Yachts with Helipad

Charter yachts are known for offer the best in first-class travel. Wake up each morning in your own private stateroom, and take in the sunrise over the Mediterranean, Caribbean or Adriatic, while a member of the crew brings you a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Doesn’t get better than that, right? Not to mention, superyachts are laden with amenities, from water toys, to immaculate interiors, and sun-soaked decks, perfect for relaxing. Yet, there’s one feature that’s available on only a select group of charter yachts: Helicopter pads .

A yacht with a helicopter deck opens up a world of travel possibilities. Arrive on your yacht at sea, take a stunning helicopter tour of a nearby wildlife refuge or glacier, or skip the tender on your way to the airport – those are all possibilities aboard a yacht with a helipad.

Super Yachts with Helicopter Pads

Technically, superyachts are fully crewed boats that measure 24 meters or longer (that’s just about 75 feet). That definition doesn’t reflect the times. Superyachts have gotten larger and more opulent than ever, with designers pushing the bounds of what’s possible.

Naturally, yachts with helicopter decks tend to be larger – north of 200 feet. These larger-than-life yachts are some of the most exclusive charter superyachts with helipad access:

The beautiful Solandge is one of the most unique yachts on the market today. Her interior, for example, the work of Rodriguez Interiors and Dolker & Voges, features countless design surprises. The main salon is a stunner. It’s decked out with amethyst walls, gold leaf ceilings, a Bechstein piano and Schonbeck chandeliers with hanging amethyst rose quartz crystals. Yet, the centerpiece is an art glass sculpture, “The Tree of Life,” that stretches 50 feet high and is bedazzled by 1,000+ points of light.

Outside, Solandge shows her sheer size. She boasts a sexy beach club, a gold and white bar, a spa pool and a dance floor, among other opulent luxuries. Of course, you’ll find the helipad outdoors, too, as well as a sprawling sun deck and lounge. The yacht is maintained by a crew of 29 and can accommodate 12 guests in eight large cabins.

Originally built by Icon in 1974, Legend underwent its most recent refit in 2016. The ship isn’t a traditional motor yacht. Rather, she’s a fully certified Class 1 ice-breaking ship, and more recently has been turned into a luxury explorer yacht.

Legend is definitely one-of-a-kind. Inside and out, she offers the best in luxury yachting. The ship accommodates up to 26 guests – in total luxury – in her 13 staterooms. There’s a master suite, two VIP suites, as well as 10 different staterooms.

The yacht is built for exploration. In addition to her commercial helipad, Legend features her very own submarine. Plus, adding to the undeniable allure is a gym, Balinese spa and sauna, a Jacuzzi, a movie theater, and a swimming pool. Legend is maintenance by a crew of 19, as well as a 10-member expedition crew, including doctors, ice pilots, expedition leaders and naturalists.

NAIA was built by Freire Shipyard in 2011, and she offers an abundance of space for relaxing and entertaining. Spread across four decks, the yacht has six guest suites and a master suite, the latter of which takes up the entire “penthouse” level and includes a private deck. A central spiral staircase connects all of the decks, and the master suite is accessible through an elevator that goes as low as the sundeck.

As for the common areas, NAIA has plenty of areas for guests to choose from, including a cinema room. The main saloon is both inviting and intimate, with ultra-comfortable plush couches and a chic contemporary décor. A dining table can seat up to eight people, and is surrounded by a smaller sitting area, a small bar and plenty of artwork. Outside, charter guests onboard will find casual seating and bar areas, al fresco dining, another bar, a Jacuzzi, and plenty of places to sunbathe.

Built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2016, Cloudbreak is a truly world-class expedition yacht. The exterior design of Cloudbreak is the work of Espen Oeino, and the Scandinavian-inspired interior design was completed by Paris-based Christian Liaigre. After undergoing four years of development, this custom-built mega yacht is finally on the market, and it offers a world of adventure.

In addition to her helipad, the yacht has a fully stocked garage of water toys, including scuba equipment, jet skis, and numerous kayaks, paddle boards and kite surfing rigs. Inside, though, the yacht is a show stopper. With accommodations for up to 12 guests, as well as amenities like a spa with sauna, swimming pool and beach club, Cloudbreak is designed for relaxing excursions.

Enigma XK was first built by Richards Shipbuilders in 1987, and last refit in 2013. Previously named Norna, this yacht is the work of Vitruvius and Philippe Briand, who completed its interior and exterior design, respectively.

The sleek interior is marked by cream and white tones, light woods, lit flooring, and a glamorous aesthetic. There is a full-scale wellness and fitness center onsite, and this boat was named “Best Yacht Conversion” winner of The World Superyachts Award in 2014. Perfect for adventuring through ice-filled waters, Enigma XK offers plenty of toys for exploring, including a 9-meter Limo tender, an R.I.B. tender, a rescue tender, two Zodiac tenders, multiple wave runners, SCUBA diving and snorkeling equipment, a dive compressor, water skis, a wake board, tow toys, inflatable pontoons and more.

SuRi was built by Halter Marine/Yacht Escort Ships International in 1978, and later refit in 2016. An ideal yacht for travel with family and friends, SuRi is the brainchild of its owner. Its décor is both comfortable and contemporary, with expansive cabins and elegant living areas. Plus, the yacht boasts a fitness center, a massage room, and even a “Windows to the Sea” section of the yacht, where travelers can get a glimpse of all of the colorful fish swimming around them.

Outside, guests can dine al fresco on the sun deck, relax in the Jacuzzi, sunbathe, or enjoy a sunset cocktail in front of a backdrop of amazing views. If you’re a more adventurous charter guest, the water toys onboard SuRi won’t disappoint. In addition to the helipad, there are bikes, snorkel equipment, surfboards, kayaks, fishing gear, diving equipment and even a 35-foot Stan-Craft mahogany speedster. On SuRi, the choices are endless.

Built in 2018 by Golden Yachts, O’Ptasia is a stunning superyacht that features a wide array of world-class amenities. The yacht features a high-end contemporary aesthetic inside, including sleek and spacious salons and expertly appointed guest staterooms. She accommodates up to 12 in 11 rooms, including a master suite, VIP stateroom, as well as a variety of double and twin cabins.

Her exterior is a masterpiece of nautical engineering. Featuring expansive decks, including a sizable beach club and breezy sun deck, the yacht is a floating five-star hotel. You’ll find all of the amenities onboard: A spa, an outdoor bar, sun deck Jacuzzi and much more.

The ice-classed explorer yacht Planet Nine was built in 2018 by Italian shipyard Admiral Yachts. Built for explorations in the far corners of the world, no expense was spared on her construction. Inside, the yacht is the epitome of opulence.

Designed by London-based Milnaric, Henry and Zervudachi (MHZ), the superyacht has a full range of luxury amenities: Modern staterooms, including a master suite that takes an entire deck, a panoramic observation deck, and an immaculate dining area.

Yet, the ship is certainly designed for exploration. Outside, the yacht’s most recognizable feature is the helipad, which features a garage just below. Tommy is a luxury motor yacht built by Benetti in 1995. It underwent its last refit in 2014 and boasts an interior and exterior design by Terence Disdale and Stefano Natucci, respectively. This yacht is large enough to host a cocktail party for up to 100 guests.

The interior of Tommy is both elegant and classic, with cream and burnt orange tones, and light wood cabinets and paneling throughout. True North offers the ultimate oasis of luxury for your Australia or Southeast Asian expedition. The yacht, which was built in 2005, is fully equipped for explorations. She features six tenders, as well as her own Eurocopter EC 130 helicopter.

On-board, the experience is incredible. True North features a spacious layout, with accommodations for up to 36 guests. The yacht includes 18 rooms, including 10 double cabins and 8 twins, and she’s designed for fun exploring the Great Barrier Reef. You’ll find a variety of water toys and equipment including: Dive compression, dive equipment, a jet ski, and plenty of fishing gear.

Built in 2006, Tango is a luxury superyacht that charters primarily in Australia. With accommodations for up to 8 guests, Tango offers complete comfort on the open seas. The yacht features a deck Jacuzzi, as well as beautiful sun deck.

Standout superyacht helicopter decks

Once the luxury of a select few, the not-so-humble helipad is having a bit of a moment. With the explosion of interest in the explorer yacht market, a touch-and-go landing pad is becoming more of a necessity than the extravagance it once was. Sure, a tender will get you from shore to superyacht in good time, but there's nothing that quite compares to touching down on the bow. We take a closer look at some of the best helidecks afloat...

Bold carries a certified helideck with a D value of 13 making it suitable for a craft such as the 3.2-tonne, twin-engine, eight-seat AgustaWestland AW109S Grand. Equipped with proper lighting and fire-safety gear, it is far from any structure that can create turbulence and features opening bulwarks to expand the deck width. While there is plenty of room to stow the craft on deck, the ocean environment is notoriously detrimental to delicate electronics, and big waves or wind can tip even a large heli over. So Bold transports its helicopter over long passages in a garage with a ceiling that adjusts in height to accommodate the craft with its rotors removed.

A defining feature of Geco's exterior design is the touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck. The minimalist platform complements the modern and slender profile of the 55 metre superyacht, and when not hosting a chopper, this round platform is instead transformed into a Moroccan-style cocktail area best enjoyed at sunset. After dark, the helipad also works as the perfect spot for stargazing.

Designed in a military-inspired style by Espen Øino , the helideck area on 71 metre Lürssen Skat was the first to be penned by the designer for a superyacht. Located on the aft deck, the helipad has a dual purpose as a landing site for choppers and also providing shade to the deck space below.

Lürssen superyacht Ace features a foredeck helipad marked that bucks tradition by replacing the usual "H" sign with a giant "A" to represent her name. But this distinctive helideck is not actually the main landing site for arrivals from the air. Instead, landings would usually take place on support vessel Garçon , leaving the forward end of Ace, which features a swimming pool and sunbeds free for fun. 

OceanXplorer

Once an oil survey vessel, the 87 metre OceanXplorer completed a refit by Damen in 2020 that turned her into the ultimate expedition yacht complete with high-tech toys, scientific research labs and Hollywood-standard editing facilities. This includes the addition of new helipad at the bow, which has been shifted three frames (1.8 metres) further forward, in order to create enough room for a proper hangar behind it which has been finished with a futuristic top-hinged door.

Ragnar is one of the coolest conversion projects to splash in recent years. Having started life as an icebreaking tug, even the harshest environments are a walk in the park for this Viking-inspired explorer. Unsurprisingly, Ragnar is jam-packed with some serious tools for exploring ashore, including an Airbus EC145 which sits atop a certified helideck, perfect for whisking thrill-seeking guests off for an afternoon of heli-skiing.

Hodor's 220 square metre helideck is fully certified and a CAP 437-compliant helipad sits aft of the 66-metre catamaran's upper deck. The Incat Crowther shadow cat features an Airbus H145 helicopter in matching stealth-grey among its plethora of superyacht toys.

Octopus is perhaps one of the best known explorers on the water. The 126 metre Lürssen hit the water in 2003, commissioned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and was designed for far-flung global adventures. She has two helipads on board, one fore and one aft, with a hangar that can store two aircraft. Since her delivery, Octopus has explored the coast of Antarctica, traversed the Northwest Passage and discovered the wrecks of long-lost WW2 battleships off the Philippines.

The foredeck on the 95.2 metre Lürssen superyacht Kismet is marked for half-court basketball, but it can also double up as a touch-and-go helipad. Her sport-loving owner Shahid Khan has sports interests on both sides of the Atlantic, owning both the Jacksonville Jaguars basketball team and Fulham FC.

Planet Nine

To prepare her for adventures in the Antarctic, Planet Nine's helipad was designed with a lifting platform that allows the aircraft to be stowed in the hangar beneath when not in use. This also enables the 73 metre explorer yacht to carry two helicopters at once, allowing guests to arrive on board by chopper while the owner's own helicopter is stowed safely away.

Space Requirements:

Yacht Design and Functionality:

• Bow Helipad: Smaller yachts (40-45 meters) might be able to dedicate the bow area for a helipad, although it can limit usable deck space.

In Conclusion:

While 40 meters is a general starting point, the suitability of a helipad depends on the specific yacht design, desired helicopter size, and weight limitations. Larger superyachts offer more flexibility and optimal functionality for helipad use.

The key difference between a touch and go helipad and a certified helipad lies in their purpose, regulations, and level of safety involved. Here's a breakdown:

Touch and Go Helipad:

• Purpose: Primarily used for non-commercial operations, such as private yacht use. 
• Regulations: No specific regulations or certifications govern their design, construction, or operation. 
• Safety: Generally considered less safe due to the lack of regulatory oversight. 
• Landing Procedure: Helicopters typically land, briefly touch down to disembark or embark passengers or cargo, and take off immediately. 
• Location: Often found on smaller yachts (around 40 meters or more) where space constraints might limit options for a full-fledged helipad. 

Certified Helipad:

• Purpose: Designed for commercial helicopter operations, including yacht charters, emergency medical services, or private use with a dedicated pilot and support crew. 
• Regulations: Must comply with stringent regulations set by maritime and aviation authorities (e.g., International Maritime Organization (IMO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)). These regulations cover aspects like helipad size, weight capacity, safety equipment, pilot qualifications, and maintenance procedures. 
• Safety: Offers a higher level of safety due to mandatory adherence to regulations and inspections. 
• Landing Procedure: Helicopters can land, refuel, potentially undergo minor maintenance, and take off again. 
• Location: Typically found on larger yachts (above 60 meters) with dedicated space for a helipad that meets regulatory requirements. 

In essence, a touch and go helipad offers a basic landing spot, while a certified helipad provides a safe and regulated platform for various helicopter operations. The choice between the two depends on your specific needs and intended use.

Superyacht Helipads on Charter: What You Need to Know

A helipad is the ultimate luxury convenience for anyone in a hurry to start their dream yacht charter vacation, yet although it seems these days every self-respecting superyacht boasts a helipad - or two - few are actually commercially certified for helicopter landings. So, the question remains: is a non-certified helipad just a waste of space on a yacht charter?

To clear things up, we have compiled our guide on everything you need to know about superyacht helipads, as well as some of the best charter yachts already equipped with fully-certified helicopter platforms for those wishing to kick off their luxury yacht charter in style.

A commercially-certified helipad is a must

Can you use a non-certified helipad on a yacht charter, private helipads, ‘touch and go’ helipad, charter guest benefits, 6 stand-out superyachts with a fully-certified helipad, 1. la datcha, 2. cloudbreak, 3. madsummer, 5. flying fox, interested in booking a luxury yacht charter.

For this classification, a superyacht helipad must be constructed and operated in line with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) Large Commercial Yacht Code (LY3) Annex 6, which is basically the technical standards for helicopter landing areas, or helipads. 

This code sets out the basic rules governing the design, construction and operation of a helipad, which includes important factors such as a yacht’s load bearing capacity, obstacle clearance, consideration of airflow, safe access points, lighting, permanent deck markings and relevant crew training on helicopter operations. 

The responsibility for the survey and certification process for a helipad intended for commercial use is shared between the yacht’s registered flag state, the classification society and an aviation inspection body, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO ). 

All in all, it doesn’t leave much wiggle room for winging it.  

In a nutshell, no. 

Helicopters are not permitted to touch down on a non-certified helipad onboard a yacht that is being used commercially, i.e. for charter, unless for a medical emergency such as the evacuation of sick or injured passengers.

A helipad or helideck is considered a commercial operation if used to either;

• Receive commercial charter helicopters, or
• Transport charter guests 

Therefore, even a yacht being used privately by its owner cannot receive a commercial charter helicopter if the helideck is not certified.

The ICAO have also weighed in on this point, stipulating that “all commercial air transport helicopters should land on certified helipads which must be built according to certain standards”. 

Private helipads onboard a yacht adhere to less stringent rules and therefore do not have to meet the commercial standards for certification. 

We find many owners are keen to incorporate a helideck, so long as it doesn't compromise the overall aesthetic of the yacht

That's not to say that non-certified helipads aren’t safe, as for the most part they will have been designed with the regulations in mind. However, more often a yacht’s visual appeal is advocated over the practicalities of helipad design. Chris Wood, a helidecks operations manager with Safeguard Helidecks Certification agrees: “We find many owner's are keen to incorporate a helideck, so long as it doesn't compromise the overall aethestic of the yacht."

This snazzy term has become synonymous with luxury superyachts, although it technically has no meaning. For clarity's sake, unless specified ‘touch and go’ helipads are not certified and therefore cannot be used for commercial operations i.e. yacht charters, with the exception of medical emergencies. 

This can cause some confusion, especially as these types of helipads are often highlighted as a stand-out feature when marketing a yacht for charter.

A certified helipad onboard a yacht is a major bonus for yacht charterers wishing to expedite their travel time and arrive in style. Other advantages include;

• Quick and easy access to and from the yacht 
• Avoids wasting time in heavy traffic
• Avoids lengthy tender rides to yachts out on anchor
• Provides an opportunity for guests to explore their surroundings further
• Ideal jumping off point for extreme sports such as heli skiing
• Useful for corporate charter events
• Safe and comfortable transportation option

As for non-commercial helipads, it can also be used for medical emergencies.

In conclusion, a fully operational helideck is an increasingly desirable feature onboard a charter yacht, which has led to a growing demand for helipad certification. Chris Woods at Safeguard Helidecks Certification confirms this is one of their biggest growth areas: "We are seeing huge demand from yacht owners wanting to get their private helipads commercially certified for yacht charters". 

So, although there are currently only a handful of charter yachts offering certified helipads right now, the future looks bright.

New York and its skyline were the inspiration for this yacht’s styling, from the Empire State skyscrapers on the bar stools in the sky lounge bar, lit by uplighters reminiscent of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty, to the firebird figurehead that looks as if it may have flown in from the Chrysler Building. Everything, from the door handles to the cutlery, is hand-made, each a work of art in its own right.

From the ballroom, move aft past the full-height windows, circular lounge and onto the aft deck, where a spiral staircase leads up to the upper deck and the emphasis on good times continues. Past the buffet lounge is a winter garden with guest dining in open air or climate control, as conditions dictate, then continue down the boardwalk-style sidedecks to the jacuzzi lounge.

After a night of revelry, head to the bridge deck. Take the rivetted-aluminium spiral staircase or the elevator, which runs from the tank deck, home to the Radio City-inspired cinema with popcorn maker, to the bridge deck, and you’ll find a gym overlooking the aft helipad (there is a second on the foredeck). Sweat it out in the hammam or have a massage in the beauty salon. After that, the sun deck beckons, with its 7m (23ft) oval pool with skylights filtering natural light into the lobby below. Then soak up the sun or snooze in the shade on the sunpads and sun lounges.

To get ashore, take the elevator to the lower deck lobby where one of two 10m (32.8ft) tenders is waiting to take you wherever you want to go. For using an armada of watertoys however, the place to be is the 4m (13.1ft)-deep swim platform, complete with hydraulic bathing steps.

The full-beam owner’s suite, forward on the main deck, is similarly bewitching. Accessed from the main deck or via a glass spiral staircase from the owner’s private observation lounge and office on the upper deck. The circular sweep of the windows and their wraparound views is echoed in the black circle in the carpet and the recessed lighting overhead. A spectacular his-and-hers bathrooms in contrasting marbles features a bath and a steam shower and one of the walk-in wardrobes can be concealed should her new owner wish to operate her commercially.

With a range of 6,000nm and Quantum stabilisers, this impeccably maintained 2,667GT yacht, defies limits on what is possible.

Undoubtedly, the list of the top 15 superyachts and their helicopters has to include a Feadship superyacht. The bespoke Dutch shipyard is best known for building exceptional quality superyachts . Motor yacht Lady Christine is one of those. Not only Lady Christine provides absolute comfort to her guests, but she also has enormous storage space for a rescue boat, a large tender and a small sailing boat. This section of the vessel also serves as a helipad and stores two helicopter fuel tanks.

4. Attessa IV

Upon her re-launch in 2010 Attessa IV became the largest superyacht in North America. She made it to the top 25 largest yachts in the world, and back in 2010 was at the 23rd position. Originally built by  Hayashikane Zosen Kk in 1999 and called Evergreen, she was sold to a new owner in 2007. She underwent an extensive rebuilt by Washington Yachting Group , where she was also extended by 30 feet. Attessa IV accommodates 36 guests, assisted by 21 crew members. Although Garcon is not an opulent superyacht but a fast yacht support vessel, she deserves the praise for carrying a huge luxurious helicopter, as this is what support vessels are for. If you are into yachts and luxury travelling, you probably know by now that the 155-metre mega yacht Luna is one of the largest yachts with some extraordinary features. Launched in 2010 by Trinity Yachts , luxury yacht Skyfall measure 58 metres and offers accommodation for a party of 10. Her cabin configuration consists of a master suite, 2 VIP cabins, one double and one twin. Her name comes from the James Bond famous movie series, which implies that this superyacht surely has an outstanding feature. Aboard Skyfall, the guests will have an opportunity to have delicious breakfast prepared by a private chef and continue the day by taking off in a helicopter to explore the best of Mediterranean. At 134 metres, motor yacht Serene boasts a huge beam of 18.5 metres. Can you image how much luxury living space is offered on board this beauty? Serene provides a full seven decks of exterior and interior space. With an abundance of amenities, this mega yacht stands out among other luxury yachts. 12. Madame Gu

Madame Gu is a superyacht that has it all for a luxury vacation in style. A helipad, excellent water toys and tenders, a spa pool and a night club guarantee lots of entertainment to her guests. Although Madame Gu is not available for private luxury charters, we still admire this vessel. She was built by Feadship to the design by De Voogt Naval Architects . Her interior is by Andrew Winch . She has 6 lavish cabins to accommodate 12 guests, and 18 crew cabins to sleep 36 crew members. This floating masterpiece was photographed in Port Vell in Barcelona where is always a very welcomed guest.

Back in 2004 motor yacht Tritone became the largest composite yacht built in the U.S. upon her delivery. Her capabilities include prolonged cruising distances, as well as cruising in the most distant locations. Triton was built for her owner, who is passionate about sports fishing, deep-sea scuba diving, and water games and various activities. Hence, the yacht was built with an advanced hull laminate schedule utilising carbon fibre to ensure strength and durability. 14. Vibrant Curiosity

Another outstanding superyacht built by Oceanco, Vibrant Curiosity is an 85-metre displacement vessel that turns heads at any port. She was photographers in Auckland , New Zealand with her large helicopter a few weeks ago. This giant luxury vessel can sleep 18 guests in 7 beautifully furnished cabins. A professional crew of 26 professionals take care of everything on board. Vibrant Curiosity reaches a top speed of 20 knots and is powered y a pair of MTU 16V 595 TE70 engines.

15. Pegasus VIII  (ex PEGASUS V, PRINCESS MARIANA)

At 78.60 metres, luxury motor yacht PEGASUS VIII provides a lot more than you would think. Her amazing interior layout includes a large salon with sophisticated decor, a cinema theatre, formal and casual dining spaces, as well as other great living areas. There are five lavish cabins to accommodate 12 guests. Top 10 Best Yachts with Helipads

The world’s superyachts are the most opulent, luxurious and downright impressive machines ever built. And coming high on the list of superyacht design features is a helipad. With helipad design a hot topic for today’s shipbuilders, it would be logical to assume that it’s only the biggest of the yachts that can accommodate them. In fact, the motor yacht Buckpasser was one of the first to be built with a helipad in the 1980s, and at 36.8 metres she is a long way off the largest on the seas.

A helipad  is the superyacht must-have, allowing owners and guests the chance to explore further and get to and from their yacht quicker. These air tenders are the next step from traditional tenders, providing the chance to explore remote far-flung corners of the world, or to simply travel in comfort and ease.

Helipads come in all shapes and sizes on superyachts, with everything from commercial landing pads to touch-and-go decks. Some are designed to blend subtly into the overall aesthetic, either on the aft or foredecks, while others are being designed as a stand-out feature.

Here we take a look at the top10 most impressive yachts with helipads ;

Built by Fincantieri in 2011, Serene makes the top 10 list because she boasts not one but two helipads, one of which converts into a swimming pool when not in use. She was also designed with a helicopter hangar, meaning her helicopters can be stored safely away when the ship is underway as well as allowing for more deck space. Did you know, it is safer to land a helicopter on the aft helipad when the yacht is moving? The reason for this is that being underway gives the yacht more stability. 

When Oceanco rolled out 81 metre Alfa Nero in 2007 jaws around the world dropped. At the heart of her exterior design was a huge infinity pool with a glass aft end for uninterrupted views of the sea. Blink, however, and the pool disappears. The floor of the pool can be raised to create a shallow children’s pool, or brought fully up to create a dancefloor or, yes you guessed it, a helicopter landing pad. In keeping with the yacht’s style and elegance, even the helipad is adorned with a teak H.

Almost all of the world’s largest superyachts have helipads on them and Eclipse, standing as one of the largest on the planet at 162 metre is no exception. In fact, this Goliath of yachts – which is owned by Roman Abramovich - has space to accommodate not one, but three helicopters as well as a hangar below the foredeck which acts as a specially designed heli-garage. Eclipse does everything on a grand scale. Even her swimming pool was, at the time of launch, the largest ever built on a superyacht at 16 metres in length.

Planet Nine

There is a new breed of explorer superyacht hitting the seas, and for anyone setting off to explore the most remote parts of the world a helicopter is a must. The 73-metre Planet Nine was built to cruise the planet’s most challenging corners, including expeditions in the Antarctic. As such, she was designed to accommodate two helicopters. Thanks to the use of a huge lift, one chopper can be stowed beneath the helipad in a hangar to make room for a second to land. Because of her long-range explorer capabilities, Planet Nine is also equipped with helicopter refuelling equipment.  

If we’re talking about superyachts geared for adventure then the beautiful 72-metre Cloudbreak designed by Espen Øino must make the list. Built-in 2016 for her adventurous owner, she has everything an adrenaline junkie could ever want, including a helipad. Her owner uses the helicopter to enjoy a spot of heli-skiing on inaccessible mountains blanketed in virgin snow. In fact, there’s even a cinema lounge next to the helideck – perfect for watching helmet footage of the day’s exploits.

Lady Christine

On some yachts, the helipad is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible, blending into the overall aesthetic. Lady Christine isn’t one of those yachts. The owner of this 68 metre Feadship was a helicopter pilot himself and so the design very much focused around the helipad, with guests being able to step from the doors of the chopper and into an enclosed sundeck – the aptly named skylounge – in a few paces. The skylonge also doubles as a shelter from winds for greater ease of take-off and landing, showing just how much thought has gone into this key feature of the yacht.  

Stella Maris

Also on the list is 72 metre Stella Maris, also by esteemed designer Espen Øino. Like the Lady Christine, Stella Maris’ helipad has been built as a focal point of the exterior design. A huge H sits in the middle of the sundeck, where loungers and adjacent twin swimming pools provide a central space for socialising and entertaining. When it’s time to jet off however, the sunbeds are rolled away and the deck is the perfect helipad. It’s a bold design which is moving away from attempting to hide the helicopter deck but instead creates a centrepiece with a dual purpose.

Another impressive bit of helipad design is seen on the 66 metre Feadship Vanish. Its main helicopter landing area is on the foredeck, however, this yacht unusually has two helipads. A second deck on the aft of the ship is used to store the helicopter when the boat is underway. It means the helicopter has to be moved after passengers have disembarked on the foredeck but provides a secure space for longer passages. The foredeck acts as a landing area for daily operations and can be kept there for very short voyages or on anchor.

Built-in 2015 by Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven , the 107 metre Andromeda – which was named Ulysses when she was first launched – is one of the world’s most astounding explorer yachts. She is designed to cruise through the ice, has an 8,500nm range, and is ready to tackle any destination on the planet in the utmost of luxury. And alongside her commercial helipad, Andromeda also has a heli-hangar on the top deck. While superyachts aren’t short on space, it makes sense to maximise the use of a helipad when there isn’t a chopper in situ. The 95-metre Lürssen superyacht Kismet doubles up as a basketball court, with markings painted on it as well as the H. The helipad on this yacht is known as a touch-and-go, meaning choppers land, its passengers disembark and then it takes off again. The helicopter can’t be stored on board, but Kismet’s sports-loving owner wouldn’t want to disrupt the basketball for too long anyway.

The steel brute from Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo spans a remarkable 200 feet and weighs a hefty 1,600 gross tons. That’s more than enough superyacht to rival the infamous Hun.

Officially the largest vessel the yard has ever produced, Attila delivers a powerful one-two punch of size and sophistication. With an exterior by Officina Italiana Design , the yacht sports elegant lines and artfully connects all five of its decks to give dual impressions of grace and flow.

A well-positioned double staircase links the aft cockpit with the beach club below to ensure that seafarers can split their time between the areas. Super yachts with helipads that allow their owners to fly anywhere and come back to their yachts.  luxury yachts offer world-class travel.  Where you can wake up each morning in a private stateroom, sipping a freshly brewed coffee, and got the chance to witness the sunrise over the Mediterranean, Caribbean or Adriatic.  Isn’t it great, right?

These yachts are loaded with state of the art amenities, water equipment, great interiors, and sun-soaked decks, ideal for unwinding. 

But there’s one feature that’s available on some charter yachts: Helicopter pads. Usually, yachts with helipads tend to be larger.  Indeed, helicopters are a convenient, time-saving, stylish, and safe means of transportation.  So to land a helicopter nearly anywhere provides comfortable transport of superyachts guests to particular destinations, without wasting time in heavy traffic.

Also, extreme sports lovers can experience helicopter water skiing.

Helipads on superyachts come in all shapes and sizes from commercial landing pads to touch-and-go decks.  Some are designed to enhance beauty, while others are being developed as a stand-out feature.

1. serene mega yacht.

In 2011 this superyacht was built by Fincantieri.  Serene makes it to number 1 because she possesses two helipads.  The first one transforms into a swimming pool when not in use.  Also, this mega yacht was designed with a helicopter hangar. 

2. Alfa Nero Super Yacht

Nuvolari & Lenard designed Alfa Nero and built by Oceanco in 2007.  While Alberto Pinto designed the interior of Alfa Nero.  It can accommodate 12 guests and up to 26 crew and has over 4,000 square feet (370 m2) of living space. 

The yacht highlights a 12-by-38-foot pool on the aft deck that can convert into a dance floor or a helipad through a hydraulic system.

3. Eclipse Mega Yacht

Blohm+Voss of Hamburg, Germany built the superyacht Eclipse.  Terence Disdale designed her exterior and interior.  A Russian businessman Roman Abramovich owns the yacht. Eclipse, competing as one of the largest on the planet at 162 meters is no exception.  This yacht features two helicopter pads, 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, numerous hot tubs, and a disco hall.  Also, it has three launch boats and a mini-submarine that submerge up to 50 meters (160 ft).  To operate this superyacht, it needs 70 crew members.

4. Planet Nine 

Planet Nine is a 73-meter superyacht and was built to cruise the world’s most challenging corners, including expeditions in the Antarctic.  It can hold two helicopters and equip with helicopter refueling facilities.

5. Cloudbreak

CLOUDBREAK- This custom-built yacht was designed for extreme exploration since the owner loves great outdoors.  It was named after the legendary surfing reef in the South Pacific and was built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2016.

It features helipad, cinema, six luxurious staterooms and can accommodate up to 12 charter guests overnight.  It also has two large terraces that offer picturesque views while an outside daybed lets guests sleep under the stars while cruising.  The owner uses the helicopter to enjoy a spot of heli-skiing on challenging mountains covered in snow.

6. Lady Christine

De Voogt Naval Architects designed the 68-meter LADY CHRISTINE with remarkable Art Deco interiors by Rodney Black Design.  This yacht was delivered in 2010 by Feadship Royal Van Lent. It features an outstanding panoramic and air-conditioned dining room, bar and lounge, ideal for casual dining.  Aft of that is a dedicated helideck warranted for touch-and-go commercial use with refueling capability and firefighting systems.

7. Stella Maris

Including in the list is 72-meter Stella Maris, designed by Espen Øino.  The helipad of Stella Maris is the focal point of the exterior design.  A visible huge H sits in the middle of the sundeck, and two swimming pools offer a convenient space for entertainment and socializing.  During the take-off, the sunbeds are rolled away, and the deck is transformed into a helipad.

This 66-meter yacht owns an impressive helipad design.  The foredeck is the primary helicopter landing area.  However, this yacht has two helipads, found on the second deck on the aft of the ship. It is used to store the helicopter when the boat is moving. 

9. Andromeda

The 107 meters Andromeda was built-in 2015 by Norwegian. When it was first launched it was named Ulysses, knows as the world’s outstanding yacht explorer. The yacht was created to cruise through the ice has an 8,500nm range, and is ready to go to any luxury expedition. Also, it features commercial helipad and a hangar. It accommodates the safe storages of the helicopter when the yacht is moving.

Kismet is  a 2014, 95.2-meter superyacht built by the Lürssen shipyard. It was designed in a luxurious style by Reymond Langton and Espen Øeino. The helipad on this yacht is remembered as a touch-and-go, it means the choppers land, and then it takes off again after disembarking its passengers.

Growing up on a farm in South Africa’s Free State, Joe was easily drawn to the yachting lifestyle. He began his yachting career as an engineer and eventually became a yacht captain in 2002. Joe’s natural navigation and mechanical skills combined with his positive attitude make him a true asset to the yachting industry. His dedication to yachting is seen in his many achievements, including obtaining his Y3 Chief Engineer license. These certifications have provided an impressive foundation for his yachting career. Today, Joe holds 20 years of captaincy under his belt. Boasting a Master Y4 3000 GT MCA Captain’s license, Joe has travelled through the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mediterranean, along with most coastal waters. Wellversed in navigating the world’s oceans, Captain Johannes is sure to provide the ultimate yachting experience. GRANT HEUNIS | Rotational Captain | South Africa Grant grew up in East London, South Africa and joined Top Five II from a well-known and successful charter yacht - M/Y Elysian. Grant began his career as a Deckhand giving him an invaluable understanding of each position onboard. He gained his MCA Master 3000 Ton License in 2012 and took over as full-time Captain of M/Y Passion. Having acted as a relief Captain for some time already, this was a smooth transition for Grant, and he has since exceeded all expectations in the role. Grant has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Bahamas, East Coast of the USA, Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean waters. Grant is a qualified PADI rescue diver and RYA Jet Ski Instructor. A keen sportsman, having competed for his provincial team in water polo, he enjoys the outdoors, surfing, keeping fit and hiking. ROB FULLER | Head Chef | England Chef Rob has been a Chef for many years & has travelled all over the world. From Paris he joined the yachting industry where his culinary knowledge has served him well. Mediterranean cuisine to Japanese cuisine is quite a diversification in the culinary world. Having worked with employers such as the Fayyad family, Danielle Steele and Giorgio Armani in their residences, villas and yachts, Chef Rob can supply high-end culinary masterpieces for the charter and guests. Chef Rob understands the diverse requirements for the client regardless of location or resources, creating menus from local ingredients is a fulfilling challenge. ROBERT SOLOMON | Chief Officer (Rotational) | South Africa Rob was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Having grown up on a lake, Rob spent all day in and around the water. He has a strong passion for all water sports and loves being outdoors. Rob joined the industry in 2003 and now has his Chief Mate 3000 qualification. He has worked on a variety of vessels over the years and has cruised the Adriatic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, east coast of Africa and east coast of the USA. He was a crew member on the first Top Five so when the new build was commissioned, he jumped at the opportunity to join the program again. His vast skillset and very friendly nature make him a great asset to the team. Rob loves anything that involves being outdoors and is an avid hiker. After summiting Kilimanjaro, he is planning to do the seven peaks culminating in Everest. The next peak on the list is Aconcagua in Argentina. LUKE DU PREEZ | Chief Officer (Rotational) | South Africa Luke grew up on the East Coast of South Africa and has a passion for fishing and diving and often combines the two to spearfish. Luke completed a degree in financial management and shortly after graduating he went and taught English in Vietnam for a year. Luke then decided to pursue a career in something that complimented his love for being at sea which led him to the yachting industry. Luke holds his Chief Mate 3000 is a master tender driver. NICO TRUETER | Second Officer | South Africa Nico was born in a small town called Riversdale in South Africa. Nico developed a real passion for sport, especially rugby from a very young age. Building on his love for rugby, he always enjoys; swimming, water sports, shooting, hiking and running. He always enjoys relaxing and taking timeout while reading a book. Nico studied at the University of Stellenbosch, where he qualified as an account. He returned to his hometown to complete his three years of articles. Once he had qualified, he realised that being tied down behind a desk and crunching numbers was not for him, so in 2018 he took to the seas, where he could be physically and mentally stimulated and has never looked back. Nico is embracing each day and learning as much as he can to build a firm foundation as he climbs the ladder to being a captain. Nico being as active as he is and enjoying a good challenge and can impressively do a handstand starting from a seated position. MATTHEW DAVEY – BOSUN Matt was born and raised in Boston Massachusetts and spent his teenage years and early 20’s growing up in Georgia. He attended Georgia State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, initially aspiring to become an attorney. After working as a paralegal for some time, he decided to pursue a life of travel and adventure and joined the yachting industry in 2014. He has journeyed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and spent time in the Mediterranean, and Bahamas, gaining a great deal of knowledge, experience, and certifications along the way. Currently, he is pursuing his Officer of the Watch Yacht License. Matt enjoys spending his free time staying in shape and embracing the great outdoors. He is an avid runner, skier, camper, and hiker. BROC MILLS | Lead Deckhand| South Africa Broc Mills grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Broc joined the industry in 2021 after selling his business which he ran during the early covid times in South Africa. This is Broc’s first boat, and he has been a part of the Top Five II team since before she was officially launched. Although growing up in-land he preferred to spend most of his time on the coast, diving, fishing and being outdoors. Broc is a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor and holds his Yacht master 200GT license. Broc enjoys freediving and surfing, along with a variety of other outdoor activities, during his free time. MILO COEN | Deckhand | American Milo grew up in Upstate NY, on the Finger Lakes. He started yachting after he graduated high school. He hasn’t looked back and is enjoying being part of the Top Five II team. He is working towards his future goal of being a Captain one day. Milo loves being in the outdoors and in his spare time he enjoys spearfishing and freediving, and his newfound love of saltwater fishing. Milo has his Able-bodied seafarer’s ticket under the USCG licensing and is working towards more advanced qualifications. NICHOLAS ADRIAENS | Deckhand / Kite Surf Instructor | South Africa Nicholas grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and has been kiteboarding and surfing for over 10 years. He competed in both at a national level. He has a genuine enthusiasm for all maritime activities including sailing and his happy to have recently joined M/Y Top Five II. Nicolas looks forward to taking you for kiteboarding and surfing lessons. JONA BRINK | Deckhand | South Africa Jona grew up on a farm in the central part of South Africa called Senekal. Where he has been spending most of his time fishing, diving doing water sports as well as improving on his carpenter skills over the years. Jona loves the great outdoors and being in nature. He joined the yachting industry shortly after finishing high School He wanted to pursue his passion to travel the world and learn about new cultures which is why he joined yachting. Jona loves improving himself in his spare time by learning and practising his wakeboarding skills. RIKUS VAN ZYL | Deck/Engineer | South Africa Rikus grew up in George, a small town in South Africa. As a teenager he spent his summer holidays working as a lifeguard on the numerous beaches in the area and it was during this time that he discovered his love for the ocean. After graduating from High School, Rikus knew that yachting would be the perfect fit for his future. He obtained the necessary qualifications to start this new journey and thus his career in this industry took shape. Rikus has obtained his AEC Qualification which qualifies him to assist the engineer, and he am working towards obtaining his Second Engineer Certification. During his free time, he enjoys hiking and exploring new areas, especially in nature as well as reading and learning new skills that he can apply to his professional and personal life. A fun fact – Rikus is a qualified custom knife maker and during his free time he enjoys making these custom knives from scratch. JEREMY COLLISTER | Chief Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand Jeremy was raised in Auckland, New Zealand. Growing up he could be found either on the water or pulling apart anything he could get his hands on; this combination naturally led him to a career as a Yacht Engineer. Jeremy has his SVE 9000kW 3000GT. Jeremy has cruised The Mediterranean, Caribbean, and the Pacific oceans. In his spare time, he enjoys sailing, kitesurfing and generally exploring the area around us. His early love for sailing helped him understand and respect the ocean in all forms. This love led him to sailing from Italy to Australia on his 44ft sail boat, much of it single handed. SEAN WEEKS | Chief Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand Sean was born and raised in the coastal town, Auckland New Zealand. After leaving school he did a technical apprenticeship and attended university. After completion of his studies, he travelled to North America with friends and ended up starting his yachting career while in Florida. He cruised the East Cost of the US crossed the Atlantic Ocean and cruised the Mediterranean whilst continuing his studies. Once Qualified he joined a world cruising charter sail yacht doing 20k miles per a year. Sean has his MCA Chief Engineer 3000GT and a diploma in Electrical Engineering. Having spent the last few years in Florida he now lives here permanently with his long-term girlfriend. Sean likes to spend his free time outdoors, either on the mountains in the snow or biking as well as trying different foods from different cultures. He loves the ocean, boating, fishing, and sailing as well as engineering science and modern and historical engineering. FILIP BANKS | 2nd Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand Filip was born in Poland and lived there for several years before moving with his family to the UK. This taught him to be bilingual as well as have an understanding for different cultures. That in-turn brought about a spark of interest towards being open minded as well as an appetite for travel. His first encounter with yachting came about at the age of 19, since then he has sailed in Asia, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Fillips previous vessel, Teleost, took him across to the Caribbean where he had the opportunity to learn to dive and see some of the most amazing sites. Before this he gained his qualifications with cruise ships (Royal Caribbean) as Engineer Officer of the Watch Unlimited (Merchant Navy Qualification). Fillips interests tie into literature, nutrition, and fitness. In the winter he enjoys clipping into a snowboard and cruising down white slopes. CASSIDY JERRAM | Chief Stewardess | South Africa Cassidy was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up on the beach she has always had a love for the ocean through surfing and wakeboarding. After matriculating, Cassidy flew straight over to the yachts and has been in the industry ever since. Since early 2015 she has cruised the Mediterranean, USA, Seychelles, and the Bahamas. In her spare time, she loves spending time outdoors in group sports, horse riding, nature hikes, and enjoying the local cuisines and cultures. She never misses a Wordle and loves a good crossword puzzle. When she is home, she enjoys working on her 1971 Chevrolet L/S Edition. Cassidy is also a qualified Yoga Instructor, she holds her 200Hr YTT, she is also the Medical Officer onboard M/Y TOP FIVE II. MEGAN RALPH– 2ND STEW After 5+ years of working onboard busy charter and private vessels, Megan joined the Top Five II team. Prior to yachting, Megan modelled with 20 Model Management. Megan enjoys fitness, hiking and staying active. Megan loves children and was an au pair in Cape Town, South Africa. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking for her friends and family. Megan is our number one go to for any organizational needs and is the relief Chief Stewardess onboard. EMMA HAUPT – STEW Emma was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and studied Human Resource Management at Stellenbosch University. Due to her experience working with people in the hospitality, she knew that the yachting industry would be a great fit for her. Emma spent the past year travelling and working in the winter ski chalets in the French Alps, and for a water sports company on a Greek Island. Emma enjoys wakeboarding, surfing and being out in the ocean and sun. JESSICA RUSTIN – STEW Jessica is from the beaches of Sydney, Australia. She is extremely grateful to have worked closely with children and to be a part of their development. Jess’s love for the ocean and luxury hospitality, facilitated her interest in yachting. JAMIE VAN SCHOOR | Junior Stewardess/Masseause | South Africa Jamie grew up in the beautiful Cape Town, South Africa with a passion for fitness and human anatomy. Jamie went to study Sports science at Stellenbosch University where she graduated with her degree and completed her sport massage courses. Jamie has a history of working in the fitness and hospitality industry and decided to pursue a career in yachting as it appealed to all her passions and skills. This yacht is a starting point in Jamie’s career where she is excited to grow and progress in this industry. She is excited to join as a stew/ masseuse and treat people to make them feel better. She has a passion for the water and loves all water sports like surfing and water polo. CARLY BOOTH– STEW / NURSE Carly has lived in several places around the US, but calls Evergreen, Colorado home. She enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking and rock climbing. Carly has a background in health sciences, nursing, and Spanish. She has worked as a nurse and a medical volunteer for the past 5 years, and recently decided to pursue a career as a nurse/stewardess to meet people from all over the world and travel. BRANDON POLLITE | Sous Chef | America Brandon grew up in St Louis, Missouri and after High School he attended the Military. He has lived in various states across the country and ended up going to culinary school in Colorado. It was here, working on the Ski slopes, that he was introduced to the yachting industry. He decided to jump at the opportunity and has loved every minute. Brandon likes spending his free time reading various cookbooks, as well as bike riding and relaxing at the beach. Thanks to his time in Colorado, he is also an avid skier. NIKI YOURA | 2nd Engineer (Rotational) | Canada Niki is an energetic Canadian whose heart has been longing for the sea as long as she can recall. She attributes this longing to frequent family trips to Canada’s West Coast. Despite being raised in Calgary, Alberta; a city surrounded by mountains and prairies; she always knew that her career would take her seaward. Niki has always had a curiosity about how and why things work the way they do. From a young age Niki was a tinkerer, choosing to work on her own cars rather than take them to a mechanic, work on home projects, and dismantle anything she could, just to take a peek inside. While attending a university transfer semester in Nice, France, she learned about the yachting industry. It was clear to her then, that yachting was the perfect way to combine her love for the sea, and constant curiosity into a rewarding career.

After summiting Kilimanjaro, he is planning to do the seven peaks culminating<br /> in Everest. Nico developed a real passion for sport, especially rugby from a very young age. Building on his love for rugby, he always enjoys; swimming, water sports, shooting, hiking and running. He always enjoys relaxing and taking timeout while reading a book. Nico studied at the University of Stellenbosch, where he qualified as an account. He returned to his hometown to complete his three years of articles. Once he had qualified, he realised that being tied down behind a desk and crunching numbers was not for him, so in 2018 he took to the seas, where he could be physically and mentally stimulated and has never looked<br /> back. Nico is embracing each day and learning as much as he can to build a firm foundation as he climbs the ladder to being a captain. After working as a paralegal for some time, he decided to pursue a life of travel and adventure and joined the yachting industry in 2014. Broc joined the industry in 2021 after selling his<br /> business which he ran during the early covid times in South Africa. Grant began his career as a Deckhand giving him an invaluable understanding<br /> of each position onboard. He gained his MCA Master 3000 Ton License in 2012 and took<br /> over as full-time Captain of M/Y Passion. Having acted as a relief Captain for some time already,<br /> this was a smooth transition for Grant, and he has since exceeded all expectations in the role. Grant<br /> has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Bahamas, East Coast of the USA, Mediterranean,<br /> Adriatic, and Aegean waters. Grant is a qualified PADI rescue diver and RYA Jet Ski Instructor.<br /> A keen sportsman, having competed for his provincial team in water polo, he enjoys the outdoors,<br /> surfing, keeping fit and hiking.<br /> <br /> ROB FULLER | Head Chef | England<br /> Chef Rob has been a Chef for many years & has travelled all over the world. Originally from England,<br /> where he was formally trained in the culinary arts, Rob seized the opportunity to be a Sous chef at<br /> the prestigious Ritz de Paris. From Paris he joined the yachting industry where his culinary knowledge<br /> has served him well. Mediterranean cuisine to Japanese cuisine is quite a diversification in the<br /> culinary world. Having worked with employers such as the Fayyad family, Danielle Steele and Giorgio<br /> Armani in their residences, villas and yachts, Chef Rob can supply high-end culinary masterpieces for<br /> the charter and guests. Chef Rob understands the diverse requirements for the client regardless of<br /> location or resources, creating menus from local ingredients is a fulfilling challenge.<br /> <br /> ROBERT SOLOMON | Chief Officer (Rotational) | South Africa<br /> Rob was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Having grown up on a lake, Rob spent all day in and<br /> around the water. He has a strong passion for all water sports and loves being outdoors. Rob joined<br /> the industry in 2003 and now has his Chief Mate 3000 qualification. He has worked on a variety of<br /> vessels over the years and has cruised the Adriatic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, east coast<br /> of Africa and east coast of the USA. He was a crew member on the first Top Five so when the new<br /> build was commissioned, he jumped at the opportunity to join the program again. His vast skillset<br /> and very friendly nature make him a great asset to the team. Rob loves anything that involves being<br /> outdoors and is an avid hiker. After summiting Kilimanjaro, he is planning to do the seven peaks culminating<br /> in Everest. The next peak on the list is Aconcagua in Argentina.<br /> <br /> <br /> LUKE DU PREEZ | Chief Officer (Rotational) | South Africa <br /> Luke grew up on the East Coast of South Africa and has a passion for fishing and diving and often<br /> combines the two to spearfish. Luke completed a degree in financial management and shortly after<br /> graduating he went and taught English in Vietnam for a year. Luke then decided to pursue a career<br /> in something that complimented his love for being at sea which led him to the yachting industry.<br /> Luke holds his Chief Mate 3000 is a master tender driver.<br /> <br /> NICO TRUETER | Second Officer | South Africa <br /> Nico was born in a small town called Riversdale in South Africa. Nico developed a real passion for sport, especially rugby from a very young age. Building on his love for rugby, he always enjoys; swimming, water sports, shooting, hiking and running. He always enjoys relaxing and taking timeout while reading a book. Nico studied at the University of Stellenbosch, where he qualified as an account. He returned to his hometown to complete his three years of articles. Once he had qualified, he realised that being tied down behind a desk and crunching numbers was not for him, so in 2018 he took to the seas, where he could be physically and mentally stimulated and has never looked<br /> back. Nico is embracing each day and learning as much as he can to build a firm foundation as he climbs the ladder to being a captain. Nico being as active as he is and enjoying a good challenge and can impressively do a handstand starting from a seated position.<br /> <br /> MATTHEW DAVEY – BOSUN <br /> Matt was born and raised in Boston Massachusetts and spent his teenage years and early 20’s growing up in Georgia. He attended Georgia State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, initially aspiring to become an attorney. After working as a paralegal for some time, he decided to pursue a life of travel and adventure and joined the yachting industry in 2014. He has journeyed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and spent time in the Mediterranean, and Bahamas, gaining a great deal of knowledge, experience, and certifications along the way. Currently, he is pursuing his Officer of the Watch Yacht License. Matt enjoys spending his free time staying in shape and embracing the great outdoors. He is an avid runner, skier, camper, and hiker.<br /> <br /> BROC MILLS | Lead Deckhand| South Africa <br /> Broc Mills grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Broc joined the industry in 2021 after selling his<br /> business which he ran during the early covid times in South Africa. This is Broc’s first boat, and he<br /> has been a part of the Top Five II team since before she was officially launched. Although growing<br /> up in-land he preferred to spend most of his time on the coast, diving, fishing and being outdoors.<br /> Broc is a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor and holds his Yacht master 200GT license. Broc enjoys<br /> freediving and surfing, along with a variety of other outdoor activities, during his free time.<br /> <br /> MILO COEN | Deckhand | American<br /> Milo grew up in Upstate NY, on the Finger Lakes. He started yachting after he graduated high<br /> school. He hasn’t looked back and is enjoying being part of the Top Five II team. He is working<br /> towards his future goal of being a Captain one day. Milo loves being in the outdoors and in his spare<br /> time he enjoys spearfishing and freediving, and his newfound love of saltwater fishing. Milo has his<br /> Able-bodied seafarer’s ticket under the USCG licensing and is working towards more advanced<br /> qualifications.<br /> <br /> NICHOLAS ADRIAENS | Deckhand / Kite Surf Instructor | South Africa<br /> Nicholas grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and has been kiteboarding and surfing for over 10<br /> years. Nicolas looks forward to<br /> taking you for kiteboarding and surfing lessons.<br /> <br /> JONA BRINK | Deckhand | South Africa<br /> Jona grew up on a farm in the central part of South Africa called Senekal. Where he has been spending<br /> most of his time fishing, diving doing water sports as well as improving on his carpenter skills<br /> over the years. Jona loves the great outdoors and being in nature. He joined the yachting industry<br /> shortly after finishing high School He wanted to pursue his passion to travel the world and learn<br /> about new cultures which is why he joined yachting. Jona loves improving himself in his spare time<br /> by learning and practising his wakeboarding skills. He has been working in America and the Bahamas<br /> and would like to make a long-term career out of yachting and work his way up to Chief Officer one<br /> day.<br /> <br /> RIKUS VAN ZYL | Deck/Engineer | South Africa<br /> Rikus grew up in George, a small town in South Africa. As a teenager he spent his summer holidays<br /> working as a lifeguard on the numerous beaches in the area and it was during this time that he discovered<br /> his love for the ocean. After graduating from High School, Rikus knew that yachting would<br /> be the perfect fit for his future. He obtained the necessary qualifications to start this new journey<br /> and thus his career in this industry took shape. Rikus has obtained his AEC Qualification which qualifies<br /> him to assist the engineer, and he am working towards obtaining his Second Engineer Certification.<br /> During his free time, he enjoys hiking and exploring new areas, especially in nature as well<br /> as reading and learning new skills that he can apply to his professional and personal life. A fun fact<br /> – Rikus is a qualified custom knife maker and during his free time he enjoys making these custom<br /> knives from scratch.<br /> <br /> <br /> JEREMY COLLISTER | Chief Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand<br /> Jeremy was raised in Auckland, New Zealand. Growing up he could be found either on the water or<br /> pulling apart anything he could get his hands on; this combination naturally led him to a career as a<br /> Yacht Engineer. Jeremy has his SVE 9000kW 3000GT. Jeremy has cruised The Mediterranean,<br /> Caribbean, and the Pacific oceans. In his spare time, he enjoys sailing, kitesurfing and generally<br /> exploring the area around us. His early love for sailing helped him understand and respect the ocean<br /> in all forms. This love led him to sailing from Italy to Australia on his 44ft sail boat, much of it single<br /> handed.<br /> <br /> SEAN WEEKS | Chief Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand<br /> Sean was born and raised in the coastal town, Auckland New Zealand. After leaving school he did<br /> a technical apprenticeship and attended university. After completion of his studies, he travelled to<br /> North America with friends and ended up starting his yachting career while in Florida. He cruised the<br /> East Cost of the US crossed the Atlantic Ocean and cruised the Mediterranean whilst continuing his<br /> studies. Once Qualified he joined a world cruising charter sail yacht doing 20k miles per a year. Sean<br /> has his MCA Chief Engineer 3000GT and a diploma in Electrical Engineering. Having spent the last<br /> few years in Florida he now lives here permanently with his long-term girlfriend. Sean likes to spend<br /> his free time outdoors, either on the mountains in the snow or biking as well as trying different foods<br /> from different cultures. He loves the ocean, boating, fishing, and sailing as well as engineering science<br /> and modern and historical engineering.<br /> <br /> FILIP BANKS | 2nd Engineer (Rotational) | New Zealand<br /> Filip was born in Poland and lived there for several years before moving with his family to the UK. This taught him to be bilingual as well as have an understanding for different cultures. That in-turn brought about a spark of interest towards being open minded as well as an appetite for travel. His first encounter with yachting came about at the age of 19, since then he has sailed in Asia, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Fillips previous vessel, Teleost, took him across to the Caribbean where he had the opportunity to learn to dive and see some of the most amazing sites. Before this he gained his qualifications with cruise ships (Royal Caribbean) as Engineer Officer of the Watch Unlimited (Merchant Navy Qualification). Fillips interests tie into literature, nutrition, and fitness. In the winter he enjoys clipping into a snowboard and cruising down white slopes.<br /> <br /> <br /> CASSIDY JERRAM | Chief Stewardess | South Africa<br /> Cassidy was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up on the beach she has always had a love<br /> for the ocean through surfing and wakeboarding. After matriculating, Cassidy flew straight over to<br /> the yachts and has been in the industry ever since. Since early 2015 she has cruised the Mediterranean,<br /> USA, Seychelles, and the Bahamas. In her spare time, she loves spending time outdoors<br /> in group sports, horse riding, nature hikes, and enjoying the local cuisines and cultures. She never<br /> misses a Wordle and loves a good crossword puzzle. When she is home, she enjoys working on her<br /> 1971 Chevrolet L/S Edition. Cassidy is also a qualified Yoga Instructor, she holds her 200Hr YTT, she<br /> is also the Medical Officer onboard M/Y TOP FIVE II.<br /> <br /> MEGAN RALPH– 2ND STEW <br /> After 5+ years of working onboard busy charter and private vessels, Megan joined the Top Five II team. Prior to yachting, Megan modelled with 20 Model Management. Megan enjoys fitness, hiking and staying active. Megan loves children and was an au pair in Cape Town, South Africa. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking for her friends and family. Megan is our number one go to for any organizational needs and is the relief Chief Stewardess onboard. <br /> <br /> EMMA HAUPT – STEW <br /> Emma was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and studied Human Resource Management at Stellenbosch University. Due to her experience working with people in the hospitality, she knew that the yachting industry would be a great fit for her. Emma spent the past year travelling and working in the winter ski chalets in the French Alps, and for a water sports company on a Greek Island. Emma enjoys wakeboarding, surfing and being out in the ocean and sun.<br /> <br /> JESSICA RUSTIN – STEW <br /> Jessica is from the beaches of Sydney, Australia. Prior to yachting, Jess completed her Bachelor of Teaching Degree and loved working as a schoolteacher. She is extremely grateful to have worked closely with children and to be a part of their development. Jess’s love for the ocean and luxury hospitality, facilitated her interest in yachting. The industry allows her to meet new people and see new places. She enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking and rock climbing. Carly has a background in health sciences, nursing, and Spanish. She has worked as a nurse and a medical volunteer for the past 5 years, and recently decided to pursue a career as a nurse/stewardess to meet people from all over the world and travel.<br /> <br /> BRANDON POLLITE | Sous Chef | America<br /> Brandon grew up in St Louis, Missouri and after High School he attended the Military. He has lived<br /> in various states across the country and ended up going to culinary school in Colorado. It was here,<br /> working on the Ski slopes, that he was introduced to the yachting industry. He decided to jump at<br /> the opportunity and has loved every minute. Brandon likes spending his free time reading various<br /> cookbooks, as well as bike riding and relaxing at the beach. As a child, Liz spent many years being homeschooled onboard, allowing for a natural progression into the yachting industry. While Liz now has a home in Mallorca, Spain, her parents are still cruising on their family Yacht. Living in Spain, Liz is bilingual- speaking Spanish and English. A seasoned veteran, Liz has been on 18 yachts ranging from 15 to 120 meters, including Motor Yacht “A”, Titania, Soprano, and Iman. Upon leaving school, Sean did a technical apprenticeship and attended University. After completion of his studies, he traveled to North America with friends and ended up starting his yachting career while in Florida. He cruised the East Coast of the US, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, and cruised the Mediterranean whilst continuing his studies. Once Qualified he joined a world cruising Charter Sail Yacht (doing 20k miles per year)! Sean has his MCA Chief Engineer 3000GT and a diploma in Electrical Engineering. Having spent the last few years in Florida, he permanently resides in the sunshine state with his long-term Girlfriend. Sean likes to spend his free time outdoors, either on the Mountains in the Snow or Biking as well as trying different Foods from diverse Cultures. He loves the Ocean, Boating, Fishing, and Sailing as well as Engineering science and modern and historical engineering. Sean performed the Haka in a Speedo whilst representing NZ for Water Polo. <br /> <br /> FILIP BANKS | 2nd Engineer | Polish <br /> Filip was born and raised in Poland. Upon moving with his family to the UK, Filip was bilingual from an early age. His diverse cultural knowledge fueled his appetite for travel. His first encounter with Yachting came at age 19, since then, he has sailed the seas of Asia, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, and the Caribbean. Fillip's previous vessel - Teleost, took him across to the Caribbean where he had the opportunity to become a Diver. Seeing pristine coral reefs and exotic marine life fueled his passion for the sea even more. Prior to his diving experience, he gained his qualifications with Royal Caribbean as an Engineer Officer of the Watch Unlimited (Merchant Navy Qualification). Fillips interests tie into literature, nutrition, and fitness. In the winter he enjoys clipping into a Snowboard and cruising down white slopes. One of his proud achievements is making 1-minute noodles in 59 seconds. <br /> <br /> <br /> ROB SOLOMAN | 2nd Officer | South African<br /> Rob was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Having grown up on a lake, Rob spent most of his time on the water. His passion for Watersports sparked an interest in the yachting industry. Rob joined the industry in 2003 and now has his Chief Mate 3000 qualifications. He has worked on a variety of vessels over the years and has cruised the Adriatic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, East Coast of Africa, and East Coast of the USA. Having been a crew member on the original TOP FIVE, Rob jumped at the opportunity to join the program again. Rob is an avid hiker- hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. Rob is planning to do the Seven Peaks culminating in Everest. The next peak on the list is Aconcagua, Argentina. <br /> <br /> LUKE DU PREEZ | Bosun | South African <br /> Luke grew up on the East Coast of South Africa, developing a passion for Fishing and Diving. Combining the two, Luke is also an avid spearfisherman. Luke completed a degree in Financial Management and went on to teach English in Vietnam. A year later, Luke decided to pursue a career in something that complimented his love for being at sea-leading him to the Yachting industry. A fun fact about Luke is that he is good at Mental Maths and at times proves to be his party trick. Luke has worked on several yachts including Symphony and Bravo Eugenia. Luke’s favorite places that he has traveled to while yachting has easily been Alaska. He also enjoys visiting the sunny Caribbean islands, most notably, Antigua and Grenada. <br /> <br /> DARYN FISHER | Lead Deckhand | American <br /> Daryn was born in Northern California. Growing up beside a ski resort in Lake Tahoe, Daryn learned to ski at a very young age. During the summer months, he would spend many days at the beach. Daryn’s love for the outdoors sparked his interest in yachting. He started his career at 19, working as a caretaker at a pristine estate on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. This is where he met a great friend who was previously a yacht captain and eventually introduced him to yachting. At age 23, Daryn made the move across the country to South Florida where he started his yachting career. He has been in the industry for 2+ years and has worked on several ranging from 38-70m in length. Daryn has cruised the East coast of the US, Atlantic Ocean, Bahamas the Sea of Cortez- having transited the Panamá canal. Daryn is currently a Lead Deckhand onboard TOP FIVE II and holds his 200-ton unlimited captain's license, efficient deckhand course, and short-range VHF certificate. Daryn especially enjoys Snowboarding and was the youngest Snowboarder to complete the Gun Barrel 25. His victory led to a featured article in the local Newspaper- a notable achievement for a child! <br /> <br /> MIGUEL DA SILVA | Deckhand| South African <br /> Miguel was born in South Africa and speaks both English and Afrikaans. Having grown up in Bloemfontein (inland) South Africa - Miguel grew up far from the sea. This distance from the water grew his passionate curiosity, leading him to the ocean to begin his yachting career. Prior to yachting, Miguel worked in IT and web development. Through combining his love for the sea and his IT skills, Miguel started his yachting career and has never looked back. Before working on TOP FIVE II, Miguel worked on Viva Rae, 35m, and Island Heiress, 42m thus making TOP FIVE II the largest vessel that he has worked on. Miguel has cruised the Bahamas and is now enjoying his time on the East Coast of America. <br /> <br /> NICO TRUETER | Deckhand | South African <br /> Nico was born in the quaint town of Riversdale, South Africa. Nico developed a real passion for sport, especially Rugby. Building on his love for Rugby, he also enjoys; Swimming, Water sports, Shooting, Hiking, and Running. He always enjoys relaxing and taking time out while reading a book. Nico studied at the University of Stellenbosch, where he qualified as an Accountant. He returned to his hometown to complete his three years of articles. Once he had qualified, he realized that being tied down behind a desk and crunching numbers was not for him. In 2018, Nico took to the seas, where he could be physically and mentally stimulated and has never looked back. Nico is embracing each day and learning as much as he can to build a firm foundation as he climbs the ladder to being a Captain. Nico is as active as he is and enjoying a good challenge and can impressively do a handstand starting from a seated position. <br /> <br /> DANTE MINATEL | Deck/Engineer | American <br /> Dante was born in the United States. Dante was previously onboard M/Y BABA before joining TOP FIVE II as a Deck/Engineer. He has cruised the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, English Channel, and East Coast of the US. Before yachting, Dante achieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University. He Grew up on the lakes of Michigan participating in all Water Sports, Boating, and everything on the water. Yearning for a career that combined water and engineering, yachting was the perfect fit! Dante loves to be outdoors and often spends his free time exercising, Hiking and Kayaking. He also does drone videography and photography.<br /> <br /> BROC MILLS | Junior Deckhand | South African <br /> Broc Mills grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is bilingual, speaking both English and Afrikaans. Broc spent most of his time on the coast, specifically diving in the open sea. Having a passion for the ocean, Broc always dreamt of working on the water. His goal was to travel the world by boat, eventually leading him to the yachting industry. TOP FIVE II being Broc's first boat, he is thrilled to join the team as a deckhand. Learning the ropes of the yachting world, Broc has earned his day skipper, powerboat level 2, and PWC certifications. Broc has cruised the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean. Spending most of his time outdoors, Broc enjoys Free Diving, Scuba Diving, Swimming, Rock climbing, Running, and Hiking. Kate-lynne joined the yachting industry 8 years ago and has cruised the Caribbean, Central American, South American, and the East Coast of American seas. Kate-lynne enjoys leading a healthy and active lifestyle through Hiking, Diving, and keeping fit. Kate-lynne has a thirst for travel and exploring and especially enjoys discovering quaint, off-the-map destinations, embracing their beauty and their different cultures. <br /> <br /> BIANCA BAMBROUGH | 2nd Stewardess | South African <br /> Bianca was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She grew up on a smallholding on the coast and spent most of her time at the beach. Bianca’s parents traveled extensively- journeying across the globe surfing and diving- planting the seed for wanderlust. With the desire to travel and a love of adventure, Bianca pursued a career in yachting at the age of 18. Bianca has been progressing through the industry for five years and was on board M/Y YALLA, M/Y WHEELS, AND M/Y LIONESS V before joining M/Y TOP FIVE II as 2nd Stewardess. She has cruised the Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, English Channel, and East Coast of the US. Bianca likes to spend her free time outdoors, exploring new places and trying out new restaurants. Her hobbies include running, hiking, scuba diving, yoga, and reading. She particularly enjoys books on nutrition. Bianca has a big interest in nutrition and has an integrative nutrition health coach certificate and hopes to study more on the subject in the future. <br /> <br /> VICTORIA COETZEE | 3rd Stewardess | South African <br /> Victoria was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up close to the West Coast of South Africa, she was born with a love for the sea. Learning how to sail when she was just five years old, Victoria’s passion for the sea has grown ever since. Obtaining an undergraduate degree in Advertising, Victoria specialized in digital media and brand management. She continued to obtain her honors degree in Entrepreneurial Management. After 4 years of working in her qualified field, the urge to travel and explore led her to once again set sail and join the yachting industry. Victoria has been in the industry for three years on Yachts ranging from 28m sailing yachts to 95m motor yachts. Victoria thoroughly enjoys the outdoors, whether it be in and on the water or hiking in the mountains. She enjoys Wakeboarding, Water Skiing, Diving, Running, and Hiking. Victoria has completed three half marathons and is working towards her first Ultra-marathon, being the Comrade's Marathon (89 Kilometers) in South Africa. <br /> <br /> NIM SUJANTA | Stewardess / Masseuse | Thai <br /> Nim was born in Sisaket province in the Northeast of Thailand. Nim can speak Thai, Lao, Cambodian, and English. Back in April, Storm Kathleen slammed into the west coast of Ireland as a fearsome Force 10 gale, packing 70 mph winds and 15-foot waves. While locals sandbagged their homes and prepared for the worst, Frank Kowalski decided it was a swell day for a boat ride.

Evolved from Safehaven’s 75-foot XVS20 monohull launched in 2018, Kowalski used his expertise in building commercial, work-boat power catamarans to design the twin-hulled T-2000 Voyager to offer speed with stability.

“The stability in beam seas is what’s key here,” he says. “While we were out recently in a Force 8 with 40-plus knot winds and 12-foot seas, we were able to stop and leave the boat to drift while we retrieved a drone. It just took the waves on the beam with ease. In a monohull, it would have been rolling so badly you couldn’t have stood on the deck.”

Then there’s the sheer velocity that comes with twin, scalpel-thin hulls slicing through waves. With the T-2000’s pair of 1,550 hp MAN V12 diesels driving France Helices SD5 surface drives, the Safehaven can hit a top speed of 57 mph. 

“It’s just the most amazing sight, standing on the stern, watching these huge roostertails behind,” Kowalski adds. “We’ve also incorporated retracting swim platforms so you can see the props spinning on the surface, plus valved exhausts that switch between silenced and straight-through. The noise from those V12s is sensational.”

His hull No. 1 demonstrator boat has all-diamond-quilted marine leather, well-finished cabinetry, colored LED lighting, and below-deck accommodations for six in three cabins. Hull No. 2—already sold and due for completion in the next 18 months—will up the luxury factor.

“It’s going to a client in the Middle East who plans to use it for just himself and his wife,” says Kowalski. The client has specified a full-width owner’s suite with a central, king-size bed and oversized his-and-hers bathrooms and closets in each hull. “He also wants to go fast— very fast,” Kowalski continues. “So we’ll install twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s, again with surface drives, and a central hydrofoil to reduce drag. The plan is for it to hit a top speed in excess of 69 mph.”

The new T-2000 is also designed to go the distance. With the 2,900-gallon tanks, it has a range of more than 1,000 nautical miles at 34.5 mph, and 1,700 nautical miles at 18 mph. Throttle back to 12 mph and range increases to 3,000-plus nautical miles.

Much of this is down to the yacht’s symmetrical, semi-wave-piercing hulls, made of a carbon-fiber-composite construction, with inverted lower bow sections and a double-chine arrangement that projects spray clear of the boat. The hydrofoil in mid position also means that, at speed in calmish seas, the T-2000 rides with half its hull length out of the water.

To eliminate waves slamming into the bridge deck windshield, Kowalski moved the pilothouse farther back. It also makes for a sleeker profile, giving the T-2000 the look of a single-hull sportsyacht.

The entire helm area gets flooded with light courtesy of the four-panel, angled windshield and quartet of fixed skylights above. To see the boat’s hydrofoil in action, the bridge has a glass panel in the floor that’s also designed for viewing marine life below at night. Most of the windows have half-inch-thick toughened panels to shrug off cascading water. 

In finer weather than typically found on coastal Ireland, the T-2000 has a small flybridge with a helm station and sun-lounge area up top, plus a covered stern cockpit with sofas and table for alfresco dining.

This storm-tested, metallic-red demonstrator is available for around $3.35 million.
