The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! Sailing holidays on a yacht rental is not just for sailors. It is for everyone seeking something more than the sea, the sun, and a sunbed. We provide professionally trained skippers for those who wish to rent a yacht and enjoy relaxing sailing holidays in Greece or those who wish to get involved and learn the ropes and the sails during a skippered yacht charter in Greece. After all, learning how to sail is easy. Depending on crew eagerness, our skipper will not only show how to navigate but will also provide firsthand knowledge of the Greek island destinations.

Our skippers are hospitable, friendly, discrete and knowledgeable about every destination and you will discuss together your preferences and plan your route. Choosing a skippered yacht charter, you also hire the skipper who will take care of the yacht for you and will ensure that you get the most out of your sailing holidays in Greece. When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).

3 WAYS TO CHARTER A YACHT

We provide a selection of three charter options: Bareboat Charters , Skippered Charters , and Crewed Charters . Opting for a Bareboat Charter means you have the freedom to captain the yacht yourself, requiring only a valid International Certificate of Competence (ICC). If you don't possess an ICC or simply prefer to sit back and relax, you have the option to have one of our experienced skippers join your journey, taking the helm for you. We collaborate with a network of highly skilled, multilingual professionals who are eager to come on board.

It's worth noting that some of our larger catamarans and motor yachts are exclusively available as Crewed Charters. With this option, a dedicated crew of at least two individuals, typically a skipper and a hostess or cook, will cater to your every need, ensuring a truly indulgent experience for you and your guests.

After Serifos, we sailed to Kimolos, which was absolutely adorable, very quiet and quaint, I think it has been Lauren’s favorite so far. Greece is quite simply the perfect sailing destination in Europe. Blessed with a mild southern Mediterranean climate with an extended summer giving a comfortable sailing season of close to eight months, our small country has over 13,000 kilometres of coastline to explore . That impressive number comes from the over 6000 islands and islets scattered like diamonds in the sea, each of them inviting you to swim for hours, socialise while tasting Greece’s well know cuisine and enjoy the beauty of a Greek summer spent next to the waves. Greece is truly a sailor’s paradise .

At Istion Yachting, we have been providing unforgettable sailing holidays in Greece for more than 30 years. From our humble beginnings on the island of Kos in 1992 we now offer charters throughout Greece from our 11 main charter bases. Our experienced skippers and crews, charter base staff, planning departments and every one of the wider Istion team is an expert in their field and is ready to assist you in planning the perfect sailing holiday in Greece . There are so many options, and only so much time. The diversity of the different sailing areas in Greece makes picking just one difficult, which is why so many of our guests come back to sail again and again . There is always another beautiful island to visit and another idyllic beach to swim on!

Peak sailing season is from late June through August with hot weather, warm seas and busy islands. Availability can become limited during this period so booking early is essential.

Late spring from May to June and late summer from September to early October are often considered the best time to sail for experienced sailors and repeat visitors to our country. The weather is great and the islands are more relaxed than the busy summer months.

For those who want to live the real Greek way of life, April and October can be rewarding, with less heat, fewer visitors and enticing low-season offers . A few of the restaurants and shops on some islands may not have opened or may have closed for the season, but in our opinion early and late season sailing in Greece is a magical and unique experience .

The Argo Saronic Gulf is actually two gulfs (the Saronic and Argolic ) that are often referred to together in sailing terms given their close distances to each other. The Saronic Gulf lies in between Athens and the coast of the Argolid Peninsula while the Argolic Gulf is one hop over in between the peninsula and the first large leg of the Eastern Peloponnese , which runs all the way south to Monemvasia.

We often recommend this area to first time sailors for a number of practical reasons. First and foremost, it is the easiest area to reach from Athens , which makes it an ideal spot for those arriving via the Athens International Airport. Within a few hours of touching down you can be swimming and relaxing on board having reached your first destination.

Another advantage is that the area is well protected from the annual Meltemi winds that can blow strongly in July and August and may create challenging conditions for less experienced sailors.

The Argo Saronic Gulf also has plenty of places to visit on either a one or two-week holiday. One-week holidays will usually take in the nearby islands of Aigina and Poros before looping down to the coastal town of Ermioni and the cosmopolitan islands of Spetses and Hydra further south. A visit to Epidavros for a quick trip to its famous ancient theatre is not to be missed for the history buffs.

Two week holidays allow you to explore further east, with the coastal towns of Nafpleio, Leonidio and Kyparissi offering relaxed mooring while cruising the coast of the Eastern Peloponnese.

Ah, the Cyclades. A name steeped in history that brings the classic image of a Greek island to everyone’s mind. While Greece has many island chains and all of them are unique and magical, the Cyclades has become nearly synonymous with the county as a whole for many visitors.

Characterised by their white houses, rugged landscapes and world famous beaches , the Cyclades attract visitors from around the world and are a must see for everyone at some point in their life. For sailors the area offers a huge variety of routes and islands to visit, from the world famous islands Mykonos and Santorini to the popular Paros and Naxos and many, many more in between.

A note about the Meltemi winds that blow from the north in July and August. In the Cyclades these winds can make for challenging conditions and sailing the area during these times is best for experienced sailors. Don’t despair all you beginner sailors! If you want a helping hand our skippers are the best in Greece and will be happy to take care of the sailing and navigation so you can enjoy the islands worry free.

The Cyclades are reached from our main base in Alimos Marina on the western side of Attica giving quick access to the islands of Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos and Milos among others.

Our base in Lavrion is perfect for getting a head start to the islands of Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos . The Lavrion base is further south and on the east side of Attica, saving a couple of hours of additional sailing time on your way out. As an added bonus, Lavrion is just half an hour from the Athens International Airport so you can be on your way towards your destination just an hour or two after landing.

Located on the western side of Greece the seven main islands of the Ionian Sea have their own unique charm and character . The Ionian Islands are much greener than most islands in Greece, their location and geography bringing more rainfall during the winter months and allowing trees and shrubs to grow and thrive. The combining of colours between the green of the hills , the white of the sands and the blue of the sea are a special treat for visitors to this area.

Istion maintains three bases in the Ionian, on Corfu in the north and in Lefkas (or Lefkada) and nearby Preveza further south.

Itineraries starting from Corfu may include multiple stops along the Corfu coast, visits to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos and visits to mainland ports including Parga and Syvota .

Trips starting from Lefkas or Preveza may head either north towards Corfu or South towards the islands of Kalamos and Kastos and then on to the mythical island of Ithaca and nearby Kefalonia . Note that our base in Preveza is just 10 minutes from the Aktion Airport where all charter flights to Lefkas arrive. If your flight times are tight, Preveza is a great option .

We recommend downloading our sample sailing itineraries for trips leaving from Corfu and from Lefkas or Preveza . If you need more recommendations for a truly unique voyage through to the Ionian just contact us , we will be happy to help.

The Dodecanese islands in the southeast Aegean are close to our heart. The central island of Kos is where Istion Yachting first started operations in 1992 .

The Dodecanese are known for their wonderful beaches and rich history ranging from the ancient to the medieval to the modern in a delightful kaleidoscope of sights and sounds . The area has relatively mild wind conditions that are perfect for sailing throughout the year and has plenty of sun and warmth during the summer months.

Istion now has two bases in the Dodecanese, our home base on Kos and another on the historic island of Rhodes . From Kos you may head north towards the islands of Kalimos, Leros and Patmos and if time permits all the way to amazing Ithaki and Fourni .

Heading south from Kos will put you on course to visit the islands north of Rhodes including Nisiros, Tilos and Symi . Setting sail from Rhodes itself also reaches these islands or you can choose to head west, exploring the coast of Rhodes and visiting the quaint island of Chalki and the beautiful islands of Karpathos and Kasos .

Charter flights from most European countries fly direct to both Kos and Rhodes making them a great starting point for your next Aegean adventure !

The Sporades are the hidden gem on the Greek sailing map . Nestled off the eastern coast of central Greece the main islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros are a beautiful combination of green mountains, sandy and pebble beaches and deep blue seas. Nature plays a staring role here, with the National Marine Park at Alonissos being a significant refuge for the Monachus Monachus or Mediterranean seal .

Sailing conditions in the Sporades are relatively mild, although winds can shift between the day and night requiring some care when mooring. Distances between islands are short allowing a lot of fun to be packed into a week long charter .

We have two charter bases servicing the Sporades, a base on the island of Skiathos where most European charter flights arrive and another on the mainland city of Volos . Volos is a convenient starting spot for guests arriving by road with their own vehicle and allows exploring of the lovely coastline of the Pagasetic Gulf and Pelion on your way out to the islands – highly recommended !

Bareboat Charters

Tailored for the seasoned sailor, bareboat charters hand the helm over to you, allowing complete freedom to navigate the Greek seas at your own pace . Your sailing party must have at least one licensed skipper and one experienced crew member at a minimum to be able to rent our yachts as bareboats.

If you have some sailing experience but do not hold a valid license then a bareboat charter is not (yet) for you and your best option is a skippered charter where our friendly captains will give you a helping hand. Sailing Yachts

Sailing yachts are perfect for those who love the classic feeling of sailing. Designed to be easy to handle, they smoothly glide through the water and let you enjoy the natural beauty of the Greek seas. They're a bit slower than other boats, and they lean to one side when the wind blows, which is all part of the classic sailing adventure. Sailing yachts are also the most budget friendly option for a sailing holiday in Greece. Our smaller yachts with three cabins and space for up to six guests (or eight if two sleep in the main cabin) can be rented for as little as roughly 1200 Euros a week in the low season. Costs for larger yachts with up to 6 cabins and space for up to 12 guests rise to approximately 10.000 Euros a week in the high season.

Catamarans are the choice for those who want lots of space and a stable, comfortable trip. With their two-hull design, they don't rock as much as sailing yachts, which is great if you're new to sailing or easily feel seasick. You can also get closer to the beach with a catamaran, as they don't sit very deep in the water. Catamarans offer a smooth and spacious experience, making for a relaxing and comfortable sailing holiday and are a very popular choice for first time sailors in Greece.

For families and larger groups, the bigger cabins and more room to move around on a catamaran make them a good fit for your holiday. The double hull layout means two families can easily sail together while each having their own 'private space' on either side of the main deck. Catamarans also tend to have one washroom per cabin, a feature all parents with teenage kids appreciate.

The comfort and space offered in a catamaran puts them in a higher budget bracket than our monohull sailing yachts. Our smallest catamarans with four cabins and room for up to 10 guests start at roughly 2100 Euros per week in low season. Our top of the line models can range up to 16.000 Euros plus in the middle of the high season.

Our motor yachts are all modern, with plush interiors and all the latest features for entertainment and entertaining. However, they do use more fuel and require a professional captain and crew, so there's a higher cost for this kind of luxury and speed. RYA Coastal Skipper in Greece

Your next step from day skipper.

The RYA Coastal Skipper in Greece course teaches you the skills and techniques required to safely skipper a yacht on coastal or offshore passages by day or night. It is the ideal bridge between Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Coastal.

This 5 day course provides a great opportunity to sail further afield within the Ionian, meet more challenging conditions and gain more experience in sail and power handling, passage planning and emergency situations.

We require that you have boat handling abilities to Day Skipper standards and have completed the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore theory . There is no time during the Coastal Skipper practical course to be learning new theory!

What to expect

Busy but fun days on the Coastal Skipper course Greece – we have a large syllabus to get through so setting off by 9am is key, that means getting up early to have breakfast and preparing the boat for sea

Limited swim stops – although there will be times for a quick dip, you must remember you are on a course and we have limited time to get you through the syllabus. We don’t allow kayaks or paddleboards on courses as they get in the way when training.

Provisioning – we recommend students to start a kitty between themselves at the beginning of the week, please remember the students are to provide food and water for your skipper during the course. We recommend provisioning the boat between you all for eating breakfast and lunch onboard, then plan on heading to a taverna in the evenings with maybe one evening meal being cooked aboard.

Cabin arrangements – obviously there is a limited number of cabins, 2 or 3 on the training boats. Cabins are sold first come first served, with one cabin always reserved for our instructors. Please speak to the office when booking to see cabin availability.

Your yacht will be in great condition and fully MCA coded for RYA Coastal Skipper in Greece training.

How you can take the course..

Join a yacht with other people. We like to teach a maximum of 4 people at a time as we feel it gives you that extra attention and time from the instructor and also space on board the yacht.

LOW season – £1,070 per person

Mid season – £1,280 per person, high season – £1,400 per person, to book please get in touch, note: cabin accommodation may be shared and saloon berths may be used.

Charter a yacht for 7 days with partners, friends or family (Suggested Maximum 4 people). Training this way as a familiar small group gives more personalised tuition, more time in charge of the yacht and additional spaces and comfort.

Preturie afisate mai jos sunt pentru toata barca (pe velier - NU pe persoana). Pentru a obtine pretul pe persoana pentru o vacanta pe un yacht cu vele, pur si simplu impartiti ratele la numarul de persoana din grupul dumneavoastra. De exemplu, pentru un grup de 6 persoane interesate intr-o excursie cu barca de 5 zile in Iunie - sezonul B - veti plati 3490 euro pe barca, deci 3490 euro / 6 persoane = doar 581 euro pe persoana pentru o excursie de 5 zile cu velierul in Grecia . Incredibil de ieftin - mai ieftin decat orice optiune de vacanta, si o experienta superioara unei vacante standard "cu un feribot pana la insula / cazare in hotel".             Party of 3 - 6 persoane Party of 7 - 8 persoane 10% discount on the charter rate for a party of 2 guests (dus cu apa calda, frigider, seif, etc)   -150 € / saptamana  350 Euro / zi (pe barca, nu pe persoana) care se imparte intre membrii grupului dumneavoastra. Oferim clientilor nostrii avantajul de a plati o rata fixa inainte de croaziera si nimic in plus! Dupa ce probabil ati cautat pe internet si ati citit diverse optiuni de navigare cu barca in Grecia, probabil ati observat ca inchirierea unui velier este asemanatoare cu inchirierea unei masini. Pretul de inchiriere afisat este pretul pentru a inchiria yachtul (la fel cum la un car rental, pretul afisat este pentru a inchiria masina). Toate cheltuielile ulterioare sunt acoperite de dumneavoastra pe parcurs. Pentru o masina, acestea ar fi benzina, taxe de autostrada, taxe de parcare etc. Avand o structura asemanatoarea, cand bugetati o excurise cu velierul, la majoritatea companiilor va trebui sa adaugati la pretul de inchiriere toate aceste cheltuieli care vor aparea pe parcurs. Problema cu aceasta abordare este ca pretul total pentru un yacht variaza in functie de multi factori. Acest lucru faca dificil pentru multi calatori sa estimeze la la bun inceput care va fi pretul final pe care il va plati (un aspect care creeaza stres si griji). De exemplu, pe cand rata pentru serviciile de capitan este oarecum standard pentru toate companiile (190-220 euro/zi), toate celelalte extra cheltuieli depind de multi factori. De asemenea consumul de combustibil depinde de timpul cat motorul va functiona - mai precis de distanta care trebuie parcursa pentru a ajunge la destinatia favoriata si de conditiile meteo. Va puteti intreba: "Dar nu vom merge cu velele majoritatea timpului? De ce discutam de combustibil?". Pentru aceasta, va rugam sa cititi paragraful marcat cu ** Astfel, noi luam o abordare diferita. Pentru a evita tot acest stes si griji, va oferim pachetul "toate costurile incluse" . Pachetul nostru include TOATE costurile aferente inchirierii unui yacht cu vele (combustibil, capitan, curatenie finala etc), asfel incat va putem garanta o vacanta lipsita de griji. Nu este nevoie sa tineti evidenta tuturor costurilor. Pur si simplu platiti o taxa fixa (350 Euro/zi/barca - care se imparte intre membrii grupului dumneavoastra) inainte de imbarcare si atat! Mult mai simplu de bugetat! Fara costuri ascunse si fara surprize neplacute la sfarsitul excursiei. ** Cat timp vom naviga cu panzele / motorul? Totul depinde de conditiile meteo si de disnata pana la urmatoarea destinatie. Sa luam un exemplu de navigare din Mykonos in Paros, ceea ce inseamna o distana este aproximativ 28 de mine nautice. In conditii favorabile, un velier poate parcurge distanta pana la destinatie doar folosind velele. Avand o viteza a vantului buna (10-12 noduri sau mai mult), un velier va naviga cu o veteza de 7 mile/ora. Presupunand o briza favorabila, veti ajunge la destinatie parcurgand 28 de mine in aproximativ 4 ore. Dar cand conditiile nu sunt favorabile, o briza slaba sau dintr-o directie nefavorabila, atunci viteza unui velier care calatoreste doar cu panzele poate scadea semnificativ - chiar si la 2-3 mile/ora. Ca rezultat, incercand sa faceti economie la benzina si sa mergeti doar cu velele, veti acoperi aceeasi distanta in 9-10 ore (astfel nu mai ramane timp pentru explorat insula spre care va indreptati). Can’t wait to return next year and explore more islands with you. This vacation was a longtime bucket list item and over 1 year in the actual planning. We had a fantastic 2 weeks visiting numerous islands in the Cyclades with our 2 sons and their wives. We have our own sailboat at home but the harbor system and mooring is very different from how it is done in Canada. Adriana and Radu handle their boat with skill and confidence; we could just sit back, relax and try to learn how it is done! Their local knowledge is indispensible for knowing which harbors were best to visit based on the daily weather and wind, and where to find the little bays and inlets for swimming. As we arrived at each destination, Adriana would pull out books and maps from her collection and give us tips for the best things to see and do. There are always options, and Adriana listened to every word, then did her best to accommodate our wishes. The sailboat is well setup, excellently maintained, and was very comfortable for the 6 of us. We were able to use the extra cabin to store some of our stuff; this is a sailboat and you do need to heed Adriana's advice to pack lightly! Supplies were readily available at all the harbors so we periodically restocked for breakfast and lunch items. We found it easier and very affordable to eat dinner at the local tavernas, and Adriana and Radu always had suggestions for those as well. We spent one beautiful night at anchor in Kleftiko Bay (Milos) and grilled fish we had bought that morning from the local fishing boat on the same pier where we had moored. Certainly, could have done that a few more times :) Apart from our own food, boat friendly shoes and beach/swim towels, everything else is on the boat. Once we had picked out appropriate sizes of snorkel gear, it was set aside. The galley was well equipped and has a large fridge (kept our ice frozen for a whole week!). Radu and Adriana use the forward V-berth (as you can see on the diagram on their website) and were extremely conscientious about not interfering with our own activities (e.g. they would wait for us to be done or off the boat before making their own breakfast). We were very happy that they did accept to join us for dinner towards the end of the trip (it was my birthday :)) as we had quickly considered them to be friends. They were always thinking of how they could make our trip even more enjoyable than it already was! For example, we had opted to spend a bit of extra time on Tinos and not stop at Delos based on weather. But as we got close to Delos, the strong winds forecasted had not developed, so that option was reconsidered and we did stop and visit this amazing archeological site. Anchoring and preparing the dinghy takes a bit of time and extra work, but they never once minded going the extra (nautical) mile! One thing to keep in mind is that most of the islands are best toured with a rental car. We had not considered that in advance although someone else mentions it in another review here. Radu would accompany us to the rental office (always near the harbor) and ensure we were properly looked after. The rates were quite reasonable and the smallest vehicles are adequate. Our trip was in early Mai and the weather was perfect. We packed a lot into our two weeks; towards the end we forced ourselves to slow the pace a little so we could just sit back and relax a bit on the boat (which you can do while sailing between islands although not so much when the wind picks up). Definitely would do this again with Adriana and Captain Sparrow (Radu) on the good ship Albatross! This was our second trip with Blue Water Sailing charter put of Athens. A year and a half ago we took a one week trip with them. This time we chose do cruise with them two weeks. I wish we had done a three week cruise. The boat is comfortable. We each had our own stateroom. There are four on the vessel for customers. Two bathrooms, a very functional kitchen and a nice salon area. The crew is extremely knowledgeable about each island they took us too. Explaining all our options once we arrived. The price was extremely seasonal.
