The 60.35m/198' classic yacht 'Aqua Blu' by the British shipyard Brooke Marine offers flexible accommodation for up to 30 guests in 15 cabins and features interior styling by Bjorn Johansson.

Iconic yacht Aqua Blu cuts a fine figure in the water, showcasing elegant lines and an array of spacious living areas, this yacht is sure to turn heads wherever she goes. She is equipped with a spa and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Built in 1968, Aqua Blu offers guest accommodation for up to 30 guests in 15 suites comprising a master suite, one VIP cabin, eight double cabins and five twin cabins. There are 20 beds in total, including 10 king and 10 singles. She is also capable of carrying up to 25 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Keeping comfortable and entertained on Aqua Blu is easy thanks to the available amenities including a serene luxury spa, for the utmost in relaxation. Maintain your fitness routine and work out in the well-equipped gym and retreat to the deck jacuzzi and soak up the scenery.

Aqua Blu benefits from some excellent features to improve your charter including Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, should you wish. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by 4 x Lister Blackstone engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 5,758 nautical miles from her 137,000 litre fuel tanks. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Aqua Blu knows a thing or two about fun on the water, with a selection of water toys and accessories for you and your guests to enjoy whilst on charter. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Another excellent feature are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Discover the world beneath the surface of the ocean with the dive gear and compressor. If that isn't enough Aqua Blu also features canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. When it comes to Tenders, Aqua Blu has you covered - with two tenders, including a 4.2m/13'9" Zodiac Rescue Boat.

Aqua Blu’s tastefully paired brass-and-ivory interior theme combines well with the generous and inviting indoor and outdoor social spaces, including a sun deck with outdoor seating, lounge and barbecue. The bridge deck offers a Jacuzzi, outdoor lounge, spa and workout zone. Dine outside on the Forecastle deck that also includes an indoor bar, library and TV room. Activities Aboard Aqua Blu

Aqua Blu combines modern luxury with active adventures for a novel means of cruising Indonesia. She carries SCUBA diving gear, including regulators, buoyancy compensators, computers, gauges and tanks, along with a dedicated 8-guest tender used exclusively for diving activities. Divers and snorkelers alike are equipped with a full-body wetsuit, mask, snorkel and fins. Above water, the ship’s onboard kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and two other 16-guest tenders are the ticket to seek out stunning marine wildlife in comfort and safety. A staircase off the swim step improves on the ladder offered by most ships, enabling easy in and out of the water. Finally, the spa, Jacuzzi and exercise zone enable Aqua Blu’s guests to maintain fitness routines and relax after a day of exploration.

Central to every Aqua Blu cruise is the element of five-star dining with a menu created and overseen by a renowned chef who is supported by Consulting Chef Benjamin Cross—a renowned Australian culinarian who will be orchestrating the menu for a uniquely Indonesian-inspired five-star dining experience. Trained by Sydney’s best culinary talents, Cross has masterfully created over 100 recipes that showcase a journey of refined flavors drawn from the ancient Spice Route, relying on local ingredients such as nutmeg and cloves; as well as a variety of seafoods like the giant Papuan prawns sourced from the Indonesian seas.

This fast, powerful vessel – with a grand legacy as a former British Naval Explorer and private yacht of an aristocratic European family – is the first of its kind in Indonesia. The immaculate 15-suite vessel can sail further, faster and in greater safety and comfort, and is bringing a brand-new cruise experience to the pristine East Indonesia archipelago.

The four-deck long-range explorer, which was fully refurbished in 2019 and is tended by 25 crew, is available as a cabin cruise or full charter and offers seven- and 12-night itineraries in Komodo National Park, the Spice Islands, and Raja Ampat.

Each one of Aqua Blu’s 15 suites offers a private sanctuary on the East Indonesia seas. Plush carpets, neutral colors, and luxurious finishes lend an opulent sense of home to every journey, creating a restful space in which to unwind. 

The suites, which range in size from 14 to 34 square meters, were conceptualized with modern luxury and comfort in mind by renowned Dutch yacht designer Cor D. Rover. The en-suite bathrooms feature overhead rain-showers, and the amenities provided are all organic.

Shared Spaces

Aqua Blu offers a variety of places in which to relax, catch up with friends, or where to take in the surroundings. The stylish Sky Lounge Bar is on the top deck is a fantastic place from which to watch the sunset, cocktail in hand. The stately dining room allows guests to be seated at various tables, creating an intimate atmosphere, while the Alfresco Dining Area on the Forecastle Deck provides ample opportunity to mingle with guests. 

With its 360-degree views, wrap-around lounge sofas, and outdoor seating the Sun Deck enables guests to make the most of Indonesia’s long, sunny days and balmy evenings, while the spa, Jacuzzi, and daybeds allow an opportunity for deep relaxation and rejuvenation while onboard. The library, TV room, and various lounge areas offer ample opportunity to unwind.

Aqua Blu is fully equipped for adventure. She carries three 16-seater speedboats, which are used to take guests on excursions to some of the islands, and on diving trips too. From diving and snorkeling to kayaks and paddleboards, Aqua Blu has an extensive range of watersports equipment on board.

The yacht has an onboard therapist and spa, where deeply relaxing Balinese massage and aromatherapy treatments are offered. There is also an outdoor exercise area, for guests who want to maintain their fitness while enjoying a view of the spectacular East Indonesian landscapes.

Aqua Blu is renowned for the impeccable onboard dining experience. Inspired by local ingredients and dishes, the varied menu shows the influence of Indonesian, European, and Mediterranean cuisines. Fresh, sustainably caught seafood is a popular highlight.

Destinations

Aqua Blu unlocks some of the Earth’s most intriguing destinations, taking guests on voyages into the beautiful, remote archipelagos of East Indonesia. MV Aqua Blu cruise ship is a premium yacht designed by Cor D Rover BV ( Amsterdam Holland -based yacht exterior and interior design studio). The ship was previously named HMS Beagle (British Royal Navy survey vessel built in 1968) and drydock reconstructed and refurbished in 2018-2019 before entering service for the new shipowner Aqua Expeditions. Aqua Blu's fleet mates are the riverboats Aqua Nera (2020, on Peruvian Amazon), Aqua Mekong (2014, on Mekong River) and Aria Amazon (2010, Peruvian Amazon).

Scheduled for inauguration in November 2019, this is first coastal cruise ship of Aqua Expeditions as well as the first long-range expedition-class cruise yacht permanently based in Southeast Asia's East Indonesian Archipelago. Currently, the top-luxury ship is owned by Aqua Expeditions (2008-founded, Singapore -based cruise travel company).

This vessel has the highest classifications - by ISM (International Safety Management), RINA Group (Registro Italiano Navale) and SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea). The ship features Quantum Zero Speed stabilizers providing comfort while in motion (cruising) or at rest (anchored or berthed). The vessel also has two Zodiac 4.2m RIB rescue boats (powered by Mariner 25 HP engines), modern radio comms, satellite phone, separate battery pack (emergency power), flares/signals, automatic defibrillator. Each cabin is fitted with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

Shipboard facilities and amenities

Launch boats (used for passenger tendering, landings and shoreside excursions) include two Alson Flash 750 (powered Evinrude E-Tech 225hp engines) with capacity 10 passengers each. Also complimentary are provided sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, diving and snorkeling gear (scuba tanks, masks, fins). Certified guides lead all diving tours.

Rarely found on yachts facilities is the Sun Deck's outdoor plunge pool and the Spa (treatment rooms for massages). Among the 25 crew are Cruise Director, Dive Instructor and four tour guides.

• Sun Deck (deck 5) offers 360-degree sea views and houses an outdoor BBQ/barbecue seating area with wraparound lounge sofas and umbrellas. This is also the location for morning yoga classes, evening grill parties and night stargazing.
• Bridge Deck (deck 4) houses the Navigation Bridge (aka Wheelhouse), an aft-located outdoor Jacuzzi (large whirlpool hot-tub), lounge beds, Gym (with modern fitness equipment) and indoor Spa (Balinese massages and aromatherapy provided by certified staff). Bridge Deck also houses Category 1 cabins.
• Forecastle Deck (deck 3) houses the Sky Lounge Bar, Library and TV Room. Meals are served at the aft-located alfresco dining and seating area. Forecastle Deck also houses Category 1 cabins.
• Main Deck (Lobby/deck 2) houses the ship entrance, Reception (24-hour Guest Services Desk), Dining Room/Bar Salon (serving refined Indonesian-inspired cuisine), as well as cabins categories 2 and 3.
• On Lower Deck (deck 1) are located all staff/crew cabins as well as passenger cabins in categories 2 and 3.

mv Aqua Blu cruise prices are inclusive of all meals onboard, all excursions, beverages (non-alcoholic, house wine, beer), the transfers to/from the boat (with the recommended flights).

The Aqua Blu yacht has a total of 15 oceanview/outside staterooms across 4 decks and in 3 suite grades. The ship has 2 "family cabins" (with interconnecting doors) - room pairs 401-402 and 301-302. All cabins are with modern furnishing, large wardrobe, electronic safe box (in the closet), wall-mounted reading lamps, bedside cabinets with lamps, premium laminate flooring, en-suite bathroom (walk-in shower, overhead rain shower, natural organic bath- and hair products).

• Category 1 (sized 25-31 m2 / 270-335 ft2) includes 5 suites, 2 of which are on Bridge Deck and 3 on Forecastle Deck. These suites are with King-size bed (non-convertible to twins), interior sofa, lounge area (in select cabins), walk-in closet (room 302), large round windows (room 301) or large rectangular windows (all other Category 1 suites).
• Category 2 (sized 22-31 m2 / 235-335 ft2) is with porthole (oval-shaped non-opening window and includes 7 suites, 4 of which are on Main Deck and 3 on Lower Deck. These suites are with King-size bed (convertible to twins), interior sofa, lounge area (select cabins).
• Category 3 (sized 12-14 m2 / 130-150 ft2) includes 3 suites, 1 of which is on Main Deck and 2 are on Lower Deck. These suites are with round-shaped small porthole windows (non-opening) and twin beds (non-convertible to double).

MV Aqua Blu Indonesia cruise itinerary

Aqua Expeditions Aqua Blu cruises through East Indonesia's islands, leaving from homeports Ambon (Maluku Islands) , Labuan Bajo and Maumere (Flores Island, Nusa Tenggara), and Sorong (Raja Ampat). The ship is deployed in the region for year-round operations.

The 7-day coastal cruise itineraries primarily serve 3 destinations - Raja Ampat (December through February, with 10 departures per year), Bali-Komodo National Park (April through September, 23 departures), and Ambon and Spice/Maluku Islands (October through November, 7 departures).

With Aqua Blu, Aqua Expeditions customers can travel to some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the Coral Triangle - tropical waters and islands part of Indonesia, Malaysia, PNG, Philippines, Solomon Islands and East Timor. Select 12-day cruise tour itineraries are operated with 4 departures per year, each featuring a different/custom-made route. Prices for 7- and 12-day Aqua Blu cruises range between USD 7525-16475 per person (double occupancy cabin rates).

In February 2021, Aqua Expeditions partnered with NIHI Sumba (Luxury Beach Resort Indonesia/Private Villas) to create an exotic cruisetour to East Indonesia's remote islands and seas. Departing from homeport Benoa Bali , the superyacht Aqua Blu combines a 4-night private charter cruising in Komodo National Park (Lesser Sunda Islands) with a 3-night stay at NIHI Sumba's luxury villas. The itinerary visits Sumba Island , Moyo Island , Gili Lawah Island (diving), Padar Island (hiking) and Horseshoe Bay (between Pulau Rinca and Pulau Kode). At NIHI Sumba, Aqua Expeditions offers activities like paddling on Wanukaka River, mountain biking in the jungles, swimming with horses, shore rides (Nihiwatu Beach).

Following the pause due to the COVID crisis, the yacht restarted operations on April 30, 2022, with 7-night roundtrips from Bali/Benoa to Komodo NP.

In November 2018, Aqua Expeditions announced increasing fleet's size by 150% and expanding company's operational destinations with a 2-year, USD 28 million (EUR 25m) investment plan backed by Bison Capital (US-based private equity firm). In a written statement, Galli Zugaro (company's CEO) announced that the investment allows Aqua Expeditions to introduce coastal cruises and new adventure travel destinations.

The superyacht Aqua Blu was originally designed and constructed as the British navy vessel "HMS Beagle" (HMS stands for "Her Majesty Ship") of the so-called Bulldog Class. Of this series were produced all 4 units - HMS Bulldog (A317, launched July 12, 1967, sold in 2001), HMS Beagle (A319, launched September 7, 1967, sold 2002), HMS Fox (A320, launched November 6, 1967, sold 1989) and HMS Fawn (A325, launched February 29, 1968, sold 1991).

Shipbuilder was the Lowestoft England-based Brooke Marine (aka Brooke Yachts). The shipbuilding company was founded in 1874 (as JW Brooke & Co) and became defunct in 1992. Each of the Bulldog-Class ships had midship-located galley/kitchen (deck 2), wardroom (mess hall for officers above midshipman), Senior Rates Mess. On deck 3 were all crew cabins (all air-conditioned) including one fore-located mess with 28 beds (for Junior Ratings), 2-bed cabins (for Senior Rates) and 4 cabins for Officers.

HMS Beagle and the 3 other sisterships were all designed for overseas service, but actually spent most of their military careers off the UK coast patrolling the shores not covered by side-scan sonars. These 4 warships were eventually decommissioned and sold to private companies. Two were converted into luxury motor yachts - HMS Beagle (IMO 4902921) into Aqua Blu (MMSI 355596000), and HMS Fox (IMO 8728359) into Toy Heaven (MMSI 518415000). HMS Beagle was decommissioned on February 7, 2002, and sold in March 2002 for GBP 750,000 to a Poole England -based yacht company. In 2002, the boat was refitted into a 4-deck private yacht (with capacity 22 passengers plus 20 crew)) and renamed "MY Titan" (MY="Motor Yacht").

Onboard experience.

Aqua Blu has an impressive capacity of up to 32 guests accommodated in 15 cabins. On the bridge deck lies an inter-connecting master and double cabin.The forecastle deck comprises another inter-connecting master and double cabin, as well as a further double cabin. The main deck hosts five cabins, including two doubles and three twins. On the lower deck are three double cabins and two twin cabins. All cabins offer natural light, with cabins on the three top decks offering large windows, while the lower cabin cabins have portholes.

Communal spaces.

On the main deck, guests will find an expansive salon and separate dining room, with outdoor seating on the aft. The forecastle deck has a library and TV room as well as the sky lounge bar, with further outdoor dining and seating on the aft. The spa and Jacuzzi are located on the bridge deck, while the sun deck features a large lounge bench and sun loungers. Aqua Blu is equipped with diving and snorkelling gear, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, two zodiacs, a gym, laundry facilities and complimentary wifi where available.

With five decks and ample indoor and outdoor spaces, there is plenty of room to spread out on Aqua Blu. The contemporary interiors feature smooth wooden floors and brass and ivory accents throughout, while the outdoor living areas offer endless views of the ocean and passing scenery. On the main deck there is a stylish indoor salon, separate dining room, and an outdoor seating area. The forecastle deck has a lounge, library, and TV room inside and an outdoor dining and lounging area, plus the sky lounge bar. The bridge deck is where you will find the spa, Jacuzzi and exercise zone, and the sun deck has loungers, a lounge sofa, and a BBQ.

Each of the 15 cabins on Aqua Blu was individually designed to be a serene sanctuary at sea. All have windows or portholes for natural light, ensuite bathrooms with rain showers and organic bath products, and modern luxuries like air-conditioning and closets with electronic safes. On the bridge there is a master suite that connects to a double room. The forecastle deck also has an interconnecting master and double room and another double cabin. On the main deck there are two double rooms and three twin rooms, and on the lower deck there are three double rooms and two twin rooms.

Facilities & Services

The crew of 25 on Aqua Blu include a cruise director, dive instructor, English speaking guides, and a team of talented chefs who prepare gourmet dishes from a menu designed by Michelin-starred chef David Thompson. Guests also have access to top-of-the-line water sports equipment like stand-up paddle boards, diving and snorkelling gear and kayaks. 8 Day - Raja Ampat

Embarkation

PM : Arrive at Sorong for a warm welcome. After that transfer to Sorong Harbour to your floating house. Board Aqua Blu and begin exploration of Raja Ampat with a cruise to Mioskon Island as dinner is served.

Mioskon Island & Kabui Bay

AM: Awake to the beauty of MioskonIsland. Take an easy dive and snorkel excursion.

PM : Afternoon tour on tenders or kayak of ‘The Passage’ –a narrow passage between Waigeo and Gam Island that Alfred Russell Wallace travelled through in 1860. Enjoy the mangrove views and catch sight of saltwater crocodiles, hawksbill turtles and hornbillsbefore returning to Aqua Blu for sundowners and dinner.

Cape Kri & Yangeffo Island

AM : Rise in the morning to birdsong for an early tender tour of the magnificent karsts around Kabui Bay. Enjoy breakfast while cruising to Cape Kri. Snorkel or dive at Cape Kri – a dive site which holds the world record for most species spotted in a single 90-minute dive.

PM : Arrival at Yangeffo Island, with an exhilarating afternoon dive excursion at the Mayhem reef or a sunset cocktail tender tour of the mangroves. Dine underneath the stars back onboard.

Aljui Bay & Wofoh Island

AM : Early departure to Aljui Bay and an eye-opening visit to a pearl farm.

Wayag Island

Horseshoe Bay & Pink Beach

AM : After a morning sailing through a spectacular sea passage, arrive in Horseshoe Bay, a dramatic curvature of land that is the remains of an ancient volcano caldera.

PM : Visit sea eagles' and Komodo dragon’s favorite haunts aboard Aqua Blu's skiffs or choose to dive or swim.In the late afternoon, the iconic Pink Beach awaits. Trek, witness the flight of bats or visit the local village. Or simply relax on the beach.

Loh Buaya & Linta Strait

AM : Discover Komodo National Park's largest Komodo Dragon population on land at Loh Buaya.

PM : In the afternoon discover Linta Strait, a famous spot for drift snorkeling and diving. Large pelagic fish are very common as well as manta rays, giant trevallies and big schools of barracuda.

AM: Depart Linta Strait anchorage for Labuan Bajo and disembark for your outbound flight.

8 Day - Komodo to Bali

PM : Arrive at Labuan Bajo to a warm welcome. Board Aqua Blu and sailto Gili Lawa as the sun sets.

AM : Explore Gili Lawa’s expansive beaches and shallow reefbays, which are ideal for kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding. Meanwhile, diving and snorkeling spots offer the chance to spot turtles and sharks.

PM : Arrive to a warm welcome in Ambon and board Aqua Blu at LahaBay, a famous muck diving site. There are also opportunities for trekking and birdwatching inland.

AM : Early morning, depart for the island outpost of Saparua, sailing along the scenic north coast of Ambon. Disembark en route at the coastal town of Hila to explore the old Dutch fortification, Fort Amsterdam.

PM : Continue onto Sarapua, where a host of water activities await. Discover local pottery-making at Ouw village, visit a local market, see European relics, explore bird habitats or go diving before departing Sarapua for an overnight crossing to Banda Islands.

Banda Island & Banda Neira

AM : Approach the Banda Islands as the sun rises, greeted by Kora-Kora war canoes as the boat enters the harbor.

PM : Stroll through history at the Dutch Fort Belgica on Banda Neira, once the most hotly contested island in the world in the 16th and 17th century, and learn about the colorful story of the Old World spice trade.

Banda Neira & Gunung Api

AM : Spend the day exploring the oldest nutmeg plantations in the world, learning about the cultivation and history of the spice. Hike the active volcano of Gunung Banda Api.

PM : In this remote part of Indonesia, experience local life with traditions unchanged for decades before departing Banda Harbour at night.

Pulau Manuk

AM : Savour a sunrise breakfast on board against the backdrop of 300-metre tall cliffs of Pulau Manuk, a volcanic island rising 3 kilometres from the seabed. This is a haven for fish-hunting birds, as well as sea snakes and reef sharks flocking to enjoy the area’s underwater thermal springs.

PM : After sundown, cruise northwards to Pulau Run, a historic island traded by the British for Manhattan in 1667.

AM : Arrive at Pulau Run, the westernmost of the Banda Islands, at sunrise. Swim, fish, snorkel and dive in the crystal-clear waters, or go on village tours, trekking and birding.

PM : Attempt to search for the ruins of an old British fort before arriving at a pristine beach where a cocktail party awaits.

Nusa Laut & Molana

AM : On the north side of Nusa Laut, bike through the scenic fishing villages of Amethand Akon. This is also home of the dugong, the Southeast Asian cousin of the American manatee and a vulnerable species.

PM : Cruise to Molana Island, a small but heavily forested island with fantastic reefs.

AM: Awake to the bustle of Ambon and disembark after a sumptuous breakfast for your outbound flight.

8 Day - Spice Islands & West Papua Expedition

PM: Arrive to a warm welcome in Ambon. Board Aqua Blu and enjoy a delicious dinner onboard, curated by renowned chef Benjamin Cross. Settle into your cabins and bid farewell to the harbor as you set sail along the scenic northern coast of Ambon.

AM: Approach the Banda Islands at sunrise, greeted by Kora-Kora war canoes at the harbor. Stroll through history at the Dutch Fort Nassau on Banda Neira – which used to be the most hotly contested island in the world back in the 16th and 17th century. Walk through ancient passageways now bustling with modern life, yet still showcasing a treasure trove of history.

PM: After lunch, head out for a snorkeling or diving excursion, and end the evening with a sundowner at Fort Belgica.

Koon, Gorong, and Watubela

AM & PM: Spend the day exploring three remote island groups, defined by their pristine beaches, sandy atolls, and colorful coral reefs. Divers and snorkelers can look forward to visiting ‘Too Many Fish’, an aptly named site with plenty of reef fish sightings as well as occasional pop-ins by leopard sharks and hammerhead sharks.

Teluk Sebakor

AM: Channel your inner Indiana Jones at Teluk Sebakor, a marine and terrestrial wonderland tucked in the Bomberai Peninsula. This region is a prime spot for kayaking and tender rides along mangrove bays that dot the eastern shoreline.

PM: Over in the north, we get to marvel at a collection of karst limestone islands, as well as a shoreline cave inhabited by a colony of screeching bats.

AM & PM: The central attraction of Momon is a spectacular waterfall that thunders directly into the sea from the high forests above. Guests who are feeling adventurous may jump into the ocean and swim to the waterfall’s plunge pool for a refreshing, cold shower. Momon also features fantastic snorkeling and kayaking spots along the jungle-fringed shoreline with a reasonable chance of spotting quirky hornbills up in the trees. Endemic forest kangaroos can occasionally be sighted in the wooded areas as well.

Cape Papisol

AM & PM: Cape Papisol offers a panoramic view of the Bomberai Peninsula from its forested outback which rises to over 1,300 meters. Starting from the island’s magnificent white-sand beach, guests can embark on a trek up-river to a spectacular waterfall close to the Karawawi village. This area is characterized by gusty winds and mist – a micro-weather system created by the river plunging from high above into a rocky pool.

AM & PM: Head out early in the morning for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim with whale sharks in crystal-clear waters that make up Triton Bay. This region features sublime dive sites, home to a wealth of rare marine life and reefs decorated with some of the finest soft corals in the world. Over on land, the scenery consists of forest-covered limestone cliffs and prehistoric artwork high up on the rocky walls.

AM: After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to Aqua Blu and disembark in the port town of Kaimana.

8 Day - West Papua & Asmat Tribe Expedition

PM: Arrive to a warm welcome in Kaimana. Board Aqua Blu and enjoy a delicious dinner onboard, curated by renowned chef Benjamin Cross. Settle into your cabins and bid farewell to the harbor as you set sail from the port town of Kaimana.

AM: Head out early in the morning for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim with whale sharks in crystal-clear waters that make up Triton Bay. This region features sublime dive sites, home to a wealth of rare marine life and reefs decorated with some of the finest soft corals in the world.

PM: Over on land, the scenery consists of forest-covered limestone cliffs and prehistoric artwork high up on the rocky walls.

Sailing the Arafura Sea

AM & PM: Spend the day exploring the luxurious Aqua Blu and enjoy its variety of social spaces – a jacuzzi, spa and exercise area, sky lounge bar, and a sun deck offering panoramic views of the vast seas. Gain a deeper insight into Indonesian culture through cuisine from world-class chef Benjamin Cross, who draws inspiration from the region’s fabled spice routes.

Agats & the Asmat

AM & PM: Arrive in the uncharted Asmat region – a remote part of West Papua which very few have ever had the opportunity to visit. On board private speedboats, we head down the waterways and deep into the jungle to visit traditional villages inhabited by Asmat’s namesake tribe. Known for their rich heritage and traditions, the Asmat people have a complex social and religious system with a focus on ancestor worship and the use of rituals to maintain the balance of the natural world.

AM & PM: Today, we continue our exploration of Asmat and gain a deeper insight into the lives of the locals. Along with our expert guides, guests will have the chance to visit the Asmat tribe’s communal houses, which serve as the center of Asmat social, religious, and political life, and are used for significant cultural events and rituals. There will be time to observe the tribe’s unique arts and crafts and witness their traditional dances.

AM & PM: Another day at sea offers the chance to relax, unwind, and share stories with your fellow explorers about the two incredible days spent in Asmat. Our knowledgeable guides will be around to answer questions and share more about this remote region which remains largely undocumented. To get yourself back in form for another day of adventure, indulge in a traditional Balinese massage at our on-board spa.

Momon and Cape Papisol

AM: Arrive at Momon in the morning, and head out to see the spectacular Kitikiti waterfall. Guests who are feeling adventurous may jump into the ocean and swim to the waterfall’s plunge pool for a refreshing, cold shower. Momon also features fantastic snorkeling and kayaking spots along the jungle-fringed shoreline, as well as the chance to spot endemic kangaroos in the wooded areas.

PM: Over on Cape Papisol, guests can embark on an up- river hike through the forested outback for a stunning view of the Bomberai Peninsula.

13 Day - Raja Ampat to Spice Islands

PM: Arrive at Sorong for a warm welcome. After that transfer to Sorong Harbour to your floating house. Board on Aqua Blu and cruise to Gam Island as the sunset.

Birie Island

AM : Arrival in Birie, a group of islands, bays and lagoons that lie just off the coast of north Batanta. Discover mangrove-fringed bays and plenty of wildlife en route to the spectacular waterfall in Batanta mainland.

PM : Ship will cruise eastwards towards Sorong during dinner.

Dayang Island

AM : Embark on a morning trek with our guides to look for birds of paradise in the lush forest. Dayang island is known for plenty of marine life, especially manta rays.

PM : Snorkeling is excellent at Wai along the bordering reef systems. For adventurous divers, explore the sunken wreckage of a WW2 P47D fighter plane and the beautiful reefs and sea-mounts of Tapok.

Aljui Bay & Pulau Pef

AM : Visit a pearl farm in Aljui Bay.

PM : Cruise to Pulau Pef and Yangello for snorkeling and watersports in the afternoon. Explore hidden lagoons and karst limestone islets aboard our tenders or kayaks.

PM: Arrive at Labuan Bajo to a warm welcome. Board Aqua Blu and cruise to Gili Lawa Daut as the sun sets.

Ropa & Kelimutu Volcano Lake Excursion

AM : Coloured lakes inside the three calderas of a long dormant volcano are on impressive display at the Kelimutu volcano, an otherworldly series of geologic cauldrons. The twisting road to the summit winds through incredible forests and crisscrosses mountain streams.

PM : Continue with the excursion and then back to ship.

North Lembata

AM : Snorkel the extensive reef complex of Bacatan or dive at the western end of the end for its specutacular deep drop-off.

PM : Trek or bike along a country lane between two villages in Lewoto. Enjoy a sumptous dinner onboard before departing North Lembata for an overnight crossing to Alor. 

Pantar & Alor

AM : Arrival in Alor, home to many picturesque fishing villages and surrounded by clear water over vibrant coral reefs that are a diver's and snorkeler's favorite.

PM : Centuries-old tradition comes to live in the traditional dance performances by the friendly Abui Tribe. Sail overnight to Wetar.

Wetar (The Forgotten Islands)

AM : There is plenty to do and see along this rarely visited rugged coastline of Wetar, which features impressive wall dives to meet sharks, schools of pelagic fishes, majestic manta and mobular rays. Other activities includes fishing and trekking.

PM : On this largest island of the Forgotten Islands, experience local life with traditions unchanged for decades.

Romang, Nyata & Telang (The Forgotten Islands)

AM : Dive around Nyata island in search of hammerhead sharks and rays. Romang and Nyata are not part of a National Park, therefore it is possible to fish here, both on the water and under the surface.

PM : Cruise south towards Telang for snorkeling and kayaking adventures. Spot rare silver-tip sharks here. 

AM : The ship arrives in Damar by day break. Trek the active volcanos of Damar or kayak on a lagoon at Terbang Seletan when tides are favourable.

This area is characterized by gusty winds and mist – a micro-weather system created by the river plunging from high above onto a rocky pool.

AM & PM: The magnificent land and seascape of Misool are said to be home to some of the finest reefs on the planet. Guests can embark on an easy trek on small, sandy coves and land-locked lakes. There will also be options to swim, snorkel, or kayak in the numerous blue pools hosting sparkling coral reefs.

AM & PM : The next destination on our expedition itinerary is the magnificent One Thousand Temples karst island and lagoon complex. There is plenty to see and do at this astonishing location, both on land and sea. Look forward to incredible cave systems, mysterious jellyfish lakes, unforgettable tender trips through karst island passages, and ancient rock art.

Dayang & Arborek

AM: We start the day with an early arrival at Dayang Island, known for its dazzling white-sand beach and extensive coral reefs.

PM: Over on Arborek Island, guests will have the opportunity to discover a plethora of marine life, especially Reef Manta Rays and, occasionally, Oceanic Manta Rays. Snorkelers and divers alike will revel in the close presence of such majestic creatures at the Manta Cleaning Station.

AM & PM: Today, we explore the forested landscapes and mangroves of Mayalibit Bay. Rise before the sun to embark on a spectacular excursion on a tender and canoe, followed by a hike to spot the rare birds of paradise on Waigeo Island. Test your sense of adventure and follow it up with a refreshing swim down the shimmering blue Kali Biru River.

AM: Wake up in Sorong and enjoy a delicious breakfast on board prior to disembarkation.

Main Deck - Design Suite 206; At 14sqm (154sqft), this twin cabin is a compact gem of a room with adequate storage. Two portholes allow a good amount of light to enter. The cabin comes with a generous bathroom with a porthole.

Lower Deck - Design Suites 102/103; At 14sqm (146sqft), these cabins are compact and cosy with two portholes, as well as small bathrooms – great for teens and singles.

Category II

These suites come with an ensuite area featuring a sofa and a chair for relaxation as guests sail through the view and its environs. The stylish bathrooms are equipped with hot water, a hairdryer, a cabinet, and a basket of toiletries for a refreshing shower. Cabins 201 and 203 can accommodate a third person as an extra sofa bed is optional.

Guests can expect luxury and comfort from these suites featuring an ensuite sitting area with a sofa and a chair, a spacious closet to fit ones belonging, and a safety box. It has interconnected suites (only 302 & 402) to accommodate bigger groups of friends or families traveling together. Cabins 101, 104, 105, 202, 204, 302, 303 and 402 can accommodate a third person as an extra sofa bed is optional.

To feed travelers’ latest appetite for adventure, one company is thinking small—very small, in fact. The Aqua Expeditions –owned Aqua Blu , a long-range luxury yacht, will have just 15 suites, all facing the sea, when it launches around the Indonesian archipelago in November. It will provide an intimate experience for those seeking outings in lush jungles or snorkeling and diving in pristine coral reefs, but who wouldn’t mind some spa time when they get back on board, thanks very much.

Previously, if you wanted to visit the archipelago by water, you’d charter a phinisi, a traditional two- or three-masted sailboat, that had been modified for leisure. But the Aqua Blu will add a different option: Aqua Expeditions, the company that runs the excellent river-touring Aria Amazon and Aqua Mekong , will apply its boutique sensibility to the first yacht to be permanently based in the area.

The ship has a storied history. Commissioned in 1968, it was one of four Bulldog-class vessels used by the Royal Navy as coastal surveyors. It ended up with Aqua, though, and underwent a luxury upgrade, with a nearly 1-to-1 crew-to-guest ratio, sundeck, lounge and bar, and outdoor Jacuzzi.

The nine itineraries are equally impressive: Komodo National Park, with its 5,000 giant lizards and protected waters; the Raja Ampat archipelago, 27,000 square miles of land and sea in the Coral Triangle; and Ambon and the Spice Islands, where nutmeg plantations lie within view of a volcano. Just pick whichever takes your fancy.

If you’re on the lookout for other intimate itineraries: The Coral Geographer , a 120-passenger ship from Australia-based Coral Expeditions, takes its first trip—from Singapore across the Indian Ocean to the Seychelles—in January 2021. A special overnight excursion to Sri Lanka includes a dusk safari at Yala National Park.

By 2020, the very luxe Ponant Explorers fleet will have added six ships that carry a max of 184 passengers each in 92 cabins. One standout feature, in addition to Hermès toiletries and a 24-hour butler: a lounge with a small bar with windows below the waterline, so you can scuba while staying bone-dry. The ships, all named for French explorers, will travel to the Bissagos Islands, the Maldives, Papua New Guinea and other locales polar and tropical alike.

Up to 12 guests can take Offshore Outpost’s Pacific Provider to the Sea of Cortez or Alaska, where, if you catch a salmon, they’ll prepare it for you on a grill. Life doesn’t get much fresher than that.

Aqua Blu’s 15 individually-designed sea-facing suites – in three cabin categories – brilliantly fuse contemporary style with her rich heritage. The vessel boast an impressive overall capacity of up to 30 guests. The master and double cabin on the bridge deck can be joined to form a two-room suite at the top of the ship. The remaining suites are located on the forecastle, main and lower deck. All cabins offer natural light, with cabins on the three top decks featuring large windows, while cabins on the lower deck have portholes.

Padar Island

Its picturesque coastline and green-capped hills are so iconic, they’re even featured on Indonesia’s 50,000 Rupiah note. The island brings together a unique landscape of three crescent-shaped beaches with pink, black, and white sands. It’s a rare sight you can look forward to on our cruises to Bali and the Komodo Islands.

Rinca Island

Komodo Island

Moyo Island

Situated between Bali and Komodo National Park, Moyo Island is a Nature Reserve generally unknown to most tourists and is best explored aboard our cruises from Bali. Featuring nature and marine habitats virtually untouched by outside influences, explorers are presented with a large variety of flora and fauna including Mata Jitu, a magical, cascading waterfall.

Weather & Rainfall

Unlike other parts of Indonesia, Komodo National Park has a drier climate with a shorter monsoon than the rest of Indonesia, owing to the dry air mass flowing from the Australian continent. This unique climatic condition has helped create the region’s dramatic savannah hills, which are often framed against a stunning blue sky in the dry months.

Aqua Blu sails this region from April to September every year, avoiding the harsh weather conditions which take over during the rest of the year. 

Most of the rainfall in the region occurs between December and March. In April, when the rain begins to subside, the savannah hills of the region are adorned in a vibrant green.

The average number of days with any rainfall in April is 9, before falling to 6 days in May, and 4 and 3 days in June and July respectively. With just 1 day of rain in August and September, there’s a chance you might experience clear skies all the way on a 7-night Aqua Blu journey in August and September!

Best time for wildlife spotting

Some of the most iconic species which inhabit Bali and the Komodo Islands can be spotted all-year-round. No matter when you book your Aqua Blu expedition, there’s a good chance that you will be able to encounter Komodo dragons and swim with whale sharks.

Other animals may wade in and out of the region depending on the time of the year. 

The months between April to June are when the Manta ray population is at its peak in the waters surrounding the Komodo Islands. Rays start migrating in July and don’t tend to return until November.

July and August offer some of the best underwater visibility, making them the ideal months to snorkel and dive alongside reef fish. 

Finally, September offers the rare opportunity to spot sperm whales in the ocean, however, these sightings involve a fair bit of luck.

Best time for active excursions

While sailing on Aqua Blu, guests can partake in a wide range of excursions including snorkeling, diving, hiking, kayaking, and skiff rides. These excursions are offered throughout all the months we sail Bali and Komodo, however, the experience can vary depending on the prevailing weather conditions. 

As the rainy season of Komodo National Park draws to a close in March, all of the savannah islands of the Park are decked in a pleasing shade of green in April. This is a great time to enjoy vibrant views of Horseshoe Bay after a hike uphill. 

Starting May, the landscape turns arid, returning to its signature savannah-like look. Underwater though, it’s a different story as the corals come to life with vivid colors and great visibility. 

In June and July, the underwater conditions remain spectacular with visibility stretching as far as 30 meters. The water’s at a relaxing 29-30 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal time for snorkeling and diving. 

The waters are a bit rougher in August and September, which can be an adventure of its own. Rest assured you’ll still be in utmost comfort on board Aqua Blu, with temperature-controlled interior spaces and technologically-advanced stabilizers to minimize any side-to-side movement of the ship.
