Join Ocean Springs Yacht Club

How to join osyc.

Please Review the options below and submit the new member application form . Once your application for OSYC membership has been reviewed and approved by the OSYC Board of Governors, you’ll be on board!

MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL:

The OSYC Board of Directors reviews and approves all new members. Our committee is very responsive and meets monthly to review applications for membership. You will be advised immediately upon acceptance and will then be entitled to full member privileges.

OSYC Membership Options

Regular Membership Includes full voting privileges and family membership.

Initiation fee: $500
Monthly dues: $100
Prepaid house charge: $25.00 (Used to pay for meals, events, food or beverage service at the club; please regularly stop by the club and enjoy events, meals, or beverages to use your club, or lose the charge)

Corporate Membership Same as Class A membership (one A/C membership per member family) except that a corporate membership may transfer from one corporate member to another (within a Corporation) without additional initiation fees. The Corporation is responsible for all bills/charges incurred by its corporate members. Corporations may have unlimited member families (paying initiation fees and monthly dues for each), but each Corporation is limited to a maximum of three votes.

Military Membership Non-Voting, includes family, limited to a maximum of five (5) years; then must convert to Class A.

Initiation fee: 50% of Class A

Non-resident Membership Non-Voting membership that includes family. Residence must be 25 miles from OSYC or any other Yacht Club unless a current membership is held in another Yacht Club.)

Monthly dues: 50% of Class A
Prepaid house charge: None

Intermediate Membership Non-Voting membership limited to single applicants between the ages of 18-26).

Such a fun place to come and relax ! The food is excellent and the views are beautiful.

Best Shrimp nachos on the MS coast!! We were there setting up for a wedding for a family member so we were super hungry, having skipped right over lunch. There were two of these Shrimp Nachos ordered and they were both devoured in a short time!! Just thinking about them makes me want some! Our team really enjoyed working with the staff for this wedding-and I gotta shout out to Trish and Carl! They are the real MVPs at OSYC!! Everybody was super helpful and friendly with getting what we needed and set up for this special wedding event! Thank you OSYC for helping us to have an amazing wedding weekend!

Ocean Springs Yacht Club plays host to national Hobie 16 North American regatta

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. -- Dozens of colorful sails dotted the waves across Biloxi Bay this week as the Ocean Springs Yacht Club played host to Hobie 16 National Qualifying Regatta.

Nearly 50 competitors from 25 different states came to Ocean Springs Front Beach for the week-long event. Competition began Monday and by Friday morning they had completed 16 races, with the hopes of getting another 2-3 races in before the official end of racing at 3 p.m.

“To get in 18 races in five days -- these people are tired,” said Robbie Holstead, the OSYC Fleet Captain. “This is an extreme sport. There’s a lot of work going on.”

Holstead explained the event was originally slated to be hosted by a Michigan yacht club, but the date they selected conflicted with a world competition.

“They contacted us late last year/early this year and asked us if we could pull it off,” Holstead said. “Fortunately for us, (OSYC members) Michael McNeir and Krista Vind have won four Hobie 16 North American events in this region, so we had a blueprint for it. All we had to do was get our volunteers, get our ducks in a row, and off we go.”

The winner of the OSYC event will automatically qualify for the world championships. Similar events are held across the country, sponsored by Hobie, and the winners plus the other top 10-12 boats, by points, will be the U.S. representatives at the world championships.

“This gives us a lot of credibility,” Holstead said of OSYC hosting such an event. “We area a catamaran sailing club. We’ve hosted other events, but this is the first time we’ve hosted the Hobie 16 championships and this will probably end up being the largest regatta in the world this year, in terms of boat numbers.”

Holstead said the number of competitors would typically have been higher, upwards of 60-65, but the competitors who normally come from Canada did not this year, and competitors from the Caribbean are focused on this year’s Olympic competition for their respective nations.

Of course, hosting any kind of outdoor event -- especially one on the water -- in south Mississippi in June can be a dicey proposition, given the fickle nature of the local weather, but Mother Nature smiled on the OSYC and the sailors.

“We’ve been fortunate with the weather all week,” Holstead said. “We’ve had low (winds) of 7-8 knots, with gusts up to 17-18. We’ve been very fortunate. The wind gods were good to us this week.”

Additionally -- and perhaps surprisingly -- no races had to be canceled for rain or lightning. There was a delay in racing Thursday, but it wasn’t due to weather.

“The only thing we’ve had to cancel any races for was the Billfish (Classic),” Holstead said of the annual fishing tournament hosted by the Golden Nugget Casino across the bay from the OSYC.

Holstead said there were so many fishing boats across the bay that when they started departing for deep waters Thursday morning, it was decided to keep the Hobies on the beach for a while.

“It was like a wake tsunami,” said Ben Moore of the waves which were churned up by the fishing boats making their way out Thursday. Moore is a retired park ranger, and avid sailor, who helped man the safety boat for the regatta all week.

“So we kept ‘em on the beach until the fishing boats cleared out,” Holstead added.
