Landyachtz 2023 Board Lineup

Landyachtz has been one of the most consistent longboard brands in the industry for years, and this year's lineup is sure to please skaters of all types. There are so many new and existing Landyachtz skateboards and longboards that they are challenging to put into categories, but we'll do our best to point out some of our favorites for each style of riding.

Longboards are boards made for beginners and everyday riders who use them to get around. They are set up with bigger, longboard-style trucks and bigger softer wheels for lots of roll speed and grip. Some of the most well-known models are the Drop-Hammer , Battle Axe , Drop-Cat, and Top-Cat. These boards are more stable, easier to learn to footbrake and slow down on, and slide sideways. There are also top-mount style longboards made for tighter turns, a surfy feel, and a lively ride. Two new Landyachtz favorites are the Ripper and Dipper .

Cruisers are smaller, more nimble boards that get the rider short distances with little effort and a lot of fun! They are set up with smaller soft wheels and, usually, traditional-style skateboard trucks. The Dinghy is a staple for Landyachtz and they have many different versions with slight adjustments in shape and form, along with loads of graphic options. Some newer cruiser boards now available are the Schooner , Slim Jim , ATV , and their Surfskate boards custom-built with Bear Trucks .

Surfskates have been a recent addition to the Landyachtz lineup and in general, a popular new style of boards made by a few other brands. Landyachtz's version centers around their brand of trucks called Bear Trucks. The front truck is a RKP (Reverse Kingpin) with tall bushings for extra sharp turns. It is balanced out with a TKP (Traditional Kingpin) that feels like the back truck of a regular skateboard allowing proper use of the kicktail. They are on the smaller side like cruiser boards but turn like nobody's business, creating a sharp turn on flat ground. This feeling is what surfers enjoy because it mimics the tight cut-back turns done on surfboards riding on ocean waves. They come in an array of models like the Pocket Knife , Surf Life Dark Wave , Groveler , and Butter Spectrum .

Downhill and Freeride Boards are longboards are built for speed and stability and grouped into two types:

Top-Mount boards have more leverage and won't slide out as easily at speed allowing them to grip corners better at higher speeds.

Drop-Thru and Drop-Down designs allow boards to slide more easily and are great for learning stand-up slides. Usually, beginner freeriders start with the lowered design and then graduate to a top-mount longboard that they can both go fast on and slide at higher speeds on. Some of the most popular Landyatchz downhill and freeride boards are the Switchblade , Evo , Freedive Reef , Fixed Blade , and Blaze .

The most beautiful style of longboarding is Longboard Dancing . Landyachtz has been making longboards for dancing and freestyle since this style of longboarding came onto the scene around 2018. The boards are long and narrow, have two same-sized kicks on each end, and are lightweight with some flex. Riders cross-step like on a surfboard but also spin around, ride backward, and dance around on a moving platform! Yes, it's fun to watch but takes a lot of practice to master and create a personal style. It's a very attractive and accessible form of longboarding because it's done on flat ground at low speed, and can be done almost anywhere. Riders also pick up the board, flip it around all kinds of ways, and jump back on it. Putting all the various moves together is quite a thrill! Landyachtz's two main dancer models are the Stratus which comes in a 46” size and the Tony Danza at 40”. Both have various versions with different graphics to choose from.

We hope this info helps you decide which style of longboard is best for you and how you want to ride. We often see new riders going for dancer or drop-thru style longboards to learn the basics. Then some want to experience the thrill of speed and go for downhill and/or freeride boards. Or you can go smaller and more compact like the cruiser or surfskate boards to have fun in between classes or to get around town on. You can't go wrong but it's nice to have options! HOW WE MAKE THE BEST CRUISER BOARDS

We’ve been making boards for a long time. The Dinghy has been a part of the Landyachtz lineup for 18 YEARS. It’s been lovingly referred to as the best cruiser board by our staff and team. We tend to put a ton of time into designing and developing our boards and the Dinghy is no exception. It’s been in our line for nearly 2 decades now and has been put through its paces all over the world. Our team take Dinghies with them whenever they travel. Over the years we’ve refined its shape, and improved the components making it the perfect shredder for almost any kind of terrain. We test and test and then test again…which really means we are out skating all the time! The Dinghy shape has evolved over the years, all in the pursuit of creating a well rounded, capable board that’s a blast to skate. We started simple, with a flatish deck that had a very subtle tail. We then went narrow, added a kick tail and slight nose. This board was a blast, but took some skill to conquer. The dinghy is meant to be accessible so we pushed the shape to include a more practical kick tail, wider foot platform and wheel wells that allow for larger soft wheels. The modern Dinghy is an evolution of years of skating and trial and error, we’re definitely stoked on where its at now.

THE BEST CRUISERS COME WITH THE BEST COMPONENTS

Cheap cruisers come with garbage components. They may look cool, but they don’t feel cool! That’s why we’ve developed dozens of wheels and tested hundreds of urethane formulas. More on that here. Knowing how you want the board to perform and creating a custom wheel that has the perfect slide/grip balance is the key to function. 63mm Fatty Hawgs where developed specifically for the Dinghy. They have the size, balance, and speed that let you take this board over just about any terrain you encounter.

Functional cruiser trucks were a challenge to find. If you look at the cruiser skateboards on Amazon, you’re going to see no name trucks and wheels slapped on the decks. For a cruiser to perform perfectly out of box you need strength for big wheels, geometry for nimble carving, quality bushings for long lasting rebound, precise axles and faced hangers for a tight fit. Bear has been developing trucks to meet the demands of skaters who expect the best from their gear. We created the Polar Bear 105 to meet our needs, and yours!

CRUISING AROUND TOWN

This board is perfectly compact yet still perfectly comfortable to ride. You can strap this to your backpack, throw it in a locker, or easily keep it in your car. It hardly takes up any room while opening a lot of possibilities. Everything we’ve done to our Dinghy boards was done with the goal of helping you have more fun than you ever thought you’d be able to have while simply cruising around town. They’re smooth, capable and maneuverable and feel dialed under your feet. Over the years we’ve added a handful of shape and size variations, offering more variety to suit your skating style.

The Classic Dinghy shape has been the cornerstone of our cruiser lineup for many years now and it continues to deliver good times. At 28.5″ long and 8″ wide, it’s an agile city cruiser that can go where many boards can’t. The Classic Dinghy is pressed with 7 plies of Canadian maple for a light, stiff and poppy ride. It comes set up with Polar Bear 105mm trucks for maximum agility and a super-tight turning circle. 63mm 78a Fatty Hawgs wheels finish off the setup and ensure you’ll have a smooth ride with plenty of roll speed and grip without having to worry about wheel bite.

FLEX RATING: 3 So, what’s flex and why is it important to a skateboard? In skate-nerd terms, flex is the amount of displacement a deck sees when a specific amount of force is applied to it. Check out our formula to the left! There are a few factors that affect flex, like deck thickness, wheelbase, and the amount of force on a deck. We built a machine and put our entire lineup to the test by applying the exact same amount of force to all our boards and measured the displacement we saw in each. This gives a totally scientific and accurate flex range across our entire line! It’s important to understand flex when choosing a board. Here are some basics: Downhill/freeride skateboards will have less flex because you need a stiff platform to stand on when you’re bombing or gripping a corner at speed. Carving skateboards will have more flex, giving you the ability to sink into your turns and pump or carve with ease. Most cruisers, dance and ATV boards will have less flex for control when doing tricks but just enough to be forgiving when pushing around town. We’ve engineered our boards with the best flex for each style of riding but remember, flex is subjective so get out a see what you like the most! TRUCKS POLAR BEAR 130MM Some of us still like to ride a board that is a bit on the narrower-side. And, of course, you need trucks to match it. If you step down in board size then it's time to step it up to the 130mm Polar Bears. Sold in pairs. Bushings: 85a is softer, 90a is harder. Softer bushings are more lively but less stable - with 88a being what we usually use in our completes. WHEELS 60MM CHUBBY HAWGS Chubby Hawgs are the wheel of choice on many of our cruiser and ATV completes and are now available separately in all the colours of the rainbow! You can upgrade your cruiser set up today. They use the same high-quality urethane found in the Fatty Hawgs for premium performance, just in a smaller package.
