Why MrBeast’s New Video Became the Second Most Watched in 24 Hours in YouTube History

Y ouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known to most as MrBeast , recently uploaded a new video that racked up 47 million views in 24 hours to become the second most watched non-music YouTube video within that time frame. In the video, titled “$1 vs $1,000,000,000 Yacht,” the 25-year-old compares a sinking boat worth one dollar to various luxury boats and a billion-dollar yacht. It also features surprise celebrity appearances from comedian Pete Davidson and recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady .

MrBeast, the third most subscribed YouTuber, who is known for his generous giveaways, tweeted the news of his second ranking on June 11. The only video that ranks higher is The Guardian’s Will Smith and Chris Rock Oscars slap snafu video , which had 50 million views in its first day last year. MrBeast actually bumped his own video out of second place: Prior to the yacht video, his video recreation of the popular Netflix series Squid Game held the second position. His latest video beat the Squid Game one, which currently has 438 million views and is his most viewed video, by 5 million views within the 24-hour timeframe.

The 15-minute video features MrBeast showcasing seven different boats, ranging from $1 (which sinks within the first few minutes of the video); to a $300 million boat that contains luxurious furniture, a movie theater, and helipad landing onboard; to a $1 billion cruise liner that holds “a floating city.” Viewers witness MrBeast peruse the exclusive sites alongside a handful of his crew members, and toward the end of the video with a handful of lucky subscribers.

If you’re new to the world of MrBeast, it might not immediately compute why a video about yachts would be such an immediate hit on the platform.

“What Jimmy has done here is take a luxury lifestyle item like a yacht or a cruise, something that the average American has aspirations for, and he’s able to contextualize them in a very fun and silly way,” says Jack Appleby, the creator of Future Social , a newsletter teaching social strategy to over 45,000 marketers.

You don’t get nearly 50 million views within 24 hours by chance. This video was so successful, Appleby tells TIME, because of the strong digital strategy of the YouTuber, who uploaded his first video as a tween in 2012 and became widely popular in 2017. “This is a guy who has meticulously studied YouTube content for a decade now and understands what we want to see.” Like the rest of MrBeast’s successful videos, this one includes helpful YouTube video elements: an eye-grabbing thumbnail, a catchy title, helpful subtitles, as well as graphics, video hooks, and transitions that keep viewers engaged. Appleby believes this video’s billion-dollar boat price tag and surprise celebrity appearances make it “way over the top compared to his other videos.”

And he isn’t simply showcasing the luxury items, like other successful formats have done (see, for example, mega YouTuber Casey Neistat , whose most viewed YouTube videos features him vlogging his experience on the world’s most expensive plane rides). In fact, it isn’t until the last three minutes of the video that he tours the billion-dollar yacht, after the majority of the video has been spent on showing cheaper boats and random anecdotes with his friends as they explore all the boats have to offer. “He uses constant tactics to keep you engaged,” says Appleby. “In this video, he used screen watermarks that remind you which boat you’re looking at and what you have to look forward to in the video.”

Another significant element of the new video are the cameos. MrBeast doesn’t often have celebrities in his videos, and despite not advertising them in the video thumbnail or title, the inclusion of Davidson and Brady as surprise guests works to broaden his reach to the sports and comedy fandoms. “I think it’s the nicest boat in the world,” said Brady in the video of the $300 million offering. Brady also says in the video that his children won’t stop eating MrBeast’s chocolate line Feastibles , serving as an endorsement of MrBeast’s other entrepreneurial efforts. His videos are largely successful with the children and teen demo groups .

It was clear even before his latest video that MrBeast is in a league of his own, with his biggest competition being himself. “The snowball effect is going to be larger and larger,” says Appleby of MrBeast’s future successes. “I think we’re at the beginning of how big this guy’s gonna be.”

In the last couple of months, two cruise ships have been featured in Mr Beasts videos across YouTube and Facebook. If you’ve watched the videos you might be wondering which they are.

I have spoken to guests who were onboard during the filming and the below information relates to two YouTube videos, the first being $1 vs $1,000,000,000 Yacht!

Which Cruise Ship Was Mr Beasts $1 vs $1,000,000,000 Yacht filmed on?

Mr Beasts $1 vs $1,000,000,000 Yacht! video was filmed onboard the Harmony of the Seas. Harmony of the Seas is owned by Royal Caribbean and is one of the biggest cruise ships in the world.

In the video, Mr Beast rented the ship and then invited onboard 400 of his YouTube subscribers.

At the end of the video, Mr Beast gave away cruises onboard Icon of the Seas which is even bigger than Harmony of The Seas featured on the video.

Onboard Harmony of The Seas Mr Beast and his team had the sky suite as their production office. This is one of the biggest cabins on the ship.

MrBeast has gone maritime in his latest video . The extremely popular YouTuber has embarked on an unprecedented adventure that has taken his content creation to a new level. MrBeast’s latest endeavor is an exploration of luxury yachts and cruise ships, including one of the world’s largest, Royal Caribbean International ’s Harmony of the Seas .

The journey commences with MrBeast humorously purchasing a $1 yacht. The novelty of this tiny vessel was quickly overshadowed by its lack of seaworthiness as it started to sink, prompting a comical, quick escape by MrBeast and his companions.

The next step in the maritime journey is a tour of a $1 million yacht. This more spacious vessel offers surprising luxury, with several bedrooms and a sizeable living area.

Continuing the luxurious maritime tour, MrBeast and his friends proceeded to a $10 million yacht. They admire its larger size and the superior amenities it offers, such as additional bedrooms and plush seating areas.

The conclusion of the superyacht section is a jaw-dropping $300 million yacht. With an onboard crew of 50 members attending to their every need, MrBeast and his friends explore numerous decks, extravagant suites, a state-of-the-art gym, a movie theater, and even a helicopter pad. 

In a surprise twist, NFL legend Tom Brady even makes a guest appearance, adding more fun and games to the nautical experience.

The video’s grand finale sees MrBeast setting sail on the Harmony of the Seas . This cruise ship is one of the world’s largest in the world at 226,963 gross tons.

MrBeast’s video begins with a tour of the ship without any guests onboard, touring all the amenities onboard, and concludes with him showing what he has become famous for, giving back to his subscribers. Four hundred of his subscribers are all given a free cruise onboard the 1 billion dollar cruise ship.

Harmony of the Seas is currently sailing from Miami, Florida, to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Harmony of the Seas can accommodate a total of 6,687 guests, with 5,479 guests in double occupancy supported by 2,200 dedicated crew members. Guests have a choice of 2,747 staterooms, including 1,957 balcony rooms, 448 inside rooms, 266 outside rooms, and more.

The ship features 16 guest decks and 18 total decks, highlights include attractions such as the Ultimate Abyss, a 10-story slide, The Perfect Storm, a trio of water slides, and Splashaway Bay, a kids’ water park. Built by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, she sailed on her maiden voyage on May 29, 2016.

It’s worth mentioning that Mr. Beast’s YouTube channel has a staggering 116 million subscribers, which makes him the No. 1 YouTuber in the world. His chocolate company is known as ‘Beastables’ which makes chocolates purely from organic cocoa. And last but not least, he runs a virtual burger chain across the US and Europe named ‘MrBeast Burger.’

A Yacht Fit for the Elite

The whole interaction was going on a $50 million yacht. Although the yacht was not owned by MrBeast, he was just using this one for shooting one of his many spectacular videos. Daniel asked if he can own that yacht. In turn, Beast asked what he would get in return from Mac.  He replied, “Friendship”

And Beast didn’t seem pretty interested in the return gift from Mac.

Don’t take it too seriously though as this was all a playful act between Beast and Mac and done purely in a sarcastic and humorous way. GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: MrBeast is widely recognized for his extravagant stunts and generous giveaways, but his latest video has crossed the line into excessive territory. The video, "$1 vs $1,000,000,000 Yacht!" opens with the director meeting a man whose internet advertisement for a $1 yacht had gone viral.

The yacht's owner stated that he only wanted to get rid of it because it cost approximately $20,000 to store it. When the boat capsized on its very first voyage on the sea, MrBeast and the crew quickly discovered why. Here’s more about the amusing occurrence and the other opulent yachts shown in the YouTube video.

'I don't know if this was worth even a dollar'

As soon as MrBeast got on his recently acquired boat, he saw why the owner was so eager to sell it. He said, “And after stepping on board, it was pretty clear why this yacht only costs $1.” The designer observed that the boat was not even worth its pitiful price tag when the water began leaking through the lower floors. He added, “I don't think the floor is supposed to do that...I don't know if this was worth even a dollar.”

The creator jokingly screamed at the steadily sinking boat, and when everyone leapt off, MrBeast and his buddies began swimming back to shore, “My baby..I paid a whole dollar for that.” Since the purpose of the film was to highlight how magnificent yachts get as their price increases, it also included MrBeast demonstrating the interiors of six additional boats with prices ranging from $1,000,000 to a staggering $1,000,000,000.

Tom Brady teases NFL return

The retired NFL legend had still another Easter Egg despite making it obvious what he thought of a potential comeback to the league in 2023 and saying that he would be more than happy to avoid taking hits from players like Aaron Donald in retirement. "Maybe I should come out of retirement," Brady said in MrBeast's video. A drone was following the yacht that MrBeast had. Brady's Spider-Senses also tingled when he noticed the drone.

The quarterback who has since retired claimed that if he succeeds in hitting the target on the first attempt, he might think about coming out of retirement for this one time only. Despite the doubts of his daughter Vivian, he naturally succeeded on the first attempt. Brady had to declare his retirement in the most appropriate manner imaginable, of course, and aboard a yacht. Talking about the yacht Brady said, "I think it's the nicest boat in the world."

Although he made that statement before the MrBeast video, the seven-time Super Bowl winner seemed to not be considering returning to the NFL. However, should the transaction be officially approved by the other NFL owners, his ownership of a good little chunk of the Las Vegas Raiders would make any comeback to the league more difficult.

Regarding the other NFL owners, even if Brady just owns a little part in the team, 24 of them would need to agree for him to return to the league. The issue of pay and contractual commitments is also present. The figures are hazy, but Brady would count as an addition to the roster, one that included players like Davante Adams and others. • On the Flagrant podcast, Donaldson said that he received an offer of $1 billion for his content empire.
• He said it would take an offer of at least $10 billion to sell. 

YouTuber MrBeast — whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson — said he received an offer of $1 billion to take over his content empire, including his main channel which has over 100 million subscribers, but turned it down. 

During an appearance on the Flagrant podcast on September 27 , co-host Andrew Shulz said he was "shocked" that Donaldson hadn't been offered "the craziest check in history" for his content.

"I have been offered a pretty crazy one," Donaldson said. "There's people, not like official term sheets, but people that would be able to afford it, a billion dollars if they could own the channel and the companies and stuff."

The 24-year-old said he couldn't give any further details of who or where the offer came from but that it was a legitimate offer. 

Flagrant's co-hosts asked Donaldson whether he had a price in mind for his channel and associated endeavors if he were to sell in the future. 

"It's so crazy I don't even want to say it because it's just where I want to be. If we have a mobile game company and we got 100 million people playing it, and we have a thousand physical Beast Burgers and Feastables in 20,000 stores, it would probably be like $10 billion, $20 billion," he said, referring to his burger restaurant chain and line of chocolates and cookies.

Donaldson is one of the most popular and highest-paid creators on YouTube, and is known for stunts like turning a backyard into a ball pit , and giving away a million dollars but only giving people one minute to spend it. He's given away everything from an island , to luxury cars , to millions in cash.

But his rise to fame has not been without controversy — last year, a group of former employees told The New York Times Donaldson created a hostile work environment and that his "demeanor changed when the cameras weren't around."

Donaldson launched a delivery-only restaurant brand, MrBeast Burger, in December 2020 and sold over one million sandwiches in three months. In early September 2022, MrBeast Burger opened its first physical restaurant at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Thousands camped out for the opening.
