The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter. 

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean . 

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

• ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
• ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
• Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
• ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
• Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

• D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
• ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft 
• Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft. 

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

• ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA. 
• Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
• D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

• Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard. 
• Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
• You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

“We absolutely loved the trip!  The crew, partly manned by two brothers in the lead, was incredibly accommodating. The food was excellent. Highly capable in every way and knowledgeable of the region. The boat is immaculate, well equipped, luxurious and we would highly recommend to our friends. We especially miss Ivan as he kept us entertained too. Croatia is a delight. There were some good laughs. Muchachos in our pocket helped getu s through our vacation. We enjoyed all the ports of call, a wonderfull time water skiing and driving on the island Brač. We saw it all.

Dalmatino – 30.05.-06.06.2022

There isn’t a better way to visit Croatia and experience each of the islands than traveling on Dalmatino. The boat was stunning. The boat crew had the best service I have ever experienced. This trip will be very hard to top. We were directed to the best experiences on each island, food was absolutely delicious and beautiful at the same time. I would highly recommend this yacht and staff to anyone who has the opportunity to travel to Croatia!

I would give a six star as a vacation spot and a 100% satisfying rate. The staff was so helpful and so so nice. Food was over the top in presentation, variety and was delicious. The Captain chose just a perfect route through the islands, the right amount of village time as play time. I would do this trip every year on Dalmatino!

Trip of a lifetime! The boat is gorgeous, the food was amazing, the scenery & water were incredible and the staff-crew….what can I say?! You were friendly, fun, and took the many challenges of our group in stride (covid+,stomach viruses, etc.!) with a smile and a willingness to do what we needed to have an amzing week. (I mean…how many groups requested 5 full dinnera and 5 bowls of plain white rice? 😛 ) It was such a special week for us to spend with our adult children & our friends and it was made even better by the wonderful & attentive service we recived at every turn. I’m not sure we’ll manage to get the whole family over here again, but Jim & I are sure going to try! Thank you again for everything-you all work very hard and it shows and is very much appreciated! From the moment I stepped on this boat I was greated with smiles & genuine care. I have never had an experience such as this where I was treated like I was special. Each and every one of you made this week memorable and I will never forget it. Matea made sure our thunderstorm of a room was always inviting and shared her last hairtie with me so I could enjoy the water. Keke made sure I always had milk with dessert before even asking and kept us all in a good mood. To the chef who gave us a personal tour of the bars so we could experience the true culture. Rocco despite us leasing hi min the beginning made sure to act professional as always. Stipe on our day to the market gave us the submarine tunnel. Last but not leats, the Captain who ensure no matter the weather there was always a plan for fun in place. Overall, I wish I couls stay with you forever and I have never had such a wonderful time. Sincerly and truly, thank you from the botton of my heart. There i san open door for any of you at my home in Los Angeles. I hope to see you again one day. SS

I have no words to explain the marvelous adventure we have sailed with Captain Tom. It has been the upmost pleasure to embark in this journey around the Adriatic Sea with such a wonderful crew. Ivana is super attentive and dedicated to fulfilling the needs of all my fellow travelers who have stepped aboard Captain Tom’s deck. The sights seen could never be converged in the slightest. The sea was magical. The food was amazing. Everyday was a delight to my mouth. We cannot wait to come back next year. Thank you to the entire crew.

Altair – 08.2022

Carefree and a wonderful cruise down the Adriatic Mastercharter was the best Croatian travel agency I have dealt with in the last ten years. Ivana, Mirna and Mate are devout professionals who will tender to your every need. Ask a question and you will get an answer momentarily, if one of them is busy one of the others will respond. No detail is overlooked and everything is done to your satisfaction. They stay true to their motto which says “Everything is possible for one who believes”.

I wanted to charter a gulet for a family cruise and for my particular needs they suggested the Altair which turned out to be the perfect choice. The name Altair is derived from the bright star, aka Alpha Aquilae, which shines as the brightest star in the constellation Aquila the Eagle. It describes this gullet perfectly; it is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The crew is a family run affair; Captain Dare is a capable sailor and a wonderful host. His Dad Duje is a fantastic cook and a Captain in his own right and Dare’s sister Luce (Lucy) is a wonderful hostess and a do everything gal who will attend to your every need. Also there is Lovro, a very capable sailor who makes sure that the boat is securely tied, he will help you with all the heavy lifting, will provide you with the swimming toys once you are in the water and will watch over you while you swim.

The cruise down the Jadran (Adriatic Sea) was absolutely fantastic. We were in and out of secluded coves for swimming in the crystal clear water during the day and visited famous towns like Hvar, Korčula, Polače, Ston and others in the evening. It was a perfect combination of rest, relaxation and sightseeing.

I would like to take this opportnity to thank the crew once more for making me and my family feel like we were a part of their family and for providing us with a carefree, restfull, exciting and wonderfull experience. Special thanks goes out to my new friend Duje Junior (Dare’s son) who made our trip that much more enjoyable, this is from his new friend Brankec.

Corsario – 25 June 2022

We had the Best time in Corsario, aside from the amaizing places and smooth ride, the crew was so warm, dedicated and helpfull. Stand up padlle, water motor rides, snorkeling, biking and awesome more experiences we lived in this boat. Thank to this boat and the crew we could had an inforgivable family time! I hope we can come back and finish our travesy through Croatia. See you soon!!!

Romanca – 18.06.-25.06.2022

Global Rating: 5/5 (Excellent)

We travel often and far, and we have been around the world and had amazing experiences. But our vacation on the Romanca, chartered via MasterCharter, was truly unrivaled! Airline travel these days can be beyond hectic, and our vacation seemed to get off to the wrong start when the airline lost our luggage. Ivana (Mastercharter) and Andrea (owner of the Romanca) arranged a speedboat to take a passenger to get medication that had gone missing with the bags and PERSONALLY tracked our luggage down and had it hand-delivered to the boat as we were eating breakfast under sail. Additionally, a member of our party had a bicycle accident, and Marin (Romanca’s captain) was on location in minutes with the town’s doctor and sat with us through the process of going to the hospital and getting a few stitches, then offered to buy the injured person an ice cream, (because everyone knows when you get stitches, you get an ice cream). Despite our two mishaps, all 15 of our party fell madly in love with Croatia, the Adriatic, MasterCharter, and most specifically the Romanca and its crew. The Romanca is by far the prettiest wooden gullet on the Adriatic; you cannot help but share the pride of her crew as she sails into port. You can tie her up next to the largest, newest ship in any marina, and know you are the one privileged enough to call the Romanca home. Valentina and Mario knew everyone by name on the first morning and never forgot our food or drink preferences — my latte was being made before I could sit at the Romanca’s massive table. Victor is a world class chef and a true artist who goes out of his way to please everyone. He woke up in the middle of the night to feed the three of us who waited for the doctor to finish his work on our patient, and we got a beautiful steak with rice and salad, totally unexpected and above and beyond. Ivan, the first mate, went out with several of our younger “sailors” (as per our request) when they wanted to go to a club at midnight. He watched over us and protected us like family, even at the sacrifice of his night’s sleep. And Marin navigated us through it all, recommending phenomonal wineries, restaurants, and excursions on the islands. I’m not prone to write reviews, or be loquacious, but for this trip, I must! These people are so special and amazing; they find a magical way of outshining the scenery. That said, Croatia and her islands are not to be missed, their beauty is unparalleled and the experience is unmatched. Do yourself a favor, spend a week on the Romanca… just don’t book the weeks we want, we will be back!

IT IS HARD IN LIFE TO BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO EVER BE ABLE TO BE IN A POSITION TO BE ABLE TO VACATION ON A BOAT SUCH AS ANIMA MARIS. HOWEVER, IT IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCE THAT EXCEEDS ALL OF YOUR EXPECTATIONS.THIS TRIP WAS BEYOND WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. WE HOPED IT WOULD BE THIS WONDERFUL, BUT TO HAVE EACH DAY BE BETTER THAN THE DAY BEFORE HAS TRULY BEEN A DELIGHT. THE BOAT OF COURSE IS A WORK OF ART,A MIX OF MODERN YET STILL ROMANTIC. THE CABINS ARE SO SPACIOUS AND THE BATHROOMS AS WELL.NOVAK’S COOKING WAS SPECTACULAR AS WELL AS ALEXANDER. ANYTHING WE WANTED DELIVERED WHICH AS WE ALL KNOW IS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO. SONIA KEPT OUR CABINS AND LAUNDRY IMPECCABLE AND THE REST OF THE CREW WAS WITH US ON DECK TIME WE NEEDED ANYTHING AT ALL. THE LOADED THE WATER TOY INTO THE SEA EVERYDAY SO OUR KIDS COULD RIDE THE SEABOB FROM MORNING TILL NIGHT. THEY WATCHED CAREFULLY AS THEY FLIPPED OFF THE TOP DECK IN TO THE WATER. CAPTAIN MARIO ALWAYS FOUND US THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BAYS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PICKED THE BEST CREW. THEN WE CAME TO VICTORIA WHO ALL DAY, EVERYDAY MADE SURE WE HAD ANY DRINK OR SNACK WE WANTED. Captain Luka was very professional and helpful, his brother Damir and the chef were excellent too. I think the Steward, Ivor was a bit out of his depth as he was really a deck hand that had stood in for a Stewardess from what we learned, and whilst he tried hard, my only recommendation would be that an experienced stewardess would have added polish to the whole drinking and dining experience.

The basilica features outstanding mosaics and tiled illustration. The Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik is the second site on the list and represents a cultural mix of Northern Italy, Dalmatia and Tuscany of the 15th and 16th centuries. Trogir, situated northwest of Split boasts beautiful Romanesque churches and Venetian-era Renaissance and Baroque constructions. Split's Diocletian's Palace is another UNESCO monument and a historical complex built in the 3rd and 4th centuries by Roman emperor Diocletian. Moving onto the island of Hvar, although unknown to many tourist, Stari Grad Plain is also on the UNESCO list. This is an ancient stone wall that divides the land into twenty-four plots of grapes and olives, which have been continuously used for the past 2400 years. The Old City of Dubrovnik is also popular with discerning yacht charter tourists, with its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces, as well as fabulous atmosphere, lovely cafes, bars and a vibrant nightlife. The seventh UNESCO Heritage site are the Plitvice Lakes, located inland Croatia.

NATURAL PARKS IN CROATIA

Located on the western coast of Istria, National Park Brijuni consists of two larger and twelve smaller islands. Krka with its seven amazing waterfalls is another famous and popular national park in Croatia, which deserves a day-trip inland. In addition to the waterfalls, historical monuments such as the Franciscan monastery on the little island of Visovac and the Krka Orthodox monastery are also sought-after attractions for visitors. Renowned for peculiar karstic formations - Hajducki kukovi and Rozanski kukovi, the Northern Velebit National Park offers biggest selection of flora and fauna in Croatia. There is also a pothole Lukina Jama (Luka's pothole) or a lovely botanical garden to visit.

Northern Velebit National Park is a fantastic place for hiking and trekking, offering unparalleled views of the Kvarner islands from the trail. Plitvicka Jazera is perhaps the most famous Croatian National Park and only one of eight on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. The park is made up of sixteen small lakes joined by waterfalls and surrounded by dense forests. Plitvicka Jazera (or Plitvice Lakes) is located inland Croatia and can be visited on a day-trip. Another Croatian natural wonder is the Plaklenica National Park where yacht charterers with passion for hiking and tracking will find their peace. Plaklenica is renowned for its two gorges - Velika and Mala Plaklenica, as well as for its interesting karstic forms, caves and lush flora and fauna.

A particular sight of interest here is the oldest pharmacy in Europe, located in the Friars Minor Monastery (1317).

Dalmatia: A Surprising Mediterranean Gem

Croatia's coast, which runs along the Adriatic, is part of the Dalmatian region. Known as the Land of a Thousand Islands, this area just begs travelers to charter a private yacht and explore its many islets, cliffs, and reefs. The island of Mljet is just off of Dubrovnik, a short trip on your charter yacht. It is a green paradise with a unique environment. As a consequence of the rising sea level, two beautiful salt lakes were created on the island: Veliko and Malo Jezero, which are surrounded by luxurious pine and oak woods. Because of its extraordinary beauty, this part of the island was proclaimed a Croatia national park in 1960.

Korcula (pronounced "kor-chew-la") is a Croatian goldmine of monuments dating from its days under Venetian rule. This was the home of famed traveler Marco Polo! Walk in his footsteps and explore the narrow streets and walkways. Though all that remains are his garden and a staircase to the tower, you can pay your respects to his efforts at nearby Saint Peter's Church, which is almost 700 years old.

Wandering on the island, you may notice Korcula's interesting street orientation. Roads were rebuilt in the 13th Century with lanes running west to east in order to block out the northeastern Bora , a cold and powerful wind that at times stirs up the Adriatic Sea. Meanwhile, the gentle Mistral breezes freely move from another direction to air condition the town.

Ship building and stone cutting played vital roles in Korcula's economy for centuries. Pine forests provided the raw materials for ships, and ships provided transportation for Korcula's stone, which was once used in many European palaces. Witness Korcula's heritage come to life in a traditional "Sword" dance that has been performed for more than four centuries.

As you cruise southwest off the Croatia coast, you'll find the island of Bisevo, which is a mere six square kilometers in area. From the deck of your yacht you will see many caves chiseled into the steep coasts. "Modra Spilja" stands out for having entrances both above and below sea level. When the sea is calm along the coast of Croatia, the light rays reflecting off the walls of this cave cast a blue hue on the objects and people inside while those in the water appear to be silver!

Located north of Bisevo, Vis is known for its calm waters and protected submarine world, rich with sunken ships that have remained hidden for years. Vis is the most westerly of the larger Croatia islands as well as the oldest established town in Dalmatia. In World War II, the island was a major base for British troops stationed in Croatia, and there is a British military cemetery on the island. After 1945, Vis was closed to tourism by the Yugoslav army and only reopened when Croatia declared its independence in 1990.

Krka National Park

The Krka National Park is another area of outstanding natural beauty in Croatia. The interconnected lakes and waterfalls are best appreciated on short boat tours or walks over the many bridges and footpaths. The Franciscan monastery of Visovac, located in the middle of one of the lakes, brings peace and serenity to all who visit.

Trogir is a wonderful old city surrounded by the sea, covered with stone streets and unique white buildings. Old Trogir is on the UNESCO cultural heritage register; a purposeful bridge connects coastal Croatian Trogir with its other half on the Island Ciovo. From the charter yacht, look out to see the old town's protective walls as well as the southern shore's beautiful palms. Main Trogir attractions include: Master Radovan, Kamerlengo and St. Marco Castle, North and South City Door, St. Nicholas Tower, Cipiko Palace, and the Cathedral in city square.

Wander narrow streets among the ancient houses of old town, each with fascinating architectural details. Stone walls and intricate courtyards hide some from view. For contrast, you can stroll along Island Ciovo's "Riva," which is considered to be Trogir's beach and is where medieval nobles built their villas.

You won't regret stopping in Kornati National Park, which includes a large part of the Kornati archipelago and covers 218 square kilometers of breathtaking islets, reefs, and 89 different islands! Kornati's best feature is the impressive contrast between barren, desert-like land and an incredibly rich underwater world.
