Yacht design, programme overview.
The Yacht Design degree program, offered in English, aims to prepare students to become professionals in the field capable of confronting industrial problems at a high degree of complexity and innovation. Graduates need to be able to understand, analyze and verify pleasure crafts, design large yachts based on innovative technologies, and oversee and direct construction, testing, maintenance and repair of yachts and mega yachts.
Learning by doing
The classroom lectures in which the theoretical foundation of each course is presented to students are supported by:
-didactic laboratories on design and nautical experimentation;
-internships at shipyards, professional consultancy studios, and maritime classification registers and surveying boards;
-conferences and workshops in the nautical field;
-university regattas;
-research theses on fundamental topics or on themes proposed by companies in the nautical field.
Career perspectives
Employment at construction shipyards, repair and refitting yards for yachts and pleasure craft, classification registers and surveying boards, design and professional consultancy studios and research institutes which operate in the yachting and mega yacht sectors.
Yacht stability, yacht dynamics, ship structures, numerical marine hydrodynamics, motor yacht design, yacht rigging, yacht design studio workshop, sailing yacht aero hydro dynamics, did you know that....
Yacht Design is a unique degree program in Italy and, as it is configured, it is also unique in Europe!
More than 90% of our graduates find employment at major shipyards and professional consultancy studios in the field.
At Polo ?G. Marconi' students, teachers and staff are united by their passion for yachting. During the academic year it is possible to participate in workshops, conferences, and the construction and refitting of boats designed by our students.
In the past, our students have formed a crew and participated in the ?Mille e una Vela' university regatta, winning in 2012!
Design of pleasure craft (without limits) both from a scientific and technological point of view and from an aesthetic point of view.
The nautical designer must possess the professional competence and skills in the disciplinary fields typical of naval engineering as well as an equally solid preparation in the field of architectural composition and design applied to the nautical field.
What does it mean to be a Yacht Designer?
It means being able to deal in an effective manner with technical problems at a high level of complexity and innovation, and work in an optimal manner using the most modern design and production techniques. In short, the principal characteristics of a professional of the Master’s program in Yacht Design will be a student who has the ability to understand, analyze and verify pleasure craft, even at a large dimension and complexity, design yachts of large dimension using innovative technologies, and oversee and direct the construction, testing, maintenance, operation and repair of leisure craft.

The Master in Yacht Design offers the ideal educational path to become a Yacht Designer
The Master in Yacht Design offers the ideal educational path to become a Yacht Designer, by giving the necessary skills to deal with every stage of the design process – from the initial research and development of the concept to the actual construction of the interiors and exteriors and the validation of production processes in the boatyard.
In recent years, the nautical sector has expanded constantly, confirming its role as one of the drivers of Made in Italy design. Furthermore, and the new classic approach, based on naval architecture, is taking on an automotive oriented edge, which introduces new working standards and technical and style solutions borrowed from car design.
The vocation of the Piemonte area, which boasts a number of style centres and renowned companies in the land and sea transport sectors, as well as one of the world’s largest shipyards, combined with the short distance from the coast of Liguria, makes Turin the natural setting for a training course founded on the growing process of osmosis that links the yacht world and the automotive industry.
Methodology and structure.
The course is planned in levels, which begin with providing students with essential knowledge of the nautical sector, in terms of both cultural aspects and basic techniques. From there, students gradually acquire the skills connected with yacht design.
Starting from a study of the history and current scenarios of the nautical sector, students will go on to study the market and obtain more detail knowledge of the different types of boats. They acquire significant knowledge of materials, technologies and production methods, including through hands-on experience in a shipyard. They are provided with technical drawing and design tools, as well.
A further strength of this Master course is the fact that is delivered on two campuses, Turin and Venice. This offers participants a dual scenario, in which both cities represent an important aspect of the themes the course is focused on: the tradition of the automotive industry on the one hand, and the maritime vocation on the other.
The training course ends with a Thesis Project, developed on a brief given by a boatyard or a design studio.
The admission of the Master is open to graduates in Architecture, Engineering and in the field of Design (Transportation, Interior, Product), as well as professionals in the sector seeking to apply their skills in this specific area.
We look forward to seeing you from 9th to 14th of september.

2018 saw the last edition of the World Superyacht Awards to be held in Florence. To marked the occasion we dressed the next generation of Italian superyacht owners , designers and builders in the finest Italian style and asked them what they think the future holds for the industry...
Simplicity is the epitome of Italian style and Italy wouldn’t be what it is if we didn’t have the sea surrounding us, almost like an island. We need to find new solutions in yachting, including new hull shapes for motor yachts, better connectivity on board and increased environmental awareness all round – including better education for those who enter the yachting industry, beyond their passion for the sea.

I’ve been taken on sailboats or a RIB – anything that floats – since I was a baby. Then I started sailing and became an instructor by the time I was 14 and later studied naval architecture. Yachting has more or less stayed the same for the last 50 years – prioritising comfort at sea – but now people are using their yachts differently. Why work in an office when you can do it on a yacht in a beautiful place and then get off and explore?
Everything is pointing to more efficient ways of doing things – optimising. Not just fuel, but also in volumes and the way space is designed. In Italy, our history, present and future have always been about design art. In general, the purchase of yachts is still very emotional, and that’s not going to change.

My first time on a sailboat was before I was one year old, and since then I have spent at least one month every year on a boat. Yachting has inspired my work as a fashion designer – a yacht has pure and elegant lines, yet intricate and advanced structures and technologies. Italians blend beauty and functionality by using an intelligent design and taking a user-centred focus.
Sustainability is important to tomorrow’s yacht owner, which I find inspiring. I design jewellery using leather remnants from the luxury fashion industry. We need to explore ways of being more eco-friendly and up-cycling in yacht building as well. Tech is the future. The yacht industry will innovate its technology offering, while maintaining its heritage. As my father always says, “We [ Nautor’s Swan ] always look for evolution and not revolution. The innovation is welcome, but only when it is well tested and safe for sailing.”

I discovered yachting during my studies and soon understood my real passion was to design boats. Italians are surrounded by beauty: in landscapes, cities, fashion and food. The mix of tradition and invention – this is what modern yacht owners really want. Yachts need to tell a story, whether it’s a personal story or a design story. In 20 years from now, Italian-built yachts will be more sculptural, sleek and high-tech.

My father has always been a boating enthusiast. He took me to the Genoa boat show at age five, and I decided from an early age I wanted to design boats. What makes Italians so stylish? The Renaissance, of course!
Innovation will come in the form of electronics, propulsion and hull design. If you look at pioneer yachts like Adler ( Baglietto 1987) or Blue Eyes (now Blue East , Baglietto 2004) you realise that 15 to 20-year-old lines are still a strong reference today. Lower running costs, bigger interior spaces and glass, glass, glass – that is the view of tomorrow. Plus more refits.

I’m a passionate cruising and racing sailor and watersports lover, and I have a degree in yacht and powercraft design from Southampton Solent University. Italian yacht building is becoming more client-focused, rather than product-oriented. As a direct result, semi-custom and custom building are becoming more popular. Tomorrow’s yacht owner wants high-quality products, both in terms of performance and craftsmanship. They will look for outstanding customer care service throughout their lifetime.
Eco-friendly solutions, informed by technology, will direct the industry in the future. The yacht industry needs to blend more design from the luxury world, in particular automotive, real estate and private jets.

I grew up in Sardinia sailing on small dinghies and fell in love with design at an early age – I have just combined my passions. Italians love the sea – we learn to smell the sea and hear the sound of the waves before anything else.
Tomorrow’s owner wants tailor-made solutions for each situation. The new designers will design customisable spaces – multifunctional areas able to change the intended use at any moment. Flexibility between in and outdoor, privacy and opening, ushering in a new era of “custom”. The future is about the domotics (smart home) revolution, as well as more glass and open spaces. We will speak and interact with the yacht as we already do with our phones in easier onboard controls.

I am a sailor, and yachting and the sea is a passion as well as my job – I couldn’t live without being surrounded by boats. Flexibility and ease – these are the things that tomorrow’s owner focuses on. They want to get rid of the problems connected to yacht ownership. Clients have less time to use the boats than in the past, so this time has to be spent in the best way.
Yachts should not look like floating real estate. Tech and design will always get updated but design must not lose its soul. The super sailing yacht market is a big opportunity – being a sailor, I hope that it will develop. We need new products and designs to meet the needs of a new generation of owners.

Italians pay particular attention to style – it’s in our DNA, it’s part of our history, heritage, culture and tradition. We will see a huge improvement in efficiency over the next two decades, thanks to technological advances. Consequently, Italian yards will arrive closer to the quality of northern European shipyards. I’d love to find more solutions for transparency – for invisible portholes and radar domes.

The flag of Omsk Oblast is a rectangular cloth of three vertical bands of equal size: the right and left red and white medium. In the centre of the white band, there is a blue vertical wavy azure pole which is 1/3 of its width.
The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3.
The main background of the flag of Omsk Oblast is red. It symbolizes bravery, courage, fearlessness. It is the colour of life, charity, and love.
The white symbolizes nobility, purity, justice, generosity, and indicates the climatic features of Siberia.
The wavy azure (blue) post symbolizes the Irtysh River, the main waterway of the oblast. Allegorically, the blue reflects beauty, majesty, and gentleness.

New buildings, new builds in omsk for sale.
City on the map.
Omsk is one of the largest cities in Russia, located in the south of the West Siberian Plain at the confluence of the Irtysh and the Om rivers.
It is a major transport hub where air, river, rail, road and pipeline transport routes intersect. The location at the intersection of the Trans-Siberian railway and a large waterway - the Irtysh River, the presence of an airport provide a dynamic, diversified development of the city.
The city is located in a temperate climatic zone with a continental climate of the forest-steppe of the West Siberian belt. Its peculiarity is a large number of sunny days. The average air temperature in January is -19.2 ° C, in July +18.3 ° C.
Omsk is the center of the manufacturing industry: enterprises of the fuel and energy industries, chemical and petrochemical industries, mechanical engineering, food industry operate here; financial institutions are widely represented: there are branches of all major Russian banks, as well as brokerage, leasing and factoring companies. The infrastructure of the city is well developed and is being improved further.
Omsk is the center of education and science in the Siberian region. Higher education is represented by more than 20 universities, which are known for the high level of training of specialists. Omsk higher school is traditionally considered one of the best in Russia, so people come here to study from all over the country.
New builds in Omsk are being built in significant numbers. You can buy an apartment in Omsk in the new builds at an affordable price and there is plenty to choose from, which is interesting for buyers and investors. Positive expectations are supported by the fact that Omsk, with its historically lowest prices and growth in demand for housing, still lags behind most megacities in this indicator, that is, the potential for price increases has not yet been exhausted. However, the unstable and unpredictable economic situation in the country, the creeping up price tag of building materials and the weakening ruble will inevitably affect the price per square meter. Considering that real money incomes of Omsk residents are significantly decreasing, unemployment is growing, these processes against the background of rising prices and weakening economy can negatively affect the demand. At the same time, even the mortgage programs promoted by the state will not be able to stimulate it.
Apartments in Omsk from the developers are offered on installment plan basis, besides, the investor-buyers receive new communications and more thought-out layouts. Investments bring passive income (rent, resale) as well.
Residential complexes in Omsk - housing built in compliance with building standards. Developers have positive quality reviews.
According to the real estate search engine GEOLN.COM, the minimum price per square meter for an apartment in black frame condition is $620, which is quite inexpensive.
Foreigners can buy real estate in Omsk in the new builds for sale. Discussions about toughening requirements for foreigners are actively initiated by individual representatives of the country's power structures. However, there are no decisions or draft laws at the moment.
Some sights of the city:
New builds for sale in Omsk from the developers are being erected throughout the city. Particular attention is paid to the Kirovsky District. The sale of apartments from developers is in demand by the residents of the area and by many visitors, since here are the highest, modern new homes. The area is located on the left bank of the Irtysh. Almost all large shopping centers are located in Kirovsky. This is a real trading center. The Kirovsky District accounts for a significant share of transactions.
There is a demand for real estate located in green areas, near rivers, where there are also motorways and public transport stops nearby. In particular, these are new homes for sale on the street. Krasny Put’ and some complexes of the Left Bank, which are also distinguished by convenient infrastructure for families with children (schools, kindergartens).
Purchasing apartments in the new developments in Omsk is an investment project with a development potential, given the large scale and continued good construction dynamics. At the same time, experts cautiously draw attention to some risks for investors in the near future, associated with the general state of the Russian market. However, the “domestic” buyer is still willing to purchase primary housing here for living.
District | Price from |
---|---|
Kirovsk | 620$ / m |
Kristall | 720$ / m |
Kuibyshevsky | 640$ / m |
