SuperYachtsMonaco

SuperYachtsMonaco is focused on the sale, purchase and charter of yachts of all sizes. Our headquarters are in Monaco and we operate in every region worldwide with a very experienced core team.

Established 2008 in response to growing demand for a company with a simplified approach and a less complicated way of doing things, strong personal relationships are at the heart of our daily business. We offer clear, professional advice and help to make sense of a complex market. You can expect a consistent individualized service from skilled people with a really thorough knowledge of the market.

We concentrate on speedy reaction to enquiries and on finding clever solutions to difficult problems. In every instance we understand that clients want to see optimization and efficiency in what we do.

Our specific sales expertise is in the brokerage of existing yachts as well as new yacht construction contracts. In the representation of individual yachts for sale or construction we maintain a realistic inventory so as to ensure that we can provide the necessary level of attention needed to do a proper job. In yacht charters, SuperYachtsMonaco is a leading agent, representing some of the world’s largest and most exclusive yachts. Our charter specialists create tailor-made holidays on yachts cruising in every corner of the world. In any and all arenas we offer serious insight and guidance on every kind of yacht, including those considered to be off-market and inaccessible.

With headquarters in Monaco and representations around the globe, SuperYachtsMonaco is focused on the sale, purchase and charter of large yachts.

The company, made up of seasoned professionals in the yachting industry, was set up in response to the demand from clients to offer a more discrete and personalized service, away from the large and corporate structure of many brokerage houses.

SuperYachtsMonaco now represents some of the world’s most exclusive charter yachts and creates bespoke charters for clients worldwide. Combined with an array of knowledge and understanding of the industry, SuperYachtsMonaco offers a personable, honest and transparent service with the added ability to offer serious insight and guidance on vessels which may be considered by most to be “off-market”.

We Talk To Jim Evans, Managing Director Of SuperYachtsMonaco

Luxurious Magazine

Gina Baksa discusses the current state of the luxury yachting industry with SuperyachtsMonaco, the Principality’s leading yacht broker.

Jim Evans, Managing Director Of SuperYachtsMonaco

LM: How is the superyacht industry evolving to cater to the demands and expectations of modern-day ultra-high-net-worth consumers, in terms of style, design and technology? JE: The superyacht industry reacts to keep pace with the demands of UHNWI in the same way that all luxury sector companies do. That is to say that there is a lot of cross-pollination between these sectors—for example, interior design trends crossover to the superyacht sector.

Designers, therefore, reflect current trends in their work, with subtle influences on superyacht design that come from the automotive and aircraft industries. Moreover, there is, of course, demand for more green and more economical solutions. The recent announcement about Bill Gates’ yacht order was mostly inaccurate, but the fact remains that he has indeed ordered a yacht and you can be confident that there will be smart energy solutions included in the design brief. Why? Simply because an individual with such a high profile could not afford to ignore these issues and nor would he want to.

LM: Has Brexit had any effect on the superyacht market? JE: Yes, it has. As with the French property market, the British have been reluctant to invest until they know what economic impact Brexit is going to have on their disposable income. The result of the current trade deal talks in the middle of this year will provide the direction everyone wishes for. If the UK strikes a robust deal, then we would expect more confidence from UK clients. Our own prognosis is that it will be a relatively uninspiring deal that is agreed, but from there, and over time, the confidence will definitely return to the market.

Sunseeker Vegas lounge

LM: SuperYachtsMonaco prides itself on its personal approach to yacht brokerage. What makes your personal service stand out? JE: It’s really very simple, yet extremely useful: our service is based on excellent knowledge of the market, honesty and integrity. We have fantastic access to information because people like us, believe us and are ready to share it with us. On a personal level, we are open and flexible for our clients, making sure we understand their needs and interests to create a tailored holiday for them. We understand that whilst there are vast sums of money involved, this is not a core business activity for them. They want to have fun in the process, and we are fun yet knowledgeable people, with more than 160 years of experience between us.

LM: In your earlier career, you worked for the company that manages Abramovich’s yachts. Must have been interesting… any stories? JE: Haha! Nothing that could be regarded as scandalous nor anything that I could share, which would break confidentiality. I would, however, say that Roman Abramovich ought to be given some kind of award by the superyacht industry because his vision and willingness to invest in driving new design, new heights and new technologies around the turn of the millennium was something that started a new trend for creativity and a market that boomed as people saw the possibilities in it.

LM: What yacht construction are you project managing for clients currently? JE: We cannot answer this due to confidentiality agreements I’m afraid. However, we are currently working on some exciting projects available for sale, for example, Stormbreaker. Powerful and muscular with razor-sharp lines, Stormbreaker is a trailblazing design from acclaimed Berlin-based yacht designer Theodoros Fotiadis, and she is ready to build at 90m or 115m, with the range, luxurious space and immense technical capability to ensure owners and guests an epic adventure, whether work or play.

Designed as a genuinely global explorer, a fabulous structural glass atrium at the heart of the yacht will flood her open-plan interiors with natural light, creating an atmospheric environment with panoramic vistas, where travellers feel at one with the elements.

Designed for people who enjoy going off the grid and experiencing something unique every time they are on board, Stormbreaker will push the boundaries of technological innovation with a fully integrated and interactive audiovisual experience by Icon Connect. With a Panoramic 360 imaging system to record and broadcast live footage, guests will never miss a whale breach or ice-fall. Additionally, the yacht will feature an interactive “YachtEye” infotainment system for real-time environment and voyage awareness, and “Best in Class” performance from CAT Audio.

A view over Monaco harbour

LM: What makes Monaco the reigning yacht brokerage destination in the Med? JE: We believe that it is a hub for holidaying UHNWI because they enjoy the Principality for its mixture of business and pleasure. It has such a glamourous history, and with the great hotels available, our clients enjoy Monaco as the starting point from which to depart on yacht cruise adventures around the Mediterranean.

LM: What do you love about living in Monaco? JE: I love the fact that it is a serious place for us to conduct our business, yet it retains the feel of a small and friendly village. The atmosphere of any place starts at the top, and so we benefit from Prince Albert’s very reasonable approach to life and to business, as well as having a very human touch. There are not many places where you can see royalty down the pub!

LM: Which nationalities are the most prolific buyers of superyachts the most in 2019/20? JE: In 2019*, the highest yacht-owning nation remained the United States with 22.7% of the market, followed by Russia with 10.6%, Greece 6.2%, the UK 5.9% and Italy 5.7%. The dynamics of the US and Russia as the two most prolific yacht owning nations is not new, and whilst the US indeed accounts for the most yachts, Russia is known for its propensity to own the larger yachts. Looking at new yachts in build, the US market is again the leader accounting for 17% of yachts in build and Russia 11 %.

*Based on industry statistics from SuperYacht Times, The State of Yachting Report 2019.

LM: What challenge is the superyacht industry facing in 2020? JE: Well, the Coronavirus, as people will for a while be caught up in the hysteria of misinformation and be afraid to travel. We expect there will be quite a downturn in the market as a result of this health emergency, and it will be the biggest challenge of the year.

LM: Where do you see the superyacht market developing in the next five years? JE: Difficult to say. If at any moment it became socially and politically acceptable in China to own a large yacht, then we could have some serious influx of new buyers to the market, but that is not yet the case. In the meantime, we see a return to the market of some Russian buyers, and with the relative inevitability of another four years of Trump, we expect the American market to remain healthy.

LM: What are your thoughts on e-powered yachts? JE: They are not there yet but, as with electric cars, the development is in progress, and it becomes more and more a reality we will see soon.

Sunseeker Vegas at sea

LM: SuperYachtsMonaco has three must-have superyachts to beat the winter blues. Tell us more about Vegas, Mischief and Cloudbreak… JE: The 37-metre Sunseeker Vegas is ideal for experiencing Australia in a new way. It’s the perfect yacht for private and corporate charters, to enjoy Sydney for a special event with family, friends or for business or cruise the Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef or even New Zealand. Spacious and comfortable, Vegas’ elegant interior is paired with an expansive exterior split over three decks.

Packed with the very latest water toys, onboard highlights include a magnificent master suite with a private lounge, a large open-plan salon, plus a spa pool on the sundeck for total relaxation. Accommodation is for 12 guests in five cabins and space for up to 100 guests for events. She also has accommodation for her professional six-person crew, which includes a dedicated private chef for your voyage.

The Mischief Yacht has a Michelin-trained and local chef

The 30-metre Mischief should be the yacht of choice for our clients that want to escape to idyllic Indonesia. An all-inclusive experience with a Michelin-trained and local chef, it offers the best of all worlds. Mischief will take her guests to discover hidden corners of the world in the Komodo Islands, Raja Ampat, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Moyo, Alor, Ambon & the Banda islands or Cenderawasih bay end and help them succumb to the gentle lap of luxury mischief offers.

Mischief Yacht

Mischief can welcome six to eight guests in three to four cabins, including an upper deck master cabin with its own private aft-facing sundeck. There is diving for certified divers and toys including canoes and paddleboards.

For those lucky enough to find a gap in her schedule Cloudbreak is 75 metres of inspirational yachting, with an itinerary currently cruising the Andaman’s in April, the Maldives in early May and then the eastern Mediterranean this summer. Cloudbreak was designed for extreme exploration, built by luxury superyacht experts and is fully equipped for epic adventures in the most remote destinations on the planet.

Cloudbreak superyacht

Cloudbreak’s sophisticated interior was created by the Paris-based architect Christian Liaigre, and her toy box is jam-packed with the latest extreme sports equipment, an enormous onboard garage houses, two large tenders plus a full range of inflatables and water toys. Equipped with a helipad for all-access heli-skiing, when it comes to providing high-octane thrills, Cloudbreak knows no boundaries. Built to withstand even the harshest weather conditions, Cloudbreak is an open invitation to discover the world.

Sunset view over the lavish cityscape of Monaco, a premier destination for luxury yacht charters on the French Riviera

Monaco reigns supreme as the unquestioned summer playground for luxury yacht charters.

Glide into the sparkling waters surrounding the Principality of Monaco aboard a luxury yacht charter and step ashore to soak up the party atmosphere. Monaco is the epitome of glamor and one of the most exclusive capitals in the world.

With a long history of glitz and glamor, Monte Carlo – the principality’s most exclusive district – has been a magnet for the rich and famous for centuries. Offering gastronomic delights, iconic nightlife, and designer boutiques, a yacht charter in Monaco is a mecca of luxury. The best things to see and do in Monaco

Despite its compact size, Monaco is a luxury destination with a superb selection of things to see and do.

Even if you don’t want a flutter, the famed Monte-Carlo Casino is well worth visiting, located in the Golden Square, Monaco’s most exclusive address. Order a martini at the bar and admire the Belle Epoque building, designed by Charles Garnier and Jules Dutrou, with its many chandeliers and frescoes. Next door, the gilded Hôtel de Paris houses Alain Ducasse’s Michelin-starred Le Louis XV. Alternatively, the late Joël Robuchon’s eponymous restaurant is just a short stroll away at the equally elegant Hôtel Métropole.

This city is also well known for partying, whether aboard your superyacht or in the town at venues such as Sass Cafe, Twiga, or Jimmy’z nightclub.

For those who love to shop, Monaco is a dream with its collection of designer boutiques housed along with Monaco’s Avenue de Monte-Carlo, Avenue des Beaux-Arts, and the Allées Lumières center. From Piaget to YSL and all the other LVMH brands, among many others, there is no bona fide international designer without a boutique in the principality.

For those looking for a bit of pampering while on a Monaco superyacht charter, two spas rule the well-being scene in Monte Carlo: The Spa Metropole by Givenchy at the Metropole Monte Carlo and the Thérmes Marins Monte Carlo, which boasts a vast menu of thalassotherapy experiences.

For those wanting to stretch their sea legs, Monaco has something to offer all fitness capabilities. Wander the old town’s narrow streets in Monaco-Ville and visit the Prince’s Palace and Saint Nicholas Cathedral. If you are a fan of Grace Kelly, head to the rose garden in Fontvieille Park, built in her memory. For additional space in Monaco, check out the Jardin Exotique de Monaco and the Japanese Gardens.

Golf enthusiasts are in for a treat as well, with the Golf Club de Monte Carlo and the Monte Carlo Country Club. Both offer excellent courses with panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Monaco Grand Prix Yacht Charter

One of the most popular times to enjoy a Monaco luxury yacht charter is during the famed Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, which takes place every year in late May or early June. The Monaco Grand Prix is considered Formula One’s most challenging and prestigious, with the race taking place on the streets of Monte Carlo.

A luxury yacht charter during the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most coveted reservations in the world. With a yacht berthed in Port Hercules just moments from the track, you will enjoy the best seats in the house, taking in the exciting and exhilarating race right from the deck of your luxury charter yacht.

The Most Impressive Superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show

Following a summer of record demand this year’s event was glitzier than ever.

By Irenie Forshaw

Luisine

Each September, thousands of yacht builders, designers and owners descend on Port Hercule for the Monaco Yacht Show. It is here, in the heart of the picturesque Côte d’Azur, that boat lovers make their annual pilgrimage to catch a glimpse of the world’s newest – and most exciting – vessels.

This year, the hotly anticipated event took place between September 28 and October 1. And, following a summer of record demand for superyachts spurred by the pandemic, the 2022 iteration was bigger and glitzier than ever.

With over 600 exhibitors showcasing 125 superyachts, there was no shortage of incredible boats on display. So, whether you’re considering taking the plunge and purchasing a yacht of your own, or you’re simply here to marvel at the latest builds, we’ve rounded up the most impressive vessels on display at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Project TIME

Project TIME yacht exterior

Kicking off our list of the biggest reveals at the Monaco Yacht Show is Project TIME. The 282-ft explorer yacht concept is the brainchild of German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen and Valentin Design.

Suited for cold and warm water expeditions, the ship has been designed to travel everywhere from Antarctica to the South Pacific Islands. Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, Project Time would deliver a maximum speed of 16 knots, with a cruising speed of 14 knots, and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

Boasting a helipad platform, submarine, two lounges and even an onboard German brewery, this is no ordinary yacht. The extravagant vessel also features an extra wide owner’s duplex suite complete with two marble bathrooms and an expansive balcony.

Dutch shipyard Feadship unveiled its eleventh cutting-edge yacht concept at the show, Slice. Studio de Voogt was brought in for the project, with the ambitious goal of turning “the inside out and the outside in”. To this end, the design team fitted the yacht with a glass strip running from bow to stern, bathing the decks in natural light.

Unlike many yachts that are plagued by gloomy corridors and claustrophobic living spaces, the interiors onboard Slice are bright and breezy. At the heart of the yacht on the main deck is a sprawling 750-sq-ft atrium flanked by cascading circular balconies, which, according to Feadship is so much more than a lobby and instead becomes “a destination in its own right”.

In a sign of Feadship’s dedication to using the latest technology, Slice would be fitted with a propulsion system powered by four dual-fuel generators modified to run on both methanol and non-fossil diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil), with the generated power delivered to two Azimuthing pods.

Luisine yacht with helicopter

Our list of the best superyachts on display at Monaco Yacht Show would not be complete without mentioning Lusine. The 196-ft vessel is Heesen’s largest ever steel Fast Displacement motor yacht and features a sleek silhouette with black thermo-bonded dark glass windows to keep out prying eyes.

Perhaps most impressive of all is the touch-and-go helipad on the sundeck which can accommodate an Airbus H-135. Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design was brought in to mastermind the lavish interiors. Lusine comfortably sleeps twelve set across six spacious staterooms, each of which has been thoughtfully adorned with bespoke furnishings and elegant sculptures. The most exclusive abode is the owner’s apartment located up on the bridge deck which has its own staircase to ensure total privacy.

Come Together

Come Together yacht

Next up on our list is the first vessel in Amel’s new 60 Limited Edition Series. Designed by Espen Oeino International and built in the Netherlands, Come Together was delivered to her owner this Spring for an estimated €69.5m (approx. $68.6m).

The gleaming new superyacht spans 196 ft and features a teak deck, steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Winch Design is responsible for the laid-back yet elegant interiors that are reminiscent of a relaxed family home in shades of walnut and bronze.

Come Together has been fitted with a hybrid propulsion system for smooth, quiet cruising and features an expansive sun deck and 157-ft swim platform.

XV67 yacht exterior

Winch Design and Heesen also unveiled XV67 at the Monaco Yacht Show – a brand new explorer yacht concept that builds on their XVenture design concept from four years ago.

The 187-ft vessel has been given a refreshed layout and updated with the latest technology. While the robust steel hull remains, she is 32 ft longer than her predecessor and the tenders have been moved to the open aft deck freeing up space for even larger guest cabins and an expansive three-story master stateroom.

As seems to be becoming commonplace onboard the newest superyachts, VX67 boasts a helipad (that functions as an al fresco cinema when not in use) and has space to store a personal submarine on deck.

Meyer took the Monaco Yacht Show as an opportunity to share the very first renderings of its sustainable One50 concept. The vessel – which was first unveiled a year ago at the 2021 show – is powered electrically by 25,000 kilowatts enabling her to reach a maximum speed of 23 knots.

After a year long wait to see what One50 could like, the renderings certainly don’t disappoint. Wellness is at the heart of the design; the 492-ft yacht features a retractable swimming pool, massage parlour, sauna and hammam. Other highlights include the top deck which is reserved entirely for the owner’s use and boasts an enormous suite complete with a private terrace.

Four Seasons Yacht

four seasons yacht rendering

Last but by no means least on our roundup of the most impressive vessels unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show is Four Seasons’ first branded yacht . Slated to set sail at the end of 2025, no expense has been spared by the luxury hotel group, with each suite costing a cool $4.2m to build.

The gigantic vessel will be 679 ft long and 88.6 ft wide with 14 decks and a total of 95 rooms and suites. While the initial launch is just one yacht, the order includes the option to add two further ships in the future – amounting to an eyewatering $1.1bn.

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri will build the Four Seasons yacht in Trieste before Tillberg Design of Sweden and London-based Martin Brudnizki are brought in to put their stamp on the interiors. As you would expect from the luxury hotel brand, the yacht will feature an array of facilities including gourmet restaurants, bars, and a full-service spa.

16 Things To Know Before Going To Monaco

  • Key takeaways:
  • Monaco's lack of personal income tax attracts high-net-worth individuals, making it a haven for the wealthy.
  • Monaco has an excellent public transport system, including buses and a scenic railway, making it easy to navigate.
  • Gambling is a big part of Monaco's allure, with the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo being a must-visit attraction.

Playground to the rich and famous, Monaco is enigmatic to many foreigners and reportedly the world's richest country . Appearing as a sea of casinos, five-star resorts, and expensive yachts, the microstate seems almost like a theme park based on all things opulent and lavish. It certainly seems too extravagant for mere mortals to visit.

Even though a sizeable chunk of the local population is made of millionaires, one doesn’t have to be extremely wealthy or famous to visit Monaco . Anybody can go and have a total ball - they just have to know a few travel tips before you go! Keep reading to find out what they are.

UPDATE: 2023/10/15 21:31 EST BY LUANA FERREIRA

Everything You Should Know About Visiting Monaco

One can never know so much about a place before visiting. Despite its small size, Monaco is a unique place, so this list has been updated to include more things about the microstate.

RELATED: Why La Rochelle On The West Coast Of France Should Be On Everyone's Holiday List No Income Tax

Monaco's most distinctive feature is its lack of personal income tax. This fiscal policy has attracted individuals seeking tax advantages, making it a haven for high-net-worth individuals. Residents of Monaco enjoy the benefits of retaining a more significant portion of their income.

This unique tax status, luxurious lifestyle, and picturesque setting make Monaco an enticing destination for those seeking financial advantages without compromising on quality of life. However, it's important to note that the absence of income tax is just one facet of Monaco's broader tax and financial regulations, which may vary depending on individual circumstances.

  • The average annual income of Monaco's residents is $186,080

Excellent Public Transport

Travelers don't need to worry about spending a lot on taxis when in Monaco, as it has an excellent transport system that is efficient and well-connected. Locals and tourists can rely on buses and a scenic railway.

The buses cover the entire principality, making it easy to navigate the compact city-state. The railway connects Monaco with neighboring French towns, providing picturesque views of the Mediterranean coastline.

The city's small size allows walking between many attractions. While taxis are readily available, well-planned public transport offers a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative.

Yes, You Can Gamble

This is the first thing that everyone wants to know about Monaco. Because gambling is illegal in so many countries, Monaco can seem like a totally different world. The Casino de Monte-Carlo is one of the most famous in the world and is worth visiting even if you don’t want to gamble at all. Remember, this is the very same casino that James Bond often visits!

While it’s not mandatory that you gamble, there will be a lot of wealthy people at this casino who will expect you to either join in or get out of the way.

  • Where to Go: Casino de Monte-Carlo, Casino Café de Paris , Place du Casino

Tipping Is Not Mandatory

In a luxurious destination like Monaco, you would think that tipping would be not only compulsory but at an all-time high rate. But in reality, tipping isn’t mandatory in Monaco. Servers and staff tend to be very relaxed, and in most cases, it will be up to you as to whether or not you would like to leave a tip . Remember that hotel service (and most service charges) will already be included in your final bill.

If one wants to leave a tip for exceptional service, around 10 percent is considered to be appropriate. But there won’t be hard feelings if they don’t!

Stay Away During The Grand Prix

It’s one thing to specifically visit Monaco so you can attend the Grand Prix. But it’s another to unwittingly plan your vacation at the same time as this famous race is on, not realizing that everything is a hundred times more hectic in Monaco during the Grand Prix.

Many of the main streets will be closed off during the race. Not only that, but there will be far bigger crowds to contend with, and the whole place will seem much more confusing. You’re better off visiting outside the month of May when the race normally takes place.

  • Grand Prix 2024: Thu 23 May - Sun 26 May

Be Prepared To Pay A Lot

One of the most important things to know about Monaco is that it’s not the sort of destination you go to if you’re looking to save money. There are plenty of locations around the world that are cheap as chips, but Monaco isn’t one of them . Around 32 percent of the local population are millionaires. Just let that sink in. Monaco is expensive to visit .

Most hotels and restaurants will charge much more than one is probably used to pay, even by European standards. There are free things to do in the country, but in general, one should be prepared for some large bills.

It’s Really Small But Heavily Populated

Before traveling to Monaco, it’s a good idea to become familiar with how big the country actually is: Only two square kilometers. To put it into perspective, there is only one country in the whole world that is smaller than Monaco, and that’s Vatican City which is contained within Rome .

Even though Monaco is super small, it is the world’s most densely populated country, with a total population size of around 37,800. Add on the flocks of tourists, and it can get crowded. Avoid traveling in the summer months and in May during the Grand Prix if you prefer fewer crowds.

  • Monaco population: 36,686

You’ll Be Walking Everywhere

Given that Monaco is such a small country, it should come as no surprise that the most common way to get around is to walk . This isn’t as easy as it sounds since the landscape is quite hilly. But still, other than catching the city bus or a boat, it’s often the only option you’ll have. There are taxis, but they tend to charge incredibly steep prices.

The city bus can be a cost-effective way of getting around that doesn’t challenge your body so much. But if the weather permits, walking will allow people to properly absorb the wonderful surrounding scenery.

Visit During The Warmer Months

Although you might want to stay away between June and August if you don’t like crowds, the warmer months are the best time to visit Monaco. That’s why it’s so popular, then! And with its beaches and resorts, Monaco does tend to be a typical summer vacation. If you travel to Monaco in the winter, be prepared for cold temperatures.

To avoid the cold and crowds, the best option is to visit in early May before the Grand Prix or in September and October, when the weather is still balmy.

There’s A Dress Code

Monaco is in the Mediterranean, so you’ll find that many locals have that relaxed Mediterranean attitude toward life. But at the same time, it’s one of the most prestigious places you can visit. According to Going Somewhere Soon , there is a dress code to abide by. The main thing to remember is that you can’t wear beach clothes around the town, even if you’ve just visited the beach.

Classier establishments will also have specific rules about what one can wear, so it’s always better to check before you go. Generally, make sure you’re not barefoot and are at least wearing a shirt! It's good to remember that other countries also have strict dressing codes .

Understand That Monaco Is Not France

A lot of travelers get confused between Monaco and France. It’s easy to assume that Monaco is just another region of France, considering the close proximity between France and Monaco. There’s also the fact that the majority of people speak French. But if you want to leave the best impression on the locals, don’t make the mistake of saying (out loud) that Monaco is part of France.

Monaco is an entirely separate country. It has its own language (although French is widely spoken), and locals may be a little miffed to hear that you don’t recognize their country as an individual territory.

Bring Your ID With You

As a rule of thumb, bring your identification with you when you’re out and about in Monaco. This can be a driver’s license or a passport. The main reason for this is that different rules apply to locals and foreigners in Monaco. The most well-known is that foreigners are allowed to gamble, but locals aren’t . They aren’t even allowed to set foot in the casinos.

So if travelers can’t produce an ID to show that they’re not a local, they probably won’t be allowed in the casino. And for many people, this is the major highlight of traveling to Monaco!

Monaco On A Budget Isn't Impossible

Admittedly, Monaco isn't the easiest place to be thrifty with money. That said, it's not impossible to go to Monaco on a reasonable budget. Visitors who can look past the grandeur of luxury five-star hotels will find that there are budget hotels and even hostels scattered around the city-state.

Because Monaco is walkable, commuting costs are next to none. Plus, Monaco may have extravagant restaurants that dish out flavors of the rich, but it also has plenty of food markets that serve freshly caught seafood on the cheap every day of the week.

  • Travelers can expect to spend approximately €211 ($221) per day when in Monaco .

Driving Isn't The Best Idea

Tempted to take your own sports car out for a spin after watching Lamborghinis and Ferraris zip away on the streets of Monaco? Think again! Although luxury sports cars are easily available for rent -- as are other non-sports cars -- driving in Monaco is not as flashy as it may seem.

The small city-state can easily get congested, and its many tunnels and overpasses can make driving in Monaco an extremely tight and anxiety-inducing experience.

Street parking is practically non-existent, so unless you plan to center your Monaco adventures exclusively around places that offer valet parking, driving is probably not the best idea.

There's Much To Do Besides Gamble In The Casinos

Casinos may be the highlight of Monaco, but it's not the only thing that's worth checking out. Monaco is also the land of museums, breezy gardens, and marvelous architecture. The Oceanographic Museum, for example, is over 100 years old and has one of the world's oldest aquariums overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Nearly a fifth of Monaco is occupied by lush gardens and parks. Plus, the cathedrals and chapels of Monaco are proof that opulent architecture isn't just limited to luxury hotels; it's everywhere in Monaco.

Can't Find A Flight To Monaco? That's Because There Is No Airport

Monaco is one of only five countries in the world to not have an airport which makes sense considering how small the city-state is. So how exactly do you get to Monaco, then? The closest airport to Monaco is the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport in France, some thirty-odd kilometers away.

From there, visitors have several options. For those who can afford it, helicopter services regularly run between the Nice airport and Monaco, connecting the two in under 10 minutes. As for the rest of the common folk, trains, buses, boats, and rented cars are the way to go.

The Five Giants of the Monaco Yacht Show 2024

By Sophia Spanton

Held between the 25th and 28th of September, the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 is set to host a collection of superyachts that is sure to leave those attending breathless. Superyachts.com takes a look at the five largest vessels that are set to dominate the skyline of Port Hercule, standing out not only for their sheer size but their unparalleled opulence.

KISMET (122m) At an impressive 122 metres, KISMET leads the pack as the largest yacht set to attend the show. Delivered by German shipyard Lurssen and boasting interior styling by British designer Reymond Langton Design, this award-winning vessel is a testament to world-class luxury yacht chartering.

Accommodating up to 12 guests in eight cabins, KISMET offers a wealth of amenities, but one worth noting is her beauty salon, offering a range of treatments to pamper and restore. Guests on board can unwind in the steam room, soothe tired limbs in the sauna or rejuvenate in the plunge pool under the sun. KISMET’s cruising speed of 13 knots and maximum speed of 19 knots ensure both comfort and performance.

KISMET is being exhibited by Lurssen and Cecil Wright, and is exclusively available for charter with Cecil Wright from €3,000,000 per week.

RENAISSANCE (112m) 112-metre RENAISSANCE is currently the largest yacht delivered by Freire Shipyard, representing a new standard of beauty in luxury charter yachts. Prior to RENAISSANCE, Freire Shipyard's largest superyacht deliveries were the 74m NAIA in 2011 and the 74m OceanXplorer in 2010, RENAISSANCE therefore marking a significant milestone for the Spanish shipbuilder as their largest and most ambitious superyacht project to date.

The beach club is truly a destination unto itself. In addition to the latest water toys to keep guests entertained, she features a bar, a cosy dining area by the water, and gorgeous lounging spaces, making it easy to spend an entire day. With interior styling by English designer Bannenberg & Rowell, Renaissance can accommodate up to 36 guests onboard. With an exceptional range of 8,600 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 12 knots, RENAISSANCE offers both long-range capability and onboard comfort, making her an ideal choice for extended luxury charters.

RENAISSANCE is being exhibited by Burgess and is available for charter.

DAR (90.13m) 90-metre DAR, built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco , is a multi-award-winning yacht featuring interior styling by Italian designer Nuvolari Lenard. Accommodating up to 12 guests in seven cabins, DAR offers a perfect blend of space and luxury. Dar's most striking feature is her full-height glass wall in the upper salon, providing breathtaking views while maintaining privacy.

Her impressive amenities include a beauty salon, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club, and gym. With a cruising speed of 13 knots and a maximum speed of 20 knots, DAR combines performance with comfort, further enhanced by her at-anchor stabilisers.

DAR is being exhibited at MYS by Large Yacht Corp.

BOLD (85.3) BOLD, an 85.3-meter expedition yacht by Australian shipyard SilverYachts, stands out for her adventurous spirit. This multi-award-winning vessel, with interior styling by Vain Interiors, offers flexible accommodation for up to 12 guests in eight cabins.

BOLD is designed for global exploration, boasting an unparalleled speed for a yacht of her size; this explorer vessel can reach 23 knots, enabling rapid repositioning. Her shallow draft of just 2.8 metres also allows access to cruising grounds inaccessible to many large yachts, expanding the horizons of adventure. Her semi-displacement hull and twin MTU engines allow for impressive speeds and a range of up to 5,500 nautical miles, making her ideal for long-range charters to remote destinations.

BOLD is being exhibited by SilverYachts.

ENERGY (77.8m) Rounding out our top five is ENERGY, a 77.8-meter motor yacht built by Amels . With exterior design by Espen Oeino and interior styling by French design house Zuretti, ENERGY combines classic elegance with modern luxury.

The bridge deck's music lounge, engineered for exceptional acoustics, features a Steinway baby grand piano and a bar topped with elegant marble. Accommodating up to 14 guests in seven suites, and supported by a crew of 27, this yacht offers features such as a beauty salon, underwater lights, beach club, and deck jacuzzi. ENERGY cruises comfortably at 13 knots with a maximum speed of 17 knots and boasts an impressive range of 5,000 nautical miles.

ENERGY is being exhibited by Burgess , who she is currently listed for sale with.

These five extraordinary yachts represent the pinnacle of maritime luxury and engineering, promising to be the stars of the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 . Whether you're a seasoned charterer, superyacht owner or a curious enthusiast, these vessels offer a glimpse into the future of superyacht design and capabilities.
