Sailing ships & tall ship model kits.
A sailing ship is a seagoing craft that is propelled by the wind via the use of sails that are fixed on masts. In Ancient Egypt and the Mediterranean, river and coastal waterways were navigated by early sailing ships.
During the Age of Discovery (15th to 17th century), European sailing ships with primarily square rigs became common as they travelled across oceans between countries and throughout the globe. Although merchant ships made up the majority of sailing vessels, the Age of Sail also witnessed the growth of sizable fleets of heavily armed warships.
Most wooden ship model kits that are stocked by Modelers Central are from the golden age of sailing ships & tall ships. Brands such as Amati, Corel, Vanguard Models & Occre use quality materials and accessories to provide the best experience and the best calibre of details and structure for all sailing & tall ship model kits.
Some of the most popular wooden model ship kits from our Sailing Ship & Tall Ship range are the Clipper Cutter Sark, Endeavour & HMS Victory.

*** Beginning Ship Modelers ***
Welcome to the World of Ship Modeling!
Ship modeling is a very rewarding hobby, but it can be extremely challenging. So Ages of Sail has put together a selection of model ship kits and wooden ship kits, books and accessories that are ideal for the beginning ship modeler. All of the kits here feature wooden hulls.
Some model ship kits and wooden ship kits include pre-carved hulls that require only painting to finish. For the more adventurous, we have also listed several wooden ship kits that have plank-on-bulkhead style hulls. These kits begin with a wooden framework onto which you lay individual planks, much like real wooden ships.
Beginner model ship kits and wooden ship kits, generally feature simpler rigging and are an ideal stepping stone towards building more complex square riggers and ships of the line.
Also listed here are several books that will serve you for years as guides to your ship model construction projects.
To make ordering easier, we've also created several combination sets that include much of what you need to get started.
We also highly recommend purchasing a subscription to the Ship Modeling for Dummies website. This site, put together by an accomplished ship modeler, contains an enormous amount of information that will help you whether you're just starting out or have been building for years.
Feel free to email or call us if you have questions about our selection. We're happy to help!

From the cockpit, another companionway leads just a few steps aft into a separate private cabin. The cabin is huge and oriented across the stern. The suite includes a private head with a shower and custom cabinetry.
This dual cabin configuration provides sleeping accommodations for six and comfortable dining for four. The settees provide great space to lean back, put your feet up and read or relax The hatches and ports offer good lighting and ventilation and custom-built lockers offer lots of storage.

May 25, 1941 The Riddle of Moscow's Trials By HAROLD STRAUSS DARKNESS AT NOON By Arthur Koestler. Translated from the German by Daphne Hardy. ere, in a splendid novel, is an effective explanation of the riddle of the Moscow treason trials. It is the sort of novel that transcends ordinary limitations, and that may be read as a primary discourse in political philosophy. But this observation should frighten no one from the book, for it is written with such dramatic power, with such warmth of feeling, and with such persuasive simplicity that it is as absorbing as melodrama. It is a far cry from the bleak topical commentaries that sometimes pass as novels. It does not dwell on the merely circumstantial aspect of the trials; it bares no secrets; it seeks no escape in mystical generalizations about oriental psychology. The trials were peculiarly Russian in their garish externals. But at their core they were a clash between programmatic absolutism and humanitarian democracy. The accusers were men who were absolutely convinced of the rightness of their program and prepared to ride roughshod over all opposition. They sacrificed people for the sake of a job to be done, while the accused sought to limit the efficient prosecution of the program by a continuous reference to the satisfaction of the people. One comes to the book feeling that the trials were a unique and inexplicable phenomenon; one leaves it feeling that such things can recur (and have recurred) wherever men seek by force to modify the society in which they live. The central figure, Rubashov, is a composite of all the old Bolsheviks liquidated by Stalin. The novel opens in 1938 with his arrest, an arrest he has long been expecting. He has committed none of the crimes to which he will later confess. By our luxurious standards, he is innocent. But in his own mind he knows that he is guilty. Why? Because his are still the standards of a man who has dedicated himself unswervingly for forty years to the program of the revolution, to the struggle for its abstractly conceived ends by any necessary means, howsoever horrible. When such a man allows doubt to creep into his mind, when he questions whether the revolution might not after all cost too much in human suffering, he knows he is guilty. He understands that such humanitarian heresy must be punished by death. With great brilliance Koestler follows the course of Rubashov's thought down to the ultimate, immensely moving admission: "I no longer believe in my own infallibility. That is why I am lost." The men who made the revolution, having conceived its ends abstractly, had to cut themselves off entirely from the standards of traditional morality, and rely solely on faith in their own reasoning. From this arrogant faith derives that absolute dedication which makes men fanatics. They cast themselves on the lap of history and ask only for pragmatic sanctions. For such men doubt is catastrophe. We live with Rubashov for several weeks in his cell and in his mind. We come to know his gestures, his warders, his unseen neighbors with whom he communicates by tapping, and, above all, his gradual and ever more luminous apprehension of the humanitarian considerations that lie at the root of his opposition to Stalin. Although this is a prison novel, it does not dwell unduly on oppressive details. Rubashov was not barbarously handled. The real, the truly moving dramatic emphasis, once his guilt has been established within the Soviet frame of reference, is on the great decision whether to confess at a public trial or die in silence. The issue is in the hands of two investigating magistrates, Ivanov and Gletkin. They want Rubashov's agreement to a public confession because his is one of the great names of the Revolution, and his unexplained liquidation would have a demoralizing effect upon the people. Ivanov himself is an old Bolshevik who can grasp Rubashov's thought processes. He argues with Gletkin, who is younger and who wants to use brutally direct methods: "When Rubashov capitulates it won't be out of cowardice, but by logic. It's no use trying the hard method with him. He is made out of a certain material which becomes the tougher the more you hammer on it." Ivanov conducts the first two hearings. By inexorable logic he brings to light matters of which Rubashov himself is unaware. He shows Rubashov that the beginning of his disaffection was his return from Germany after two years of imprisonment by the Nazis. Rubashov had asked for a new mission abroad immediately, although he was entitled to an important job at home. "You did not feel at ease here, presumably? During your absence certain changes had taken place which you evidently did not appreciate." Once Rubashov admits that he had not liked the liquidation of his old comrades, the trap closes around him. For, in the Russian way of thinking, overt opposition must follow from inner disaffection. The Old Bolsheviks, by iron will, had forced their bodies to follow the logical pathways made by their minds. Silence, non-doing, withdrawal were not within the scope of possibilities. This provides the basis for an adverse interpretation of every minor gesture- tea with a diplomat (treason), a talk with Stalin's caterer (poison plot), production difficulties when he headed the aluminum trust (sabotage). Ivanov plays a magnificent game with Rubashov. He tries to recall him to his former acceptance of party discipline; he tries to persuade him to agree freely that he has erred. Actually he succeeds. But he is thought to have treated Rubashov too sympathetically, and he himself is shot. The last hearing, after Rubashov has already agreed to confess, is in Gletkin's hands. It is a prolonged agony of subtle torture. Its point is to implement the confession with specific crimes. It is difficult to suggest the protracted excitement of this intellectual duel; suffice it to say that "an unspoken agreement had come into existence between them: if Gletkin could prove that the root of the charge was right- even when this root was only of a logical, abstract nature- he had a free hand to insert the missing details." But while outwardly Gletkin wins the duel, inwardly great changes are occurring in Rubashov. He becomes once more a human being, a man of feeling, of subjective sensibilities. While with his mind he is assenting to Gletkin, in his heart he is acknowledging that perhaps might ought not to follow the logical consequences of his thought to the end- "perhaps reason alone was a defective compass, which led one on such a winding, twisting course that the goal finally disappeared in the mist." The magic effect of "Darkness at Noon" is its magnificent tragic irony. For although in a deeply moving final sequence Rubashov makes a public confession and is shot, it is he who is the real victor over his oppressors. He has learned that the word must be made flesh. MoSCoW Matrix Template
Use the MoSCow Method to efficiently place deliverables in a matrix to understand their importance to your team’s projects.
Trusted by 65M+ users and leading companies
About the MoSCoW Matrix Template
When you’re working on a project with a lot of deliverables, it can be difficult to track priorities. And as deadlines approach, sometimes priorities can shift, further complicating your workflow. How can you keep track of evolving priorities and still focus on a complex project?
What is the MoSCoW method?
The MoSCoW method is a powerful technique for tracking priorities, which are categorized and placed in a matrix model. Project managers, product developers, and business analysts use the matrix to align their teams when working through a set of project deliverables. Teams collaborate with stakeholders to analyze and rank the importance of deliverables with MoSCoW, making it easier to stay on track.
MoSCoW is an acronym for Must Have, Should Have, Could Have, and Won’t Have. These four priority categories make up the four segments in the matrix. “Must Have” items are necessary for delivery; “Should Have” items are important but not necessary; “Could Have” items are nice to have (they are not priorities, but your team can work on them if time and resources permit); and “Won’t Have” items do not fit into the scope of the current project. To use MoSCoW, you create four category segments showing your current priorities and their status (Complete, In Progress, or Not Yet Started).
When to use the MoSCoW method
The MoSCoW method is useful whenever you need to present business needs to an audience, assess priorities, and collaborate on impending deliverables with a group of stakeholders. By drawing and updating the matrix, you can get a snapshot of your priorities and their impact at each stage of a project. MoSCoW allows everyone on your team to easily grasp upcoming tasks and their impact on your timeline.
Create your own MoSCoW matrix
Making your own MoSCoW matrix is easy. Miro comes with the perfect canvas to create and share it. Get started by selecting the MoSCoW matrix template, then take the following steps to make one of your own.
Fill in your must-haves. The MoSCoW matrix is divided into four categories. The first is Must Haves, the items that are necessary for completion of your project. If you’re unsure whether a task is a Must-have, ask yourself the following questions: If you do not complete this task, will your product or service work as intended? Can you still deliver the product without this item? Does this task allow you to fulfill all legal requirements for your project? Will your product or service be safe without it? Will your customer suffer consequences if you fail to complete this task?
Fill in your should-haves. Next, move on to the items that are not necessary to complete your project but are still important for success. Remember, the items in this category are not vital , but you should try and incorporate them into your timeline anyway. If you’re unsure, ask yourself: Although it might be painful not to complete this task, could you still ship the product without it? Can you use a workaround to avoid this task?
Fill in your could-haves. Many teams colloquially refer to these items as “nice-to-haves.” While they might make the service run more smoothly or make your product look better, these tasks are not important. If you have the time or resources to complete them at the end, then you can do so. If not, you can plan to do them later. To fill out this part of the matrix, ask yourself the following questions: What are the benefits of these tasks? Do they outweigh the costs? How will these tasks impact our timeline? Can we still complete the project on time and within budget if we include these tasks?
Fill out your won’t-haves. These items are outside the scope of your current project. Maybe you don’t have the budget to complete them, or maybe they don’t fit into your timeline. If you’re not quite sure whether something is a Won’t Have, ask yourself: How does this item impact our budget? Does our team have the bandwidth to complete this task? Will this item have a tangible impact on our customers? No one likes to admit that they can’t complete something, but don’t think of Won’t Haves as failures; they’re projects for another day.
How do you use the MoSCow template?
The MoSCoW acronym (excluding the o's) is carved with the first letters of the priority categories it works with. These are Must-haves, Should-haves, Could-haves and Won't-haves. And that's how you can define which task falls into which category.
What are the benefits of using the MoSCow method?
The key benefits of the MoSCoW technique are that it's quick and easy to use. The technique is good for highlighting the priorities of projects that are in progress and for organizing efficient time management.
Get started with this template right now.
Milestone Chart Template
Works best for:.
Project Management, Strategic Planning, Project Planning
When your team is collaborating on a large project, keeping track of the many tasks and multiple timelines can be a challenge. That’s why you need a milestone chart. These visual representations of important project events will make it simple for your team to stay on schedule and reach goals on time. And it’s so easy to get started — just determine the major milestones, use our template to create a milestone chart, and define the key dates and deliverables each milestone will require.
Jobs to be Done template
Ideation, Design Thinking, Brainstorming
It’s all about a job done right — customers “hire” a product or service to do a “job,” and if it's not done right, the customer will find someone to do it better. Built on that simple premise, the Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) framework helps entrepreneurs, start-ups, and business managers define who their customer is and see unmet needs in the market. A standard job story lets you see things from your customers’ perspective by telling their story with a “When I…I Want To…So That I …” story structure.
FMEA Analysis Template
Agile Methodology, Strategic Planning, Software Development
When you’re building a business or running a team, risk comes with the territory. You can’t eliminate it. But you CAN identify it and mitigate it, to up your odds of success. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a powerful tool designed to help you manage risk and potential problems by spotting them within a process, product, or system. And you’ll spot them earlier in your process—to let you sidestep costly changes that arise late in the game or, worse, after they’ve impacted your customers and their experience.
Scenario Mapping Template
Desk Research, Mapping, Product Management
Scenario mapping is the process of outlining all the steps a user will take to complete a task. The scenario mapping template helps you create a visual guide to what different personas are doing, thinking, and feeling in different situations. Use scenario mapping to outline an intended or ideal scenario (what should happen) as well as what currently happens. If you’re trying to outline the ideal scenario, user mapping should take place very early on in a project and can help inform user stories and the product backlog. If you’re just trying to get a better sense of what currently happens, you can do user mapping when conducting user interviews or observation.
RACI Matrix Template
Leadership, Decision Making, Org Charts
The RACI Matrix is an essential management tool that helps teams keep track of roles and responsibilities and can avoid confusion during projects. The acronym RACI stands for Responsible (the person who does the work to achieve the task and is responsible for getting the work done or decision made); Accountable (the person who is accountable for the correct and thorough completion of the task); Consulted (the people who provide information for the project and with whom there is two-way communication); Informed (the people who are kept informed of progress and with whom there is one-way communication).
Kaizen Report Template
Agile Methodology, Operations, Documentation
What makes a great company great? They know that greatness needs to be fostered and maintained — meaning they never stop working to improve. If you’re one of those companies (or aspire to be), a kaizen report is an ideal tool. It creates a simple visual guide to continuous improvement activities on a team, departmental, and organizational level. Using a kaizen report approach, every employee in an organization audits their own processes and understands what they might have overlooked, making this a powerful tool for increasing accountability at all levels.

He is made out of a certain material which becomes the tougher the ...
