Fact check: Get your boat licence in Croatia!

Would you like to be your own captain together we can make your dream come true and clarify all the important questions about the croatian coastal licence..

Merk&Merk

Have you been dreaming of being your own captain for a long time? Then there’s only one thing left to say: cast off! Before you set course for independence and relaxation, however, there are a few basic points to check. So that you don’t have to face closed “seas”, we will clarify all the important questions about the Croatian coastal patent.

What do I need to know in order to be allowed to drive a boat in Croatia?

One thing right away: You can’t drive a boat in Croatia without a boat licence. In contrast to Germany, a licence is required for every motorised boat in Croatia. Even non-motorised boats over 2.5 metres in length are affected by this regulation – with the exception of rowing boats, paddle boats and surfboards. In addition, boat owners are obliged to buy a vignette for their boat at the respective harbour office.

How can I obtain a boat licence for Croatia?

It’s very simple: You only have to register for a course. The learning materials will then be made available to you digitally. With the help of these documents, you can prepare for the course from the comfort of your own home.

The Croatian coastal licence is an official licence issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Maritime Affairs and Transport. For this reason, an oral examination is held by the officials of the local port authority. A practical exam is not necessary. In our case, the exam is taken at the Vodice Port Authority.

Only a few days after successfully passing the exam, the boat licence is issued. As this is a theoretical exam, we recommend that you take a practical training course before your first trip.

What types of boat licences are valid in Croatia?

In addition to the Croatian boat licence, official boat licences from the holder’s home country are also valid. If you have any questions about the recognition of your coastal patent, we will be happy to help!

In general, it can be stated that holders of the Croatian coastal licence (Boat Skipper Category B) within the 12-mile zone are entitled to

  • Passenger vessels up to three miles off the coast and islands,
  • cargo or fishing boats,
  • pleasure boats (of all types),
  • yachts up to 30 GT and
  • Charter yachts up to 30 GT without professional crew.

If there are islands off the coast, the twelve miles from the offshore island apply. The coastal patent does not apply to rivers and lakes. A separate patent must be obtained for these. Outside the 12-mile zone, a licence is no longer required, as these are international waters.

What categories of boat licence are there?

Category boat skipper – a.

A category A boat skipper’s licence can be obtained from the age of 15. Attending a course is not a prerequisite for obtaining the licence. Mastery of the basics of navigation is required, which includes:

  • reading nautical charts,
  • determining course and distance,
  • collision avoidance rules at sea – practical demonstration with models,
  • lights on ships,
  • day signals, sound signals, danger signals,
  • ropes and knots,
  • meteorology and
  • winds in the Adriatic.

CATEGORY BOAT SKIPPER – B

At the age of 16 you are entitled to take the category B boat skipper exam. After passing the examination, the master of a category B boat is entitled to operate a boat or yacht for own use up to 30 GT in the area of navigation IIa, III (without restrictions) and IV with his licence. Until the age of 18, the engine power is limited to 15 KW (20 hp), thereafter the engine power is no longer limited.

CATEGORY BOAT SKIPPER – C

The Category C Boat Skipper is the first degree of a professional skipper – captain for all seas of the world. The course comprises a total of 25 hours of lectures and exercises, plus the compulsory six hours of practical sailing instruction. After passing the exam, a Category C skipper is allowed to skipper boats and yachts up to 30 GT commercially, regardless of the sailing zone (worldwide) and the type of vessel.

CATEGORY YACHT MASTER A

To obtain a licence, a category A yacht master (up to 100 gross tonnes) must meet the following requirements:

  • completed 18th year of age,
  • successfully passed his school-leaving examination,
  • at least 12 months sailing experience on a commercial or public vessel,
  • three years’ experience as a category C boatmaster, and
  • pass a special vision and hearing test.

CATEGORY YACHT MASTER B

To obtain a licence, a category B yacht master (up to 500 gross tonnes) must meet the following requirements:

  • completed 25th year of age,
  • at least a successfully passed school-leaving examination,
  • two years sailing experience as a member of a navigation watch or
  • 12 months sailing experience as a yacht commander up to 100 GT as well as
  • have good eyesight and hearing.

Is the Croatian boat licence also valid in Germany?

The Croatian licence is not recognised for people who are resident in Germany. So if you are German and want to sail a boat in German waters, you need a German boat licence. Persons residing in Croatia are allowed to sail in German territorial waters for one year with the Croatian coastal patent within the framework of the host country regulation. After that, a German driving licence must be obtained and presented.

Can I drive a boat abroad with a Croatian coastal licence?

Yes, this is possible. Within the framework of the IMO (International Maritime Organisation), all countries bordering the Mediterranean have signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of boating licences.

Can I have my Croatian boat licence rewritten?

It is not possible to have the Croatian coastal licence transcribed into a German boat licence.

I lack practical experience, can I still drive a boat?

Bootsführerschein kroatien

Anyone who has passed the boating licence examination is allowed to steer a motorised sports boat. The practical basics can be learned during a skipper training course. Especially if you are planning a boat trip with friends or family, we recommend taking practical lessons beforehand for safety reasons. Skipper's License

Skipper's License Croatia

According to Croatian law , at least one person on the vessel must possess valid Navigational and VHF licences. If you want to charter a yacht but don’t want to hire a skipper, then you must have valid licences in addition to sailing experience.

Navigational and VHF licences in Croatia are issued by Port Authorities. If your licence has been issued in a foreign country, please check whether it is valid for Croatian territorial waters. To obtain a skipper’s license, one must take classes and pass an exam that includes theoretical and practical elements. If you want to bareboat charter, you must send us copies of your licences in advance to confirm the booking. If there is something wrong with your papers, we will inform you immediately.

You also need to have the original copies with you on-board, so don’t forget to take them. Croatian laws are very strict on this matter, and it is impossible to charter a boat without all the necessary documents .

Navigating Croatia’s Waters: Understanding Boat License Laws

Introduction:.

Croatia, with its stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters, is a dream destination for boating enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a novice looking to explore its picturesque shores, it’s important to be aware of the country’s boat license laws. In this article, we’ll provide a comprehensive guide to help you navigate Croatia’s waters safely and legally.

Boating Without a License:

Croatia allows individuals to rent boats without a license, but there are certain conditions to consider:

1. Boat Type and Size: You can rent boats without a license if the boat’s engine power is below 30 HP. These boats are typically smaller vessels, such as dinghies and small motorboats. If you plan to rent a larger boat, you’ll need a valid boat license.

2. Age Requirement: The person operating the boat must be at least 18 years old.

3. Experience: While no specific license is required, rental companies typically ask renters to have some boating experience. They may require you to demonstrate your ability to operate the boat safely.

4. Local Regulations: Keep in mind that local regulations and requirements may vary, so it’s essential to check with the specific boat rental company for their specific rules and guidelines.

Boating with a License:

If you plan to rent a larger boat with an engine power exceeding 30 HP, you’ll need a valid boat license. Here are the key points to consider:

1. Boat Type and Size: Larger vessels, such as yachts and more powerful motorboats, require a boat license.

2. Age Requirement: The minimum age for operating a boat with a skipper’s license is typically 18 years or older.

3. License Validation: Ensure that your boat license is recognized in Croatia. The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is widely accepted, but it’s important to verify with the rental company.

4.Safety Briefing: Even if you have a license, boat rental companies may provide a safety briefing or a short orientation to familiarize you with the specific boat and local regulations.

Stay Updated :

It’s important to note that regulations and requirements may change over time. To ensure you’re complying with the current laws and regulations, verify the latest information from official sources. Additionally, check if there have been any changes or updates in regulations or requirements since your last knowledge update.

Navigating the waters of Croatia is an exhilarating experience, and understanding the country’s boat license laws is essential for a safe and enjoyable journey. Whether you’re setting sail without a license on a small motorboat or embarking on a yachting adventure with your valid skipper’s license, knowing the rules ensures a smooth and memorable boating experience along Croatia’s stunning coastline.

"Since having a pleasure craft license doesn't necessarily mean that you can sail out of a marina without having an accident, we booked a skipper training course with a partner. Excellent instruction and training. Maneuvers are rehearsed until they work."

"Mega good organization. Script was good to study at home. Meik was also available at all times and answered questions in advance. The lessons with Meik before the exam were also very good and helpful. We had some skipper training with Bruno beforehand, which was excellent. Many thanks to Meik and his team! We are happy to recommend you."

"I got my boat license with Meik in Porec. Simple, stress-free and super friendly. I registered on Thursday and attended the course on Friday evening. I then successfully completed my exam on Saturday. That's exactly how it should be :)"

Frequently Asked Questions

Home Charter Guide Frequently Asked Questions

We want your sailing experience to be as pleasurable and stress-free as possible. So, we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions to put your mind at ease.

For bareboat in Croatia, the skipper should possess a license for operating a pleasure craft, issued by the state authority of the country that you are coming from. A valid VHF license is also required. Licenses from almost all European countries are accepted in Croatia. To check if you have a valid license, please download the list of valid licenses issued by Croatian Ministry of Sea .

We understand that times are still uncertain, so our FLEXPLAN is a service that gives you more freedom, flexibility and peace of mind for your yacht charter booking. FLEXPLAN allows you to cancel or rebook your charter up to 30 days before your charter with no strict reason required. You can reschedule your holiday at no cost for an unlimited number of times, or use a credit note if you are unsure of new charter dates. With FLEXPLAN your rebooking costs are eliminated, while cancellation costs (WITH refund option) are reduced to a minimum. This FLEXPLAN also includes free cancellation and FULL refund, in the case of closed state borders within 7 days before embarkation. The FLEXPLAN costs 10% of the final charter price, and can be added to a booking up to 72 hours after booking confirmation. Note: it is not available for bookings confirmed within 30 days before embarkation. See our full FLEXPLAN conditions here .

Chartering outside Croatian territorial waters is generally not allowed. However, some routes can be arranged – i.e., crossing to Montenegro from our Dubrovnik base, or Italy from our Biograd or Kaštela base. We just need to know in advance if you are planning such a route because not all of our yachts have international permits, and we need time to prepare all of the necessary documents for you. When crossing any borders, remember that you are obliged to report to the Croatian custom office, and to the office of the country you are entering. The customs office is usually in the harbour master’s office – be sure to visit the nearest customs as soon as cross the border .

Chartering a boat for a regatta is a standard option in our offer. You can choose one of our boats to join a regatta or you can organise your own regatta with our Hanse 458 and Hanse 418 mono-fleet. Keep in mind that some extra costs will arise from this arrangement. A double deposit is usually requested for security reasons. An additional 20% of the standard charter fee is also charged as a regatta fee.

The security deposit is the amount you are liable for if any damage to the yacht occurs as a consequence of mishandling the yacht during charter. The security deposit is left at the base (cash or card authorisation) during your check-in procedure. The security deposit will be refunded in full unless damage has occurred to the yacht. Note that the security deposit is the maximum amount you can be charged. Everything that exceeds this amount will be covered by the insurance company. If a theft occurs during your yacht charter – i.e., the dingy or any boat equipment, please be sure to report it immediately to the nearest police station.

The damage waiver (additional insurance of the security deposit that practically covers all the damages) can be bought in all our marina offices at embarkation. The cost is 7% of the security deposit and it covers all damages exceeding 100 EUR. Please note that gross negligence examples like blocked toilets, loss of equipment or refuelling, are not covered by the deposit insurance.

Diving in Adriatic is forbidden without a valid license. You need to have a valid diver’s card issued by the Croatian Diving Federation. This license can be obtained if you have a valid diver’s brevet that was issued by an international diving association (IDD, UDI, CMAS, MDEA, PADI…).

A valid fishing license is required if you wish to fish. The license can easily be obtained in fishing clubs that are authorised to issue licenses to foreign citizens, or simply visit this website . Please note that fishing in National Parks like Mljet or Kornati is forbidden. When you receive your license, you will also receive a list of prohibited zones for fishing, and a list of accepted fishing equipment.

Mooring fees vary from marina to marina. Mooring costs also depend on the location, popularity of the marina, and size of the boat; for example, the mooring fee for a catamaran is usually double the cost of the mooring fee for a mono-hull of the same size. Average costs for a 43 ft boat are approximately 50 – 70 EUR per day. If you already have a sailing route in mind, you can check the prices online. Of course, there are always areas with free anchorages or free mooring at a jetty (if you dine in their restaurant). Click here for more information about marinas in Croatia .

Yes. Booking a berth online is possible in advance with the my-sea application , you will receive this code when you charter one of our yachts. Be aware that all marinas have different booking conditions. Also, note that our yachts have an annual berth in their ‘home base’, so when staying in the boat’s home base, your stay in the marina is free of charge.

The National currency in Croatia is the kuna (HRK). Although Croatia is part of the EU, and some places will accept euro, know that in most cases, the Croatian kuna is the only accepted currency. However, don’t worry about needing to carry lots of cash with you, as ATMs are available almost everywhere.

The weather forecast can be obtained in any marina reception. Of course, you can always call the base or listen to the weather forecast on the radio and VHF, as they are broadcasted frequently, especially during the summer season. There are also plenty of online options, windy.com is a great source for weather and wind reports.

Yes, you can bring electrical devices on board but there are a few things to know:

  • Croatia uses the standard European 2-point plug – so you may need to buy an adapter.
  • All Croatia Yachting boats are equipped with power inverters that provide a 220V current at all times. However, keep usage of devices to a minimum when sailing, so the system is not overwhelmed.
  • 220 V electricity is also available when connected to shore power in marinas or if you have a generator on board.
  • Be rational when using devices, unplug anything that isn’t necessary, use or charge your devices more frequently when connected to shore power.

Yes, phone chargers can be used on board with the standard 220 V plug – just be sure you have the necessary adapters. 220 V is available on all Croatia Yachting boats through inverters, with a generator or when connected to shore power. You can also connect your phone to the cigarette lighter on board (using a car phone adapter).

Most of the Croatian coast and sea is covered with mobile phone signal. Naturally, in some small bays or remote locations, there may be no signal, but this is rare.

The charter price includes the vessel rental, all navigation and safety equipment, dinghy, and bed linen. The obligatory payment required at check-in, is for the transit log or charter pack, tourist tax, and any extra equipment (if not already paid in advance). Outboard engine, gennaker, spinnaker, snorkelling equipment and other water toys are optional services that are not included in the charter fee, but can be arranged upon request (best to request in advance to make your check-in procedure easier).

Towel are included in the transit log; each person on board will be provided with one set of bathroom towels. Extra sets can be arranged with a surcharge. Beach towels are not included as part of the towel set, we recommend bringing them with you.

Embarkation is Saturday afternoon from 5 pm. This is because we need time to prepare the boat for charter, cleaning, checking the boat and equipment, etc. However, you can request an early check-in (in advance at a surcharge), or if the boat is ready earlier, where possible, we may allow early embarkation.

Check-out is Saturday morning by 9 am. However, we require that all yachts return to the base marina (where you started your sailing adventure) by Friday 6 pm. Our technician will check the boat Friday afternoon to ensure everything is ok, and you are still free to stay aboard until disembarkation on Saturday morning.

Charter is always weekly, from Saturday to Saturday. Exceptions to this rule can be made, but only during off season or as a last-minute option. For more details on daily offers please contact our booking department via email [email protected] .

The provisioning is not included in the price for the  skipper’s services , meaning that you have to provide food for the skipper whether you are dining at a restaurant or on board. The skippers do not abuse this custom and in most cases, these arrangements run very smoothly.

Yes! We love that families go sailing. Of course, some precautions need to be taken and considerations made when sailing with children. If you charter a motorboat, we recommend booking a motorboat with a flybridge option. If you charter a sailing yacht, we recommend a catamaran – as they are more spacious and stable, compared to mono-hulls. Children should always be wearing lifejackets. As an extra safety precaution for your littlest sailors, safety nets and lifebelts can be arranged – just note that these are charged extra and need to be arranged in advance. Read our full blog Sailing with Kids – Tips and Tricks to learn more.

It is customary and expected to tip your yacht crew. The standard gratuity is usually 5 – 15% of the charter cost. Our professional crew members are there for you every step of your holiday; they work hard and will do their best to ensure you have a memorable sailing experience. Gratuity is a way to say “thank you for taking care of us”. Remember to include this cost in your budget calculations – you can also read our blog Budgeting for Your Sailing Holiday for more information .

If you are unable to start your charter, we will provide a credit note (so you can reschedule your yacht charter) ONLY in cases when the following occurs:

  • If Croatian state borders are closed
  • If the state border of your country of residence is closed
  • If quarantine for a minimum of 7 days (without testing) is required upon your return to your country of residence

The credit note is equal to the amount of payment already received by us, and is valid for future charter on yachts in our fleet, within 12 months from the date of cancellation. This credit note can only be claimed for the reasons stated above, announced within 7 days before embarkation.

All of our base marinas have large supermarkets available within walking distance of the marina, making it easy to do your initial provisioning. However, if you want to save time and hassle, check Jam Yacht Supply who can deliver straight to your yacht!

Parking is available in all of our base marinas. ACI Dubrovnik and marina Kastela, can easily accommodate all parking inquiries throughout the year, while Marina Kornati has limited space during the peak season. Our team will be happy to help you with advice and information about parking. The parking fee is slightly different in every marina, but on average, our base marina weekly parking costs are between 50 – 56 EUR (400 HRK).

In general, we accept bank transfer payment, as well as payment by all major credit cards. Note: some payments are required during check-in (tourist tax etc.), this is required in cash (local currency HRK). However, don’t stress, once the booking is confirmed, you will receive all necessary payment instructions from our booking department.

Cancellation fees are calculated according to the date of cancellation. Here is a breakdown:

  • 25% of the contracted price, if the charter is cancelled 61 days before embarkation.
  • 50% of the contracted price, if the charter is cancelled between 60 – 31 days before embarkation
  • 100% of the contracted price if the charter is cancelled within 30 days before of the embarkation date

If the cancellation is due to serious reasons (death of a family member, serious injury, war or any other exceptional circumstance), the received deposit will not be refunded but the boat charter can be rescheduled for another time slot during the same season. Read more about our charter conditions and cancellation policies here .

What Licence is Required to Rent a Boat in Croatia?

motorboat license croatia

Croatia is a great destination for bareboat charters. Thanks to its warm weather and calm wind, this country has close to perfect sailing conditions. It is ideal for beginning sailors who wish to gain some experience in operating a boat and for those who simply want to enjoy a calm and pleasant bareboat charter. But what are the boat license requirements in Croatia? Let’s take a closer look and answer this question.

Legal Requirements

According to Croatian law, to operate a boat you must have a valid Nautical (skipper’s licence) and VHF licence. In addition to that, you must be over 18 years old and have all the necessary sailing experience.

motorboat license croatia

In Croatia, skipper and VHF licences are issued by the port authorities. To get your license, you must pass an exam that includes practical and theoretical assessments. If you already have your licences from a country other than Croatia, please check whether it is valid for Croatian territorial waters. If you wish to hire a bareboat yacht charter, please send a copy of your licence to your GlobeSailor’s advisor, who will consult you on the validity of your documents and will assist you with further steps. You should also fill out the nautical CV where you will indicate your past experiences of boat operation.

On the day of your charter, you must have the original documents with you. Croatian law strictly regulates bareboat charters and exceptions cannot be made.

Alternative Options

If you meet all the necessary requirements to rent a bareboat in Croatia but still feel uncomfortable sailing on your own, we have a perfect solution for you.

Participate in Flotilla Sailing Holiday

motorboat license croatia

Sailing Flotilla is when several boats sail together while being guided by a flagship. Onboard this leading ship, a skipper, a technician, and a hostess will be at your disposal if necessary, advising and helping you with harbour manoeuvres, anchorage, etc. This is indeed a great way to practice your skills, get more confidence and stay safe, knowing that there is an expert who can help at any time.

If you don’t meet all the necessary requirements to rent a bareboat and still want to go for a yacht charter in Croatia, don’t worry, all you need to do is…

Rent a Boat with a Skipper

motorboat license croatia

Most of the charters on our website can be booked with a skipper, who will take care of the navigation, advise you on the itinerary, and will point out the best recreational spots. A skipper can also teach you all the basics of navigation and even practice some sailing manoeuvres with you.

Please keep in mind that a Croatian skipper costs approximately 150 euros and needs his/her own cabin during the charter. Our adviser will be happy to assist you with finding a skipper, simply ask for this option before proceeding with your booking.

About skipper training

The cruising season is truly underway, and there is a strong necessity for a proper education at sea. an aspiration to become a skipper requires complete dedication to the job, as the degree of responsibility at sea is extremely high. only properly educated and trained skippers can provide a safe and peaceful cruising experience, and that is exactly why we want to present the following skipper training..

The training includes 2 program:

– Basic (3h) training boats Quicksilver Commander and Arvor – Advanced (8h) training on our Pershing 37 and Technohull T7 vessels (different schedule also possible by prior arrangement); – the training plan will include learning the techniques of landing, mooring, anchoring, navigation at sea, boat maneuvering, collision avoidance at sea, protective measures, meteorology, legal regulations, first aid, safety at sea and radiotelephony.

The main goal is to equip all participants of the program for safe cruising, while instructors will be paying great attention to the exercises on navigation charts (Navionics), the boat specifications, as well as the weather conditions at sea.

Every skipper must be aware that they are the captain of the ship. They are responsible at all times for the safe management of the ship, as well as the safety of the passengers. During summer, tens of thousands of different vessels cruise in the Adriatic Sea. However, often due to skipper’s inexperience, insecurity, or lack of knowledge, accidents occur that result in great material damage, and even injuries to persons on board.

To prevent such accidents, skippers are properly trained, and guidance of the experienced instructors of this training center is an integral part of the training program.

Do I need a boat license to rent a boat in Croatia?

motorboat license croatia

Are you dreaming of a Croatian adventure on the sea, but need clarification on the requirements for renting a boat? Don’t worry, Yacht In has got you covered!

Let Yacht In take care of the details while you explore the stunning Croatian coast and make unforgettable memories.

What type of boating license is required?

If you plan on operating the boat yourself, you’ll need a valid boat license that is recognized by Croatian authorities. The most common licenses accepted are the ICC (International Certificate of Competence) or the RYA Day Skipper license.

It’s important to note that if you’re chartering a boat that’s less than 7 meters in length with an engine of less than 15 horsepower, you won’t need a boat license.

But what if you don’t have a boat license? Yacht-In has you covered with our professional crewed charter services. Our experienced and qualified skippers can take you to the best spots and safely navigate the waters, allowing you to sit back and relax while enjoying the stunning Croatian coast.

If you plan to sail yourself, you’ll need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid ID. You’ll also need to be familiar with navigation and have basic knowledge of the sea and weather conditions.

It’s important to note that boat rental requirements may vary depending on the rental company and the type of boat. You should always check the specific requirements with the rental company before booking.

Necessary permits and fees

When planning a boating adventure, it is essential to understand that a valid license or skipper is not the only requirement. You will need to obtain the necessary permits and pay fees before setting sail. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in legal consequences or even cause disruptions to your boating plans.

Apart from a valid license, you must pay a daily tourist tax for each person on board and a sailing permit, which is a legal requirement for boats that are longer than 7 meters. It is important to note that these fees may vary depending on the length of the ship and the duration of your stay.

You should always check with the local authorities or your boating service provider for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Moreover, it is advisable to research any additional permits or fees that may be required for the specific areas you plan to sail in.

For instance, some areas may require additional permits for fishing, anchoring, or swimming, and failing to obtain these permits may result in hefty fines. Knowing about these requirements beforehand can help you plan and budget for your trip accordingly.

With all these requirements in mind, you can rest assured that Yacht-in is here to help you plan your perfect boating vacation in Croatia. Whether you choose to sail solo or with a professional skipper, Yacht-in can help you navigate the complex rules and regulations, obtain the necessary permits, and ensure that your trip is safe and enjoyable.

Get ready to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Croatian coast and create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Skippers licenses in Croatia

For  bareboat charter in Croatia  it is a necessary to have a valid skipper’s license and  license to operate radio station according to the Croatian maritime law.

In the event of a bareboat charter (without our skipper) the client skipper must be in possession of a certificate of competence in order to charter a boat. It is also a legal requirement for skipper or one member of the crew to be qualified for the operation with the VHF station (possessing the VHF license).

Licenses and certificates corresponding to the Croatian program and containing the verification of the state are accepted by the Croatian authorities. The VHF license is obligatory, as well.

Most of the RYA licenses are accepted (www.rya.org.uk) for sailing in Croatian territorial waters.

To make sure your skipper’s license is valid in Croatia check if it is listed here .

Fantastic news from the croatian ministry of maritime affairs, transport and infrastructure.

From now on, you can freely and legitimately charter any Lagoon 42, Lagoon 450, or Lagoon 50; any sailing yacht or catamaran within that range (all yachts up to 18m) without possessing the Yachtmaster Licence. As 30 GT is set aside, the Yachtmaster licence is only required for the charter of the yachts greater than 18 m.

This news came straight from the office of Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure a couple of months ago and now is officially published.

Check the list of certificates issued by the competent authorities of other states that have concluded bilateral Memorandum of Understanding with Croatian Administration recognized for operating Croatian flag boats and yachts here.

*****************************************************

Croatian citizen often need a boat skipper license category B,  while others must have a license that is on the list of recognized certificates issued by the Ministry.

Also you can get skipper license in Croatia or hire a skipper for charter.

Croatian licenses There are several categories of  Croatian licenses issued by the Ministry of Sea, Transport and  Infrastructure. You will obtain international skippers license.

Boat Skipper category B – is authorized to operate pleasure boats up to 30GT or charter boats up to 30GT without professional crew – navigation area III and IV 3.) Boat Skipper category C – is authorized to operate with any kind of boats up to 30GT – navigation area I, II and all world’s seas 4.) Yacht Master category A and B – is authorized to operate with any kind of boats up to 100GT for A category and up to 500 for B category – navigation area on all world’s seas

Dubrovnik: Known for its beautiful old town and impressive medieval walls, the city of Dubrovnik   presents a delightful blend of history, culture, and coastal scenery. Split: Situated along the Adriatic Sea , Split   boasts a waterfront promenade, the renowned Diocletian's Palace , and easy access to nearby islands such as Hvar and Brač . Like many Mediterranean destinations, Croatia has a considerable summer season , from late April to the beginning of October . The peak of the summer period occurs during July and August , offering superbly sunny days and creating an idyllic atmosphere for leisurely sailing and maritime exploration.

For those seeking a calmer experience, we recommend a holiday during the shoulder season . While the sun continues to grace the Croatian shores, this period offers a respite from the bustling crowds typically encountered during the peak months. As September unfolds, harbours and beaches gradually start to empty, presenting an opportunity to relish in the serene ambience and savour moments of utmost tranquillity and relaxation.

By opting for a Croatian getaway during the low season , you can fully immerse yourself in the coastline's natural beauty and revel in the freedom of open waters without the usual influx of tourists. We understand that everyone’s idea of the perfect day is different, so allow us to give you a few pointers on some of our favourite Croatian destinations. The beauty of a motor boat rental in Croatia is that you have the freedom to choose and change your itinerary.

If you enjoy partying the night away and nursing your hangover in island paradise, Split is the one for you. During the day, this timeworn city displays ancient ruins throughout, whereas by night, bars and clubs open bringing the party to life. There are many islands close by, including the party island of Hvar, and even a famous blue cave on the nearby island of Bisevo.

Šibenik is surrounded by olive tree plantations which cultivate high-quality olive oil and vineyards which produce the finest Croatian wines, definitely worth a try if you choose to rent your motorboat in this historic coastal city. Visit St. James’ Cathedral and St. Michael’s Fortress where you can explore 14th century and medieval architecture. If you are looking for a paramount picture for your instagram, the fortress has 360 degree views featuring the Kornati islands. The beauty of doing a Croatia motor boat charter is the freedom to move around surrounding islands and cities.

Its old town, cosy cafes and swanky bars are impressive, but above all, Zadar’s solar panel powered dance floor and sea organ are probably its most incredible attractions. Relax by the sea as you listen to the sound of whale song created by the waves.

The most beautiful Croatian islands make island hopping an ideal plan for your group on your motor boat charter. The first glamourous island to vsiit is Hvar, flavoured by wealthy Croatian’s luxury holiday enthusiasts and party goers. If you love history and architecture, then next on your island hopping itinerary is Korcula. This historical island has its own type of wine made from Posip grapes which is a must try for our wine lovers!

Then on your motor boat rent in Croatia, why not go to Elaphiti Islands! An archipeleg, the islands are an ideal escape for a quiet base far from the city. Plus it is close to Dubrovnik so you might as well stop there too! Then on your Croatia motor boat holidays there is Brac which is home to the famous beach Slatni Rat! 50 minutes from Split, this island is full of isolated bays, cobblestone streets and romantic squares for you to indulge in. A Croatia motorboat rent will allow you to move through these islands and find your perfect personal beach.

For our natural history lovers, Brijuni islands is a must go. Out of the sixteen islands you can only visit two of them, which shows the 5,000 years of natural and human history on display including prehistoric times.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet, then we recommend taking your Croatia motor boat rental to Dugi Otok. This unspoiled and stunnfingly beautiful island is perfect for relaxing in peace and quiet. You can visit many of the picturesque villages and beaches.
