The 19th edition of the World Superyacht Awards closed its doors with a bang, celebrating some of the most innovative luxury yacht charters on the market, and the expert craftsmanship that goes into each and every superyacht.

Presenting the coveted Neptunes awards, the World Superyacht Awards is industry-wide renowned for crowning the best in the business each year with accolades including the likes of Motor Yacht of the Year, Classic Rebuilt Yachts, Judges' Special Award and Displacement Motor Yachts 500GT to 999GT.

ALCHEMY - Motor Yacht of the Year

The most prestigious award of the entire World Superyacht Awards ceremony, the winner of Motor Yacht of the Year was presented to 216.6ft (66m) luxury yacht charter ALCHEMY . Three tww yachts nominated for the 2024 world superyacht awards.

We are delighted to announce that three TWW superyachts have been nominated for a Neptune at the 2024 BOAT International Superyacht Awards: ALUNYA, JIMMY (ex. GREY), and EMERALD.

All three yachts were launched last year, among the seven successful TWW Yachts-managed deliveries for 2022. ALUNYA is a fantastic new build by Benetti, which features the innovative Oasis Deck; JIMMY, another Italian new build, is an evolution of Tankoa’s successful S501 series; while EMERALD is a stunning reimagination of a 1990s Feadship, refitted at Balk Shipyard.

The Boat International Superyacht Awards recognise the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the most remarkable superyachts from across the globe. This marks the 19th edition of the globally acclaimed event, which will be held in Venice, Italy, between 3 to 4 May 2024.

ALUNYA | Nominated for Displacement Motor Yachts below 500GT, 45m and above

ALUNYA, the sixth hull from the revered Benetti B.NOW 50m series, and the second to feature Benetti’s patented Oasis Deck, was launched in May 2023 and showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show.

This innovative deck is a key highlight of ALUNYA. Twin hydraulic winged terraces, port and starboard, extend the width of the aft deck to an impressive 36-square-metre beach club and outdoor living area. From this generous al fresco social space, owners and guests can enjoy unobstructed 270-degree sweeping vistas.

Beyond the aft deck, ALUNYA is just as impressive. Accommodation is for 10 guests, across five well-appointed staterooms. The owner’s suite, located on the main deck forward, is complete with a study area, a large ensuite, and a private terrace. The remaining guest accommodations are found on the lower deck.

When ALUNYA rejoined the market mid-construction, TWW Yachts swiftly sold the project to a long-standing client. We then managed ALUNYA throughout her construction and we have since welcomed her into the TWW Yacht Management Fleet.

JIMMY | Nominated for Semi-Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts, 40m and above

JIMMY (ex. GREY) may be the fifth hull from the Tankoa S501 series, featuring the distinctive sleek and sporty exterior styling, but once onboard, you’re enveloped by a completely different superyacht experience.

The general arrangement sets JIMMY apart from the rest of the series, resulting in a more spacious feel. Large expanses of glass enhance this further, offering panoramic vistas from most areas onboard.

Another significant departure from her sister ships is the foredeck. JIMMY features a stunning glass-sided swimming pool and a 144-inch retractable C-seed outdoor cinema, that converts this traditionally less-used space into an al fresco paradise. Integrated speakers around the pool deliver an exceptional audio experience.

TWW Yachts oversaw the construction of JIMMY and was engaged for both charter and yacht management services before assisting in finding her new owner when she returned to the market.

EMERALD | Nominated for Refitted Yacht

EMERALD is a classic 1990s Feadship brimming with modern charm. Although she exudes a regal and antiquated exterior, the onboard experience tells a different story. This refit was a labour of love, and the results speak for themselves.

Balk Shipyard was contracted for this extensive sixteen-month refit, during which EMERALD underwent a thorough overhaul. The interiors were completely stripped out, the general layout was reconfigured, and the stern was extended. The objective was to create a yacht perfect for extended trips with the whole family.

EMERALD offers something for everyone onboard: ample al fresco space for lounging and dining, comfortable seating and social areas, a garage filled with water toys, and a spacious aft deck capable of carrying a tender. Accommodations cater to 14 guests and 10 crew members, with twin Detroit engines delivering a top speed of 14 knots.

TWW Yachts worked with the owner from procurement, throughout the refit and is now representing EMERALD on the charter market.

Luxury yacht publication Boat International have announced that in 2024 the World Superyacht Awards will once again be hosted in Venice. From 3 rd -4 th May the ‘Oscars of the superyacht industry’ will be held in association with The Acquera Club.

Stefano Tositti, founder and CEO of the club commented that he is “delighted to unveil the marvels of Venice” to attendees.

Meanwhile, Boat International Media CEO Toby Moore said, “We are delighted to be returning to the beautiful city of Venice, where the inaugural World Superyacht Awards were hosted in 2006” and continued, “we are looking forward to welcoming owners, leading designers and builders for a spectacular weekend of celebrations.”

The World Superyacht Awards recognise the most outstanding new superyachts and are judged by a panel of current and former superyacht owners. The best of the best will be lining up to take home a prestigious Neptune trophy. Nominations are open until 31 st December and tickets go on sale soon.

Everything you need to know about the World Superyacht Awards 2025

The World Superyacht Awards , in association with Acquera Club , is a highlight of the yachting calendar and brings together superyacht owners, builders, designers and other industry experts. Celebrating the most outstanding superyachts from the past year, a number of coveted Neptune trophies are awarded at the gala ceremony. Nominations for the World Superyacht Awards 2025 are now open.

When and where are the World Superyacht Awards?

A number of cities have played host to the World Superyacht Awards in its impressive history , including Amsterdam, Monaco, Florence, London and Istanbul. The 20th edition will return in May 2025 to the beautiful city of Venice, Italy, for the second consecutive year, where the inaugural World Superyacht Awards were hosted in 2006.

What is the event programme?

The festivities will begin with welcome drinks and canapés, followed by the black-tie awards ceremony and gala dinner the following evening. The award-winning superyachts will be announced during the prize-giving ceremony, where the winning owners, designers and builders will be presented with their Neptune trophies. Celebrations will continue at the World Superyacht Awards after-party.

What are the categories for the World Superyacht Awards?

All yachts nominated for the 2025 awards must be at least 30 metres long (LOA). Yachts entered for the ‘new yacht’ classes must have been completed and delivered to their owners between 1 January and 31 December 2024.

The categories have been established in consultation with yacht builders and naval architects to allow yachts to be fairly judged against other vessels of a similar size and type. There are categories for displacement motor yachts, semi-displacement and planing motor yachts and sailing yachts. This distinction is made because these various types of yacht call for very different design and construction philosophies.

Three further categories are reserved for yachts that have undergone major refits or rebuilds within the qualifying year. With the agreement of the chairman, class boundaries may be redefined and classes may be amalgamated depending on the number of entries in those classes.

How do I buy tickets for the World Superyacht Awards?

When tickets go on sale, a limited number are available on a first-come, first-served basis and those associated with the nominated yachts will be prioritised. All tickets will go through an approval process by BOAT International.

Who are the judges for the World Superyacht Awards?

The World Superyacht Awards is a globally acclaimed event, known for its credibility, prestige and glamour, and is distinguished from all other yacht awards thanks to an independent panel of current and former superyacht owners. Bringing hundreds of years of experience collectively, the judges are knowledgeable and experienced superyacht enthusiasts who have taken a keen interest in the design and build of their own vessels. It is their personal interest that drives the judging process and we owe the judges an enormous debt for their enthusiasm and generosity.

Divers look for cameras that could explain why Mike Lynch’s superyacht sank

Italian special forces divers have embarked on an operation to recover video surveillance equipment that could explain why Mike Lynch’s superyacht sank .

The sinking of the Bayesian off the coast of Sicily last month resulted in seven deaths, including those of the British tech tycoon and his teenage daughter Hannah.

The challenging task has been assigned to specialist divers from a navy special forces unit called Comsubin, equivalent to Britain’s Special Boat Service, which normally specialises in underwater sabotage and coastal raids.

The divers are venturing to the wreck, 165ft beneath the sea and about half a mile off the fishing town of Porticello on the north coast of Sicily.

Investigators hope that, if they can be recovered intact, the surveillance cameras and other equipment will help them find out what happened on the night the Bayesian sank during a violent storm .

It is believed the lyacht was hit by a meteorological phenomenon known as a downburst , which can pack as much punch as a mini tornado.

The other victims of the Aug 19 tragedy were Recaldo Thomas, the ship’s chef, Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, and his wife Neda Morvillo.

Fifteen people survived , including James Cutfield, the captain , from New Zealand. After being questioned by investigators in Sicily, he returned to the home he shares with his wife in Majorca.

He is under investigation for possible charges of multiple manslaughter and causing a deadly shipwreck, but has not been charged.  Tim Parker Eaton and Matthew Griffiths, the two British crew members also under investigation , have also not been charged.

Under the Italian legal system, being placed under investigation does not imply guilt and does not necessarily mean that charges will be brought.

Prosecutors investigating the tragedy are determined to raise the Bayesian and bring it to shore.

The objective is “to find out elements of the situation which led to the sinking”, said Raffaele Macauda, an admiral in the Italian coast guard who is involved in the enquiry. The navy divers’ inspection of the wreck “will help us draw up a plan to recover the yacht”, he said.

The operation to lift the yacht from the seabed will require a team of divers, a leading salvage expert said.

Nick Sloane, the South African who raised the Costa Concordia cruise ship after it capsized off the coast of Tuscany in 2012, told The Telegraph the divers would have to remove the vessel’s mast and rigging and empty thousands of litres of fuel from its tanks.

They would then have to connect rigging from the wreck to a barge equipped with cranes on the surface of the sea. The divers would work with remotely operated vehicles, underwater robots known as ROVs. Once on a barge, the yacht would be brought to a port and investigated for clues as to what went wrong.

Tracking data from on board the yacht suggests there was a 16-minute window between it being hit by the storm and sinking.

Although the incident is under investigation, the head of the company that built the yacht reiterated allegations that the sinking must have been caused by human error .

“From the analysis of the terrible 16 minutes of that night we maintain that the water must have entered from open hatches,” said Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of Italian Sea Group, which owns Perini Navi, the company that built the Bayesian.

“We maintain the actions that you would expect from a crew were not taken. They should have prepared the vessel, closing all the hatches. It was unsinkable. If water had not entered, there would not have been any problems. The storm that was coming was clearly visible. It is significant that the local fishermen read the situation and decided not to go out to sea.

“The water must have started to enter from the stern and the stability was compromised.”
