Brockport Yacht Club

A premier Rochester area yacht club since 1904

Brockport Yacht Club is a premier Rochester area yacht club.

yacht clubs on lake ontario

Welcome to our premier sailing yacht club on beautiful Lake Ontario just a few miles west of Rochester, NY!   How would define a premier yacht club?  We define it as a close knit  community of safety minded sailing enthusiasts who share a passion for the water, the wind, and the art of sailing.

We also define premier as being a “Do-It-Yourself” organization.  We opt-out of the high dues, expensive slips, and minimum bar/restaurant monthly tabs and instead focus on working together to keep dues reasonable.  Members take active roles in the planning and running of social events, club maintenance, club meetings, club spring opening, fall winterizing, and boat launch and haul-out work parties.

Located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, our club boasts some of the best sailing conditions in the region. The lake is known for its consistent winds and clear, fresh water, making it the perfect playground for sailors.  Whether you’re looking to learn how to sail, race competitively, or just enjoy a leisurely cruise on the lake with friends and family, our club has something for everyone of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans. We offer a full calendar of events throughout the sailing season, including regattas, races, and social events.

Our facilities include a two story clubhouse with a meeting room and kitchen, as well as showers and changing rooms.  Our outdoor pavilion serves as the focal point for summertime social actives. We also have a well-maintained sailboat  available for members to use. Our club also has a beautiful, well maintained sandy beach along the lakefront for members to enjoy – a rarity for other clubs along the lake.

At our club, we value safety, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. We believe that sailing is not just a sport, but a way of life, and we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive community for all who share our love of the water.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or just starting out, we invite you to come and join us on the water and experience the thrill of sailing on Lake Ontario.

Welcome to the LOCCA Website!

Please click on the ‘LOCCA Reciprocal Repository’ above and click on the ‘Club Name’ to see any updates that they have provided regarding their policies and procedures.

We are pleased to present to you a website that continues to evolve to support the needs of Fleet Captains, Yacht Clubs, Commodores and the boaters / sailors of Lake Ontario.  One of the innovations that we introduced in 2016 was the electronic reciprocal page that captures the reciprocal privileges of LOCCA (Lake Ontario Club Cruising Association) member Yacht Clubs.  This innovation eliminated the need for clubs to send and receive reciprocal letters by mail, compile these and ensure that they are available to club members for consultation.  The reciprocal page also allows Yacht Clubs to convert the page to a PDF for use by bosons when greeting visiting boaters. This spring, the reciprocal privileges page will be available to all Yacht Clubs (YCs) on Lake Ontario and Western St-Lawrence Seaway as long as they are members in good standing of LOCCA and Ontario Sailing or a US Regional Sailing Association.

2017 was a terrible year for boaters due to extremely high water levels; because of these water levels, many clubs were closed to visitors. In order to support Yacht Clubs, Boaters / Sailors and Fleet Captains, LOCCA created a dedicated web page that allowed Yacht Clubs to post whether they were open or closed to visiting boats.  This helped boaters and fleet captains in planning their navigation on the lake and also planning club cruises.  We did the same in 2019 and will continue to do so in the future if needed.

Enjoy the site and give us feedback to improve the look and feel of the site.

yacht clubs on lake ontario

The association was formed in the 1920’s as an opportunity for sailboat racing on the eastern end of the lake. In those days, most regattas were staged at the Western end of the lake making participation difficult for eastern clubs because of the sailing distance and time associated with traveling to the regattas. Smaller clubs on the east end decided to create the EYC regatta which is held annually at one of the member clubs. The regatta moves from club to club and usually is in Canadian waters one year and moves back to the United States the next year.

The format for the regatta is three days of racing. Thursday is a long distance race of approximately thirty to thirty-five nautical miles. On Friday and Saturday course races or “around the buoys racing” are held. Trophies dating back to the 1920’s are presented in each division for both the long distance race and course racing as well as Overall trophies for the distance race, Course racing and combined events. The regatta features PHRF – Lake Ontario Handicapped racing, One- Design Divisions and White Sails division.

Visitors Guide

Interested in visiting MBYC?

Macassa Bay Yacht Club is a member of Lake Ontario Cruising Club Association (LOCCA) and offers members from other clubs two free nights with additional nights at $25.00 per night permitting availability of slips. Visitor slips are limited to the number of our members away cruising. It is recommended that you send us an email in advance of your visit to  [email protected] . If you happen to find yourself near Macassa without a reservation just come on by, we can most likely accommodate you. Deep-water slips (6+ foot draft) are at a great premium so visitors with larger boats should confirm space before heading our way. As you near MBYC, please try to contact our clubhouse at (905) 529-9205 or on VHF channel 68 – although do not be discouraged if no one answers as our clubhouse may be closed, just speak to a member or officer of the day when you arrive. Guests intending to make use of reciprocals should fly their Club Burgee and will be required to produce a current membership card.

Please note that only Regular (full) members of MBYC (blue/white card holders) can take part in this program with reciprocating clubs with whom we are affiliated. Social or associate members of MBYC are not eligible for reciprocal benefits. All reciprocating clubs from previous years are listed below and will remain on the list until withdrawn by that Club in writing or by email. Below is a list of reciprocal clubs. Reciprocal policy information is updated on an ongoing basis as changes occur.
