A billionaire NFL owner's superyacht is now available for charter. It'll cost you.

  • NFL owner Shahid Khan's superyacht Kismet is available for charter at $3 million a week.
  • Kismet, which will debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, features luxury amenities and can host 12 guests.
  • Added costs for provisions, gratuities, and taxes can raise the weekly charter cost to $5.4 million.

Want to vacation like a billionaire? You can — for $3 million a week.

The superyacht belonging to Shahid Khan, the owner of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars who is worth $13.3 billion, according to Forbes, is officially available for charter.

Kismet, Khan's new yacht, will make her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month.

The 122-meter yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests — and a crew of 36 available to serve them — and, like any superyacht worth its weight, has some special amenities .

A "Balinese-inspired" spa features a hammam, sauna, and cryotherapy chamber, as well as a massage table and chromotherapy bathtub offering some sort of color-related treatment. For more active wellness, there's a gym, basketball court, and pickleball court.

There are three pools — two are jacuzzis — spread over six decks, four outdoor showers, four bars, four fireplaces, two fire pits, and one helipad. For your viewing pleasure, there is an outdoor cinema, and for your listening pleasure, a DJ booth and grand piano.

And because billionaires love to play, there is a suite of water toys aboard, including Jet Skis, SeaBobs, e-foils, and WaveRunners.

Khan is a committed superyacht owner. His previous superyacht, also named Kismet, was purchased by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt last year. While its final sales price was not disclosed, it was listed for about $160 million. Renamed Whisper, the yacht was built by the same German shipyard as the new Kismet, Lürssen, and measured 95 meters.

"The yacht has exceeded all expectations of the client for whom we have built his third yacht in total," Peter Lürssen, a managing partner at Lürssen, said in a statement about the newest Kismet.

Kismet is the largest yacht on display at the Monaco Yacht Show, which will feature 120 superyachts . Renaissance, the second largest at 112 meters, charters for the same weekly price of $3 million.

While the nine-figure sales prices of these yachts make their seven-figure charter rates seem like a bargain, renting out a superyacht is not for the faint of wallet. In addition to the charter fee, there are costs associated with provisions which can come to as much as 40% of the fee; gratuities, as much as 20% of the fee; and taxes, also as much as 20%. That means a week aboard the Kismet can actually cost as much as $5.4 million.

Russian billionaire is behind mansion that housed Harry and Meghan, leaked files show

Offshore trust bought $18m oceanfront estate, known as mille fleurs, in 2013.

yacht megan owner

Social Sharing

It's been an international enigma for the last two years: Who really owns the lavish Vancouver Island estate where Prince Harry and Meghan wintered in 2020 as they reportedly hashed out their plan to step back from official royal duties?

Is it the Russian-born billionaire who several media outlets linked to the property? Is it Canadian mining magnate Frank Giustra, as (erroneously) reported by the New York Post's Page Six?

CBC and Radio-Canada found the answer, and it does indeed involve a Russian, but it wasn't easy — it took an international leak of tax-haven data, access to a company's internal records and intense research. All that, experts say, shows once again just how opaque Canada is when it comes to assets like real estate and who owns it.

"It is very easy for criminals around the world to be laundering their dirty money in Canada and buying real estate," said Kevin Comeau, a lawyer and financial transparency expert. "And we have no way of knowing who they are or [the] ability to chase their money. "

From B.C. to Caribbean to Channel Islands

There is no suggestion of criminality surrounding the Mille Fleurs mansion in North Saanich, about 30 kilometres up the island from Victoria. But it certainly shields its owner well.

For starters, unlike with most properties in B.C., you can't find it in the provincial land registry.

That's because the mansion isn't registered as a single property, but is part of a stretch of oceanfront land on the Saanich Peninsula owned by a corporation called the Towner Bay Country Club. Each homeowner on the land has shares in the country club corresponding to their lot.

The club's records are not public. But CBC/Radio-Canada was able to review an internal spreadsheet that tracks club owners' property tax. It lists a British Virgin Islands company called JEMC Management as the owner of Mille Fleurs.

The exterior of a mansion is pictured.

Corporate records in the British Virgin Islands don't disclose a company's shareholders. So the ownership trail would normally stop cold here, but for a stroke of luck: The Pandora Papers — the huge cache of leaked tax-haven records obtained by the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, and shared with CBC/Radio-Canada — shows that JEMC Management is owned by another company, registered in the Bahamas, called Orland Properties.

Orland, in turn, is owned by a trust called the Andromeda Trust, formed under the laws of the Bailiwick of Jersey, a tiny tax haven off the coast of France. The trustee is a company whose sole officer lives in Cyprus.

But whose money is behind that?

The Andromeda connection

Two years ago, as speculation about who was really hosting Harry and Meghan hit fever pitch, a name that kept emerging was billionaire venture capitalist Yuri Milner, arguably the highest-profile Russian-born investor in Silicon Valley.

Milner is reported to spend time with celebrities on a superyacht — a boat also called Andromeda — and he knows Canadian music producer David Foster, whose wife knows Meghan Markle from their school days.

Foster, a 16-time Grammy winner, even gave an interview to Britain's Daily Mail about the mansion in 2020 , where he said he's been friends with the mansion owner for years. The music producer said that, although Milner wasn't the owner, he had helped Milner rent the house "about five or six years ago… for a short time."

Yuri Milner, Katharine McPhee and David Foster are pictured left to right, in formal attire.

Milner-run investment funds took early positions in Facebook and Twitter before those companies went public, stakes that generated mega profits. But as journalists revealed in 2017, about half the capital for his firm's investments in Twitter came from VTB Bank, the No. 2 bank in Russia, which is majority-owned by the state.

"It's probably one of the two banks that fund most connected government officials and oligarchs," said Jamison Firestone, who practised business law in Moscow for nearly two decades and has become a leading figure in the global campaign against Russian state corruption. He called VTB "a slush fund" for the Russian government.

Milner's Facebook play, meanwhile, was partly seeded with money from a company that had itself obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in loans from a subsidiary of the Russian state energy company Gazprom, the same media investigation showed . An oligarch named Alisher Usmanov ran the Gazprom subsidiary and eventually obtained a stake in Milner's Facebook investment.

Milner has said he was just doing business, seeking funders and making investments. While VTB Bank and Gazprom are under sanctions in Canada, the U.S. and the EU, that didn't start until 2014 — three years after he raised the money.

A spokesperson for Milner told CBC that the VTB funding was paid back that year, and that Milner has not raised capital from Russian investors since 2011. Usmanov was only added to Canada's sanction list this March. Milner has never been sanctioned, and isn't generally considered to be an oligarch.

Milner's about-face

In early April, CBC asked Milner whether he directly or indirectly owns the estate where the royals spent Christmas and New Year's in 2019-2020.

The reply came from Alice McGillion of New York-based reputation management firm Rubenstein: "We can officially confirm, as we have consistently done [in] the past, that neither Yuri Milner nor any family member nor any entity affiliated with him or his family owns Mille Fleurs mansion on Vancouver Island or any other property in Canada." McGillion referred CBC to the interview given by music producer Foster.

However, documents found by CBC News in the Pandora Papers leak reveal that the Andromeda Trust — the Jersey-constituted entity atop the chain of offshore companies leading down to the Mille Fleurs property — didn't always go by that name.

Until February 2016, it was called the Yury Milner Trust (variations in the English spelling of Russian names are common).

A diagram shows the ownership structure behind the Mille Fleurs mansion in North Saanich, B.C.

A letter written by a lawyer for Milner in 2018, found in the leak, explains the trust's origins: "The person who contributed the assets," it says, "was Yury Milner."

The letter continues, "The potential beneficiaries of the Andromeda Trust include charities, relatives and friends of Yury Milner."

Another record says that before 2015, "Yury Milner exercised control over" a series of companies including JEMC Management, which bought the Mille Fleurs mansion.

CBC News went back to Milner with these findings. The response this time was quite different.

McGillion sent another statement, asking that it be attributed to an unnamed "trust spokesperson."

The statement admitted that Milner's trust, funded by him, bought the mansion in 2013. It acknowledged that, in fact, Milner himself was a beneficiary of the trust at the time. And it reiterated that Prince Harry and Meghan's stay was arranged by David Foster.

  • Listen Pandora Papers reveal 'shadow economy' of the rich and powerful
  • Money laundering funded $5.3B in B.C. real estate purchases in 2018, report reveals

The statement explained this all by saying, however, that Milner and his wife decided in 2013 to pledge to give away the majority of their wealth to charity. The next year, Milner had himself removed as a beneficiary of the trust he'd created, in favour of newly formed charitable foundations that the statement didn't name. In 2018, all his relatives were also removed as possible beneficiaries, the statement adds.

He is therefore no longer "affiliated with" the mansion, the statement said.

It also confirmed that Milner has a similar trust arrangement for the 107-metre superyacht Andromeda — a vessel he has until now denied owning, but has a knack for being spotted partying and vacationing on. The statement said he is not "affiliated" with the yacht, either.

Firestone, the former Moscow lawyer, said it's a legal distinction without much of a difference.

"If you have the exclusive use of something, you basically have all the benefits of owning it without having to be legally owning it," he said. "So yes, he may not be the owner, but he may very well be the ultimate beneficiary, which is basically the same thing for all this stuff."

WATCH | CBC traces mansion's ownership

Who owns B.C. mansion that housed Harry and Meghan?

'we don't have the tools right now'.

The mystery of the Vancouver Island mansion shows how thorny it can be to find out who really owns property in Canada, which can make it immensely difficult to confront the scourge of money laundering in Canadian real estate, or to confiscate the riches of Russian oligarchs, transparency expert Comeau said.

"We don't have the tools right now in order to be finding, let alone seizing, those assets. You can't seize them until you identify them and connect them back to those Russian oligarchs."

In a Canadian first, B.C. enacted a public transparency database for property that's supposed to be fully operational in November.

Meanwhile, the federal and provincial governments have been in discussions since 2019 on setting up registries to track the real owners behind corporate entities like companies and partnerships. Justin Trudeau's Liberals originally promised it by 2025, but amid the fresh urgency of the unprecedented sanctions against Russia and a number of oligarchs, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland promised in her budget speech last week to bump that up to 2023, at least for federally incorporated companies.

Responding to a question from Radio-Canada last week, Freeland said that while it will be difficult to also get every province to agree to adopt what's known as beneficial ownership transparency for provincially registered corporations, it is "really important" for democracy and the economy.

"My hope is that we are in a moment where there is a real national consensus," she said. "We need to know what money is flowing into assets in Canada."

Do you want to look like a pro even on your first run out to sea? Well then, slow and steady wins the race. Pilot your craft with grace: steer with slow, sure movements and you will be off to a great start in the world of classy yachting.

Motor Yacht

#2: Create a Yacht Launch Checklist

Create a yacht launch checklist with everything you will need on your yacht for smooth sailing ! You might want to remind yourself about simple things, like keeping a VHF handheld on board (these are radios you can use to contact surrounding crafts or someone onshore for help in case of a storm: channel 16 is the international distress channel).

Be sure to check through your list as part of your final checks before launching. This can be very helpful in case anything slips your mind and has “missed the boat.” Nobody wants to be without on the waves!

#3: Prep Your Yacht for Launch Away from the Launch Ramp

Nobody wants to be that guy at the launch ramp who looks like he doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing.

Take our advice, and before backing your yacht into the launch area, make sure you have done all of the pre-launch prep that you can beforehand (such as attaching your dock line ), so you don’t hold up any boaters who might be behind you.

Showing consideration for others is a wonderful part of the yachting world, and boaters and yachters alike will appreciate your understanding of this!

Motor Yacht

#4: Dress in Layers!

Pile on the layers when you go out to sea. It may be tempting to just jump out of bed in shorts and sandals and head on down to the water, and we don’t blame! Many experienced yachters know, however, that it’s a good idea to layer up when heading out to sea. The weather on the water can be vastly different from the shore.

With just a pair of shorts on, you may find yourself wishing for that snazzy-looking windbreaker you left behind! If it happens to be warm out on the ocean, it’s definitely easy to de-layer. But preparation can make you a comfortable boatman on this point.

#5: Pay Attention to the Weather

Be attentive to weather forecasts , and make sure you are flexible with your plans if the weather takes a turn for the worse. Rough seas can be hard to handle for even the most seasoned sailor, and you don’t want to be lost somewhere calling mayday on the deep blue sea! Check your local channel forecasts before setting sail!

Also, while you’re out, if the weather starts to get a little ominous, it might be a good idea to head back to the slip. Choppy waters are hard to navigate and may turn your adventure into a headache! Weather the storm in the marina for a much better and more relaxing experience.

#7: Check Your Anchor

Before sailing, check on your anchor and chain. Untangle if necessary and do a quick check of the links. You don’t want a tangled chain if you need to do a quick anchor drop sometime during your voyage!

Sometimes emergencies may require that you anchor quickly, but a tangled anchor chain can kind of slow that whole process down. Be smart, be prepared, and check on that anchor.

#8: Be a Good Navigator

While you are out at sea, you may get distracted by the guests on your yacht, the beautiful scenery, the lovely weather, and all kinds of other things.  But make sure you have a destination plan and know your landmarks.

Also, keep in mind that modern technical equipment can be very useful for finding your way around, so having a working knowledge of equipment on your craft is definitely advised. Use landmarks and navigational tools to keep on track so you don’t lose your way!

#8: Follow Capacity Guidelines for Your Craft

It really is pretty helpful to follow the full capacity suggestions for your craft before putting your yacht to sea. “The more the merrier” is a true enough, but you might find a greater truth to be “the more the soggier…” in the case of an overloaded sea craft!

Thanks for sharing, it’s useful!

Most welcome – hopefully we can inspire you to jump from the road to the water! … Re the name driving directions :)

First of all, I didn’t know anything much about a Yacht, apart from the fact that it’s too cool and looks gorgeous. Lol, so your post educated me about Yacht and I’m glad to know that there are so many things to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing Megan :)

So glad we could help you out with learning something new! But you’re definitely right that they’re cool and gorgeous too :D

Owning my own yacht is like a dream. If that dream ever comes true, then your pointers are going to come to my rescue as I gloat over my new acquisition. On a serious note, the post is really very informative and interesting as well.

So glad you enjoyed the information Sandy & Vyjay! Will keep our fingers crossed for you that a yacht is in your not too distant future :)

Wait, you guys bought a yacht? Or is this just an exceptionally well-researched article from a non-yacht-owner? Years ago I went sailing a bunch of times (with someone else in charge of the vital task of navigation), but I can’t imagine dealing with the responsibilities and hassles of actually owning a vessel. And I would always get nervous when the weather started to look ominous, like would we make it to port in time? Your photo of the lightning is beautiful, though, but that’s definitely something best appreciated when you’re not actually out on the water. One time, the thunderstorm came just after we had tied up in the marina, and we were still on the boat, and a bolt of lightning hit either our mast or one of a boat nearby, and it felt like our boat JUMPED.

We have friends who recently purchased one – very jealous! You’re right though there are a huge amount of responsibilities which come with owning one – obviously totally worthwhile though if you enjoy the lifestyle and the mode of travel which comes with it :)

Happy you liked the photos! I actually really love watching storms, and they make for amazingly dramatic photos, but yes, I don’t think it’s ever something you get used to when you’re actually right there in the thick of it with nothing around you but sea!

Happy travels Harvey!

A lot of good tips and insights for driving a yacht! For me, I am mostly the passenger of a yacht so, it’s great to know that actually there are a lot of things to pay attention to! @ knycx.journeying

Glad you enjoyed the post Kenny! Yes, being a passenger is just as much fun too!

What a dream it would be to be a yacht owner! But, we know nothing about driving a boat. Seems hard, so for now we’d stick to being the passenger. What a nice and fun thing to own though!

Being a passenger is a great compromise :)

Awesome post! Definitely some very helpful info and advice. Dressing in layers is certainly important to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Selene – glad you enjoyed the post!

These are amazing tips. I like that you remind new owners on thinking about the weather changes because many would not think that. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks McKenzie, glad the post was helpful for you :) Yes, being prepared for weather changes is one which most tend to learn the hard way!

Yacht Girl Meg: The Unveiling of Megan Markle’s Lavish Yachting Past

In a shocking revelation, Yacht Boy Jones has presented undeniable evidence that Meghan Markle, also known as Meg, was indeed a Yacht Girl and even participated in Croatia Yacht Week.

This revelation provides irrefutable proof of her association with millionaires and billionaires in the world of yachting.

The term “yachting” has often been associated with exclusive opportunities available only to the wealthy.

However, it seems that the definition has expanded to include 18 yachting jobs accessible to affluent men from all corners of the globe.

According to the National Enquirer, in 2017, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, efforts were made to erase any traces of Meghan’s extravagant past.

Her court medical records were sealed, and her friends and acquaintances were silenced through hush money and non-disclosure agreements.

The confirmation of Meghan’s involvement in yachting came from a witness named Christopher Jones, who had worked alongside her.

Christopher himself was a Yacht Boy, engaging in various activities on yachts in exchange for money, connections, or career advancement.

It was Christopher who first revealed Meghan’s past as a Yacht Girl, a revelation that has undoubtedly shaped her future.

The absence of any legal action from Meghan regarding these claims only adds weight to the credibility of the witness.

It appears that she can only hope that more of her former colleagues do not come forward, as the truth seems inevitable.

In the digital age, nothing truly disappears, and too many people are aware of the facts.

Photographs from Megan Markle’s yacht days have emerged, capturing her carefree moments during a cruise to Croatia.

In one post, she wrote about the opportunity for others to join her and her friends for Yacht Week, highlighting the allure of being associated with wealthy and influential individuals.

Additional accounts from Meghan’s former colleagues reveal that she was invited to Yacht Week in 2016, an event that has since been described as a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah at sea.

These revelations have sparked further speculation, with the author Kirby Summers, known for her biography of Ghislaine Maxwell, suggesting that Meghan’s actions were influenced by the same forces that controlled Jeffrey Epstein.

It is worth noting that Meghan had previously claimed not to know Adam Hawking, who had asked her to join him for a week of yachting in Croatia.

However, their interaction on social media suggests otherwise, leaving room for intrigue and curiosity.

As more details emerge, it becomes evident that Meghan Markle shared too much information about her yachting experiences.

The implications of this revelation remain uncertain, but it is clear that her secrets are no longer confined to the shadows.

In conclusion, the unveiling of Meghan Markle’s lavish yachting past has sent shockwaves through the media.

The evidence provided by Yacht Boy Jones and the testimonies of her former colleagues paint a picture of a world filled with opulence and secrecy.

While Meghan may hope to leave her past behind, the truth has a way of finding its way into the light.

yacht owners richard and wife val

My life in boats: Why boats are a big part of this owner's precious time as he approaches retirement

After moving on board full-time for an extended period, the owner of the 25.8-metre Horizon yacht Valiant tells Kate Lardy how he loves captaining his own yacht, figuring out maintenance tasks on board and how he and his wife learned to live with a lot less "stuff".

I grew up on boats. My parents always had a fishing boat out of Atlantic City and I was kind of like their deckhand. My wife, Val, started boating when she met me. After college and medical school, we looked for a practice near the water and moved to the North Shore of Long Island.

My dad bought us our first boat, a 3.7-metre jet boat, but we soon realised that we needed something safer for our small children and moved on to a series of Sea Rays, from 10 metres to 15 metres. On our next boat, a 17-metre Neptunus , which we had for 12 years, I did a lot of the work, including rebuilding both helm stations.

That was what got me started doing mechanical work. We sold that and custom-built a 20-metre Marlow . When I retired from my practice as an ophthalmologist, I told Val I wanted to move on board full-time, and she said, “OK, but we need a bigger boat.”

In Annapolis on our Marlow, I stalked a guy sitting on the back of his Horizon drinking coffee. Finally, I said, “Excuse me, can I talk to you about your boat?” He’s now a good friend of ours. He has a Horizon E88 and loves it.

He took me on, we crawled around and we ended up building this E81 with Horizon. I appreciate how they prioritise accessibility for service and maintenance, and they’ve been nothing but terrific. If I were to build another boat, I’d have a hard time looking at another company.

Right now, we have a really good situation because Val and I run the boat, which is 25.8 metres overall, with just one crew for cleaning. I’m the captain and I do most of the maintenance. I love projects. The boat provides me with an endless source of stimulation and entertainment. A job might pop up that I have no idea how to do, but then I get to figure it out. If I can’t do it, I’ll find the right guy who’ll teach me. I’ve learned how to do so many things.

When we took delivery three years ago, we moved on board full-time for a year and a half, then I started a new business; now we are here about 70 percent of the time. After a day or two at the house, we can’t wait to get back on the boat. We’ve learned to live with a lot less stuff.

I did have to give up my pinball machines — they’re still in the house, I just don’t get to see them as much — but I’m happiest on the water. Waking up on the boat is great; the view is always spectacular and the dogs like it.

We’ve been all over the place: Key West, the Exumas, Charleston, Nantucket, Boston... We bought a dock — which incidentally came with a house — on the North Fork of Long Island. After November 1, Sunset Harbor Yacht Club in Miami Beach is our home port. It’s really a special place with like-minded people.

Next month I’m selling my business, merging with a company that’s planning national franchises. They wanted me to be the national medical director, but I said no; that would take me away from my boat too much. I’m getting back to being retired and my QTR — quality time remaining.
