we do the same trip twice, with two routes (Black and Red) visiting the same spots but in a different order. For both routes there is a fleet of about 50 yachts”.

One feature of the Yacht Week is when the whole fleet rafts up together and there is all the fun of swimming, playing and meeting the crews of other boats. The evenings are very spontaneous and can become quite festive, with a variety of parties happening for you to choose from.

This is the tour of The Yacht Week, beginning and ending in Split. It’s well worth a wander along the vibrant waterfront of the second-largest city in Croatia. You can’t leave Split without discovering the Diocletian’s Palace in Split Old Town. Inside this impressive Roman monument are an array of vibrant local restaurants and colourful shops. Remember to check which marina you will leave from – all are only a short drive from Split Airport.

The second destination is Hvar: welcome to the St. Tropez of Croatia! Anyone who is anyone has been seen along this marble waterfront which is filled with boutiques, bars and restaurants. Two of the most popular TYW events are hosted in Hvar; one at Hula-Hula beach bar and the other at Carpe Diem, both to be enjoyed in considerable style, of course. All yachts are moored in Palmižana marina, on a small island right opposite Hvar.

The place to be is the island of Vis. Croatia’s most distant and untouched island was only opened to foreigners in 1994 as it was the military headquarters for Tito. As a result, historical architecture is rife in Vis. Including Fort George, a restaurant and venue set within the crumbling walls of an old British outpost built in 1813. The panoramic view from the bohemian styled garden is just as memorable as the food and this is where we will host possibly the best party of the week.

Fort George is a new restaurant that opened on the 1 st  June with two new chefs.  Looking to the vibrant Mediterranean cuisine for inspiration, chefs Luciana Victoria Russo from Spain and Ramon Ortigosa Marsilio from Argentina, fuse traditional and contemporary tastes to create a dining experience to live up to Fort George’s spectacular surroundings.  With stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere, the Fort George restaurant makes for the perfect setting to sit back and get lost in the beauty of the location whilst enjoying a freshly prepared and delicious meal.

Russo and Marsilio are both experienced in creating innovative, tantalizing and delicious dishes.  Both chefs combine their extensive knowledge from their careers with the local produce and influences to give guests the ultimate culinary experience.  The restaurant will be open from 12pm until 11pm every day throughout the summer except during private events.

Komiza is a charismatic small fishing village located in the western bay of the island. Its ochre coloured houses and beautiful front are filled with quirky restaurants –and always the chance of an ice-cream! Most of the yachts will anchor in the bay and take a taxi boat to the pier in the evening. Around the corner from the village is the beach club where we will host the open air party right on the water’s edge.

Often called ‘Museum City’, Trogir is known for its high concentration of historical monuments, such as the Kamerlengo fortress and the sacred sculpture of the Blessed John of Orsini. The town is also renowned for the diversity of architecture found in its churches, palaces and towers. From Romanesque to Renaissance—the range of styles found here will impress even the most well-travelled.

Hvar Yacht Charter – Discover the Best of Croatia by Boat

yacht week hvar

Hvar Luxury Yacht Charter Guide will reveal the popular, as well as the most hidden gems of this remarkable island in Croatia

The island of Hvar is a prestigious nautical cocktail mixed with most desirable ingredients. At the same time, this island is one of the many fascinating Top charter destinations in Croatia. Glamorous luxury yachts and small boats sail along its shores, because everyone discovering the joys of the Adriatic is delighted to get to know it.

How to get to Hvar?

Unforgettable hvar experience: things to do, harbors and marinas on hvar island: hvar sailing trips, when is the best time to visit hvar.

monastery town hvar yacht charter

The west coast of this 35 miles long island in Split archipelago – the longest island in the Adriatic – brims with coves, bays and inlets, and is dotted with popular anchorages and charming towns. The picturesque town of Hvar and the Pakleni Islands as one of the most desirable nautical oases of the Adriatic are main culprits for the popularity of this island.

The eastern shores of Croatian island Hvar are straighter, with fewer natural coves, and are outside main yachting routes, but often visited by cruising yachts looking for the Mediterranean as it once was. Ferry boats are often the most elegant solution for tourists wondering how to get to Hvar.

In the town of Hvar , many boaters eager for fun and glamour spend more than a few days, which speaks volumes about the magnetic beauty of this Adriatic pearl. This little big town that never sleeps lures with its multitude of exclusive nightclubs, and with its many glamorous Hvar restaurants is also foodie heaven.

The fortress of Španjola proudly towers over Hvar , offering fabulous views of the town, the picturesque port and the stunning Pakleni islands.

Featured Yachts

There are only fifteen buoys and fifteen berths in the city port, but the latter are usually booked months in advance by elegant mega-yachts sailing the Adriatic.

town hvar

The town port does not offer a safe haven from southerly winds, and it is also extremely busy during the day, mostly for the presence of numerous speedboats, impressive Hvar barcarioles (taxi boats) and regular ferry lines.

Besides, many local agencies organize Hvar sailing trips to the neighboring island of Vis , whose seaside you can get to know through our Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide.

Visit Pakleni islands by boat

town hvar Yacht Charter

Although a few miles away from the island, the Pakleni islands seem to be connected to the town of Hvar by the umbilical cord. This hellishly – as the name suggests – beautiful archipelago made up of 21 smaller and larger islands offers an island for any and all tastes.

Luxury restaurant on Hvar

On the largest island of Sveti Klement, ACI marina Palmižana offers safe shelter in all winds. On the south side of this island there are many azure bays, with Vinogradišće being by far the most visited. It is dotted with about forty buoys, and boasts one – very popular – lounge bar, Laganini , and a colorful restaurants to visit by boat .

The ones owned by the locally famous Meneghello family are inextricably linked to nautical tourism in the Adriatic. Buoys owned by these highly recommendable restaurants can also be found in the spacious bay of Soline and in the bay of Vlaka on the opposite, northern coast of Klement.

Party animals will love Carpe Diem Beach Club in Stipanska bay on the island of Marinkovac and sea kayaking in these waters gives a unique perspective and interaction with the ambiance that no other vessel can match

pakleni islands yacht charter

Larger yachts usually drop anchors on the west side of this wild island, in the Ždrilac pass, or on the east side of Marinkovac, towards the islet of Jerolim.

All yachts can, depending on the wind, count on a shelter on the leeward side of the island, and only have to choose one of the many bays – in their favorite shade of blue – that pleases them the most to drop their anchor.

Explore Hvar’s beaches and coves

The Pelegrin Peninsula is a nature reserve adjacent to the very town of Hvar, and everyone sailing from Split to Hvar makes sure to at least drop by. In this protected area and hunting ground, deer and mouflon can occasionally be seen from the deck.

The peninsula itself boasts several charming natural and man-made anchorages – Mala Garška, Vela Garška, Parija, Duga and Vira.

stari grad hvar yacht charter

Starogradski bay lies tucked deep into the mainland of Hvar, and offers several smaller bays on the inside. By far the most visited is Tiha, on the northern part of Starogradski bay. This uninhabited bay offers many tiny canals ideal for berthing on some of the 45 buoys,, with those leeward offering shelter in all winds.

Although the bay is called Tiha, Silent, in the peaks season it is anything but: be warned of the rowdy and loud local event Yacht Week. In the bay, family-owned Hvar restaurant Veli Dolac is famous for their excellent roasted meat and fish. The neighboring Zavala bay is the locals’ favorite spot for a day at the beach, and has ten buoys for boats up to 15 meters.

Croatia Insider’s Guide to Favourite Restaurants on Hvar: Unveiling the Island’s Culinary Treasures

Hvar vs stari grad.

Many visitors are surprised to learn that Stari Grad was the first Greek colony on Hvar and that this city was once the central place of the island. The unique charm of the town is best discovered walking through its winding streets that shy away from the coast. There are many ideas on what to do in the Stari Grad on the island Hvar, but be sure to visit the Petar Hektorović fortress as the most beautiful part of the town.

Since the construction of the new modern waterfront, Stari Grad has become a prestigious yachting destination and thus a key part of this Hvar Luxury Yacht Charter Guide. In addition to 70 berths, the port has 20 buoys, but waves get pretty high with westerly winds. Stari Grad is not protected from any wind, but fortunately for boaters, all but the westerlies here just tussle your hair.

kabal peninsula

Aerial photographs of the Kabal peninsula justifiably charm visitors from endless travel agency windows and promotional posters. Resembling stretched fingers, this peninsula is the natural continuation of the UNESCO-protected Starogradsko polje location.

Nestled on the northern side of Kabal, Žukova bay offers respite from all winds expect for bora, when it wouldn’t be advisable to anchor in its central branch. There you’ll find just several vacation homes, a small beach and stone slabs made by Mother Nature especially for sun worshipers.

There are many attractive nautical destinations on the island of Hvar, but the most beautiful experience around still is sailing through the narrow, winding fjord at the end of which awaits Vrboska – the smallest town on the island. Dense pine trees whose branches descend towards the water unbothered by wind confirm this is the best sheltered bay on the island of Hvar.

The wind around is the strong south wind and the levant, which might – albeit extremely rarely – create tidal waves.

vrboska

The tiny village of Vrboska offers but two possibilities for mooring: at the very entrance, in the ACI marina Vrboska (85 berths), or a little deeper into the bay, at the village waterfront. The spacious bay of Soline, as an azure stepping stone to Vrboska, is a favorite anchorage of smaller and larger yachts.

Visit Jelsa and Hvar town

Jelsa has always been a popular destination for yachtsmen who want to feel the local pules, and in recent years this lively little town has become a favorite of the mega-yacht crowd, after the construction of their brand new waterfront. Completely unprotected from bora, Jelsa offers safe berths for 54 vessels.

Jelsa is also home to several decadent Hvar restaurants and the nearby Tomić winery, very popular among all visitors. Our recommendation: a Mojito in the newly opened cocktail bar.

jelsa hvar yacht charter

Sail the northern shores of the island of Hvar and discover the peaceful local vibe of this Hvar Luxury Yacht Charter Guide. All the while, keep in mind that Pokrivenik bay is the only safe anchorage on the stretch from Jelsa to Sućuraj. This larger bay actually consists of five canals, and by far the most beautiful of them is the one in the middle.

This deeply set canal surrounded by impressive steep cliffs and hiding a beautiful pebble beach with in its center has more to offer than just safety from winds, with views of vineyards and olive groves.

You can anchor in this central canal at depths ranging from 6 to 12 meters, or move into the eastern canal if bora is afoot. There you will find a small pier with one hotel, Timun, whose restaurant serves typical local Mediterranean cuisine.

Boaters are always happy to visit the nearby Pakomina bay for its many excellent family-owned restaurant and free mooring spots on the small waterfront, which, however does not offer good shelter from the ever-present bora.

island of hvar cove pokrivenik

Sućuraj is a small fishing village rarely noticed by yachtsmen while enjoying the Hvar sailing tour. With jugo or levant it will not provide a good shelter, and with south-westerly wind creating small, but unpleasant waves.

Several vessels can be moored laterally inside of the breakwater, and about twenty vessels can expect to find berths in the northern part of the port, on pontoons along the waterfront.

This village is nice enough for a walk, a visit to one of the local Hvar restaurants, a peek into a church or two, or a visit to the three-meter tall statue of St. Nicholas on the pier – to ask for calms seas, of course.

Charter Scorpios today and embark on an unforgettable sailing adventure

Luxury sailing yacht Scorpios external photo

Luxury sailing yacht SCORPIOS was built in 2023 by yacht builder Radez, offering 6 cabins, from which 4 convertible, for up to 12 guests, catered by 11 crew members. This luxury cruising yacht is a true gem, considering her luxury design and exceptional service, offering her guests an unforgettable charter experience. SCORPIOS boasts plenty of unique areas, all designed with ultimate luxury and guest comfort in mind.

From Sućuraj westward, small bays and beautiful Hvar beaches dot the coast like pearls, but consider them all suitable for anchoring only in calm weather. In Mrtinovik and Veprinova bays, many restaurants offer the possibility of mooring by their buoys, as well as excellent food on their picturesque patios. Leave the Šćedro Nature Reserve at the stern and sail at the foot of the highest slopes of the island of Hvar.

beaches in hvar mala stiniva motor yacht charter

Many excellent wines come to life on these slopes, the most famous among them made by one Zlatan Plenković, owner of the small harbor in Sveta Nedjelja and the restaurant Bilo idro, which has a unique wine cellar under the sea. The nearby bays of Zarače and Borče, right next to Milna, attract the eye with their steep cliffs, beautiful pebble beaches, green vegetation and Caribbean shades of water.

In those bays, restaurants offer always fresh, always good food, and more often than not, the possibility of mooring on buoys. However, keep in mind that these bays should also be avoided with southerly winds.

5-day Plan for Sailing from Hvar

Creating a 5-day sailing itinerary from Hvar can be an exciting and rewarding experience for those who love the sea. The first step in planning this itinerary is to choose your yacht and then decide whether you want to go for a bareboat or skippered charter.

If you have experience sailing and navigating, a bareboat charter can provide you with the flexibility to set your own itinerary and explore the islands at your own pace. On the other hand, if you prefer a more relaxed sailing experience, a skippered charter allows you to sit back and enjoy the journey while an experienced skipper takes care of navigating the boat.

Regardless of the charter type, it’s essential to plan and research the best places to visit, taking into consideration the weather conditions, sea currents, and your personal preferences. Keep in mind that the best time to sail in Croatia is from April to October when the weather is warm and the sea is calm.

The best time to visit Croatia depends on your preferences and what you want to do while you are there. If you want to spend time on the beach and enjoy warm weather, the best time to visit is from June to September, when temperatures are typically in the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (24-30 degrees Celsius), and the weather is generally stable, with little chance of storms. If you prefer cooler weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder seasons of April, May, and October may be a good time for sailing in Croatia , but the winds can be strong in the spring and fall, making sailing more challenging.

It is possible to have an enjoyable sailing trip in Croatia in five days, but it will depend on your plans and what you want to see and do. Croatia has a long coastline and numerous islands, so there are many options for sailing trips. If you only have five days, you should focus on a specific region or area rather than trying to cover too much ground. Overall, a 5-day sailing trip in Croatia can be a great way to explore some of the country’s most beautiful coastal regions and experience the charm of the Croatian islands.
