GRACE yacht interior
Designed by Terence Disdale , an award-winning designer responsible for creating some of the most renowned superyachts in the world.
Terence Disdale has had no formal training in yacht design or engineering, but despite this, he is still one of the most sought-after designers in the world.
Along with the GRACE yacht, he also has several yachts that he designed.
One of these is the Al Salamah, the 280 million dollar superyacht owned by once Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Pelorus superyacht, and the Tatoosh superyacht, a 303-foot superyacht owned by the American businessman, Paul Allen.
Onboard the GRACE yacht is an elevator, a beach club, a grand piano, underwater lights, and even a swimming platform.
Adding to this, she also has zero-speed stabilizers to keep guests and crew alike safe and stable when going out to the rough seas.
She also has full air-conditioning to keep guests cool in the hot summer. Speaking of guests, the GRACE yacht can comfortably accommodate lots of people at a time.
She can easily host 12 guests at a time by utilizing her six suite rooms and one VIP cabin, with a cabin configuration of 1 Master and four doubles.
Along with this, she can also hold up to 23 crew members to attend to the guest’s needs.
Specifications
She boasts an incredible 81.00 meters or 265.75 ft length, making her the 126th biggest superyacht globally. Adding to this, she also has a beam of 14.00 meters or 45.93 ft and a draught of 3.50 meters or 11.5 ft.
GRACE yacht was engineered using a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure.
She currently weighs around 2,306 tons, and powering this behemoth are twin 2,000hp Caterpillar 3516-B engines partnered with her 170,000-liter fuel tank.
The GRACE yacht can comfortably cover a distance of over 4,500 nautical miles at cruising speeds of 14 knots and a maximum speed of 16.5 knots.
Along with this, she can carry upwards of 35,000 liters of water, so docking constantly to refill water is not a problem in this superyacht.
Her exterior was designed by the same company that crafted her interior, Terence Disdale, who has already developed 40 yachts and is responsible for the interior designs of 76 vessels.

Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands publishes events that led to death on superyacht ‘Kibo’
When marine accidents occur, the subsequent investigation is meticulous – it has to be if safety lessons are to be learned and accidents avoided in future. This is clear from the report released of the investigation into an accident aboard M/Y Kibo that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old British crew member.
The investigation undertaken by the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (the flag state at the time of the accident) concluded that:
“As with most accidents, it is not possible to cite a single event or action as the ‘cause’. Rather a sequence of events and circumstances ultimately led to the accident occurring and the severity of its consequences.”
Jacob Nicol had joined the Kibo when the yacht was under construction by Abeking & Rasmussen in Germany and formally signed on as a deckhand in June 2014. Kibo was his first job working on a superyacht. He had been working on the yacht for 371 days when the accident occurred.
The 81-metre built superyacht was anchored at Portal Nous in Majorca with a party of six staying aboard when the accident occurred.
On the morning of the 3 rd May 2015 while the crew were waiting for the guests to awake, they busied themselves with the typical duties required.
It was decided that it would be a good opportunity to clean the rubbing strakes (known as the rub rails) on the yachts hull about 3 metres above the waterline.
Jacob would carry out the work under the supervision of the third officer and chief officer and just after 10am he was fitted with a safety harness and attached to the bosun’s chair.
According to the accident report: “The safety harness would then be attached to a fender hook on the port side bulwark by a rope fitted with an ascender/descender device for controlling the working position of the wearer.”
Jacob “then changed into appropriate footwear for working over the side while the [third] officer checked the fender hook and rope which were already in place on the port side bulwark. The arrangement of a safety harness/bosun’s chair/support line/fender hook comprised the deckhand’s ‘means of support’ and no additional safety line was rigged.”
After approximately 50 minutes of working on the hull the chief officer witnessed the fender hook detaching from the bulwark with Jacob still attached via the rope.
Rushing over to the bulwark visual contact was made with Jacob. Acknowledging he was okay Jacob began slowly swimming towards the stern of the yacht.
With Jacob temporarily out of sight the chief officer moved to another part of the yacht and informed another deckhand to swim to the area where she had last seen Jacob.
In the 29 seconds from the chief office seeing Jacob and the other deckhand swimming to where he was last seen, Jacob had disappeared from the surface. The situation rapidly escalated into a full emergency.
The master and other crew members arrived at the scene. As scuba diving equipment was prepared several attempts were made to swim underwater to reach Jacob.
13 minutes and 23 seconds after Jacob fell into the water he was eventually brought to the surface by the master where he received medical attention. When he was transferred to the shore and moved to an ambulance a pulse was detected.
Jacob was eventually moved to the UK and remained in hospital until his death on 7 th June 2017.
An inquest at Birmingham Coroner’s Court heard he died of bronchial pneumonia brought on by his immobility.
Coventry Live reported at the time: ‘Assistant coroner Emma Brown said: “’There were no visible external injuries to the head, though the brain appeared to be small.
“The cause of death was a chest infection attributed to his immobility caused by the accident which had led to a hypoxic brain injury.”’
Dr Elezar Okirie, a neurological consultant at Hunters Moor Neurological Rehabilitation Centre, said Mr Nichol had been in a “low awareness and minimal conscious state” and suffered from seizures.
The investigation undertaken by the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands indicated that:
“The most likely direct cause of the accident was that the deckhand lost his footing and fell while in the process of repositioning the fender hook.
“An MRI scan carried out at the hospital in Majorca also revealed a small fracture of the orbit of his skull. The most likely cause of this fracture is that he was hit on the head by the fender hook when he fell.”
Other factors cited by the report that contributed to the accident included:
- No buoyancy aid deployed when it was first seen Jacob had fallen in. With the fender hook weighing 5.5kg and still attached to him it would have taken a very strong swimmer to resist the drag. It was noted that Jacob could swim but was not the strongest of swimmers.
- In accordance with the yacht’s technical manual no additional separate lifeline was being used. And no lifejacket was being worn in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures. Both of these issues were said to “likely to have contributed to the seriousness of the injuries sustained in the accident.”
- The level of supervision, given the nature of the work, was below that required by the onboard risk assessment.
Following the accident yacht management company Y.CO conducted its own internal investigation which led to changes across its entire fleet of managed yachts. It also implemented a range of revised operating procedures and training.
As always, our thoughts and sympathies go out to Jacob’s family and friends.

81.8m ‘Kibo’ sale confirmation of very active market
Chris cecil-wright discusses his latest sale, which had a final asking price of €129 million….
Chris Cecil-Wright and Merle Wood (joint CA) of their eponymous brokerage houses and Will Christie of Y.CO (joint CA) have teamed up on the sale of the 81.8m Abeking & Rasmussen motoryacht, Kibo , which was originally delivered to a Russian client in 2014. With a final asking price of €129 million, it is the largest publicly announced brokerage deal of 2018 so far, by value.
Set to be renamed Grace , the vessel is currently on the way to the US to undergo refit work. “The buyer is absolutely delighted,” says Cecil-Wright, who represented the buyer in the deal, in an exclusive conversation with SuperyachtNews . “It’s a great boat and doesn’t need any major work. She has a lovely interior and the new owners will put their spin on the artwork and make other personal touches. She is going to be painted ‘snow white’ and we’re also going to build the sundeck into a really nice inside-outside spa.”
The buyer has owned a number of Northern-European builds before and is very experienced. According to Cecil-Wright, he wanted more space and more waterline length for cruising to Australia and New Zealand, which is where the vessel will cruise after the refit. That said, Cecil-Wright reveals the new owner wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new boat at all.
“They’ve had lots of different interiors on their past boats,” he continues. “In this particular case, they liked the relaxed, beachy atmosphere. His main requirements were for more space, a forward-facing master cabin, a beach club, as well as room to put in a proper spa deck. He also wanted a nice, relaxed interior. Having a beach club area is a new feature for them so they are pleased with that.”
Cecil-Wright says it's a “very active” market in the upper size-ranges, currently. “There are plenty of people buying and plenty selling, which is what we want as brokers. I would say that it’s more active than the smaller end of the market, maybe because there is just so much more volume [of boats] available.”
Cecil Wright and I discuss the influx of new CAs in the 60m-plus sector and how this is affecting market dynamics and we agree that many of the boats are still very overpriced. “I completely ignore listing prices these days,” he continues. “I know what the boats are worth and my offers [on behalf of clients] are based on that. It’s just analytical; if they don’t like the offers, I show them my analysis!”.
Whilst not directly relevant to this sale, he says there is a noticeable shift in activity from 60m to 70m and above. “60m is a great size and there is still a great market for a boat in this size range but there’s not a lot to buy at the moment.”
Cecil-Wright, whose clients looking to buy are mainly European – English, Scottish, Irish and German – says this particular deal was enjoyable. “Merle is the consummate dealmaker, the daddy of deal making, and it’s always good fun doing deals with him.”

By Rebecca Bradbury 31 July 2018
It has been revealed that the award-winning 82m/266ft motor yacht KIBO is now available for charter in popular Mediterranean destinations such as Monaco and the South of France .
When KIBO was launched from Abeking & Rasmussen in 2014, she was met with acclaim from across the industry. With exceptional exterior and interior design from Terence Disdale and a wealth of modern features to keep guests entertained, she is certainly an exciting addition to the charter fleet.
The charter rates have not been officially announced yet. But, as her sistership, the 82m/268ft charter yacht ROMEA , is available from €875,000 per week and was launched a year later, KIBO’s weekly base rate is expected to be slightly less than this fee. YachtCharterFleet will keep readers updated on the situation when a formal confirmation has been given.
With a name that means hope in Japanese, the motor yacht is guaranteed to turn heads as she cruises in the world’s hottest cruising grounds thanks to her elegant lines and timeless good looks.
Guests on board, meanwhile, have a choice of luxe deck areas in which to spend their time. The sundeck lures with its sleek bar and wonderful views, while the upper deck aft is dedicated to lounging and dining, making it an excellent place for getting together with friends and family.
Another popular daytime hangout is sure to be the inviting beach club where guests can unwind just metres away from the ocean. Custom artworks line the walls of the salon, and there is access to the spa facilities as well as the large swim platform and the water toy collection.
With exceptional exterior and interior design from Terence Disdale and a wealth of modern features, KIBO is certainly an exciting addition to the charter fleet
The interior of luxury yacht KIBO takes on a beach house-style theme with inspiration taken from natural shapes and textures. Tan coloured woods, cream hues and bespoke furniture ensures a tranquil yet totally exquisite atmosphere in which charterers can truly relax on their private yacht charter .
In the main salon, a cinema screen and speakers pop up from cabinets for movie nights at sea and a custom resin mural with black and gold highlights watches over the formal dining table. A more intimate, after-dinner vibe is then found in the skylounge above, perfect for winding down in the evening.
Also impressive is the upper deck master suite, which features sensational views through the 180-degree windows, a private terrace, a study and his and her bathrooms. The other accommodation is made up of a VIP suite and four doubles on the main deck. Up to 12 guests can sleep on board during a charter vacation.

Incorrect working practices on board Kibo caused fatal injuries of crew member, investigation finds
Incorrect working practices on board the 81.80 metre Abeking & Rasmussen yacht Kibo (now named Grace ) led to the severe injuries of a crewmember who later died, an investigation has found.
Jacob Nicol was cleaning the rub rails of Kibo in Mallorca on May 3, 2015 when he fell into the water, hitting his head on a 5.5kg fender hook and sustaining a skull fracture.
He was recovered from the water by a diver on board the yacht, who found him “face down on the seabed” but by that time had spent more than 13 minutes underwater. The consequent starvation of oxygen left Jacob brain damaged and severely disabled.
He died just over two years later, on June 7, 2017, as a result of a chest infection caused by his immobility.
Now an investigation into the incident, undertaken by the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands, has ruled that the incident occurred because the yacht’s safety procedures were not followed.
These included the fact that Jacob was not wearing a lifejacket or buoyancy aid while working over the side, a requirement stipulated in the yacht’s Standard Operating Procedures and Technical Manual.
There was also no separate lifeline in use, which meant Jacob was not attached to a fixed point of the yacht’s structure while he worked. The investigation also noted that the incident was not captured by any of the 14 CCTV cameras on board Kibo because Jacob was working outside of the motion detection zone.
The conclusion of the investigation was that the most likely cause of the incident was Jacob losing his footing and falling into the water while repositioning the fender hook.
