Biography: catamaran yacht sailing.

An avid sailor since the age of 14, Captain Craig Doring has over 25 years of experience in sailing. A graduate of the University of Washington, Captain Craig sailed for several years racing sloops in the Puget Sound and joining his uncle on cruises in the San Juan Islands.

After spending many years fishing the Bering and Nor seas, Captain Craig returned to his passion of sailing personal yachts with Moorings and delivering private yachts throughout the Caribbean. As proprietor of Excalibur Adventures, a small charter company founded in 2000, Captain Craig catered to serving youth in their sailing adventures.

What's in a name, a kittiwake is....

The catamaran has a special name that reflects its seagoing character.

According to Wikipedia, kittiwakes are a seabird species in the gull family Laridae. The name is derived from its call, a shrill ‘kittee-wa-aaake, kitte-wa-aaake’.

They have a white head and body, grey back, grey wings tipped with solid black, and a yellow bill. They can have either black or red legs.

In contrast to the dappled chicks of other gull species, kittiwake chicks are downy and white since they are under relatively little threat of predation, as the nests are on extremely steep cliffs. Unlike other gull chicks which wander around as soon as they can walk, kittiwake chicks instinctively sit still in the nest to avoid falling off.

Kittiwakes are coastal breeding birds ranging in the North Pacific, North Atlantic, and Arctic oceans. They are the only gull species that are exclusively cliff-nesting.

Kittiwake’s owners are Mark Cohen and Leigh Scott, a married couple who live in northern Virginia. Mark is the board chair of Creative Planning Trust Company. He’s also an instrument-rated pilot. When he’s not in the office, Mark enjoys flying his Cirrus airplane, woodworking, photography, and all kinds of outdoor sports. Leigh is a vegan chef. When she’s not in the kitchen, Leigh enjoys gardening, photography, and all kinds of outdoor sports. Leigh also serves as the Executive Director of a philanthropic nonprofit called the Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation .

Adam’s deep knowledge of the Exumas and Rubicon’s shallow draft mean almost no remote anchorage is off limits for guests on Rubicon. Fabulously outfitted and refitted to like-new condition, Tahina handles beautifully, offers plush accommodations and lots of water toys. Husband-and-wife team Jason and Lara have sailed thousands of miles together. About Our Location

While reconstruction efforts continue in the Abacos following the devastation caused by hurricane Dorian in 2019, Navigare is excited and proud to be a part of the recovery with a new charter base opened in 2021.

The Navigare base is located in Marsh Harbor on site at the Conch Inn Hotel and Marina , only 10 minutes from the Leonard Thompson Airport.

Cruisers and charterers in the Abaco will enjoy a steadily warm climate with sustained trade winds; similar to southern Florida, generally sunny with slightly colder temperatures from December through February.

Local Considerations

The official currency for the Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar, which, like the US dollar, is denoted with a dollar sign. The denotation B$ is used to distinguish it from other Dollar currencies. The U.S. dollar is on par with the Bahamian dollar and is accepted all over the Bahamas, so there is no need to change to Bahamian if you are able to pay in USD.

Carefree Pack

Navigare Carefree includes damage waiver insurance with full coverage, welcome package, final cleaning, bed sheets & towels, dinghy, outboard engine & fuel, propane gas, full water tanks, and snorkeling equipment.

Yacht Fuel is not included – the fuel tank will be full when your charter starts and you are responsible for topping off the fuel tank at the end of your charter. The price of the Carefree Pack varies by boat size and is a flat fee for bookings up to one week. A surcharge applies for bookings of 2+ weeks.

Cloudy skies or a slight chance of rain are not grounds for cancellation or rescheduling. If a cancellation or rescheduling due to bad weather is necessary, either the Renter or the Boat Owner must send an email to [email protected] stating the reason. A U.S. tourist died in the Bahamas after a catamaran carrying more than 100 people sank while traveling to a private island, police said Wednesday.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings told The Associated Press that the unidentified 74-year-old woman was from Broomfield, Colorado and was on a five-day vacation with her family when the catamaran sank late Tuesday morning.

The rest of the passengers and crew members were rescued. Two other unidentified people were taken to a medical facility, police said, but their conditions were not immediately known.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the 74-year-old woman died.

Police said in a statement that the woman was found unresponsive as they helped pull the passengers and crew members from the water. They said she was given CPR and then taken to a dock where she was declared dead.

Life vests were available, and those aboard were wearing them, according to authorities.

Police said the double-deck catamaran began taking on water after departing Paradise Island with a group of tourists headed to Blue Lagoon Island, a popular destination located just northeast of the capital of Nassau.

A video posted on social media showed some passengers yelling as the catamaran began listing on its right side, prompting tourists to slowly start jumping into the water as they swam toward nearby boats.

Police said the Royal Bahamas Defense Force also helped with the rescue, as well as nearby pleasure craft.
