Broker’s Comments

Felci 71, MARDOR is hull number three of five designed by Felci Yachts and built with cutting edge techniques and materials at CN Yacht 2000, now called ICE Yachts.

She was built using a composite material for the hull, in both carbon and kevlar vacuum infused with vinyl epoxy resin. Carbon reinforcements are used in high load areas to keep the strength up and the weight down. All the bulkheads of the boat are fully in carbon, a double hull bow is provided in case of front crash, and her bow thruster is in a watertight compartment in the crew cabin.

In light winds, her modest displacement enables her to sail at the wind speed with the drifter sail, meaning a lot less time under engine and focusing on what matters the most, the sailing. Her lofty carbon rig keeps the weight down aloft, so as the wind increases, stability is kept in check and she carries on powering on and eating up the miles.

When it gets to a certain point, reefing is very simple with a push of the button and ease of the halyard lead back into the cockpit, the in boom furling takes care of reducing sail very quickly, and without fuss.

A USP of the yacht is the master stateroom, located in the centre of the yacht, and full width, maximising the available space and in complete privacy from the other cabins. It is an unusual layout that works very well for comfortable cruising with crew, or a family.

Further aft, with a separate entrance is a further cabin, for the skipper while passage-making, or for guests with their own space. The interior layout is very clever and flexible for all requirements, be it family cruising or a yacht to live aboard in the summer, and to work from remotely.

The DNA of Felci is evident in this quite stunning, sleek, powerful and easily handled yacht. There is a dedicated crew cabin at the bow with its sink and WC. This room can be used as a crew cabin, or sail locker. Therefore there are two suites – master cabin with bathroom and separate shower box, one guest cabin with its bathroom and shower, and one crew cabin with WC and sink; a watertight door divided the bow master cabin shower with crew cabin room.

Owner’s Comments

When we built MARDOR our aim was ‘To Be Free’, and not dependent on crew! This yacht can be easily sailed by two. My wife and I sailed together and had a fantastic time aboard MARDOR around the Mediterranean, especially in strong winds such as ‘Chiclades’. We were kept safe in MARDOR’s aft cockpit, from where the yacht and her sails can be easily controlled. From the safety of the cockpit you also have easy access to the chart table and engine room located below decks, just at the bottom of the Saloon steps. MARDOR sails beautifully upwind, softly meeting the waves, offering fantastic memories whilst keeping her crew safe and dry.

A LUXURY YACHT DESIGNED FOR OUTDOOR LIVING

The Dufour 48 luxury yacht has been designed for enjoying the fresh air on the ocean. Life on board is comfortable at all times, both below deck and outside.

The aft cockpit has been redesigned to offer significant space. When under way, moving around on board is simple and natural. Two tables provide a splendid spot for enjoying meals or simply relaxing at anchor.

What would a Dufour be without its aft platform? Once again equipped with a plancha grill, it comes with a host of new features. It’s a genuine outdoor galley, equipped with all the essentials.

To complete the layout, the Dufour 48 has a second cockpit, this time, forward. Here, a sun lounger can be installed for unforgettable moments of relaxation at anchor or under way.

EVER MORE MODERN LINES

The design of the Dufour 48 sailboat has been redrawn by naval architect Umberto Felci of Felci Yachts Design. The lines are fluid and the boat offers a great amount of volume. The usual coachroof glazing has been redesigned as longitudinal windows with integrated opening hatches.

EXCEPTIONAL LIGHT

Already a focal point aboard previous models of the Dufour 48, light is once again a major feature. The coachroof’s full-length windows provide constant light, which is diffused throughout the interior saloon and galley.

When the mattresses from the sun loungers are removed from the forward cockpit, large windows are revealed, letting in even more light to the yacht’s interior.

OPTIMISED INTERIORS

Depending on which version of the Dufour 48 sailboat you choose, all the furniture has been optimised to ensure unrivalled comfort. If you choose the forward or lateral galley, there is always plenty of storage space provided.

Dedicated interior saloon tables have been created by interior designer Ardizio Design. These are optimised for the three- and four-cabin versions.

In the cabins, blackout blinds are integrated directly into the ceiling. So, despite the brightness of the boat, you won’t be disturbed by the very first rays of daybreak.

Felci Yacht: at Cannes with two new projects

Felci Yacht was present at the Cannes Yachting Festival with two new Custom projects designed for ICE yachts- a yard specializing in building exclusive custom-built yachts in very small series – and its latest project for Dufour Yachts, the new ‘entry level’ of the famous French shipyard specialising in large series production.

Apparently therefore two different production worlds with two different types of customers.

How do you combine these two worlds within a single design studio ?

Bringing together these two worlds, these two ways of interpreting both design and the project as a whole, is certainly not something that can be improvised.

We have been fortunate enough to have had to relate to these two realities from our very beginnings; we have always had to split our time between making unique products, communicating directly with the end customer, and designing boats, both racing and cruising, destined to be reproduced in multiple units.

How is it possible to combine the technical requirements necessary to produce a custom-made project down to executive detail with those of easy production and product transversality necessary for a project intended for series production?

On the one hand, there is the need to create a unique, custom-made object, tailored for the customer, while respecting the peculiarities and traditions of the shipyard; on the other hand, there is the need to create an economically sustainable product, easy to mass-produce, but not lacking in those aesthetic and functional values that today’s market can no longer give up.

In order to succeed in combining these requirements, which at times may even appear to be opposing, a very broad competence is needed, which makes it possible to dialogue constructively with the various players involved, and also the ability to weigh up, evaluate and know how to carry out the various choices with balance.

What is your connection with the creations of Felci Yacht, once your designs are turned into reality?

We feel that our designs generate what will become the life, the character of the boat or boats that will be born in the future.

In a way, beyond all the requests we receive, we like to think that we are the ones who give a certain DNA to a project and thus to a real object.

Clearly, during the development of the project there will be the necessary mediations, the necessary balances linked to the world of production with which we will be dealing, but certainly the ability to dialogue with the clients first, and then with the workers is one of the most difficult and most fascinating aspects of this job.

How much gratification does your presence at Cannes give you?

It seems clear to me that successful products, as we hope those of Ice Yachts and Dufour will be, are such thanks to the experience and commitment of so many entities.

Design, by definition, is carried out first and therefore has the specific task of drawing the guidelines that the rest of the process must then follow.

This does not mean imposing one’s own choices and personal vision of the product, but working with a clear responsibility for one’s role and what, if well managed, it can bring to the product.
