Eco Yacht, a 110-foot hybrid catamaran by Marc Pajot
Eco Yachts is a 110-foot custom catamaran designed by the sailor Marc Pajot in collaboration with some of the big names in the field. This yacht equipped with electric motors has been designed as a real yacht with all comfort and green.
A custom catamaran
The French sailor Marc Pajot , Olympic medallist, winner of the 1982 Route du Rhum and two-time America's Cup semi-finalist has just unveiled a project for a 110-foot custom catamaran . The Eco Yacht was designed in collaboration with Nicolas Fauroux, engineer and naval architect and Franck de Rivoyre and Christophe Larose, structural and mature engineers, who participated in the construction of the multihulls Foncia and Groupama . The team is already in talks with several boat builders.
This catamaran has an aluminium hull and nacelle structure for lightness and ease of use for the shipyards, with a composite roof and flybridge superstructure and a carbon rigging featuring numerous innovations. Starting with a boomless mast.
A mast without a boom
The 181 m2 horn mainsail is easily hoisted on a boomless mast, which allows simple and safe adjustments, especially during gybing manoeuvres. To stow it, it descends by itself and simply folds flat on deck into a mainsail locker on the flybridge without human handling . Guided by lazyjacks that are unfolded when the locker is opened. She is hoisted with a single halyard on an electric winch to lock on a hook. Once the locker is closed, the sail is protected from UV rays and bad weather, and leaves room for a large sunbathing area.
The adjustment of the double-stranded sheet tension is done by 2 standard single-acting jacks and the sheet bar will be continuous with a "push, pull" jack, 2 buttons are enough for the adjustments. The headsails - a 110 m² jib, a 264 m² genoa, and a gennaker up to 790 m are mounted on electric furlers and sheets on captive winches located in the side lockers of the Fly. The mainsail will be set up or lowered in less than 4 minutes from the integrated helm stations at the front of the catwalks where all the controls are located. An interior lookout station is also designed around the chart table.
Comfortable navigation
With a gondola height of more than 1.60 m above the water to avoid impacts when closed, tapered bows and relatively narrow floats, the Eco Yacht should provide a smooth and smooth passage through the sea. With the two pivoting daggerboards, the hull will be able to ride upwind well, reducing water drag downwind and under power.
With a low hull drag, the sailing catamaran will be fitted with a hybrid engine to optimise energy efficiency and limit CO2 emissions and noise pollution. The generators and battery banks will be installed in the centre of the boat , while the shaft-line electric motors will be located in the aft skirts. Hydrodynamic generation using retractable pods will become an important source of charge for the battery banks, while a system of more than 35 m² of solar panels will ensure the consumption of life on board .
A custom layout
The ground floor layout is fully customizable. The main deck area of 100 m² provides a large lounge, dining room, bar, separate kitchen and panoramic owner's suite. The crew cabins will be duplex thanks to the nice headroom, with an independent crew quarter offering direct access to the galley and engine rooms. A total of 8 to 12 guests and 4 to 6 crew members can be accommodated on board.
Thanks to the high freeboard, the VIP cabins will have an opening on the same level as the aft skirts, accessible through a large glass door. These skirts form with the hydraulic platform in low position a huge bathing platform never before seen on a catamaran of this size and which can accommodate a Williams 625 tender. A counter-current swimming pool allows him to bring all the equipment of a large 40 m monohull yacht.
A very large outdoor space
The flybridge is larger at the front of the mast and offers plenty of living space: bar, sunbathing and dining area, without being hindered by manoeuvres. The beach accessible from inside through side doors is also very spacious and can be equipped with a jacuzzi.
In addition to access to shallow areas due to the catamaran hull, the boat can also be set ashore on the daggerboard salmon without the need for bers or special dunnage.

Marc Pajot Unveils A New 110′ Eco Custom Catamaran
Involved in the design of innovative racing multihulls since 1980 and, since 2001, in the brokerage of luxury catamarans, yachts and motoryachts, French sailor Marc Pajot , Olympic medallist, winner of the 1982 Route du Rhum and twice semi-finalist in the America’s Cup, is presenting a radically innovative superyacht catamaran project.
Resulting from the collaboration of a team of specialists, the Pajot Custom 110′ catamaran is a combination of new and coordinated concepts. The innovations coupled with proven solutions allow this multihull platform to achieve all the functions and attributes of a superyacht .
About the sailplan of this model presented by Marc Pajot
At the heart of the concept is the development of a high-performance sail plan to achieve high cruising speeds, while being easy and safe to handle. The square-topped mainsail of only 181 m² (1,948 sq ft) is narrow and efficient. The absence of a boom allows very simple and safe trimming, especially for gybing. It is also safe to hoist and to stow. It is simply flaked on deck, into a compartment on the flybridge, using a system of batten cars.
The headsails this 110′ Eco Custom catamaran presented by Marc Pajot have the benefit of a very large foretriangle for better downwind performance and to reduce the driving load as a function of the wind. A 110 m² (1,185 sq ft) jib, a 264 m² (2,824 sq ft) genoa, and a gennaker up to 790 m² (8,503 sq ft) are mounted on electric furlers and allow the best possible use of the weather conditions for maximum feel and safety .
Sail trimming and manoeuvres are carried out on captive winches with electric controls, allowing the sails to be trimmed from the helm stations or from anywhere onboard using the remote control. In order to prioritize the sensation, to keep the visibility and concentration necessary for watchkeeping, and to preserve the privacy of the guests, fore helm stations have been integrated on the side decks, grouping all the controls. An interior navigation station also takes place around the chart table.
About the materials
Aluminum for the hulls and bridge deck was selected for the flexibility it provides in manufacturing, allowing modifications and adapting the know-how of different yards. It allows weight and strength to be put where they are needed. It is also easy to maintain and repair and has excellent durability. Composite for the superstructure has been chosen for its aesthetic appearance, lightness, and insulation properties. Carbon for the rig has been chosen for its combination of rigidity and lightness.
About the layouts
The use of a large proportion of the overall length of the hull, dedicated to the nacelle, has the effect of enlarging the flush-decked living space, both inside and out. The flybridge of this new 110′ catamaran unveiled by Marc Pajot is thus larger forward of the mast and provides additional usable space in the saloon and on the flybridge.
The surface area of over 100 m² (1,075 sq ft) on the flybridge makes it possible to enjoy all the living areas, bar, sunbathing and dining areas without being hindered by crew manoeuvres. The foredeck, accessible from the interior through lateral doors is also very spacious and can be equipped with a Jacuzzi.
A new design has been created for the very long sugar scoops, which can be transformed into private terraces or beach club space according to your desires. Together with the hydraulic platform in its lowered position, the sugar scoop form a huge bathing platform never before seen on a catamaran of this size and which can house a Williams 625 tender. A counter-current swimming pool gives its vocation as a superyacht.
The layout and interior decor can be fully customized and modulated. The freeboard clearance (approximately 3 metres / 10 feet)) allows the VIP cabins to have flush-decked opening onto the sugar scoops, accessible through a bay window (Veritas standards).
The two VIP cabins thus have their own outdoor access. The main deck area of 100 m² (1,075 sq ft) provides a large saloon, dining area bar, a separate galley, and panoramic owner’s suite. The crew quarters exploit the high headroom to provide comfortable duplex cabins and an independent crew mess with direct access to the galley and engine rooms. With these facilities, equivalent to those normally found aboard a 40-meter (130’) monohull, 8 to 12 guests and 4 to 6 crew will be comfortably accommodated.

Wider shipyard picks up Pajot's 33.6m eco catamaran 110 yacht concept
Italian shipyard Wider has partnered with Pajot Custom Yachts on the construction of its eco catamaran sailing yacht concept Catamaran 110.
It comes after the 33.6 metre multihull sailing yacht was unveiled in June 2020. The concept is designed to incorporate all the “functions and attributes of a superyacht,” according to designer Marc Pajot.
The hulls and bridge deck will be built in aluminium paired with a composite superstructure.
Low drag catamaran hulls are combined with simple sail handling for good sea keeping and easy handling with minimum crew.
The 14.12 metre beam meanwhile provides an interior living area of more than 200 square metres as well as plenty of outdoor entertainment areas, including more than 200 square metres of dining and relaxation areas forward and aft of the flybridge.
Following the Wider collaboration, Centro Stile Wider will handle the interior design, creating two interior configurations specifically for charter. The interior layout and style will be custom designed to match the personality and tastes of the owner.
Accommodation on board is for a total of 12 guests, comprising two aft VIP cabins with private exterior access and a panoramic 22 square metre master cabin on the main deck, also with private outdoor access.
Crew accommodation is for a staff of four, alongside a spacious galley and manoeuvring areas separate from the guests.
Elsewhere, the catamaran features a Jacuzzi on the main deck forward and counter current swimming pool aft, as well as storage for a Williams 625 tender.

Marc Pajot designs boomless ‘Eco Yacht’
- October 7, 2020
Catamaran 110’s features include automated sailing, forward helms, enormous outdoor and indoor areas, spectacular cabin views, and energy-saving propulsion and power systems.
Pajot Custom Yachts has released a spectacular concept for ‘The Eco Yacht’ Catamaran 110’, an innovative easy-sailing cat without a boom. Features include forward helm stations integrated into the side decks, supported by an interior navigation and monitoring station.
The boomless yacht – a design as old as the first Dart 16 and more recently used on the AC75 yachts for the 36th America’s Cup – incorporates a narrow, square-topped mainsail (180sqm), which can be hoisted or lowered in less than four minutes and stored in a locker on the expansive flybridge.
Marc Pajot’s ‘Eco Yacht’ concept is a 110ft catamaran without a boom
“The absence of a boom allows for very simple, safe trimming,” says company founder Marc Pajot, the legendary French sailor who has been designing racing multihulls since 1980 and involved in the brokerage of luxury yachts since 2001.
Pajot, 67, created the 110-footer with Nicolas Fauroux, an engineer and naval architect whose designs include the 40m sloop Vaimiti , as well as Franck de Rivoyre and Christophe Larose, structural and rigging engineers who have worked on the majority of sailing catamarans over 18m (59ft) including round-the-world record breakers Foncia and Groupama .
The narrow, square-topped mainsail can be hoisted or lowered in less than four minutes
The Catamaran 110’ has aluminium hulls and bridge deck, composite coachroof and flybridge superstructures, and a carbon rig, which includes a 110sqm jib, a 264sqm genoa and a gennaker up to 790sqm, all mounted on electric furlers. The mast is set slightly aft of centre.
Trimming and manoeuvres are carried out on captive winches with electric controls, with automated deck hardware allowing fingertip manoeuvres from the helm stations or anywhere on board using the remote control.
Power-saving and emission-reducing features include diesel-electric propulsion, service power supplied by 70sqm of solar panels and hydrodynamic generators, and electric energy storage for autonomy at anchor.
The engine rooms with generators and battery banks are in the centre of the hull, which features 1.6m of bridgedeck clearance.
The yacht features a wide array of outdoor living areas
“There’s no more need for heavy, complicated, fuel-consuming and noisy yachts,” says Pajot, whose sailing resume includes a 1972 Olympic silver medal in Flying Dutchman with his brother Yves, victory in the 1982 Route du Rhum and two America’s Cup semi-finals.
“This is the birth of a real ‘E’ yacht featuring catamaran hulls with a low hydrodynamic drag, a simple and efficient sail system, and a large source of solar and hydraulic energy associated with hybrid electric propulsion, which all bring technology to the service of ecology.”
The beach club has a pool, drop-down sides and sugar-scoop swim platforms and is overlooked by two aft VIP cabins
The yacht’s spectacular social areas include 200sqm (2,150sqft) of outdoor space including a beach club with a pool, drop-down sides and large sugar-scoop swim platforms.
The vast flybridge can be shaded by biminis and features multiple sofas, loungers and a bar, while the foredeck has sunken lounging areas either side of a jacuzzi.

The interior space also covers more than 200sqm and includes a large saloon to starboard and a dining table and bar to port.
Forward to port is a huge, enclosed galley, while starboard is a 22sqm master cabin with a forward-facing bed and private exterior access.
Aft steps on both sides lead to spectacular VIP cabins that each look out on to the beach club and sea. The interior décor, furniture and fittings can be customised for the owner.

Pajot unveils Catamaran 110’ Eco Yacht design
Thursday, August 27th, 2020
Written by: Marine Industry News
Marc Pajot has revealed his latest design, an eco-yacht.
Involved in the design of racing multihulls since 1980, highly decorated sailor Pajot says the ‘radically innovative superyacht catamaran project’ is a combination of new and coordinated concepts.
It’s been created by a team including Nicolas Fauroux, engineer at the forefront of naval architecture for 40 years, and Franck de Rivoyre and Christophe Larose, structural and rigging engineers. Pajot says several shipyards with a strong international reputation are currently being consulted.
Its eco credentials come in the form of an economical and environmentally friendly hybrid operation including low drag of catamaran hulls, hybrid propulsion by electric motors and sails, service power supplied by hydrodynamic generators, and a large solar panels area of 70 m² (752 sq ft).
It means, says Pajot: “No more heavy, complicated, fuel-consuming and noisy yachts. Catamaran hulls with a low hydrodynamic drag, a simple and efficient sail system, a large source of solar and hydraulic energy associated with hybrid electric propulsion bring technology to the service of ecology, [it’s the] birth of a real E yacht.”
He says the assembly of the hull structure and the aluminium nacelle, the composite coachroof and flybridge superstructures, and the carbon rig, embellished with new design features, create a combination unprecedented on the market.

Eco catamaran from Pajot Custom Yachts
Marc Pageot presents a radically innovative catamaran project. As a result of the collaboration of a team of specialists, the 110-foot superyacht is a combination of new and harmonious concepts.
Innovation for comfort and sustainability
Marc Pageot is an Olympic medalist, winner of the 1982 Route du Rhum and twice America's Cup semi-finalist. Since 1980 he has been involved in the creation of high-tech racing multihulls, and since 2001 in the brokerage of luxury catamarans, as well as sailing and motor yachts.
New creation by Pajot Custom Yachts combines innovation with time-tested solutions. This allows the catamaran to achieve all the features and attributes of a superyacht. The design itself is unprecedented in the market. Aluminum cockpit, composite roof and flybridge, as well as carbon armament with the latest design solutions.
This catamaran harmoniously combines first-class seaworthiness, ease of maintenance and luxury comfort. The dimensions of the main structural elements and the power plant are predetermined to create ideal uniformity. The style of the interior and the details are made to order - they can be adapted for the sake of exclusivity and full compliance with the individuality of the owner. Even the layouts and 3D renderings convey this idea of comfort and performance: it is embodied in two lovely VIP cabins aft, from which there is access to a large beach club.
The philosophy of the Eco Yacht project embodies 6 main characteristics:
- Economical and environmentally friendly hybrid operation.
- Universal driving performance.
- Ease of sail handling and efficiency.
- Spacious and cozy outdoor areas.
- Custom interior.
- A team of talented and friendly professionals.
In essence, it is a synthesis of engineering with art for maximum pleasure at sea.
Economical and environmentally friendly hybrid operation
Due to the lower resistance of the enclosures, sailing catamaran is the most suitable type of vessel to optimize energy efficiency as well as reducing noise and carbon dioxide emissions to the lowest possible level. Hybrid engines allow heavy generators with batteries to be placed in the center of the yacht to save space aft. In addition, due to the excellent hydrodynamic properties of the housings, much less energy is consumed.
A solar panel system with an area of over 70 m² is installed on board. Combined with a hydrodynamic generator, these “green sources” provide enough energy to meet the daily needs of the catamaran. Batteries eliminate fossil fuels and keep anchorages quiet at night. Thus, the eco-catamaran can sail in coastal waters, ports or protected areas with absolutely no harmful emissions, noise, vibration or odors at a distance of up to 30 nautical miles.
And this is just a basic technical minimum. At the request of the owner, the characteristics can be changed and supplemented.
Excellent seaworthiness
The architectural solutions and power plants of the catamaran have been designed to provide calmness and serenity in all conditions - whether under sail or on a motor. Through strict weight reduction and centering, the developers have achieved maximum stability and balance.
For the hulls and bridge, the developers chose aluminum because of its flexibility, which allows it to experiment with modifications and introduce know-how from different shipyards. This allows the weight and resistance to be optimally distributed in the right places. Also, aluminum is durable and easy to maintain and repair.
The composite was chosen for the superstructure for its aesthetic appearance, lightness and insulating properties. For armament, carbon was used for an excellent combination of lightness and rigidity. This union of materials is the best solution to combine quality, durability, reasonable displacement and construction costs.
In the center of the hull there is a mast without a boom and an engine room with generators and batteries. The electric motors are further aft as they are not as heavy. The bridge clearance of more than 1.6 m, smooth bows and relatively narrow hulls guarantee the catamaran a smooth ride without slamming, while the energy consumption is very moderate.
Equipped with two centerboards, the hull can move upwind and reduce water resistance downwind and under load. Thus, the 110-meter giant will even reach such sea areas and anchorages, where only boats usually pass. Skegs allow you to lift a yacht to the shore or dock without the help of rails or special mounts.
Innovative sailing plan
At the heart of this concept lies the development of a high performance sailing plan that allows high cruising speeds to be achieved and is simple and safe to operate. A narrow and efficient rectangular mainsail with an area of only 181 m². The absence of a boom makes it very easy and safe to handle the rigging, especially when turning fordewind. It is also safe to lift and stow - it simply folds onto the deck, into the compartment on the flybridge, using a carriage system.
Another advantage is the triangular shape of the head sails, which gives the best performance on straight courses and reduces the lead load depending on the wind. Their area:
- jib - 110 m²;
- genoa - 264 m²;
- gennaker - 790 m².
Spacious and comfortable layout
Thanks to the use of a significant part of the total length of the hull, it was possible to expand the living space from the inside and outside, as well as to arrange them on the same level. The flybridge area is more than 100 m² and allows you to enjoy your time in the bar, solarium or dining room without interference from the crew.
The forward deck can be accessed from the inside through side doors. It is also very spacious and can be equipped with a jacuzzi if required. The new design was created for very long sugarscoop transoms, which can be transformed into private terraces or a beach club at will. Together with the lowered hydraulic platform, the sugarscoop forms a huge bathing area never seen before on a catamaran of this size - it even fits a Williams 625 brine. The chic finish of this zone is the counterflow pool.
The layout and interiors can be modulated and customized to suit the owner's wishes for the individuality and exclusivity of the superyacht. A freeboard of about 3 m allows the VIP cabins to be positioned on the same level as the sugarscoop. On the 100 m² main deck, there is a large saloon, a bar-dining room, a separate galley and a master cabin with panoramic views. Crew cabins were made high enough and with direct access to the galley and engine room. Thus, the catamaran will comfortably accommodate 8-12 guests and 4-6 crew members.
Team of professionals
A whole constellation of yachting professionals worked on the project.
Marc Pazho is a decisive leader in project implementation, has been successfully engaged in yachting at a high level since childhood and has experience in team management. He has designed and developed yachts on which he has shone, participating in transatlantic races, both with a full crew and alone: Elf Aquitaine, America's Cup French Kiss, Ville de Paris. As a brokerage, he led successful projects such as Wally 100 and Tango.
Nicolas Faro has been an engineer at the forefront of naval architecture for 40 years. He has left his mark on the world of sailing superyachts and has also featured in the refurbishment of many classic yachts.
Frank de Rivoir and Christophe Laros are civil and installation engineers. Participated in one of the greatest multihull world records - Foncia and Groupama. They have been in the multihull yachting industry since its inception, and have contributed to the emergence of the catamaran as a platform for superyachting. Their firm has passed 80 % catamarans over 18 m in length. They currently consult several shipyards with a strong reputation in the international market.

Two major innovations to be featured: a centered carbon mast with no boom (with a mainsail that comes out of, and stows back in a locker, so is set on an all-or-nothing basis) and VIP aft cabins giving onto the sugarscoops - which transform into a beach club thanks to retractable hull sides. The Eco Yacht intends to use these new concepts to convince superyacht owners to build a multihull superyacht. More info in our next issue, MW173.
