Chartering in the Bahamas, a Destination for Every Season

The Bahamas are a year-round yacht charter destination with weather patterns that closely mirror South Florida, making for an incredible climate for vacationing with a boat charter. Bahamas winters are cooler than the rest of the Caribbean, and temperatures can occasionally drop to the mid-to-low 60s, especially between December and February. Late spring and early summer have the best weather for boat rentals, with warm temperatures, calmer waters, sunny skies, and fair winds.

Bahamas Crewed Motor Yacht Charters

Chartering your own private motor yacht is the best way to see the islands of the Bahamas. Crewed motor yachts are the perfect way to island-hop, seeing as many attractions as possible and then relaxing offshore to enjoy water sports and beachside activities. Motor boats are the most popular type of yacht charter in the Bahamas. Crewed motor yachts also carry a wide range of recreational gear, from wakeboards and standup paddleboards to kayaks and Jet Skis, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Want to learn more about the excitement you’ll find on your Bahamas yacht charter? These are the main cruising areas and yacht charter itineraries with our favorite stops, exhilarating adventures, and unforgettable experiences you won’t want to miss on your private crewed boat charter in the Bahamas.

Worldwide Boat and our experienced captains can help customize the perfect mix of must-see destinations and unique adventures with your boat rental. Nassau, Bahamas, and other exciting destinations will be yours to explore!

This stretch of stunning islands and cays is the perfect spot for Bahamas yacht charters. Idyllic beaches, hidden coves, and dozens of world-class ports make the Exumas some of the country’s top cruising grounds.

Here, you can swim with the pigs at Pig Beach on Big Major Cay or swim with nurse sharks at Compass Cay: They’ll be so close you can touch them!

The Exuma’s protected waters also offer a calm location to paddleboard, kayak, and Jet Ski around the islands. Don’t forget to visit Staniel Cay and nearby Thunderball Grotto! This fantastic underwater cave system is teeming with exotic marine life and is such an amazing location for snorkeling, diving, and wading that it was a location for two James Bond movies!

Nassau is the starting and ending port for most yacht charters in the Bahamas. Once dubbed “The Republic of Pirates,” Nassau today features world-class marinas, upscale hotels, resorts, and golf courses. In addition, it is also a great destination on its own, with beautiful beaches and great snorkeling

The Atlantis

The famed Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island is a world of its own, offering spas, world-class restaurants, nightclubs, and more! Snorkel alongside tropical fish in the man-made Ruins of Atlantis, stroll the bottom of the shark exhibit, feed stingrays in the lagoon, or just relax at one of 11 different swimming pools.

Don’t start your charter without spending a day at the Atlantis and enjoying all of the amenities this luxury resort offers, from swimming with dolphins to trying your luck at the best casino in the Caribbean.

With architecture inspired by British settlers, Eleuthera is a casual island of rocky bluffs and low-lying wetlands with magnificent coral reef backdrops. Eleuthera’s beaches are world-famous. Surfer’s Beach is just two miles south of Gregory Town, where southwest winds blow breaks in from the Atlantic. It’s a surfing and kite-surfing mecca! Even if you just want to watch, the two-mile stretch of beach has some of the best sugary-soft white sand in the Bahamas.

Harbour Island

Northwest of Eleuthera lies Harbour Island, which was named by Travel + Leisure magazine as “the best island in the Caribbean” not once but twice. Known for its romantic pink-sand beaches, upscale shore-side accommodations, and picturesque scenery, Harbour Island offers plenty for charter guests to explore.

Located just south of Miami, the two main islands, Great Abaco and Little Abaco, as well as picturesque cays offer the adventurer truly incredible beaches and plenty to do, from deep-sea fishing to snorkeling in six amazing national parks. This is the boating capital of the Bahamas, and sailing on a luxury yacht through its mangrove-covered islands and cays will leave you with the quintessential Caribbean memory.

Bahamas Yacht Charters: What To See & Do

The Bahamas is one of the world’s most revered destinations for yacht rentals. The Bahamas are a paradise of postcard-worthy beaches, beautiful tropical weather, and amazing island adventures.

Some of the Greatest Beaches in the World

The beaches of the Bahamas form such an extraordinary collection of sand and warm turquoise waters that astronauts have praised them from space.

Whether you’d like to swim or snorkel, truly relax on a deserted beach, or head to the waves for some water sports, the Bahamas has plenty of stretches of sand for fun and adventure. Favorites include Pig Beach on Big Major Cay, Dean’s Blue Hole in the Exumas, Rose Island near Nassau, Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island, Surfer’s Beach on Eleuthera, and Guana Cay and Tahiti Beach in the Abacos.

When you think you’ve tried them all, find your own deserted stretch of sand along an unnamed island to enjoy sunset cocktails or even a private beach picnic.

Crystal-Clear, Aquamarine Waters

The waters of the Bahamas are bathwater-warm year-round, hovering in the low 80s most of the year. Yet beyond their beckoning warmth, they’re also the clearest in all of the Caribbean. Expect 100-foot visibility in most seasons. That makes this the perfect destination for a cruising adventure. Whether you’d like to explore the vibrant and colorful corals, swim with sharks, or dive a blue hole, the islands’ inviting waters are the perfect setting.

Amazing Marine Life

The waters of the Bahamas boast a variety of marine ecosystems and an unparalleled opportunity to experience sea life. Witness massive humpbacks breaking surface waters, or swim with exotic tropical reef fish at James Bond’s Thunderball Grotto. Find world-class marlins and sailfish while deep-sea fishing in the Abacos. Stand at the bottom of the awe-inspiring shark exhibit at Atlantis, or feed stingrays in the lagoon on Paradise Island. Find Dolphin Cay and swim with dolphins at one of the largest marine habitats and animal rescue facilities in the world. With a Bahamas yacht charter, you can swim with the pigs at Pig Beach at Big Major Cay or dive into Compass Cay and get so close to nurse sharks that you can touch them!

World-Class Sporting Adventures

The warm turquoise seas of the Bahamas offer more than just wildlife. The clear, shallow waters are also the world’s largest playground. You can really do it all in the water: paddle-boarding, Jet Ski tours, kayaking hidden coves, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, and water-skiing. Plus, most crewed charter yachts include a garage of gear to help you have fun in the water.

Head to Surfer’s Beach in Eleuthera for big wintertime swells; it’s perfect for surfing or kitesurfing. Staniel Cay is a great paddleboarding and kayaking spot, thanks to its protected, calm waters. And taking a Jet Ski jaunt around the islands is always fun.

Great Golfing

Test your land legs at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island, recognized as one of the top ten resort courses in North America and the Caribbean by Golf Digest. Or set sail to Emerald Bay to play a round at its Greg Norman-designed course.

Bahamas Bucket List

 • Swim with nurse sharks at Compass Cay
 • Make friends with the famous beach-dwelling pigs at Big Major Cay
 • Take a romantic stroll on Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island
 • Enjoy sunset cocktails or a beach picnic on a deserted stretch of sand
 • Share a drink with the A-listers and celebrities at Staniel Yacht Club
 • Play a round of golf at the Greg Norman-designed oceanfront golf course at Emerald Bay
 • Snorkel the Thunderball Grotto, the underground cave made famous in the James Bond movie Thunderball

Bahamas Islands Map

Here are some Bahamas yachts to wet your appetite but contact us for the full list .

The Bahamas are made up of more than 700 islands and countless (over 2400) cays to explore and is rimed by one of the world's great barrier reefs. This impressive reef system surrounds the reef-and-key sheltered waters, providing 100 miles of relaxed cruising in the relatively shallow safety of The Sea of Abaco . This natural beauty draws in many luxury yachts, sometimes visiting from different parts of the world.

"The Bahamas has some of the most amazing beaches and warm inviting water of anywhere in the world. They are simply beautiful."

Caribbean Bahamas paradise with yacht

The Bahamian island chain begins with Bimini, just 45 miles from Miami , stretching all the way to the Turks, 500 miles to the southwest. The Bahamas is a brilliant charter location that has either excitement or serenity, depending on your mood, and is also within easy access for both American and European yacht charter vacations. Presently the Bahamas are very popular amongst crewed luxury superyachts, whether the boats are for charter or they are private owners' use. However, back in history, this is where Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492 and has in earlier days been an area sailed by swashbuckling pirates and privateers looking for places to bury their plunder in the many secluded anchorages. In many places little has changed since these early days and the Bahamas still features exceptional sailing on the warm Gulf Stream, turquoise waters and moderate winds.

Favourable Conditions for Yacht Charter Vacations

The islands of Bahamas are known for their favourable sailing conditions and the shallow waters in many parts make for an interesting watch of marine life below the surface. Bahamas boast of more than 2,400 cays and this is another reason why you should do your next yacht charter vacation here. The cluster of islands is also home to some of the barrier reefs that are made from a corals formed over several thousand years ago. The reefs offer natural protection from the lashing waves of the open sea and they also provide shelter to many small marine species. From Bahamas yachts can cruise for around 100 miles right towards the shallow waters of the Abaco Sea.

crewed yacht charter bahamas

The island cluster of Bahamas begins from Bimini which is 45 miles from the coast of Miami. The cluster then extends to the Turks which is 500 kilometres distance. If you are looking for a serene place to spend your yacht holidays then Bahamas is a great choice. The location is such that it is easily reachable from most of the US coastal cities. It can also be accessed easily from the charter destinations in Europe. As mentioned before, Bahamas consists of more than 700 islands and a total of 2,400 cays. There are so many things to do and explore in the Bahamas while on your Bahamas yacht vacation. You can go for deep sea fishing and also include a day tour of Nassau. Shopping is perfect at Bay Street along with an exciting night at a casino.

Catamaran Charters

The Bahamas has some of the most amazing beaches and warm inviting water of anywhere in the world. They are simply beautiful. Perhaps one slight drawback is that some of the most alluring are relatively shallow. Larger private luxury yachts can be slightly disadvantaged as a result and may have to anchor well of shore or avoid certain particular areas. This makes shallow draught boats the ideal way to see the islands. Catamarans make an ideal choice of boat to rent, if you love sailing, as they don’t have the deeper keels of larger sailing yachts. Shallow draught motor yachts are also able to charter well here. There are some larger catamarans available as well as different superyachts that visit the island chain each year.

On Land Discoveries & History

The Arawak people originally settled the Bahamas. The islanders are well known for their laid-back friendliness and hospitality, to this day. Before or after your yacht charter, inland you can see the Sunbury Plantation House which is a great Jacobean mansion that was built in the days when sugar was king and a cottage was the size of a castle. Also you can whet your whistle at the well-known Mount Gay Rum Distillery, where you can sample the many varieties of the island's most famous libation.

When it comes to natural wonder the Barbados has plenty to offer. You can explore Harrison's Cave, a unique phenomenon of nature, where colossal stalactites hang from the ceilings, stalagmites thrust up from the ground, and streams of crystal-clear water drop from breath-taking falls into emerald green pools. At Orchid World, the meandering paths are abundant with Phalaenopsis, Cattlyeas and Dendrobium orchids, while Andromeda Gardens showcases some of the island's rarest tropical ferns, heliconias and cacti. At Whim Gully, examine closely the bearded fig tree from which the island is believed to get its name.

Pink Sands in The Bahamas

Nassau, a bustling town on New Providence Island and the capital of the Bahamas is the place to yacht charter if you like action and great nightlife. It has an enviable array of restaurants, glitzy casinos, and sophisticated hotels. Nassau is also a great base for your private yacht with its ideal beaches, Atlantis, the mega-resort and marina, traditional British Colonial architecture and Paradise Island.

Paradise Island is connected to New Providence by two bridges and has marina facilities. Eleuthera is a 100-mile narrow island with late-1700s architecture and famous pineapple plantations. Harbour Island, Eleuthera's neighbour, is styled in Georgian architecture and the Spanish Wells community in the north is known for good fishing. Southeast of Eleuthera lies Cat Island - the "high land" of the Bahamas. Eleuthera is also a popular yacht charter vacation destination and features high cliffs and an obvious link into a long past civilization. The Exumas , which straddle the Tropic of Cancer, are recognized as the sailing and yacht charter capital of the Bahamas, with 365 cays that appeal greatly to sailors.

The types of yachts available for rental in the Bahamas are all the main types including various types of motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans. One great thing is the fact that the Bahamas yacht charter season and general holiday season can be viewed as essentially all year round!

More About the Bahamas

The Blue Hole in the Bahamas

Bahamas are a cluster of small islands. They form an integral part of the yacht charter itineraries in the Caribbean. The holiday resorts in Bahamas are the other attractions that pull people from all over the world to rent luxury yachts and enjoy magnificent vacations. Bahamas is known to have a very tourist friendly location. It is just at a distance of 100 kilometres from the state of Florida in the US. Hence every year it receives thousands of people from US world who marvel at the natural sightseeing attractions. The climate is relatively favourable throughout the year and this is another reason why it is one of the favourite destinations for renting luxury yachts.

An Ecological Oasis

The Bahamas are famous as tourist destinations and there are several reasons for this fame. Bahamas has pearly white beaches with soft sand. The ocean is so untouched by human civilization that in many shallow parts you will be able to see the sea floor. Bahamas is literally known as a veritable ecological oasis as people here believe in conserving the natural eco system of the region. The cluster of islands offer practically unlimited yacht packages that range from one day to several days. For several day packages there are a lot of relaxation options and sightseeing attractions on the way. This venue has excellent holiday resorts right on the beach. These holiday resorts have the most modern amenities in their rooms and from your room balcony you can marvel at the ocean.

Bahamas Yacht Charter

Above all a Bahamas Yacht Charter provides awesome turquoise seas and stunning white sandy beaches. Most importantly, there are hundreds of tiny Cays to explore. Therefore, choose a Catamaran or Motor Yacht to explore the coral atolls. Most importantly, your yacht captain will take you to the best spots. You decide if you prefer bars or quiet anchorages and your yacht will deliver. Also, if you love Scuba Diving we can recommend a yacht that provides FREE scuba straight from your yacht.

Nassau is the main island in the Bahamas. Therefore, it offers excellent flight connections with the USA. Also, Nassau is home to several deep-water marines. Therefore, this is a great location to meet your luxury charter yacht.

Exuma Islands

Exuma Islands are to the south of Nassau. This group of islands offer over 120 miles of white sandy shores and 365 cays. Therefore, this is the perfect destination for beach lovers and snorkelers.

Staniel Cay

Staniel Cay Exumas Staniel Cay Exumas

Staniel Cay located in the Exumas is famous for its swimming pigs. Therefore you can feed these incredible pigs either directly from your Catamaran or jump into the water and swim with these friendly pigs. Over the years these pigs have learned that food is available on the visiting charter yachts. Hence, the pigs have learnt to swim out to the yachts.

Bahamas Yacht Charters

Abaco Islands are to the north of Nassau. The islands are protected by a giant reef system. Therefore, this gives 100 miles of protected shallow bright turquoise waters to explore. Because the water is show it ensures that no cruise ships can visit this destination.

Kitesurfing Bahamas Yacht Charter

Bahamas offers both super quiet cays where you can chill out and also super fun local beach bars. So you can mix it up on vacation as you island hop throughout the stunning Bahamas. Also, we can recommend yachts that offer FREE Kiteboarding or Scuba Diving.

Most importantly, we can help you plan that perfect vacation to the Bahamas. Also, help you choose that perfect charter yacht. Above all our advice is FREE!

Bareboat Charter in the Bahamas

Superyacht charter in the bahamas, travel tips:.

 • The Bahamas is relatively hassle-free, with minimal red tape. All travelers, including U.S. citizens, require a passport. Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport implements TSA PreCheck, and Paradise Island facilitates pre-clearance for U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
 • Private flight options are available through several fixed-base operators (FBO), like Jet Nassau and Odyssey Aviation. For a fee, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism offers expedited services at the airport when flying commercial or transferring to the FBO from Nassau. You can also fly into George Town, Staniel Cay, Norman’s Cay, or Eleuthera.
 • A daily ferry runs from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island, approximately three hours, but make sure it makes sense for your charter base location.
 • The Moorings can help organize travel, and brokers can recommend travel arrangements.
 • D’Offay recommends your broker organize transportation to the boat to ensure you get a reliable vehicle and driver. Minimize carrying valuables, check travel advisories, and be aware of your surroundings.

Crew Information

Crew of UNBRIDLED|Captain

Captain: Robert Marx

Robert Marx - Captain Robert grew up on a farm in South African and had to learn early on how to fix things and to be innovative when you can’t find parts. After helping his dad running the farm for several years, he became a Construction and Project Manager and traveled all over the Eastern Cape of SA. Robert joined the mega yacht industry in 2006 and spent his first year in yachting as the Chief Engineer on the 164ft M/Y Chantel Ma Vie. When the opportunity arose for him to work with his wife, they joined M/Y El Jefe where he started as Mate/Engineer before becoming the Captain onboard in 2009. He has since completed a ton of successful charters as Captain and has cruised all over the Caribbean, Bahamas and up and down the US East Coast. In 2022 Robert joined M/Y Unbridled as Captain and he is ready to take guests on the adventure of a lifetime. His meticulous attitude ensures all systems are running smoothly and are well maintained for a safe and carefree vacation. His easy-going nature will make you feel comfortable from the moment you step onboard. He likes to make people laugh and keep guests active and entertained. Robert holds a 200 Ton Yacht Master Offshore Captains license and are currently busy with his OOW and 350Ton Masters. Robert is well versed in all the mechanical systems, as well as hydraulics, refrigeration and other operating systems onboard. When not navigating the crystal-clear waters off some tropical island, Robert enjoys motor sports, fishing, camping and watching documentaries. Daphne Marx - Chief Stewardess Daphne was born in South Africa’s windy city, Port Elizabeth. She always dreamed of being on big boats and wanted to explore the world. After College she started working in the construction industry as a property and project manager, but eventually the call of the ocean won and Daphne, along with her husband, decided to quit their land base jobs and started a new adventure. For the past 14+ years, she has worked on yachts ranging from 107ft to 200ft, where her calm demeanor and can-do attitude made her a favorite amongst owners, guests and crew. Professional, personable and caring best describes Daphne. With her background in Property Management and her experience in service, she has a great eye for detail and is adept at being invisible when necessary, yet appearing at just the right moment to ensure everything runs smoothly. Daphne’s passion for her job makes her the perfect hostess, always on hand to anticipate guests needs. When Daphne is not planning a theme night or making cocktails, she loves to do photography while exploring new places. She also loves camping and hiking, and to just relax with a good book or movie. Raphael RIvet - Chef Our amazing Chef Raphael hails from France. Raphael was born into a family of chefs and the love for cooking just came natural to him. Raphael is a passionate chef with over 30 years of experience, 17 of which has been in yachting. He first worked in Restaurants in Bath, in the UK, then went on to resorts in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Raphael has cruised extensively throughout the world including Africa, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, New Zealand, Tahiti, North and South America including Alaska, to just name a few. During this time, he obtained huge amounts of knowledge of all the different cultures and foods, which enhanced his amazing culinary skills. He also did 7 transatlantic crossings onboard yachts, keeping the crew fed with healthy dishes. At the Antiqua boat show, Raph won the first-place prize at the Chef’s Competition, three years in a row. He excels in modern and classic French cuisine, fine French dining, hand-crafted breads and patisserie, Sushi, Italian, Mediterranean Seafood, and home comfort foods. Raphael is easygoing, flexible, and reliable, running the galley at a very high and professional standard. In his spare time, he loves to explore the great outdoors and loves sailing, fishing, diving, and camping. Keeping fit is important to him, so he enjoys playing tennis, hiking and trekking through the mountains. James Miller - Mate/Dive Instructor James was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. His keen interest in scuba diving led him to get certified and he soon become a dive instructor. He started his maritime career on a dive boat in the Bahamas in 2016. James’ need for knowledge quickly moved him into the engineering side of the dive boats and eventually he also attained his captain’s license. James spent five years running scuba dive charters in the Exuma islands before he made the move onto larger yachts. He cruised throughout the Caribbean and some parts of Europe, though his love of the Bahamas had him returning to the islands aboard M/Y Unbridled, where he is keen to learn more about the industry. With his sharp wit and good sense of humor, he is ready to share his knowledge of the beautiful Bahamas and its rich marine life with our guests. His years of experience managing professional diving operations, will ensure safe and memorable dive and snorkeling excursions. James is always ready to crack a joke or give a helping a hand where needed. In his downtime he likes to play guitar and watch scary movies. Vera Buck - Deck/Stew Vera was born in Belville, South Africa to German parents and grew up around the greater Cape Town area. As a child, she spent tons of time on the beach in the beautiful coastal town of Kleimond, where she loved to explore the coastline and surrounding areas. In 2015 she decided to spend some time in Germany with her family and while traveling in Southern Italy, she discovered the world of yachting. Soon she had her first job onboard and has since worked on vessels ranging from 80ft – 320ft, cruising all around the Caribbean, Bahamas, and the Mediterranean. Vera has a background in business management, entrepreneurship, and tourism. Before joining Unbridled, she decided to take a break from yachting and went back to Cape Town for a bit. There she joined a start-up company that develops small inner-city farms, where they plant crops, vegetables, and fruits, to help provide food for those less fortunate in the area. Vera is a true people’s person and with her contagious smile and bubbly personality, she helps guests to be at ease and relaxed from the moment they set foot onboard Unbridled. Her fun-loving and caring attitude is why guest and crew alike, adore her. She is passionate about the environment and nature and she loves spending time outdoors. When Vera is not working, she enjoys exploring new places, snorkeling, hiking, and camping. She also enjoys reading good books and watching a good movie.

Raphael RIvet - Chef
Our amazing Chef Raphael hails from France.

James Miller - Mate/Dive Instructor
James was born and raised in Ontario, Canada.

Vera Buck - Deck/Stew
Vera was born in Belville, South Africa to German parents and grew up around the greater Cape Town area.

Marx - Captain
Robert grew up on a farm in South African and had to learn early on how to fix things and to be innovative when you can’t find parts.

Daphne Marx - Chief Stewardess
Daphne was born in South Africa’s windy city, Port Elizabeth.

Raphael RIvet - Chef
Our amazing Chef Raphael hails from France.

James Miller - Mate/Dive Instructor
James was born and raised in Ontario, Canada.

Vera Buck - Deck/Stew
Vera was born in Belville, South Africa to German parents and grew up around the greater Cape Town area.

";s:14:"yachtCrewPhoto";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew1Pic";s:72:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht4853/4853crew1";s:13:"yachtCrew2Pic";s:72:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht4853/4853crew2";s:13:"yachtCrew3Pic";s:72:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht4853/4853crew3";s:13:"yachtCrew4Pic";s:72:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht4853/4853crew4";s:13:"yachtCrew5Pic";s:72:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht4853/4853crew5";s:13:"yachtCrew6Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew7Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew8Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew9Pic";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew10Pic";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew1Name";s:11:"Robert Marx";s:14:"yachtCrew2Name";s:11:"Daphne Marx";s:14:"yachtCrew3Name";s:13:"Raphael RIvet";s:14:"yachtCrew4Name";s:12:"James Miller";s:14:"yachtCrew5Name";s:9:"Vera Buck";s:14:"yachtCrew6Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew7Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew8Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew9Name";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew10Name";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew1Title";s:7:"Captain";s:15:"yachtCrew2Title";s:16:"Chief Stewardess";s:15:"yachtCrew3Title";s:4:"Chef";s:15:"yachtCrew4Title";s:20:"Mate/Dive Instructor";s:15:"yachtCrew5Title";s:9:"Deck/Stew";s:15:"yachtCrew6Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew7Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew8Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew9Title";s:0:"";s:16:"yachtCrew10Title";s:0:"";s:9:"yachtFlag";s:16:"Marshall Islands";s:13:"yachtHomePort";s:7:"Tortola";s:14:"yachtWBasePort";s:7:"Tortola";s:8:"yachtRig";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtGrossTons";s:0:"";s:12:"yachtAcNight";s:3:"Yes";s:16:"yachtAcSurCharge";s:0:"";s:9:"yachtTubs";s:1:"0";s:20:"yachtLocationDetails";s:919:"TERM CHARTERS: Weekly Rate plus 35% APA plus 4% Bahamas Taxes plus 10% Bahamas VAT DAY CHARTERS: 8 hour day $13,000 plus 4% Tax, plus 10% VAT for up to 12 guest. 20% mandatory crew gratuity – needs to be collected at the time of contract (FOR DAY CHARTERS ONLY!) *Rate includes: -Continental Breakfast, Surf and Turf Lunch, Snacks, Open Bar and Beverages for up to 8 guests. He finished school in 1988 and then joined the South African Army for two years, becoming an Officer. At the age of 16, he joined the National Sea Rescue Institute, a volunteer organization that performs search and rescue operations along the South African coast. Captain Clifford spent 26 years with them and was a regional leader when he left the organization, training new crew and coxswains at a local and national level. Around the same time, he started sailing and doing some deliveries which introduced him to the world of yachting.

He started his yachting career as a Mate on a 100-foot Hargrave and became captain of the sister ship six months later. For four years, he captained trips 40 weeks per year through the Bahamas and the Caribbean. In his last position, he was on a new San Lorenzo yacht that started in the Bahamas and then moved to the Mediterranean. As Captain of UNBRIDLED, his goal is to ensure his guests have a wonderful yet safe voyage.

When not at sea, Captain Clifford enjoys spending time with his family in the great outdoors, camping, and touring remote places via 4x4 or motorbike. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). The remainder of the APA is returned after charter.">Price Terms: Plus Expenses

What people are saying

“Canvas Yacht Charters and Doug are a pleasure to work with. Doug’s follow-up skills are remarkable and attention to detail are bar none. I very rarely leave reviews, but I can, without a doubt, recommend Canvas and Doug to everyone I know. Thanks again D!”
“We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary with three other couples, our dearest friends, on a week-long sailing charter. The trip was arranged by Doug Tibbs at Canvas Yacht Charters, and his assistance was invaluable every step of the way. He listened to our dreams for the trip, the things we were really hoping for and things we wanted to avoid, non-negotiates and crazy ideas, and he filtered them all to present us with several charter options, any one of which would have been wonderful, but we ended up on Ghost. Doug’s attention didn’t stop with the booking. He made sure we were kept aware of various important deadlines, including changes related to covid, connected us with the crew and conveyed to them all our preferences, and was available throughout to answer our big and small questions. This was truly the trip of a lifetime for every one of us onboard—the boat, the crew, the sailing, the food, the adventure. So many thanks to Doug for his care to make it everything we dreamed it could be—and we are already hoping to plan a repeat trip for next year!”
“It’s not often that I end up leaving a review for a service I didn’t end up booking, but the super customer service I received from Heather at Starrluxe definitely merits noting. From the first step in the process, she was helpful, professional, and extremely accommodating despite a difficult itinerary and an expedited time frame. She provided excellent options and went out of her way to address our every requirement. I deeply regret that our travel plans changed and we weren’t able to finalize our charter, but I greatly look forward to working with Starrluxe again in the future. Highly recommend!”
“Enjoyed working with Doug. He was attentive to our needs/desires. Got us a great boat with a great crew. He even got us a price reduction. I will look forward to working with him again.”
“Doug and his team helped us book a trip in two days for the following week. Great communications and expectation setting, which helped make the trip successful. We will recommend them to family and friends for their trips. -Cheers, John”

Luxury Yacht Charters: Inclusive Options Await

 • By Yachting Staff
 • August 26, 2024

135-foot Horizon Stay Salty

Here’s something you don’t see on the charter market all too often: larger motoryachts offering all-inclusive rates in the British Virgin Islands and Bahamas.

Typically, larger motoryachts are listed for charter with weekly base rates. Those base rates cover the boat and crew, but not expenses such as fuel, food, drinks and gratuity. The idea is that different clients want to do different things on charter, so the variable costs are adjustable.

By contrast, smaller crewed boats that stick to generally fixed itineraries and can better predict the associated costs—in particular, catamarans in the Virgin Islands—are offered with inclusive rates.

That’s what makes the news so interesting about the 135-foot Horizon Stay Salty and the 120-foot Sovereign Real Summertime. Denison Yachting says these larger yachts are now offering all-inclusive charter packages in the British Virgin Islands and Bahamas.

120-foot Sovereign

“This is an exciting initiative to simplify and encourage new charter clients to try one of the most epic travel experiences imaginable,” Ben Farnborough, Denison’s chief operating officer, stated in a press release. “Often we’re made aware that there’s a perception outside of the yachting industry that chartering a yacht is inherently complex. Our goal here is to change that. These all-inclusive Denison charter options are straightforward and seamless.”

The two yachts are being offered with inclusive rates based on fixed itineraries and menus, without the standard preference sheets that charter clients typically fill out so the crew can provision whatever guests request to have on board. Denison’s team instead worked with the yacht owners and crew to determine defined dates, docking prices, fuel costs, cocktail lists and menus.

The idea is similar to the way that Denison worked with Magellan Jets to offer a coordinated package for jet travel from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Nassau, Bahamas, at a fee of $48,000 for 12 passengers.

Stay Salty is a 2010 build that most recently was refitted this year. The yacht accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms, including an upper-deck master. Tenders for watersports fun include a 34-foot Jupiter.

Real Summertime is a 2000 build that most recently was refitted in 2022. Accommodations on this yacht are for as many as 12 guests in five staterooms, including a main-deck master. Onboard amenities include an outdoor cinema, and tenders include a 37-foot Boston Whaler Outrage.

Is there any wiggle room in the all-inclusive plans? Yes, for an extra fee. Denison Yachting says the inclusive rate is intended to appeal to people who want to avoid the planning process, but that guests who want bespoke elements in their all-inclusive charter can work with Denison’s team to accommodate those requests at an additional cost.

Choosing the perfect fit for your sail: Bareboat vs. Crewed Yacht charters

S etting sail in the open expanse of the sea might sound thrilling but challenging at the same time. Choosing the correct type of yacht for your voyage can be a dilemma, especially when there are so many types. But do they match your needs?

For this, the first step is to do your research. This will bring clarity to your decision on whether you want to set sail alone or need professional assistance. Choosing the correct type of yacht is crucial for a hassle-free sailing experience.

Yacht charters have endless types, but this article only gives you in-depth information about the broader categories of bareboat and crewed charters.

The goal is to help you make an informed decision by considering your group size, requirements, and priorities.

So let’s get started!

Types of yacht charters

Each yacht charter is tailored to meet different tastes and priorities, and choosing one can be overwhelming. Some of the most famous known types include:

Bareboat charters

Crewed charters.

 • Skipper charters
 • Luxury charters
 • Cabin charters

This section will delve into the pros and cons of bareboat and crewed charters to help you plan the vacation you rightly deserve.

Chartering a bareboat gives you a thrilling experience of exploring the open sea. This type of yacht gives you freedom of navigation. This means you’re the captain, and you’re the crew.

However, the sailing period is pre-defined while renting a bareboat from a charter company.

Pros of bareboat charter:

 • Flexibility

On a bareboat charter, you are the captain to set your itinerary. There is no need to stick to a fixed schedule, and you can make changes as you desire. This gives you the advantage of discovering more unexplored sites you can’t do on a busy cruise.

 • Cost-effective experience

Bareboat charters provide financial leverage because you handle the boat yourself. So, heavy charges of the crew can be avoided easily. This cost-saving feature makes it an attractive choice for a memorable voyage across the sea.

 • Customized experience

Chartering a bareboat allows you to be accessible to personalize your sailing experience. You can choose your dream destination and explore in solitude.

This provides an excellent opportunity to create precious, intimate memories with family and friends. So, your sailing experience will reflect your preferences and interests.

 • Self-confidence

The independence that the bareboat charter offers comes with a bundle of self-confidence. You get an opportunity to manage life at sea on your own.

Getting out of your comfort zone of traditional traveling boosts your confidence automatically and motivates you to discover the hidden gem of places on your own.

Cons of bareboat charter

 • Experience required

The independence that a bareboat charter offers seems attractive. However, it comes with a precondition. You must have prior sailing experience, and the necessary sailing skills are required for a self-sufficient adventure in the sea.

 • Self-catering

Preparing meals, planning, and managing supplies can be daunting; on a bareboat charter, you are responsible for self-catering. It can be an enjoyable experience for culinary enthusiasts. However, it required precise planning and organizing to ensure self-sufficiency in the sea.

Even though an independent sail must be thrilling, nothing compares to having an assisted crew while you relax and enjoy the panoramic ocean scenes.

A crewed charter usually comes with a small crew of a skipper, a chef, and a hostess to assist you while you relax.

Pros of crewed charters

 • Professional crew service

A skilled captain always makes navigation easier. By renting a crewed charter, you will gain a deeper insight into your destination through the crew’s local knowledge. Moreover, it ensures your safety and expert guidance in the sea.

This will not only make your journey smooth but memorable as well. Whether it comes to navigation or wanting a cocktail, the crew will be there to fulfill every need.

 • Stress-free sail

The whole point of a vacation is to remain stress-free. While the crew handles all the operations and technicalities, you are left by yourself to enjoy. This provides an excellent opportunity to make memories with your loved ones or immerse in your surroundings without any worry.

With the crew catering to your every need, it leaves you plenty of time for exploration and relaxation.

 • Customization

Crewed charters are famous for their adaptability. If you want to make any changes in your schedule, the crew is there to help you. You can plan intimate family gatherings and celebrations with your friends with the help of a limited but professional crew.

It is an attractive option because your voyage can be personalized to make it memorable. This adds a hint of exclusivity but at a reasonable price.

Cons of a crewed charter

 • Costly

The exclusivity that a crewed charter offers comes with a price tag. Even though it ensures a wholesome experience with a professional crew, it can be a limiting factor for people with a budget constraint. So, careful evaluation is necessary when paying this much for an experienced crew to be on board with you.

 • Limited privacy

Even though a professional crew ensures safety, their presence can be a compromise to your independence and privacy on the yacht. Your crew may influence your itinerary, and this results in less freedom than a bareboat charter.

However, these confusions can quickly be cleared out very easily. By communicating your needs effectively to your crew, they can maintain a balance between privacy and assistance.

 • Itinerary limitations

The crew’s operations may impact your original plan, and these changes may not always be feasible. This can be frustrating sometimes but can be resolved by communicating with your crew.

However, the level of independence is different from a bareboat charter.

Now you can decide…

We have discussed the pros and cons of the primary two yacht categories. We now know that a bareboat charter stands out for independent sailors who seek a self-sufficient adventure. On the other hand, a crewed charter offers more relaxation as the operational and technical aspect of sailing is handled by crew members. At the same time, you relax in a hassle-free vessel.

These distinctions will help you make an informed decision while considering your budget constraints, prior sailing experience, and dream destinations.

Once you research, you can also contact yacht chartering companies for more information. Chartering companies worldwide, like 12knots.com yacht charters , offer a diverse insight into a fleet of yachts and sailing destinations.

So ditch the old travelling options, and for your next vacation, charter a yacht for a perfect getaway.

Best Yachts for Charter in the Caribbean

Caribbean yacht charter guide, where to cruise on a caribbean yacht charter.

With thousands of islands to explore in the Caribbean, a luxury yacht charter in the Caribbean is limited only by your imagination. The Caribbean can be largely broken down into four distinct regions: The Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, the Leeward Islands, and the Windward Islands. Each of these regions offers a myriad of opportunities for exploration, adventure, and relaxation. The charter brokers at Northrop & Johnson would be delighted to help you craft an incredible Caribbean yacht charter itinerary that matches your precise needs. Contact our team today.

Top destinations with Caribbean yacht charters

The picturesque island of St. Lucia offers charterers a tropical paradise to explore. Soak up the sun on white sandy beaches, enjoy a thrilling zip-lining experience through the island’s lush tropical rainforest, wallow in the island’s volcanic mud baths, explore abandoned sugar plantations, or indulge in authentic island cuisine at local award-winning eateries.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Vincent and the Grenadines lie just south of St. Lucia and are part of an archipelago of 32 verdant tropical islands boasting picturesque coastlines peppered with sugar-white sand beaches and lush tropical interiors. Embrace casual glamour and reset to island time. Highlights include eco-tours of the island’s rainforest, swimming under tropical waterfalls, and the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary on the island of Bequia.

The island of Mustique is a privately owned island and is part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, offering a unique coastline that is lapped by both the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas. Mustique’s beauty and exclusive offerings make it a popular destination with VIPs and celebrities who are seeking barefoot elegance. Explore its untouched landscapes, enjoy crystal-clear waters, relax at the island’s beach bars, and unplug from the stresses of day-to-day life.

There is a beach for every day of the year on the island of Antigua, part of the Leeward Islands. Fringed by a coral reef, the waters of Antigua are wonderfully calm, making them great for swimming and making the most of your Caribbean yacht charter’s many water toys. Beyond the beaches, you’ll find lush tropical rainforests, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and superb eateries, from rustic beach bars to fine dining. Antigua’s warm, steady winds also make it a great destination for sailing enthusiasts.

Part of the three-island state of Barbuda, Antigua, and uninhabited Redonda, these islands are often enjoyed on a Caribbean yacht charter experience along with nearby St. Barths. The island of Barbuda is relatively untouched by tourism development, making it a great place to enjoy traditional Caribbean life and truly unwind. The island is best known for its stunning pink-sand beaches along its Caribbean coastline and wonderful flora and fauna, including its Frigate Bird Sanctuary.

St. Kitts, or St. Christopher, is nestled in the West Indies and is known for its mix of volcanic black and golden sandy Caribbean beaches. The island offers a relaxed and carefree atmosphere where one can savor life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy soaking up the sun on the island’s pretty beaches, or enjoy a handcrafted cocktail and fresh catch of the day at one of the many local restaurants and beach-side bars. Make sure you leave time to ride the Sugar Train, a scenic railway route that was originally used to transport sugar.

A Caribbean yacht charter can be enjoyed year-round thanks to the wonderfully warm, sun-drenched Caribbean climate; however, the best time to visit is during the winter months, when the chance of rain is minimal. No matter what time of year you would like to embark on a Caribbean yacht vacation, our charter specialists can help. Contact the team at Northrop & Johnson today.

What’s the temperature like in the Caribbean?

Generally, the Caribbean has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. Temperatures range from the mid-70s to 80s F (24-30 C) throughout the year and remain relatively consistent due to the Caribbean’s proximity to the equator.

Horizon Yacht Charters

Andrew Thompson answers his phone breathless, having just come ashore from the afternoon’s racing activity. “I’m on a busman’s holiday in the UK sailing my ‘Solo” – a 12-foot dinghy in a super-competitive fleet,” he explains. To say that the founder and director of Horizon Yacht Charters is passionate about sailing is an understatement. He lives and breathes life on the water.

Thirty years ago, a nine-month contract to run the watersports program for a five-star hotel on Virgin Gorda enticed the Englishman to the British Virgin Islands. In 1998 he co-founded Horizon Yacht Charters, and today Thompson is fully entrenched in the Caribbean life.

“Clearly I love it,” he laughs. “I certainly have a disposition for watersports and windsports. We kitesurf, we wingfoil; it’s just spectacular.”

Thompson is humble about his enviable sailing experience and accomplishments, which include myriad regatta-class wins, and more than 50,000 sea miles. Providing a charter experience that is far above and beyond the norm is his passion.

What began as a fledgling charter operation with three boats has expanded into a fleet of nearly 60 sailing yachts, including monohulls and catamarans, between 34 and 65 feet. Horizon Yacht Charters operates from two locations: the headquarters on Tortola in the BVI and another location on St. Vincent in the Grenadines. From learn-to-sail to bareboat and skippered to luxury crewed, Horizon offers the full complement of yacht charters—with the option of a private-jet charter in tandem. Thompson credits the company’s longevity to its relationship with its discerning yacht owners and charter clients.

Horizon Yacht Charters

A Stone’s Throw From the Dock

“Our clients know everyone in our reservations department,” Thompson says. “There’s Courtney, who has been with the company for 26 years; Christalen, who joined in 2006; and Sandra, who came on board in 2018. Kaleigh runs the crewed-yacht division, and everyone knows our operations director, Henry, who runs the dock.

“Our staff are right there,” Thompson continues. “Our guests aren’t dealing with a remote office or with someone who has never been to the location or on the boats they’re looking to book. When you book a boat with us at our Caribbean locations, you’re booking a specific boat, not just that model. Our reservation team have been on every boat and often walk clients through the yachts virtually to show the immaculate condition, the layout and specific equipment. They are a stone’s throw from the dock and are very integrated into the whole business.”

Horizon Yacht Charters

Perfectionism at Its Finest

The majority of the owners of the boats in Horizon’s fleet are sailors, and with that comes an expectation that the boat will be maintained to the highest standards.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the yards that build the boats for our fleet, and we have a commitment to the owners to maintain the boats in pristine condition. We can keep boats in our fleet up to eight years because we keep up with the maintenance. I’m a bit of a perfectionist in that area.

“We keep the canvas, sails, cosmetics, mechanicals and electrics in top condition,” he continues. “Each bareboat charter application is carefully reviewed to ensure that the charterer has the appropriate amount of knowledge and experience for the particular vessel. On the docks, there is not a stack pack open, the main sails are put away. That is the attention to detail and the day-to-day of how we operate. These standards are the bedrock to the experience.”

As the company grew, Thompson knew he didn’t want to spend his life on a plane trying to manage fleets all over the world to his exacting standards. So he developed a points system and a worldwide sailing program that allows an owner use of his own boat in the BVI/Caribbean and aboard other boats in partner fleets worldwide.

Horizon Yacht Charters

The Horizon Yacht Charters Difference

Charter guests who want to sail farther afield than the BVI/Caribbean don’t have to venture out on their own; Horizon Yacht Charters offers the same personalized service through a brokerage arrangement with preferred fleet operators in the USVI, Bahamas and Croatia and beyond.

Yacht management and sales are integral to the charter operation, and through the Horizon Yacht Sales division, Thompson and his experienced team consult with owners on every aspect of a yacht purchase, covering the nuances of builders, or boat models, factory options and bespoke customizations. The company is the authorized dealer for Nautitech Catamarans and Bavaria Yachts in the English speaking Caribbean and distributor for CNB brands including Lagoon, Beneteau, Jeanneau, and Excess, in addition to Fountaine Pajot among others.

Horizon is an American Sailing Association sailing school for its learn-to-sail charters and do offer some boats with asymmetric spinnakers. “We’ve had Quantum Sails design asymetric sails specifically for charter use,” he says. “It electrifies your performance downwind. We are the only charter company to offer these boats.

“We live and breathe the sport of sailing, and we do it to a very high standard. That’s what I’m most proud of,” Thompson continues. “We are a very knowledgeable team passionate about putting out immaculate boats and giving people a great experience. If they want to learn more, we have a sailing school. We can also arrange for excursions such as diving, mountain biking, kitesurfing, hiking and snorkeling. We aren’t just another charter company.”
