The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

Elan yachts were among the first production yachts to incorporate a twin-helm system, borrowing the concept from the offshore racing world. Now a staple in yacht design, the Jefa twin-wheel steering enables easy manoeuvring from both sides of the yacht while not impeding movement in the cockpit. Twin helms also introduce a new level of redundancy on your bluewater cruises, especially when paired with twin rudders.

As the only sure way to prevent osmosis, and to ensure uniform stiffness, lightness and safety, Elan was one of the first serial yacht manufacturers to adopt the Vacuum-Assisted Infusion Lamination back in 2003. VAIL enables the complete saturation of resin and removes human error from the process.

L-SHAPED KEEL

The classic L-shaped keel has many benefits ensuring easier navigation. It's a user-friendly keel with advantages when clearing kelp, easier manoeuvring in marinas and a smaller draught.

EASY TO SAIL

This yacht is easily handled by a shorthanded or even single-handed crew, due to the winch placement and furling sails. Paired with a more conservative sail plan, this ensures an easily managed rig.

This Elan yacht has been designed with every comfort in mind. Leisure when cruising is guaranteed. Relaxation and enjoyment are a priority – everything from the large volume, sunbathing areas in the cockpit, an outdoor grill and fridge, to microwave and coffee machine options.

DECK SALOON

The raised coachroof forms a deck-saloon yacht which offers a far brighter and more spacious interior than an ordinary yacht, thus creating a true home away from home while on board.

A conservative sail plan and a hull shape that does not punish casual sailors in extreme weather. A low centre of gravity and great stability due to CFD modelling by Humphreys Yacht Design. Option of a closed and covered cockpit that protects the crew from the elements. An easy and convenient emergency ladder trigger mechanism. A stiff hull that saves lives.

SINGLE RUDDER

Classic and reliable single rudder design, positioned behind the engine thrust to provide the fastest maneuverability   at small speeds. All Elan rudders are designed and manufactured in-house. Constructed with composite technology and made to act like a monolithic structure, optimized for rigidity, endurance, and lightness.

New Exterior

The I40.1’s modernized deck is a sight to behold. The new vertical transom allows for more cockpit space, a modern look, and a large bathing platform – the size of which also determines either an enclosed transom or a sportier open transom feel. The addition of two aft storage boxes can be upgraded with a grill, a fridge, or a sink. Still reigning above are the iconic Elan Impression transom seats, which are always taken first by an enthusiastic crew!

The steering pedestals allow for 9″ electronics, and the practical steering wheels are made of light composite. Walking past the large, fold-down table with drink holders is a breeze, as is moving around the cockpit and handling the winches. The table was designed to be accommodating when moored and practical when sailing, thanks to the integrated handrail and cupholders.

New Interior

Not many can reach as high a standard as a company with more than seventy years of experience in woodworking and carpentry. Elan’s craftsmen had always been leaps and bounds ahead of the competition – and their work with the new Impression 40.1 pushes the limits even further. The interior furniture is made from iroko wood veneer enhanced by solid iroko wood finish. Iroko (or African teak) is beautiful and durable, and combined with smart design and placement it makes the interior truly stand out. The spacious and light saloon will delight all guests, and the galley with a 130 l front-opening fridge will make life easier when cruising. Available in four different cabin layout configurations, the I40.1 can be customized to suit any need.

Good size and safe cockpit, the salon provides great space at her crew and three spacious cabins for a good night of sleep and a nicely crafted mahogany interior. Ample storage space throughout the boat. One of the better choices for a safe and reliable sporty family cruiser. Seven Seas comes very well equipped among which 2017 Tri-Radiaal sails, Axion 9" touchscreen and renewed teak in cockpit and bathing platform. Ready for viewing in our sales marina.
